Zoo music debacle lands organiser in court

A man has told a court a disastrous music festival spiralled him into debt and he will struggle to pay any fine imposed on him.

The managing director of the Live at the Zoo festival held at Monarto Zoo is facing proceedings in Adelaide.

Peter Rowe and his company Avalon Events are being prosecuted for breaches of the liquor licensing laws in light of problems at the event, near Murray Bridge, a year ago.

The licensing court heard there were significant breaches of the liquor act and substantial safety risks.

It heard cars were driven over tents and alcohol was consumed in prohibited areas.

At the time, ambulance officials said at least four people were taken to hospital due to suspected ecstasy overdoses.

A headline band was axed after the crowd surged through a security fence.

Rowe told the court his company was in voluntary administration and he personally had lost more than $700,000.

The judge will rule on a penalty later in the month.

Grant delivers culture boost to region

There is hope that a Federal Government grant provided to the New South Wales Far South Coast’s Four Winds music festival will culturally enrich the region as a whole.

The Government has provided $420 000, which Eden-Monaro MP Mike Kelly says is the largest-ever non-infrastructure grant in the South East.

The Chairwoman of the Four Winds Organisation, Sheena Baughen says the grant shows the capability of the region to attract Federal support.

She says the funding has a flow-on effect, supporting proposals like the development of a Regional Conservatorium.

“Our grant is a small step but a major boost towards saying ‘we are attracting the world’s best musicians, we need a conservatorium here to give young people the chance to build up from the grassroots’,” she said.

Music lovers at Big Chill Fest to bare-all for ‘nude landscape’!

London, Apr 1 (ANI): Music lovers heading to the Big Chill Festival this year are being encouraged to strip off.

While Massive Attack and MIA are to headline the festival, artist Spencer Tunick has been commissioned to create a new living masterpiece during the weekend – and is urging volunteers to take part in a mass disrobing.

On stage, R”n”B star Kelis will join the festival, which will be held from August 5 to 8 against the backdrop of Eastnor Castle Deer Park in Herefordshire.

Tunick’s “nude landscapes” will be his first installation at a European music festival.

Volunteers will be instructed to arrive at a specific time and shed their clothing.

Organisers have said that participants” nudity will be handled with “respect and sensitivity”.

Tunick, whose work has been staged in Dublin, New York, Barcelona and at the Sydney Opera House, enlists ordinary members of the public in his projects, putting them at the heart of his artwork.

“For me to be able to create one of my artworks in such a beautiful landscape is a real privilege. I”ve never carried out an installation at a European music festival before. I”m looking forward to doing a fantastical work, celebrating the body at play and interacting with such a unique setting,” the Mirror quoted him as saying. (ANI)

French teen sleeping on rail tracks survives being crushed by passing train

London, Sep 14 (ANI): A French teenager was so lost sleeping between rail tracks that he did not even realise how close he was to death when a high-speed train passed over him.

According to the police, the driver of the TGV train between Paris and Quimper in Brittany noticed the 19-year-old man lying stretched out on his stomach between the rails when the train approached him close to the western town of Vannes.

However, the train was moving too fast to stop and thus continued for a further 900 yards.

It finally stopped after it passing right over the teenager, reports the Telegraph.

The driver left the train and checked out the teenager only to find out that he was unhurt.

But the man could not be woken and was taken by firemen to hospital in Vannes.

The police is hoping for an explanation about what happened after the young man regains consciousness.

The teenager who is from the area had a ticket in his pocket for a music festival, which finished in the early hours on Sunday. (ANI)

The ‘Fall Out Boy’ bassist was performing with his group at the Leeds music festival in England when the humiliating ‘wardrobe malfunction’ occurred.

In the meantime, one of the production assistants dashed to save the rocker’s blushes.

“Pete was so busy singing he didn’t notice his trousers had slipped down, but thankfully one his roadies stepped in and pulled them up to avoid any further embarrassment,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying. (ANI)

Glastonbury boss to step down in 2011

Washington, June 23 (ANI): Michael Eavis has decided to step down as the boss of Glastonbury music festival in 2011.

A farmer by profession, Eavis launched the acclaimed event his land in South West England in 1970.

He will be handing over his responsibilities to his daughter Emily and his and son-in-law Nick, who has taken a more prominent role in the event’s organisation in recent years.

However, Eavis is adamant he still wants a part in planning the festival.

“I still feel I have an important role to play. Even if I go I’ll worry about the drains, the rubbish, the recycling,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“There will be a gradual process of her and Nick taking it over,” he added.

Eavis, who was named as the U.K.’s second most influential music boss in a recent poll, will preside over this year’s (Jun09) festival, which sees Bruce Springsteen take to the main stage. (ANI)

Lennon’s son furious at Springsteen over Glastonbury headlining

New Delhi, June 20 (ANI): John Lennon’s son Sean thinks Bruce Springsteen is an “outrageous” choice to headline the Glastonbury Festival.

Sean- the son of Beatles legend John and Yoko Ono – is shocked to hear that the ‘Born to Run’ singer has been roped in to perform at the British music festival’s most prestigious timeslot a week on Saturday night, reports The China Daily.

The 33-year-old musician said: “It’s shocking. I have been to Glastonbury a few times, I’ve even played a few, and it just didn’t seem like that was the kind of artist they had headlining. I heard they called him and he didn’t even know what it was.”

However, he’s happy ‘Heart of Gold’ singer Neil Young is due to perform, because – unlike Springsteen – Young has managed to “stay cool”.

He added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “I love Neil Young. I feel like he’s one of the only people who has managed to stay cool the whole time, which is really hard.” (ANI)

Coming soon: Woodstock, the book

New York, June 19 (ANI): Veteran rock deejay Pete Fornatale has penned a book on Woodstock Festival 40 years after the legendary rockfest shook fans all over the world.

Fornatale attempts to segregate fiction from “400,000 versions of the truth” in his Back to the Garden: The Story of Woodstock.

But the disc spinner, however, said a definitive book on the music festival, billed as An Aquarian Exposition, could probably never be inked.

“Woodstock is an elephant. Perhaps even a big pink one, depending on what you were ingesting back then,” the New York Post quoted him as saying.

Thirty-two of the best-known musicians of the day appeared for the festival held from August 15 to August 18 in 1969 in front of nearly half a million concertgoers.

Other than being widely regarded as one of the greatest moments in popular music history, it was listed on Rolling Stone’s 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.

The event has previously been captured in a successful 1970 documentary movie, Woodstock, and Joni Mitchell’s song Woodstock. (ANI)

Lily Allen was banned from singing rude words at Brit radio

London, May 11 (ANI): Lily Allen has revealed that she was banned from singing rude words during a performance at a music festival run by BBC Radio 1.

The pop sensation said that she could not help but giggle as she attempted to be decent while singing ‘Not Fair’ at the recent ‘Radio 1 Big Weekend’.

“I’m so sorry. They told me I’m not allowed to say rude bits and I can’t stop laughing because I think I’m going to slip up,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

The paper said that the 24-year-old left the event bosses biting their nails when she said: “I don’t know what to wear so I think I might just go naked. In fact I think everyone coming to watch should go naked. I want to see the whole crowd naked.”

However, the daughter of actor-musician Keith Allen eventually decided against it at the concert in Swindon. (ANI)

Glasto chief fears festival would be cancelled due to swine flu outbreak

London, May 6 (ANI): Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis has expressed his fear that the famous festival could be cancelled this year due to the swine flu outbreak.

The Brit dairy farmer called a general meeting with worried organisers to discuss the prospect of cancelling the event amid fears of a pandemic.

And planners are concerned, that with the 28 confirmed swine flu cases in the UK, the Government may advise that the festival should not go ahead between June 24 and 28 to prevent the virus spreading.

Bruce Springsteen had been tapped to headline the show, which is UK’s biggest music festival, and all 137,500 tickets have been sold for the Somerset event.

“So many people gathered in one place is a risk and if the Government wanted to pull public events, like they have done in Mexico, we’d be one of the first to go,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“It would be crazy not to put a plan in place. Right now, though, it is still full steam ahead,” the source added.

According to an official Glasto spokesman, the show is still going ahead.

“We are monitoring all developments,” he said.

“At this stage the festival is going ahead and we are continuing to work flat out to make it a success,” he added. (ANI)

Agyness Deyn’s ex wants to get back with her

London, Apr 21 (ANI): English model Agyness Deyn is said to have turned her ex-boyfriend Josh Hubbard green with envy after she openly snogged new love Alex Greenwald at the Coachella Festival.

Hubbard, a guitarist with the band Paddingtons, was hoping to reunite with Deyn even though they had broken up last year, and he was happy to learn that she would be at the Californian music festival.

“He had been planning to come out to the festival with his mates for months,” the Mirror quoted Hubbard’s close pal as saying.

“So when he arrived and heard Agyness was on a plane from New York he got a little strung out.

“He is still totally in love with Agyness. It hurt like hell when they split up,” the friend said.

After their four-year relationship ended, Deyn went out with Strokes’ guitarist Albert Hammond Jr before moving on to her current fella, Phantom Planet singer Alex.

“When Agyness split with Albert, Josh kind of hoped they may bump into each other and the old feelings would come back,” the friend said.

“Agy knows he still has feelings for her and he said he wanted to speak to her and let her know.

“Agy had been making human pyramids with a big bunch of pals between acts but Josh got his hopes up when he saw Agy was on her own with her friends Henry Holland and Remi Nicole.

“He went over and they chatted but it was crowded and really rushed and Agy seemed a little bit distracted.

“And then her new bloke Alex turned up. They went outside on the grass and Agyness started snogging the face off him!

“It was a complete kick in the stomach to Josh – he was devastated.

“He was with her throughout the whole boom in her career. Alex seems to be her rebound guy – someone just to have fun with for now,” the pal added. (ANI)

Fatboy Slim leaves rehab after month-long stint

London, Apr 1 (ANI): British DJ Fatboy Slim has left rehab after a month-long stint cure himself of his alcohol addiction.

Slim, 45, checked himself into the Providence Project clinic in Bournemouth, England, on March 2, reports the Daily Star.

The DJ, whose real name is Norman Cook, looked in the best of health as he left his Sussex home in a car with his wife, British TV presenter Zoe Ball on March 30.

His rehabilitation had forced him to pull out of the Snowbombing music festival in Austria, which kicked off on March 29, and he will not be performing until after June this year in a bid to fully conquer his addictions. (ANI)

Manipur hosts punk music festival

Senapati (Manipur), Mar 30 (ANI): In an effort to promote the talent of youths, Manipur staged the ‘Screamo Punk Festival 2009′ here last week.

The music festival featured bands from Nagaland, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.

The one-day event was jointly hosted by Hill Sound, Senapati, Moli Ariina Mao and M. Lee Music Gallery and sponsored by the Youth and Hope Foundation, Manipur.

The Organisers said the festival was aimed at reviving culture in the insurgency-hit state.

“I am doing music promotion for local youths. The music scene in Manipur is in poor condition because of militant problems. That is why I wish to hold a music festival every year for the youths in Senapati. The ‘Screamo Punk Festival’ is also going to extend to Imphal, Shillong and other parts of the northeast,” said Moli R. Mao, convenor of the organizing committee.

Rappers from Delhi and Kolkata also performed at the festival.

“I really support music festivals. This type of curricular activities or rock show and music will bring development in society,” said Romeo, a spectator.

The event is planned to be held annually, featuring local bands in the entire northeast. By L. C. K. Singh (ANI)

Michael Eavis: Glastonbury Festival will never go pop

London, Mar 26 (ANI): Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has ruled out the possibility of the popular music festival turning into a pop event.

The 73-year-old dairy farmer has declared he’ll never invite a pop act to headline.

“I don’t think we’ll ever go down the pop route for getting a headliner for Glastonbury,” the Daily Star quoted Eavis as saying.

He also denied inviting Madonna to the festival.

“Madonna hasn’t been asked by us,” he added.

Eavis feared the event was doomed after the fuss made about Jay-Z, 39, and slow tickets sales last year.

This year he has roped in Neil Young, 63, Bruce Springsteen, 59, and Blur to headline the festival.

“Getting Springsteen as a headliner is so exciting. I saw him play two-and-a-half hours in Cardiff and that’s what turned me on to the idea of having him,” he said. (ANI)

Woodstock’s 40th anniversary concert in New York City?

New York, Mar 22 (ANI): Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang wants to celebrate 40th anniversary of the famed 1969 music festival with a green concert this summer – possibly in New York City – if he can find some sponsorship.

“It’s free, but it costs a lot of money,” the New York Daily News quoted Lang, as telling Billboard.com.

“Depending on how successful we are in raising that sponsorship [money] will determine when and how we do this event – or if we do this event, frankly,” he added.

Lang wants to bring back acts like The Who and Santana – even the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The 30th anniversary show of Woodstock ended in a fiery riot, but that didn’t discourage Lang.

“When people think [of Woodstock] they don’t think ’99 or ’94. They think [of] the ’69 event,” he said. (ANI)

Heather Schmid targeted by terrorists after performing for Musharraf?

Washington, Mar 19 (ANI): World-renowned classical singer Heather Schmid has revealed that her private performance for Pakistan’s then-President Pervez Musharraf has made her a target for terrorists threats.

Schmid had been in Pakistan to perform in a music festival to raise funds for the country after the devastating earthquakes in 2006, and she became so popular there that she was invited to do a private performance at the Governor’s Mansion.

After the show, photos of her and Musharraf started appearing in a number of publications, and she was deemed the “ambassador of peace” by the Pakistani press.

“People just started associating me with him,” Fox News quoted her as saying.

“And soon after that, an Al Qaeda leader announced that anyone associated with Musharraf was a target,” she said.

But it was only until a few months back that strange things started happening in Schmid’s life, things which prompted her and her management to reach out to the FBI.

“I started to get disturbing phone calls and Facebook requests, my Web site was being hacked in a very slow, clever way. Things like my family photos were being taken and my tour schedule was changed,” she said.

“My Webmaster tracked it back to Pakistan, and it was clear from the coding that this was done not by an amateur, but an organized group.

“I was then invited to receive a ‘Personality of the Year’ award in Pakistan, but the details were sketchy, and my friend was shocked to find an extremist video on YouTube where myself, Condoleezza Rice and President Bush are the Americans in the video considered as ‘Anti-Islamist’,” she stated.

The FBI has taken Schmid’s case as a credible threat, and has filed a report, advising her to track all calls and odd occurrences, to change her Web server, and to hire protection while out in certain public places.

“I feel like it’s my purpose to travel the world and performing in the East is part of my life plan. I’m not going to stop doing what I do,” she said.

“It’s obviously not a good feeling knowing that people are plotting things against you, but I felt like I had such a positive connection with Pakistan, and I don’t want it to be this way,” she added. (ANI)

Partygoers claim Hugh Hefner looked ’10 years older’ at recent bash

Washington, Mar 6 (ANI): Partygoers at a recent bash at the Playboy mansion have claimed that they were shocked to see Hugh Hefner looking as if “he had aged 10 years in the last month.”

The Playboy mogul made a brief appearance at the Annual Kandyland Masquerade Ball at the iconic Mansion on February 28, but those attending the party claim that despite being surrounded by his girls, Hefner looked far from his normally alert and healthy self.

“He looked so old, like he had aged 10 years in the last month and was barely moving,” Fox News quoted a source as saying.

The source also said that the 83-year-old tycoon’s new number one Crystal held his hand, and assisted him as she “slowly shuffled” along.

And, meanwhile, his other lovers (the 19-year-old Shannon twins) marched ahead of the bunny brigade and revelled in the limelight.

Last year, Hefner said: “I have some aches and pains and I have had lower back problems since the ’80s. Too much time in bed rustling around with friends.”

However, many have claimed that the octogenarian multi-millionaire’s recent break ups with ‘Girls Next Door’ stars-Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt-have taken a toll on his health.

“Things aren’t quite the same since Holly and the girls left. Hef loves all the new ones, but I think the transition really took its toll,” said the insider.

However, Hefner’s representatives dismissed reports of any health problems, saying: “Hef is perfectly fine. In the last three weeks, Hef has traveled to Italy to be a featured guest at the Sanremo Music Festival, attended the Playboy Jazz Festival press conference and hosted his usual weekend movie night events. He hasn’t missed a day of work or an hour of partying and he’s better and busier than ever. Party guests are misinformed.” (ANI)
