SunTec, Seachange partnership offers integrated IPTV billing solution

Gangtok to have 3 G services

Gangtok, June 23 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Sachin Pilot has said that the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is to launch 3 G services in Gangtok by August 15.

Announcing the extension of 3 G services to other three districts within 100 days, the Minister said, BSNL would increase its broadband strength to 30 GB PPS to improve services in Sikkim. All the 26 blocks in the State would be covered by broadband services within 100 days.

After a review meeting with BSNL, Postal Department and State I and T in Gangtok, he said, traffic congestion in mobile services in twenty one sectors of the State would be removed by August 15 this year through improved quality of service by BSNL.

Underlying the importance of Sikkim, Pilot said that special measures have been taken to improve the quality of services in North East through communication and information technology, with specific emphasis on Sikkim.

“It is a difficult terrain and the ministry would support the efforts to improve information and technology in Sikkim, as it would increase opportunities for the talented youth,” he added. (ANI)

Virbhadra Singh assumes charge of Steel Ministry

New Delhi, May 29 (ANI): Minister for Steel Virbhadra Singh assumed charge here on Friday.

He was welcomed by Steel Secretary P.K.Rastogi and other senior officers.

Talking to reporters after taking charge, he said that one of his key priorities would be to ensure that the expansion programmes of the public sector giants the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) is completed in time in a cost effective fashion.

“While the capacity of SAIL will go up to 26 million tons that of RINL will go up to six million tons after the expansion. Both the expansion programmes will involve an expenditure of over Rs.70, 000 crore,” he said.

He added that steel sector in India and China have recorded positive growth during the first quarter of this calendar year while the global steel production has contracted by 23 per cent during the same period.

“Another focus area will be to bring in a rational, seamless and transparent regime for allocation of raw material resources to existing and prospective steel producers,” he said. He further said, the Ministry of Mines would be requested to undertake consequential amendments to Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 to bring amendments to force.

“There is a need to restructure some of the smaller steel PSUs and for attempting mergers to capture the benefits of improved synergies. The companies under restructuring/merger mode include the Bird group of companies, the HSCL, the BRL and the SIIL,” he said (ANI)

Melbourne, April 5 (ANI): Kylie Minogue reportedly had a first-hand experience with Farah Khan’s infamous temper after she was shouted at and bossed around during the choreography for ‘Blue’.

The Aussie singer, in a stunning silver mini dress with sequins, was allegedly told off by the choreographer while she shot with Akshay Kumar and 100 extras to the tunes of her song recorded with Sonu Nigam.

“Kylie, I want to see those tassels move now!” the Daily Telegraph quoted Farah as shouting.

The stunning superstar, wrapped in the Manish Malhotra creation, just nodded her humble head in return, according to reports.

A sequence in the choreography allegedly sees Kylie tossed up in the air by one of the dancers before she runs off the stage.

The 40-year-old shares the frame with main cast including Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and Zayed Khan.

She has been rumoured to be banking 1.55 million dollars for two days of rehearsals and five days of shooting. (ANI)

3G auction likely to start by the end of current fiscalMuch awaited 3G spectrum auction, a move to usher India in high speed Internet and mobile utility, is likely to be completed before the end of current financial year after the final decision of the Empowered Group of Ministers.

Hoping early disposal of all technical and managerial hurdles, Union Minister for Communication, A Raja, said, “There are still chances of completing the entire auction process before the end of this fiscal. We will sign the memorandum of understanding with the Defence Ministry. Defense will release 10 to 15 mega hertz of spectrum the day the agreement is signed.”

He said that government has yet to finalize the base price, revenue from which is projected of Rs 20,000 crore as compared to earlier revenue estimates of Rs 30,000-Rs
40,000 crore by the Telecommunication Ministry.

Mr. Raja further said, “There are many things which have led to a lower base price. How many slots will be given in the spectrum auction has still not been decided.”

He hoped that people of Tamil Nadu would enjoy 3G services, to be started by the state-run telephone operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), before the end of February.

Cast and crew of Bollywood film ‘Gajini’ celebrate film’s success

Mumbai, Jan 14 (ANI): Cast and crew of the Bollywood film ‘Gajini’ celebrated the success of the film here last evening after the film raked in more than two billion rupees at the box office.

‘Ghajini’ statues were presented to Bollywood actors Aamir Khan, Asin and the director of the film A.R. Murugadoss.

A special cake was cut on the occasion with two billion rupees written on it.

Aamir Khan, who cut the cake, praised Murugadoss and said the film was his vision.

“Gajini has been really special. It had such a strong impact on the audience across the world and right down to the small centres across India. It is really heart warming,” said Aamir.

‘Gajini’, a film that introduced Asin to Hindi cinema opposite superstar Aamir, was released with 1,200 prints in the domestic market and in a lot of small towns where films are not often released in the first week.

Asin said that the response of the audiences to her first Hindi film was greatly encouraging that touched her heart.

“Tamil ‘Gajini’ was well received in the market when it was released and was loved by the audiences and now this reaction for Hindi Gajini. It is very hear touching,” said Asin.

Ace music director A.R. Rahman, who has recently bagged his first Golden Globe Award for the film ‘Slumdog Millionarie’, has rendered music of the film. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi has composed the lyrics of the film.

Plethora of singers like Javed Ali, Sonu Nigam, Suzanne D’Mello, Benny Dayal and Shreya Ghosal have lent their voice for ‘Gajani’.

The movie with more than 200 crore rupees earnings so far has become the highest earner in Bollywood in just two weeks. It is likely to break the all-time records in the long run.

In the overseas market, it is now second only to Karan Johar’s hit film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ which collected 440 million rupees. ‘Gajini’ has emerged as one of the highest grosser of the year 2008. (ANI)

India, Myanmar sign telecommunication cooperation pact

Mandalay (Myanmar), Feb.8 (ANI): Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari today witnessed the opening of Trans-Border Optical Fiber Communication Link between Myanmar and India, which enabled the former to get its first international broadband technology gateway.

Besides the establishment of a cross-border link, India also signed an agreement with Myanmar for providing it with a telecommunication service.

The agreement was signed between Myanmar Posts and Telecommunication (MPT) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, a Public Sector Unit of Government of India. The agreement was signed by Tint Lwin, General Manager, Myanmar Posts and Telecommunication and N K Jain, Group General Manager, BSNL.

The project for implemetation of optical fiber link between Moreh in India (Manipur) and Mandalay in Myanmar, together with ADSC system was signed between Myanmar Posts and Telecommunication (MPT) and Telecommunication Consultants India Limited (TCIL), PSU on March 9, 2006.

Myanmar’s Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs, Brigadier General Thein Zaw said the link and the pact would enhance communication helping for the development of Myanmar IT and telecom industry. The cross border fiber link, he said, would enable Myanmar to route its internatinal voice traffic through the Indian border town of Moreh and hoped to utilize India’s internet backbone fully in future also.

Minister Zaw acknowledged India’s contribution towards IT development in Myanmar, which is abysmally low when compared to what the country’s neighbours possess.

He said that the successful project will certainly assist the broadband information and communication technology in Myanmar and it wll also encourage the good relationship that has already existed between the two countries.

TCIL Chaiman and Managing Director Rakesh Upadhyay said the company would keep working with Myanmar to provide technical support and furthering the cause in the area of telecommunication. By Ravi Shankar (ANI)

Mughal Garden to open from February 7

New Delhi, Feb 6 (ANI): Flowers in Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Mughal Gardens are in full bloom and would open for public display from February 7 to March 10.

The theme of this year is roses, and the garden has about 125 varieties of the flower.

“This year theme is rose. We have over 125 different varieties of roses, ranging from usual colours red, pink, white and yellow. The attractions will be blue rose,” Nigam Prakash, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Horticulture, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The rectangular garden has several winter seasonal bulbous and flowering beds, with the prominent being the variety of roses, which are at full bloom and are centre of attraction.

In addition, Dahlias, Tulips, Asiatic Lilies and other seasonal flowers add to the beauty of the garden.

The Mughal Garden is opened to the public only for a month every year.

The garden will be open to the general public on all days 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Mondays being maintenance days and on March 11 the day of the Holi Festival.

The entry into the garden will close at 4 p.m. through Gate No.35, which is located near North Avenue.

The Mughal Garden includes the Musical Garden, the Spiritual Garden, the Herbal Garden, the Biodiversity Park and the Nakshatra Garden.
The Mughal Garden, contiguous to the main building of Rashtrapati Bhavan, cover an area of 15 acres. Sir Edwin Lutyens designed the beautiful gardens.he rectangular garden is divided into four quarters, each with terraced gardens on either side.

The Central Lawn is the venue of numerous receptions and ”At Homes” hosted by the President. (ANI)

Maoists blow up mobile phone control room in Bihar

Maigra Village (Bihar), Jan 29 (ANI): Maoists blew up the control room of a cellular telephone’s tower at Maigra village in Gaya District of Bihar to snap communication links in the area.

About 50 heavily armed activists of the Communist Party of India (Maoists) attacked the control room of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) tower.

According to the security guard deployed at the tower, the rebels forced him to vacate the place before they detonated it with dynamites.

“I was resting in the control room. The rebels force opened the door and took me to some other place. They asked me not to go anywhere and then they started the rampage in the room,” said Ranjeet Kumar, guard, BSNL tower, Maigra.

It is learnt that the Maoists blew up the phone towers so that their activities are not known to the police.

The Maoists claims they are fighting for the rights of poor landless peasants and marginal farmers. They routinely call for strikes, attack government property and target local politicians. (ANI)
