SunTec, Seachange partnership offers integrated IPTV billing solution

Amsterdam (Netherlands)/ Trivandrum (Kerala), Sep 14 (ANI/Business Wire India): SunTec, the leading provider of convergent transaction pricing and billing solutions for the Communication, Media and Entertainment industry, has partnered with video-on-demand, IPTV and advertising software and systems leader SeaChange International to offer television service providers globally automated provisioning of IPTV consumers and accounts in ‘near real time’, while supporting complex revenue sharing business rules.

The SunTec and SeaChange partnership has already resulted in the integration of SunTec’s convergent billing solution, TBMS-T, with SeaChange’s TV Navigator IPTV middleware for the Smart Digivision’s MyWay (http://www.myway.in) IPTV service. Available in 54 cities across India on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (http://www.bsnl.co.in) (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (http://www.mtnl.net.in) (MTNL) broadband networks, MyWay is expected to reach three million subscribers in the first five years.

26/11 trial: Judge expresses surprise over Home minister’s statement

Mumbai, Aug 26 (ANI): Judge M.L Tahiliyani who is presiding over the 26/11 trial expressed surprise on Wednesday over Maharashtra Home Minister Jayant Patil’s statement that the verdict will be delivered on September 15.

“Your Home Minister makes a statement that the case will be over by September 15 but his officer has still not submitted documents in the court,” Judge Tahiliyani told to Special Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikkam.

Nikkam, however, informed the court that he had personally spoke to Patil on the matter and Patil had clarified that the media had misquoted him.

He had remarked about recording of evidence are expected to be over by September 15 and not about the delivery of judgement, Nikkam said quoting Patil.

A section of media quoted Patil as saying that the judgement of 26/11 Mumbai attack case will be delivered on September 15.

Judge Tahiliyani is conducting the trial of lone surviving gunman Mohammed Ajmal Kasab and two accused members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Faheem Ansari and Shahbuddin Ahmed.

He expressed concern over the non-submission of the opinion of ballistic expert to the court by the investigating officer.

The prosecution has examined 157 witnesses so far pertaining to the firing incidents of Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) firing, and Cama Hospital, stealing of Skoda car and the killing of Amarsing Solanki, the navigator of M V Kuber.

The incidents of Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel, Nariman House and explosions in two taxis are yet to be proved. (ANI)

World’s largest solar boat under construction in Germany

Washington, April 12 (ANI): A team of scientists, engineers, and yachtsmen are making what they say will be the largest solar boat ever built, with a view to making a trip around the world.

Planet Solar is being built at the Knierim Yacht Club in Kiel, Germany.

The 13-million-dollar revolutionary vessel will be 98 feet long and 50 feet wide. That climbs to 114 feet and 82 feet when the solar panels are fully unfurled.

It will feature 5,059 square feet of photovoltaic cells.

Rivendell Holding AG, a Swiss firm that invests in renewable energy, is funding the project.

The objective behind this project is to prove that the shipping industry can reduce its dependence on fossil fuel.

The team plans to circumnavigate the globe at the equator in 120 days at an average speed of 10 knots.

Should they succeed, Planet Solar will set a maritime milestone because no one has circumnavigated the globe in a solar electric boat thus far.

“Solar boats are a viable form of transportation for the future. Our society is too dependent on fossil fuels, which are in limited supply and which are causing measurable negative effects on the earth’s atmosphere.

It’s now time to demonstrate the potential that renewable energies have to offer in the area of mobility,” Wired.com quoted Delia Collardi, a spokeswoman for the project, as saying.

Work on the solar cat’s hulls is almost complete, but the project still has a long way to go.

A press kit says the boat will weigh 60 tons and feature 470 square meters – 5,059 square feet – of photovoltaic cells that offer 22 percent efficiency.

Collardi says that the vessel will have enough power to carry skipper Raphael Domjan, the 37-year-old founder of Planet Solar, and navigator Gerard d’Aboville, both of whom are accomplished sailors and adventurers.

The route is still being worked out, but Planet Solar will set sail from Marseilles, France, sometime next year and cross the Atlantic, then cut through the Panama Canal to cross the Pacific.

From there she’ll head south through the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean before crossing the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. Then it’s through the Suez Canal and across the Mediterranean Sea and back home.

Stops in New York, Shanghai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and Monaco are among those being considered.

Collardi has revealed that supporters and well-wishers will be welcomed aboard, and that 50 people can fit inside the catamaran for short jaunts.

‘Lacy underwear’ guiding explorers towards North Pole

London, Mar 30 (ANI): A bunch of Arctic explorers have found a rather ‘saucy’ tool to navigate their way to the North Pole-a pair of lacy underwear for the ladies.

The Catlin Arctic Survey are using a pair of lady’s knickers to help them with directions after compasses failed to work.

The explorers are trekking 700 miles to the North Pole to measure the thickness of the shrinking Arctic icecap.ut because of being very close to magnetic north, the compasses are “going haywire”.

And also, the freezing conditions have rendered the latest global positioning satellite or GPS equipment dysfunctional.

Thus, the team led by Pen Hadow needs to rely on navigating using the position of the sun.

But, when the weather turns cloudy, they follow the direction of the wind, as indicated by a pair of lacy knickers shredded and stuck to the end of a ski pole.

Hadow, who was the first person to trek solo to the North Pole, said a supporter of the expedition kindly donated the knickers.

“It an entirely genuine situation. If you can get gossamer thin material and attach it your ski pole it is particularly useful for this project because we can cannot use the compass as we are so close to magnetic north and it is too cold to use the GPS,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying on satellite phone from the Arctic.

He added: “The knickers have taken up a whole new value operationally.”

Navigator Ann Daniels explained why the knickers were so useful, saying: “Due to our proximity to the Magnetic North Pole, our compasses are currently going haywire.”

Daniels added: “The earth’s strong magnetic field on this part of the ocean means that the compass needle simply spins uselessly in its housing. As such, we’re currently relying on more traditional methods for day-to-day navigation, using the sun (for those few precious hours each day when it graces us with its presence), and using wind direction, as indicated by the panties…” (ANI)

Unique car rally for visually challenged

Mumbai, Feb. 15 (ANI): In a unique car rally here on Monday, dozens of visually challenged people helped their sighted partners to navigate through the city.

Each of the cars had the adventurous duo of a blind navigator and normal person to drive through the 65 kilometers long route.

The car was steered as per the directions given by the visually challenged navigator who noted all the routes from a Braille direction book.

Organised by the National Association for Blind, this rally witnessed a large number of participants.

“We are going to have a good time. All of us are here together and also got a chance to meet new people,” noted Bhagwanbhai Patel, a blind navigator.

Noted documentary film maker and an ace from the arena of advertising, Prahlad Kakkar said that visually challenged people are not vulnerable people and that they are capable of contributing their mite to the society.

“Public should know that visually challenged people are not helpless at all. They have a pride and a need to contribute to the society. And our society has become sensitive to recruit the blind people at workplaces,”said Kakkad, ace documentary filmmaker and advertising expert.

Bollywood actress Urvashi Sharma, music director Rajeev Mehra and social worker Poonam Mahajan were among the celebrities to cheer the participants of the rally.

According to an estimate, there are at least nine million visually challenged people in India. (ANI)
