Tiger in for a ‘heckle’ of a time at this year’s St Andrews Open

St Andrews, Apr 28 (ANI): Chief of R&A – the regulatory body of golf, Peter Dawson has announced that no extra security will be provided to the beleaguered golfer Tiger Woods at the Golf Open in St Andrews.

The move may leave Woods, who has faced stinging criticism following his numerous extra-marital dalliances at the mercy of jeering spectators.

That notwithstanding, Peter Dawson maintains St Andrews is not “a police state and people can say what they like as long as it doesn”t put them off and it is not intrusive to the game.

“The response we saw at Augusta was not exactly enthusiastic. The overwhelming feeling was relief. Tiger was back when it looked like he might be out for quite some time.” the Sun quoted him, as saying.

“His behaviour deteriorated. No one who cares for the etiquette of the game would have been happy” he added.

Woods’ unsportsmanlike at the Masters this year had shocked spectators after he threw clubs and uttered obscenities as he missed a cut in a Major for the first time in thirteen years as a pro.

Woods has made a comeback to professional golf in the aftermath of intense personal turmoil and negative publicity. (ANI)

Vandals ‘frighten’ Gunns chairman

The Magistrates Court in Launceston has heard the chairman of Tasmanian timber company, Gunns Ltd, is becoming frightened by vandalism attacks on his home.

A 21 year old man has pleaded guilty to trespass and destroying property belonging to John Gay.

The Magistrates Court heard last October, Matthew Phillip Standaloft was walking through East Launceston with a friend when he decided to attack John Gay’s house.

Standaloft was very drunk when he jumped the property’s fence and lit a sparkler bomb on the front doorstep.

The device created a loud bang while his co-accused allegedly painted graffiti the front fence.

The court was told Mr Gay heard obscenities being yelled about his company’s proposed pulp mill and asked police to investigate.

Mr Gay said he is becoming frightened and sick of harassment happening at his house.

Standaloft said he was sorry, and disappointed with his drunken actions.

The Magistrate fined him $800 and accepted that Standaloft did not act with political or activist motivations.

‘Ridiculously drunk’ mom knees daughter’s school principal in the groin

Melbourne, Jun 25 (ANI): A woman, who was in a very inebriated state, could not recall punching, spitting and kneeing her daughter’s school principal in the groin.

Karen Lee Pommer, 47, attacked Jeff Munce when she went to pick up her eight-year-old daughter from Warrigal Road State School in the Brisbane suburb of Eight Mile Plains on October 31 last year.

The Brisbane District Court was told on June 25 that Pommer entered the school grounds screaming obscenities while the students waited to be collected at the end of the day.

When Munce approached her she punched his head repeatedly, then kneed him in the groin and spat in his face.

She also slapped and spat at another mother who tried to intervene.

The court was told Pommer – who was infected with hepatitis C – then spat at and bit three police officers who arrived to arrest her.

None of her victims contracted the highly infectious disease.

When she was hauled into the police vehicle, she then wriggled free from her handcuffs and smashed one of the windows.

Defence barrister Jann Taylor said Pommer, a chronic alcoholic, had been suffering an “alcohol-induced blackout”‘ when she went to the school.

“She was ridiculously drunk to the point of no recollection,” News.com.au quoted Taylor as saying.

Pommer pleaded guilty to 10 offences including three counts of serious assault and two of common assault.

Judge Leanne Clare sentenced her to two years’ jail but released her on parole immediately. (ANI)

Nick Cannon accuses Eminem of ‘racial bigotry’ after Carey rap

Washington, May 11 (ANI): American actor Nick Cannon has accused rapper Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers III, of “racial bigotry” after the latter made a derogatory new track mentioning Mariah Carey.

Cannon, 28, who married Carey, 39, last year, is furious with Eminem, 36, for putting his and his wife’s name in a controversial song, which is featured on his latest album ‘Relapse’.

In his latest LP, Eminem had recorded Bagpipes From Baghdad, and in it he comments on his alleged romance with Carey – one that she vehemently denies.

“Nick Cannon better back the f**k up. I’m not playing, I want her back, you punk. Nick Cannon, you pr**k, I wish you luck with that f**kin’ whore,” Contactmusic quoted Eminem as rapping in the track.

But Cannon isn’t going to let the star get away with his comments – vowing that Eminem’s words will have “repercussions”.

“A mediocre (at best) Eminem record that sounds like it was written in 2001.

At first, I thought it was old material that had been dug up from when dude ‘fantasised’ about having a pretend fling with Mariah. … But all of a sudden I hear my name in the verse! My first reaction was like, ‘This is his new s**t? Wow, that’s too bad’,” he wrote on his blog.

“Maybe I’m going too far, but I thought we got past the days where white men could spew vulgar obscenities at our beautiful queens and get away with it.

“What’s next? Are we going to let this trash say something horrible about our lovely first lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama? Or would Marshall have talked sideways out of his neck like this about Oprah Winfrey? This act of racist bigotry cannot go unnoticed.

“Calling my wife a ‘c**t’ and a ‘whore’ is way worse than anything Don Imus could have ever said. So trust, repercussions will be served. Anybody got Al Sharpton’s number?!

“So, Miss Marshall, I’m going to make you wish you never spoke my name and regret the ungodly things you said about my wife. This is going to be fun!

It’s however you want it! Just remember, you did this to yourself! Your legacy has now been tainted from this day forth! You will now be known as the rapper who lost to corny-ass Nick Cannon!” he added.

The blog, which featured on Cannon’s official website, has since been taken down due to an overload of comments.(ANI)

Drogba faces a big UEFA ban for F-word tirade at referee

London, May 7 (ANI): Chelsea striker Didier Drogba faces a big UEFA ban after he hurled an F-word tirade at Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo as Barcelona hit a 93rd-minute goal to reach the Champions League final.

Millions of stunned TV viewers saw Drogba square up to the ref on the pitch after he had rejected four penalty appeals.

Drogba screamed obscenities at the TV cameras, forcing Sky to issue a rushed apology. Then the Ivory Coast star stormed down the tunnel and hurled abuse at Ovrebo, The Sun reports.

An eyewitness said: “Drogba was coming down the tunnel with referee Ovrebo alongside him. He kept shouting at Henning and the referee stopped.” Drogba turned towards the ref and put his face just three or four inches from the ref’s face and kept shouting. He told the ref ‘This is a f***ing disgrace, you don’t have respect, something like that can’t happen. You can’t do that’.

“All the time he used his hand to intimidate the ref further. He kept slamming his hand to the wall just inches from the ref’s face. Ovrebo looked terrified – but never said anything,” the eyewitness added.

Chelsea star Michael Ballack then joined in until the terrified referee ran back on to the pitch to avoid more confrontation.

The eyewitness also added: “Drogba looked crazy. He had lost control. But he never laid a finger on the ref, even though his behaviour was anything but civil.”

Last night Ovrebo admitted to UEFA representatives at the match that he had made “significant mistakes” during the game. But Drogba’s behaviour is certain to trigger a UEFA probe.

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink defended the disgraceful reaction of his players. “I can fully understand the emotion of the game, the players’ disappointment. It’s not just one decision made in doubt but several decisions.” (ANI)

11yr-olds get swearing lesson in UK school

London, April 4 (ANI): A school in England has come under fire for making kids as young as 11 shout obscenities during a lesson in swearing.

A teacher at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon, Wilts, wrote expletives like the F-word and C-word on a blackboard, and explained their meaning to 30 Year 7 pupils.

The school claims that the lesson was part of a sex and relationship education programme to “dispel” the myths of swear words.

Parents, however, insist that no consultation was held with them prior to the class, and that the children attending it were left “deeply upset”.

“This is a total disgrace. Our children go to school to gain an education, not qualifications in swear words. Most kids had no idea what the words meant and were forced to grow up faster than their parents want. Heads should roll for this,” British tabloid The Sun quoted one parent as saying.

Some students have even revealed that they were asked not to tell their parents about the lesson.

Deputy head Richard Clutterbuck said last night: “This lesson should not have focused on the slang terms. I must apologise for any distress caused.”

Wilts County Council said that it is the Governors’ responsibility to decide specifics of sex education lessons. (ANI)

Ganer, a traditional procession of abuses in Himachal

By Prem Thakur

Naggar (Kullu), Jan.2 (ANI): A number of villagers in Himachal Pradesh’s Naggar Village participate in a unique procession in which the participants give choicest of expletives as part of an age-old ritual to keep any probable evil spirit at bay from the vicinity of the area.

About two thousand villagers took part in this annual procession earlier this week, which went around the village following the age-old practice here.

“We take out a procession hurling obscenities, to ward off the evil spirits,” said Joginder Acharya, the priest.

“Ganer” procession is a draw for all here. As the men take out the procession through the narrow lanes of the village, carrying a man on a pole with sheep horns adorning his head and hurling abuses at the same time, which they believe would ward off evil spirits.

Women are prohibited to participate in the procession.

The procession then heads to an old castle at hilltop, stated to be belonging to the erstwhile ruler of the area, where a particular member reads out the yearly report and forecasts about the year ahead.

Legend has it that the ancient ruler of the region, locally known as ”Kullu Raja” once organised a dancing competition where his brother-in-law won and got lots of appreciation from his sister, the Queen. Unable to stand it, the King cut his brother-in-law”s head.

As a penance for his sin, the King prayed to a local deity who helped him get back his brother-in-law”s life by attaching a head of the sheep to his body.

The King then took out a procession carrying his brother-in-law on a pole. Since then the ritual has been carried on by the people of Naggar.

By evening, about 5,000 people converge in the fields to watch a tug of war between the villagers of Naggar and followers of Jamdagini seer, symbolizing gods and demons. It is conducted to establish the supremacy of the good over evil. (ANI)
