Lindsay files $100m lawsuit over ‘boyfriend-stealing’, ‘milkaholic’ baby ad

New York, March 10 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan has dragged financial company E-Trade to court in a 100 million dollar suit claiming that a boyfriend-stealing, “milkaholic” baby – also named Lindsay – in its latest advert is modelled after her.

The Mean Girls star has filed the lawsuit in Nassau County Supreme Court over the commercial that went on air during the Super Bowl this year.

The advert, a part of a series featuring toddlers who play the stock market, shows a boy apologizing to his girlfriend on video chat for not having called her the night before.

“And that milkaholic Lindsay wasn”t over?” the baby girl asks the boy.

“Lindsay?” the boy replies just when a baby girl sticks her head into the frame and says, “Milk-a-what?”

Lohan”s lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, said the actress’s name was as recognisable as Oprah or Madonna.

“Many celebrities are known by one name only, and E-Trade is using that knowledge to profit,” New York Post quoted Ovadia, as saying.

She added: “They used the name Lindsay.

“They”re using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn”t they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody”s talking about it and saying it”s Lindsay Lohan.”

Ovadia is not only trying to get the advert banned but also wants every last copy of the commercial.

According to Ovadia, E-Trade has breached Lohan”s rights under New York state civil-rights law and used her “name and characterization” in business without her permission or paying for it.

She said the firm made huge profits since the commercial was seen by tens of thousands of people watching the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics finals.

Ovadia said the company owed Lohan 50 million dollars in exemplary damages, with an additional 50 million dollars in compensatory damages. (ANI)

Newton’s regrets over early romance with director John Duigan as a teen

London, Aug 18 (ANI): Thandie Newton reportedly regrets starting her career at a young age, and getting into a troubled relationship with director John Duigan as a teen.

The actress flew to Australia at the age of 16 for filming her debut movie ‘Flirting’ in 1991, and, shortly afterwards, began a turbulent six-year romance with the director of the film, then 39.

However, now after recently working with schoolgirls at Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy in South Africa, Newton realised how young she was when she started her love affair with Duigan.

And the ‘Crash’ star still wonders how the filmmaker could have dated someone so “vulnerable”.

“I was 16. I didn’t tell my parents about it (the relationship) but really young people who are vulnerable have to be looked out for. I’ve just been out to South Africa to Oprah’s Leadership Academy. It educates girls from impoverished backgrounds and I was taking part in an arts week,” The Daily Express quoted her as saying.

She added: “I looked at the 16-year-old girls there. How can it possibly be right to start a serious relationship with someone that age when you are so much older? I’ve been through a lot of therapy so I sort of know why people do things now.” (ANI)

Oprah tells Duke students she lovers her private jet

New York, May 13 (ANI): Being quite vocal about how success has made a difference to her life, Oprah Winfrey told students at Duke University that she loves her private jet and other luxuries that comes with being a celebrity.

In her commencement speech to Duke University’s graduating class, the talk show queen talked about success and her love of the luxe life, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“It’s great to have a nice home. It’s great to have nice homes! It’s great to have a nice home that just escaped the fire in Santa Barbara,” The New York Daily News quoted Oprah as telling the students.

She added: “It’s great to have a private jet. Anyone that tells you that having your own private jet isn’t great is lying to you.”

However, Oprah also discussed a more meaningful side of success.

She said: “You haven’t completed the circle of success until you help someone else move to a higher ground and get to a better place.”

Susan Boyle tells Oprah winning fans worldwide was like ‘a dream come true’

London, May 12 (ANI): Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle told talk show queen Oprah Winfrey that winning fans all over the world with her stunning audition was “like a dream come true” for her.

The 48-year-old had amazed all, including US President Barack Obama, with her jaw-dropping performance of the Les Miserables song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ on the talent show.

And the church volunteer from Scotland continues living a dream with her first appearance on Oprah along with BGT judge Simon Cowell, who spoke of his shock after listening to the singing sensation.

“This lady came up, and I’m thinking; ‘This will take five seconds and I can go have a cup of tea’,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“That changed when she began to sing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

“She knew we were going to have that reaction and just to see that look of satisfaction on her face midway through – it was one of my favourite moments,” he added.

Susan may soon become the world’s biggest internet star, since the overnight celebrity’s debut performance has already gathered 186million hits on You Tube, making it the fifth most watched video. (ANI)

‘Made up’ Susan Boyle says she’s like any other woman

London, May 11 (ANI): Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle defended her recent makeover on The Oprah Winfrey show, insisting that it was just a little “tidying up”.

The 48-year-old, who had stunned all with her jaw-dropping performance of the song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, had taken up a new look after dyeing her frizzy grey hair and mending her bushy eyebrows.

The church volunteer from Scotland had come under critics’ fire for her new wardrobe, while the talent show’s bosses were left enraged since they wanted her to be a complete natural.

But the singing sensation told chat queen Oprah that she was like any other woman.

“I’ve just tidied up a bit like any woman would,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

Susan may soon become the world’s biggest internet star since the overnight star’s debut performance had already gathered 186million hits on You Tube, making it the fifth most watched video.
She was recently reported to have turned down the chance to meet US President Barack Obama at the prestigious annual Correspondents Dinner in Washington D.C.

The singer was apparently too nervous to take up the offer to be in the presence of the President and other high profilers at the five-star Hilton Hotel. (ANI)

People’s interest in Aniston’s romantic life has made her dog ‘famous’

London, May 11 (ANI): Jennifer Aniston says that people’s interest in her romantic life has made her dog famous.

The former ‘Friends’ star’s wedding to Brad Pitt ended in divorce and she recently parted ways with lover John Mayer.

The 40-year-old insists that she fails to understand why her chequered love life draws such publicity.

“I’m baffled why people are so interested,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

“It’s so weird – even my dog Norman gets recognised. He’s famous. But I’ve told him no more Oprah appearances.

“It’s been horrendous at times. I’ve had to simply move through it,” she added. (ANI)

M.I.A. seeks Winfrey’s help to stop attacks on Sri Lankan Tamils

London, May 9 (ANI): British-born singer M.I.A., real name Mathangi Arulpragasam, has begged US talk show host Oprah Winfrey to help stop the attacks on Sri Lankan Tamils.

The singer, who was born in the UK to Sri Lankan parents, was a child when her father returned to the Asian country to join in the fight for a separate Tamil state there.

The battle between Tamil activists and the Sri Lankan Government has descended into bloody violence, and M.I.A. claims that thousands of civilians are regularly killed in bombing raids.

M.I.A., 31, had met Winfrey at a recent event to honour Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.

Their meeting impressed her so much that she has now taken to her MySpace.com page to ask the media queen for help.

“She (Oprah) squeeeezed my hand so hard, I was convinced she cared. Michelle Obama gave a speech and there was mad secret service in the air so I didn’t get to throw a paper plane at her saying ‘stop the bombing of the Tamils in Sri Lanka’,” the Daily Star quoted her as writing.

“I wasn’t sure about my influence but……..if I do have any influence, I wish I could get the media to spotlight this… Oprah can you do something bout these camps pleeeeeeeeeease?” she added. (ANI)

Susan Boyle banned from singing for Oprah by Simon Cowell

London, May 8 (ANI): Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell has banned Susan Boyle, who is all set to make an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show, from singing for Oprah.

Susan, 48, who will take the stage on special episode of Oprah, called The Worlds Got Talent, has been asked to refrain from singing, as the BGT bosses want to save her incredible singing for her semi-final appearance on the show.

Apparently the BGT bosses are also concerned the Scots rivals might think it would give her an unfair advantage, as up to 10 million viewers are expected to tune in to the show.

The show will also feature acts from some of the 40 countries where the show is filmed, including the runners up from last years BGT, Signature.

Even Simon Cowell will be grilled by Oprah about the show’s global appeal.

“Simon wont be able to keep a smile from his face as the show just seems to be getting bigger and better,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying. (ANI)

Susan Boyle ‘shows her house around to Oprah’s crew’

London, May 6 (ANI): Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle reportedly showed her house around to a television crew for The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The 48-year-old, who had wooed all with her jaw-dropping performance of the Les Misérables song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ on the talent show, seemed set to join the chat queen Oprah on the sets of the show.

The crew allegedly shot for several hours and even tried to persuade neighbours to share their part of the surprise story on camera.

“Susan was clearly happy to give the American crew an insight into her life. They seem to have an insatiable appetite to know all about her,” the Scotsman quoted one onlooker as saying. (ANI)

Martha’s Vineyard prepares for possible Obama vacation

Washington, May 5 (ANI): Though the White House says President Obama and his family have “no plans” to vacation on Martha’s Vineyard this August, businesses on the island for the rich and famous are preparing for a possible “First Family” visit.

Well-connected residents of Martha’s Vineyard, a seashore paradise, say President Obama has rented a home in the East Chop neighborhood of Oak Bluffs — a town on the island’s northeastern shore that is rich in African-American history.

Notable black Americans have owned homes in Oak Bluffs, including writer Dorothy West, former Massachusetts Sen. Edward Brooke, and New York Rep. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., the first African-American congressman from the East Coast since Reconstruction.

Other celebrities, including Spike Lee and Oprah Winfrey, have been frequent guests in the island community, Fox News reports.

Oak Bluffs is gearing up for Washington royalty as the Obamas’ popularity on the island is palpable.

Art galleries lining Vineyard Haven’s main street are adorned with paintings of the president. The Crocker House Inn is arranging a Michelle Obama “welcome bag” filled with island delicacies and local flowers. And Mocha Mott’s coffee shop is brewing a special roast called “Mochabama” — a blend of black and white chocolates, store owner Tim Dobel told FOXNews.com.

“His visit would be great for business,” said Andrew Gilmore, a worker at the island’s landmark retail store, The Black Dog.

Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce executive director Nancy Gardella could not confirm that the president will be staying here this summer, but said “people are definitely talking about it.”

Gardella said she is working to create a Web site where islanders can post activity suggestions for the first family, such as a kayaking trip out to Cape Poge in Chappaquiddick or a trip to the island’s most popular ice cream store.

“The vineyard has a long history of presidential hospitality, and we would be thrilled to welcome the president and his family,” she said.

Bill and Hillary Clinton made several trips to Martha’s Vineyard in the 1990s, often staying at friends’ homes in Edgartown.

Though the island has an eclectic mix of people, Gardella and others said Martha’s Vineyard has long appealed to the rich and famous because “you can walk around without having a shave and nobody cares.”

While residents express excitement over a possible presidential visit, the question most whispered in local taverns is: From whom might Obama be renting a vacation home?

“No oyster knife has cracked that one open just yet, but all bets are on Ron Davenport, Wayne Budd, or Charles Ogletree,” said a local businessman, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Obama, who does not own a vacation home, visited Martha’s Vineyard last August to attend a campaign fundraiser at the waterfront home of Ron Davenport — chairman of Pittsburgh-based Sheridan Broadcasting Corp., the largest African-American-owned communications network in the United States.

The president has stayed at the Oak Bluffs home of Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree — a close confidant — on several occasions, beginning in 2004 after the Democratic National Convention in Boston. Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett also has a home in Oak Bluffs.

Planned visit or not, residents say the buzz over an Obama retreat is a boost to the island’s economy. (ANI)

Oprah makes her Twitter debut

Washington, Apr 18 (ANI): After Ashton Kutcher’s record-breaking debut on Twitter, the social networking world has now welcomed yet another celebrity entrant – Oprah Winfrey.

Around 10 a.m. on April 17, the talk-show queen posted her first Twitter message, entirely in caps.

“HI TWITTERS . THANK YOU FOR A WARM WELCOME. FEELING REALLY 21st CENTURY,” Us magazine quoted her as writing on Twitter.

With 75,000 followers so far, Winfrey has added Demi Moore and Jimmy Fallon in her friend list.

Fallon even “tweeted” to tell her that he was at a deli for a photo shoot.

And she replied: “Hi Jimmy. Order a reuben for me.”

Oprah also posted an update on her newly adopted blond cocker spaniel Sadie, who is suffering from a gastrointestinal tract disease.

“Sadie’s great. Gets her rabies vaccine today,” said Winfrey. (ANI)

Second sex scandal in South African school ‘disappoints’ Oprah

Washington, Apr 1 (ANI): Oprah Winfrey is ‘disappointed’ as her all-girls boarding school in South Africa has been hit by a second sex scandal since opening two years ago.

According to the Afrikaans on Sunday newspaper, seven students at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy School for Girls near Johannesburg were suspended last week for sexually harassing their schoolmates.

The paper reports that one 15-year-old ‘preyed’ another student and urged her victims to lie to investigators about what happened, reports Usmagazine.com.

According to the report, other girls were alleged to have been ‘intimidating others into partaking of inappropriate behaviours’ at the 46-million-dollar school.

A letter sent to one of the suspended girls’ parents reportedly read: “You have been found guilty of physical contact of a sexual nature with another pupil on campus, harassment, bullying other girls on campus and of being dishonest by not telling investigators the whole truth.”

The talk show host released a statement calling the scandal ‘disheartening.’

“I’m disappointed that several of our students chose to disregard the school’s rules. It’s disheartening when any student has to be suspended or expelled and it’s a process that involves serious review and consideration.

“We insist on maintaining a campus environment that commands mutual respect, fosters academic excellence and encourages learners to fulfill their best potential. Indiscretions resulting in disciplinary action are common in schools all over the world.

“Unfortunately, because of my name these common infractions place the Academy in the media spotlight,” she stated. (ANI)

Oprah’s school lands in second sex scandal in 2 years

New York, March 31 (ANI): Oprah Winfrey’s girls-only boarding school in South Africa has landed in another sex scandal in less than two years.

Seven students at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls now face suspension after being accused of sexually harassing their fellow pupils.

According to the newspaper Afrikaans on Sunday, a girl of 15 was found guilty of preying upon another student and forcing other girls to conceal the truth from investigators.

Other girls were “caught fondling each other or trying to get other girls to join them in lesbian liaisons”.

Lisa Halliday, Oprah’s spokesperson, confirmed the suspension.

“It is because they contravened the school’s code of conduct. We regard the incident as confidential,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying.

The incident comes nearly two years after a female school staffer was accused of physically and sexually abusing students in October 2007.

On learning upon the sex charges, Oprah had then said: “I am a mama bear when it comes to protecting my children.

“These girls are like my children. That’s not just rhetoric for me. I take their futures and the possibility for what their futures hold very seriously.” (ANI)

Real Housewives of New York star: I can make Oprah Winfrey thin

Washington, Mar 25 (ANI): The Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel says she can help talk show queen Oprah Winfrey lose those pesky pounds and keep them off.

And the trick is: her new book, Naturally Thin: Unleash Your SkinnyGirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting.

“I never thought about writing a book, but I figured out how to be thin and not obsessed and I was like ‘wow’ so I had to write about it. I know how much my friends and I struggled. All I talked about was what I ate and I worked out all the time, now I don’t even work out that much – maybe two days a week if I can,” Fox news quoted Frankel, as saying.

“Women in America are going to be thinner because of this book, Oprah is going to be thinner, nobody needs to freak out anymore,” she added.

The 38-year-old reality starlet has been very open about her weight struggles and eating disorders since childhood and even admitted it wasn’t so long ago that she was easily 15-20 pounds heavier.

“Being skinny didn’t come easy for me, I was on every single diet and grew up in a life of diet obsession and food noise. But now I’ve freed myself and I can worry about other things,” she said. (ANI)

Gemma Arterton commits ‘knickers-flashing’ fashion faux pas

London, Mar 21 (ANI): Hollywood actress Gemma Arterton, who created waves with her utterly fashionable style in the recent Bond flick, committed a fashion faux pas when she accidentally flashed her knickers while getting into a cab.

What is more is that Gemma was caught wearing a large underwear stretching from bust to thigh while boarding the cab, meant to conceal the fat.

However, Gemma is not the only celebrity who likes to sport the large tummy-tightening pants, as celebrities like Kimberley Walsh, Katie Holmes, Gwen Stefani, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah also admit wearing it.

Gemma has already emphasized that she does not believe in starving herself to get the skinny look, as she thinks rounder figure is much more attractive.

“I refuse to conform to the muscly, sinewy look that so many actresses seem to think is attractive,” the Mirror quoted her as saying earlier. (ANI)

Now, Donald Trump blasts Rihanna for reconciling with Chris Brown

Washington, Mar 10 (ANI): Business magnate Donald Trump has lashed out at Rihanna for reconciling with Chris Brown, who allegedly attacked her and left her with horrific injuries.

Trump uttered dismay after hearing reports stating that Rihanna has unified with Brown, who brutally battered her.

“If she goes back, she’s a loser and she doesn’t deserve to have any future successes,” Contactmusic quoted Donald, as saying.

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey is also humming the same tune – she has urged Rihanna to rethink her decision of reconciling with Brown.

“You need somebody to tell you the truth in this moment. And the truth is guys, both Chris Brown and Rihanna, if I were your friend, I would call you up and I would say, give it some time, get yourself some counselling, take care of yourself, heal yourself first,” Oprah said on her show.

“And also, love doesn’t hurt. I’ve been saying this to women for years – love doesn’t hurt. And, if a man hits you once, he will hit you again. He will hit you again. I don’t care what his plea is, he will hit you again,” she added.

Meanwhile, Brown who allegedly attacked Rihanna and left with horrific injuries including a split lip, a bloody nose and bite nose on her hands, has been charged on two felony accounts and has been released on a bail of 50,000 dollars until a hearing on April 6. (ANI)

Oprah Winfrey names new pup ‘Sadie’

Washington, Mar 6 (ANI): Oprah Winfrey has decided on a name for his latest pet cocker spaniel-Sadie.

Winfrey and long-time partner Stedman Graham adopted the dog on March 1 at the PAWS shelter on Clybourn.

The talk show queen’s beloved cocker spaniel Sophie died last March, and she still owns another dog of that same breed named Solomon.

And now, she has revealed that she’s settled on “Sadie” as the name for the new canine addition to her household.

Oprah is planning to unveil her “new baby” on her talk show on March 8, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. (ANI)

Facebook gets celebrity-centred makeover

London, March 5 (ANI): Keeping a track of celebrities and causes just got easier – all thanks to Facebook.

The popular social networking site has made changes to its services, which would soon make it simple to keep track of famous stars.

Facebook has announced that members can view the new home page design from March 11, which include increased friend limit and a rephrasing of the status update question.

The site’s 175 million users would be able to follow profile pages of celebrities, organisations and causes while remaining updated about their friends.

“This means that you can find out that Oprah is reading a book backstage before a show just as you would see that your friend uploaded new photos from her trip to Europe,” Sky News quoted founder Mark Zuckerberg as saying.

“You can decide you no longer want to get updates from your old friend from high school who you rarely talk to, or you can filter the stream to only see updates about your family members,” he added in a blog post.

The development was speculated to be a move made to keep up with rival microblogging site Twitter that boats of various high profile members including US President Barack Obama, singer Lindsay Lohan.

TechCrunch blogger Erick Schonfeld said: “Facebook is trying to shore itself up as the foundation for a living, rapid-fire web where the line between private messages and public content is blurred,” he wrote.

“Under no circumstances does it want to cede the thought stream of its users to Twitter.” (ANI)
