X-rays reveal 10 rocks in pooch”s stomach

New York, May 20 (ANI): A 2-year-old dog swallowed 10 rocks, the biggest the size of a chicken egg.

Mia, a German shepherd-greyhound mix was taken in to the Willakenzie Animal Clinic in Eurgene, Ore. after her owner, Vivian Cooper, tossed a ball for the pooch to fetch and heard a noisy rattle.

“The sound was really quite loud, like she had marbles in her pocket,” the New York Daily News quoted Cooper as telling peoplepets.com

“I leaned down and put my head near her ribcage and shook her. Inside it went, clunk-clunk-clunk-clunk-clunk.”

X-rays showed 10 rocks in Mia”s stomach. She had swallowed these from the backyard water fountain.

However, Mia is doing fine – since the rocks were big and smooth they didn”t hurt her stomach”s lining or make her sick. (ANI)

Brit dog owner fined £1,100 for letting pet Labrador grow fat!

London, Sep 2 (ANI): A Brit dog owner has been fined more than 1,100 pounds for letting his pet Labrador get so fat that he weighed the same as a grown man.

NHS worker Melvyn Davies, 58, from Beaumaris in Anglesey, North Wales, has admitted to causing the 11st animal, known as Ben, unnecessary suffering.

The 10-year-old dog weighed 70 kilos instead of the recommended 25, and also had an untreated wound on his neck.

But Davies has blamed Ben’s short legs for his lack of exercise, saying they caused him to balloon in size.

“Ben is now down to six-and-a-half stones and doing well. He’s a beautiful, friendly dog but in 35 years I had never seen a dog so obese,” the Daily Express quoted RSPCA Inspector Kevin Paton as saying.

Magistrates at Holyhead fined Davies 1,170 pounds, plus 100 pounds costs.

They deprived him of Ben, now looked after privately, but he escaped a blanket ban on keeping animals. (ANI)

Winfrey’s pet pooch Sadie recovering after bout with parvovirus

New York, Mar 24 (ANI): American talk show host Oprah Winfrey’s cocker spaniel puppy Sadie is said to be recovering from her bout with parvovirus and appears to be on the mend.

Sadie has been hospitalised for more than a week fighting off the potentially life-threatening disease, which recently killed Sadie’s littermate, Ivan.

Winfrey revealed on her show on March 20 that her dog was getting better and that Sadie had remained stable over the weekend.

“She was on plasma replacements and four antibiotics and she’s been through a lot,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying.

“Sadie still does not have her little puppy personality back yet,” she added.

Winfrey had adopted the 8-week-old dog from the PAWS Chicago shelter and she had introduced Sadie to her millions of television viewers on March 6.

The disease has the same effect on dogs that cholera would have on a human and its symptoms are lethargic behaviour followed by severe bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Dogs suffering parvovirus can die from dehydration if they are not treated with intravenous fluids, said Manhattan veterinarian Dr. Phillip Raclyn.

“It doesn’t help the dog to drink,” he stated. (ANI)
