Robin Hood was a Yorkshireman, claims Russell Crowe

London, May 18 (ANI): According to Russell Crowe, Robin Hood was a Yorkshireman.

While talking about his role in the new epic Robin Hood, the New Zealand born Oscar winner said he based the character on a Yorkshire outlaw from the village of Barnsdale which nestles on the border between Doncaster and West Yorkshire, reports The Telegraph.

Crowe even admitted he based his accent on South Yorkshire television personality Michael Parkinson.

“This is one of the first times that Robin has an accent that is close to his place of origin which I believe was Barnsdale,” he said.

“I believe he was associated with Nottingham but he wasn”t born anywhere near Sherwood -I think it was Barnsdale. The facts, if you can call them that, all point to that.” (ANI)

Russell Crowe admits to Robin Hood set being fatal

London, May 18 (ANI): Russell Crowe has said that the set of his new epic ‘Robin Hood’ was dangerous – a lot of people from the crew ended up with serious injuries during the shoot.

The Oscar-winner plays the English folk hero in Sir Ridley Scott”s adaptation of the classic tale, which also stars Cate Blanchett as Maid Marion.

The movie includes several high-action battle scenes where hundreds of extras play out fight sequences – and Crowe admits many of the actors suffered for their art on the movie battlefield.

“We had 15 people carried off a battlefield at one point. One guy got his eye poked out with a pike. Another guy broke an arm and a leg falling off a horse. The scale of it is enormous… In this film you had 130 horses doing a full-speed gallop charge into 600 guys on the ground. Every man on a horse did half-a-dozen fight moves before spinning around and coming back,” The Daily Express quoted the actor as telling the Mirror.

Crowe revealed that everyone including the director himself was involved in the action scenes.

“Ridley jumped into the waves and grabbed this 15-ton barge with both hands, bum, knee and all, and starts trying to push it out of the shot. When it was clear he was not going to win his lone battle against the barge he looked back at the beach and said, ”Well, what are you waiting for?” That”s leadership,” Crowe added. (ANI)

I think I had something to say and I put it down and it ran into pages; that”s because I had a lot to say,” he added.

“My husband wants to marry her. I’m much more argumentative than she is,” The Daily Star quoted her as saying.

The waxwork took 20 modelers four months to make at a cost of 150,000 pounds and Dame Helen donated her favourite black Asprey lace dress for it.

The dummy will be placed in the museum’s A-list room, which is designed to make visitors feel that they have stumbled upon a celebrity party.

“I will be adopting as a single parent. Anything else will be taken day by day,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Bullock as telling Britain”s Hello! magazine.

“I have a different relationship with Jesse now. A bittersweet one. One of new understanding. One of forgiveness. One of support for his recovery. One that changed my life. I don”t really know how our paths will intersect in the future, but the father I have known Jesse to be with all the kids is one that I hope Louis can experience one day, no matter how Jesse and I go on with our lives,” she added. George Lopez was aware of Sandra Bullock”s secret adoption

Roman Polanski breaks his silence on American extradition demands

London, May 3 (ANI): Polish filmmaker Roman Polanski has spoken about extradition demands by the US over a 33-year-old under-age sex case.

The 76-year-old Oscar winner said that America”s main purpose was to serve him “on a platter to the media.”

Polanski is under house arrest in his Swiss alpine chalet. He laid out his case against extradition on an online magazine run by one of his staunchest supporters, French philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy, reports The Daily Express.

“I have had my share of dramas and joys as we all have, and I am not going to try to ask you to pity my lot in life,” he wrote. “I ask only to be treated fairly like anyone else,” Polanski said.

He has claimed that the case charged against him is unjustified and full with problems. Each argument begins with the phrase: “I can remain silent no longer.”

Polanski also complains that Los Angeles County district attorney Steve Cooley, “who is handling this case and has requested the extradition, is himself campaigning for election and needs media publicity!”

Mr Cooley is running for the California attorney general post.

Sandi Gibbons, District attorney”s spokeswoman said the office “will withhold comment until the Swiss make a decision on his fugitive status.”

Swiss government is deciding whether to extradite Polanski to Los Angeles for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl or not.

Polanski was arrested seven months ago when he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival. (ANI)

Russell Crowe goes binge drinking with family to celebrate Hollywood star

London, May 3(ANI): Russell Crowe went on an all-night drinking session with wife Danielle and kids to celebrate the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

The Oscar-winner was honoured with the 2,404th star in Hollywood in April this year and his plaque was placed on the sidewalk in front of the Kodak Theatre.

While most would enjoy a quiet family luncheon, Crowe opted for a drinking party all through the night with his family.

“We made it into a great day. Luckily for me my kids are old enough now so they got to enjoy the experience… So we had a nice day with them. They usually have a luncheon. We said, ”Well, we”d rather have a p**s-up (drinking session) at night time than a luncheon during the day, the Daily Express quoted Crowe as speaking with Jonathan Ross.

He added: “My wife and I – and it”s a long time since we”ve done this – we were still sitting outside with a vodka in hand at seven o”clock in the morning… That”s why I married the girl. So it was fun.” (ANI)

Jesse James in a terrible emotional state, says William Shatner

London, May 3 (ANI): William Shatner, Sandra Bullock co-star from Miss Congeniality, voiced his sympathy for the actress’ estranged hubby Jesse James.

Bullock left James after a model announced her 11-month affair with the TV mechanic.

The Oscar-winner filed for divorce recently and plans to raise the couple’s newly adopted son Louis, on her own.

Shatner admitted that the publicity created by the scandal has caused a lot of emotional disturbance to James, forcing him to check into a rehab shortly after the news of the divorce broke.

“My heart goes out to Sandra, who I know and love. My heart goes out to (Jesse). I was at their wedding. I know he loved her. That marriage, that wedding was just beautiful,” the Daily Star quoted Shatner as telling The Insider.

“Jesse is being tormented like a matador with a bull. The paparazzi have nothing to lose so they are constantly waving the red flags. He”s in a terrible emotional state. His whole life has been turned upside down. He doesn”t know what he”s doing right now,” he added.

Shatner still hopes that Bullock and James will work things out amongst themselves.

He adds, “To me it”s not beyond the realm of possibility that they get back together. (Jesse) made a mistake.” (ANI)

Mickey Rourke holds Gwyneth Paltrow “in the highest regard”

London, April 30 (ANI): Mickey Rourke’s representative has dismissed rumours that the actor hates working with actress Gwyneth Paltrow and insists that he holds her in the “highest regard”.

Rourke, 57, is said to have caused quite a stir online after he described one of his Iron Man 2 co-stars as “a pain in the a**” on set.

“I worked with an actress recently who, despite having a reputation as a good actress, s**ts herself when that little red light comes on,” the Daily Star quoted him as telling MovieHole.net.

“She’s fooled everyone into thinking she’s a lot better than she is. Working with someone like that is a pain in the a**,” he said.

Rourke was reported to have aimed his rant at Paltrow after a post on Twitter.com, purportedly from the actor, named the Oscar-winner.

But a representative for the star has confirmed the Twitter account in question does not belong to the real Mickey Rourke, who has a lot of respect for Paltrow.

“(Rourke) does not have a Twitter account (and he) holds Gwyneth in the highest regard,” the spokesperson told GossipCop.com. (ANI)

Polanski’s lawyer orders Swiss authorities to release the director

London, April 26 (ANI): Film director Roman Polanski’s lawyer has ordered the Swiss authorities to release the embattled director from house arrest in the country.

Polanski, 76, has been confined to his Swiss estate since December (09) following his September (09) arrest in Zurich stemming from a three-decade old sex crime in America.

And the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office wants Polanski to return to California to be sentenced for having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl at a party in 1977.

L.A. officials on April 22 ruled that Polanski cannot be sentenced in absentia, but his lawyer Herve Temime is now insisting Swiss officials release the Oscar winner from house arrest immediately.

“It is up to the Swiss authorities to tell the truth and give back Roman Polanski his freedom once and for all, regardless of the roar and unbearable pressure of an ill-informed public,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

In February (10), Swiss authorities stated they would not make a decision on the extradition of Polanski to the U.S. until all avenues of appeal are exhausted. (ANI)

Broke Cage loses LA mansion

Financially troubled Oscar winner Nicolas Cage has lost one of his personal treasures.

His 11,817 square-foot mansion in the upscale Los Angeles neighbourhood of Bel Air failed to get any bids at its $US10.4 million asking price this week and ownership reverted to a foreclosing lender, media reports said.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Cage originally tried to sell the property for $US35 million.

The newspaper quoted a real estate agent who called the interior design “frat house bordello” with framed comic books on walls.

The mansion also had model train sets on raised tracks in some rooms in addition to a central tower, a home theatre and an Olympic-sized swimming pool, the newspaper said.

A spokeswoman for Cage was not available for comment on the report.

Cage, the star of the National Treasure action franchise, filed a $US20 million lawsuit in October against his former business manager, accusing him of harming his personal finances.

The manager, Samuel Levin, later filed a countersuit against Cage that accused him of overspending.

Cage a year ago sold his castle in Germany and told a magazine there that tough economic times forced him to make the sale.

Cage won an Oscar for his role as an alcoholic with a death wish in the 1995 drama Leaving Las Vegas.

The actor has also starred in Ghost Rider, World Trade Centre and Adaptation.

The insider added: “She spends most of the day sitting in a chair with her head on her shoulder. It must be hellish for her but she says she is more sick of seeing the inside of an operating theatre than anything else.”

The ‘Cleopatra’ actress has been facing health problems over the past 25 years.

She has been hospital more than 100 times and twice nearly died on the operating table during surgery on her back. (ANI)

Jesse James’ mistress Michelle McGee tweets she’s ‘no home wrecker’

Melbourne, Mar 30 (ANI): Michelle McGee, lover of Sandra Bullock”s husband Jesse James, has launched a Twitter rant claiming that she is no home wrecker.

McGee, the heavily tattooed model, let out a foul language tirade on her Twitter and Facebook accounts to everyone who had judged her harshly for revealing her affair.

“For all you internet warriors on here talking s^#< … it’s easy to place judgement when your sitting behind a keyboard … So get off your God dam high horse, your s*#< don’t smell like roses either. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone… in other words F*%^ YOU!” the Daily Telegraph quoted her as saying.

McGee is angry how people have judged her for revealing her purported 11-month affair with James and for posing half-naked in a coffin.

She was the first of four women who have come forward with tawdry tales of alleged affairs with James.

After her, Melissa Smith, Bridgette Daquerre and an unidentified fourth woman have emerged with evidence of their relationships with James, who married the Oscar winner five years ago. (ANI)

Work saved Emma Thompson from depression

London, March 29 (ANI): Actress Emma Thompson says work saved her from depression during difficult times.

The Oscar winner, 50, has opened up about her life and how she began suffering from depression.

“I think my first bout of that was when I was doing Me and My Girl, funnily enough,” the Telegraph quoted her, as saying on Radio 4”s Desert Island Discs.

Thompson went on: “I really didn”t change my clothes or answer the phone, but went into the theatre every night and was cheerful and sang the Lambeth Walk.

“That”s what actors do. But I think that was my first bout with an actual clinical depression.”

When asked about a five-year period during the 1990s, when she starred in seven films, was nominated for five Academy Awards and split with her husband Kenneth Branagh, she replied: “I don”t think I did stay sane, actually. It was tough. I think I probably should have sought professional help long before I actually did, for all sorts of reasons.

“Yes, divorce, ghastly, painful business but also fame, in some ways a ghastly, painful business as well. You become slightly more public property in a way that”s not necessarily always comfortable.”

According to Thompson, scripting the movie adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, wherein she starred alongside Wise and Kate Winslet, helped her beat another period of severe depression when her first marriage broke down.

Thompson explained: “The only thing I could do was write. I used to crawl from the bedroom to the computer and just sit and write, and then I was alright, because I was not present.

“Sense and Sensibility really saved me from going under, I think, in a very nasty way.”

She said acting as “an escape from myself, which I”m ashamed to say I enjoy very much.”

Asked what she was escaping, Thompson said: “Oh, you know, the voices in my head. The constant “must do better”, “must try harder” plus “you”re too fat and not really a very good mother”.

“That punitive conscience is part of my psychiatric problem.” (ANI)

Marion Cotillard stuck with award pin

Oscar winner Marion Cotillard gasped in pain after France’s culture minister accidentally stuck a pin into her chest as he decorated her with the Order of Arts and Letters.

Cotillard has spent much of her time in Hollywood since winning an Academy Award for her performance as singer Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose in 2008, but she was back in Paris on Monday to receive the decoration from culture minister Frederic Mitterrand.

Mr Mitterrand, who praised Cotillard’s “charm, natural grace and beauty”, inadvertently skewered the actress as he pinned the medallion naming her as Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres on to her blouse.

She appeared to suffer no damage however and burst out laughing as Mr Mitterrand hastily apologised.

In the same ceremony, US director Tim Burton was also decorated.

Burton will head the jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Marriage breakdown helped Hilary Swank find new love

Washington, September 9 (ANI): Actress Hilary Swank has accorded finding love again to the breakdown of her marriage.

The ‘Million Dollar Baby’ star, who announced her split with Chad Lowe in 2006, had turned to her agent John Campisi for comfort.

The Oscar-winner revealed their working relationship came to an end when they started dating.

“There was no spark. What’s interesting is, there was never anything. It wasn’t until we were well into the dissipation of our respective relationships,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling Britain’s Hello magazine.

“Going through something so difficult at the same time, we became very good friends. We became closer and closer.

“It was so unexpected. We both recognised that if we were going to take the relationship to the next step, we could no longer work together,” she added. (ANI)
