Naomi Watts to star as Marilyn Monroe in new book-based biopic

London, May 14 (ANI): Naomi Watts is set to play Marilyn Monroe in a new biopic, which is based on a controversial book detailing the actress” love affairs and encounters on the casting couch.

Titled ‘Blonde’, the film is a fictionalised account of Monroe”s life by Joyce Carol Oates, the best-selling US author.

Blonde caused a stir on its publication in 2000, not least because its 700 pages went into salacious detail about Monroe”s sex life.

The book referred to the men in Monroe”s life only by nicknames – “the Ex-Athlete”, “the Playwright” and “the President” standing in for Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller and John F Kennedy.

In one scene from the book, Monroe engaged in a sexual act with the President while he spoke to Fidel Castro on the telephone.

Watts will start shooting the film, which is also called ‘Blonde’, in January.

Details were unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday.

The film will trace the actress” life from her humble beginnings as Norma Jeane Baker, a child bride from a dirt-poor background, to the creation of the Marilyn “myth”.

The film will be directed by Andrew Dominik, of the Brad Pitt Western ‘The Assassination of Jesse James’ fame.

“Why is Marilyn Monroe the great female icon of the 20th century? For men, she is an object of sexual desire who is desperately in need of rescue. For women, she embodies all the injustices visited upon the feminine – a sister, a Cinderella, consigned to live among the ashes,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“I want to tell the story of Norma Jeane as a central figure in a fairy-tale; an orphan child lost in the woods of Hollywood, being consumed by that great icon,” he added.

Vincent Maraval, of the film”s distributor, Wild Bunch, said the biopic “will not be a classic one but a modern Raging Bull which will explore one of the most iconic figures of the last century”. (ANI)

Working mom Naomi Watts feels like a failure

London, May 7 (ANI): Juggling career with two kids- Samuel and Sasha- is making actress Naomi Watts feel like a failure.

The King Kong recently shot new drama ‘Mother and Child’ after returning to work in December 2008, when she gave birth to her second child, Samuel.

“Every single day, I second-guess myself as a mother. I chose to be a mum. It”s something I”ve always wanted, but I feel torn between two worlds.

“I am not reaching the same depths and heights that I used to reach in movies because I”m a parent of two small children, who desperately need me. It”s frustrating because I feel like I”m failing a bit on both ends,” The Daily Express quoted her as telling BlackBook magazine.

Her worries, however, haven’t discouraged her from thinking of extending her family in future, even if it means adopting a child.

She says, “I would love to have an endless brood of children. I grew up in chaos. I feel comfortable in chaos.

“Whether or not I”ll ever adopt remains to be seen, but I totally believe in adoption.” (ANI)

“We did our scene the first day, we kind of knew each other because I know Liev [Schreiber, Watt’s husband], but we’d never really interacted. Our first interaction was that particular scene where she seduces me,” Fox News quoted him as saying.

“For me as an actor, I don’t know how to do that sort of thing in a room full of people, and I tend to ask a lot of questions.

“Where can I touch you? Where can I not touch you? I’m sorry if I get excited, I’m sorry if I don’t… But Naomi really took charge,” he added. (ANI)

The technique involves practicing conventional Yoga postures without clothes.

Various naked yoga clubs have reportedly popped up across USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Spain, Russia, Australia, etc.

Her representative Catherine Olan slammed the article’s writer for fabricating the comments.

Liev Schreiber livid over ‘squirrel like’ X-Men figurine

Washington, May 9 (ANI): Hollywood actor Liev Schreiber, who portrays Victor Creed in X-Men, is disappointed that his X-Men toy figure looks like an angry squirrel.

Live’s character eventually adopts the mutant alter-ego of Sabretooth, opposite Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the flick, but the plastic figure of Sabretooth looks nothing more than an angry bushy squirrel, according to a disappointed Live.

“I have one complaint about it, not that I’m not excited to finally have an action figure after all these years, but I want to know what compelled the designers of this action figure to – I’m assuming they read the plotline for the movie and saw that I play this prehistoric game cat – but what possessed them to make me look like an angry squirrel. You can almost see the nuts (in the mouth)!” Contactmusic quoted Liev as saying.

On the other hand, Schreiber’s eldest son with Naomi Watts doesn’t hold the same opinion as his father, as he loves the toy and has a huge collection.

“He has a bag of toys, that he calls the turtle bag, that he puts his favourite toys in and it took a tense 15 minutes (before he put it in the bag),” Liev added. (ANI)

Liev, who was holidaying in Australia with lover Naomi Watts, decided to give surfing a try off the coast of Sydney suburb Tamarama.

Though, Liev thought that he could swim out of the riptide, the intensity of the tide proved him wrong, as it almost killed him.

“The stupid thing I did was instead of letting the rip take me and my surfboard out and then swimming back around the top, I said, ‘I can swim out of this…’ I was exhausted. It was like a washing machine. I’ve never experienced a break like it. It was so quick and strong with no room to get out at the end. The break just picked me up and dumped me in the rocks and wouldn’t let me up,” Contactmusic quoted Liev, as telling The Daily Telegraph.

“My leash got tangled around both legs so I couldn’t get my legs out to swim. That’s when I started sucking down water,” Liev added.

“I didn’t move my legs and actually rested underwater and waited until my legs untangled and then floated back up. I got nailed a couple of times. But I didn’t panic and I was able to swim to safety,” he added. (ANI)

The film will be helmed by ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ director Doug Liman. (ANI)

First Heath Ledger scholarship awarded

Ledger’s ex-fiancee Michelle Williams and friends had established the scholarship, which amounted to 7,000 pounds, after his death in 2008.

It was handed over to Ackland at a party for Australian Oscar nominees at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont Hotel on February 20, after he was hand picked out of 150 applicants by Ledger’s pals and colleagues, including actress Rachel Griffiths.

The award was presented by filmmaker Greg Jordan, who directed Ledger in Two Hands.

“We all said ‘No. There is no next Heath Ledger, but there’s plenty of other people’,” he added.

For Ackland, 29, the prize held a special meaning, as Ledger has always been one of his role models.

“The fact that it is in his name means the world. I admired Heath and I admired the work that he chose, the path he created for himself. It shows a lot of integrity on his behalf,” he said.

Australian stars Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts and Hugh Jackman contributed to the bursary, which included flights to Los Angeles and introductions to agents and casting directors. (ANI)
