Wadala police face heat over kidnappings

Mumbai, May 29 — More than 250 locals surrounded Wadala police station on Friday to protest police inaction in the kidnap of two minor girls 20 days ago. Firoz A, one of the girls’ father said 20 days ago, his 14-year-old daughter and her 15-year-old friend went missing from their respective houses. “We lodged a missing complaint at Wadala police station but when the police enquired in the area and found two local boys also missing, they registered a case of kidnapping against the two 22-year-old boys,” said Firoz. “The police investigated and found the four were in Uttar Pradesh. A police team went there to arrest the boys and bring back our girls but returned empty-handed,” he said at the police station, where he was present with the locals. “It’s hard to believe a police team went to UP but couldn’t even get pictures of the boys. I’m afraid that if the police do not arrest the boys soon, they will kill my daughter and her friend, Ruchi Sharma,” he said. “If the children have eloped, the police should at least tell us,” he added. The alleged kidnappers, identified as Mumtaz (22) and Parvez (23), lived in the same area as the girls and worked as daily wage labourers. Vilas Shinde, senior police inspector at Wadala police station, said the couples had eloped and the girls had taken cash and jewellery from their houses, and said police are charging them with kidnapping because they are minors.

Asked about fresh efforts to locate the girls, Shinde said: “We’ve sent messages to police stations in the neighbouring areas of UP. In Mumbai too, we’ve sent wireless messages to all police stations, railway stations and bus stands.”

Benazir wanted retaliatory PAF strikes on Indian nuclear sites in 1990: ex-Pak COAS

Lahore, Aug.31 (ANI): Slain Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had asked the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to be ready for attacking India’s nuclear facilities, when reports surfaced in 1990 that US, Israel and India were planning to strike Pakistan’s nuclear establishments.

In an interview with a private television channel, former Chief of Army Staff Mirza Aslam Beg revealed that Bhutto had directed the PAF to prepare itself for attacking India.

Beg said Bhutto remained ‘rock solid’ amid reports that US, Israel and India were planning to attack Pakistan’s nuclear sites.

“Benazir remained “rock solid” in 1990 amid reports of conspiracy against Pakistan,” The Daily Times quoted Beg, as saying.

Beg also disclosed that the Saudis had given loads of money to Mahmood Haroon to ask politicians to join the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI), which was formed to destabilize Bhutto’s government and ensure that she never returns to power.

Earlier, former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director Malik Mumtaz had disclosed that Al-Qaeda gave millions of rupees to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to destabilise the Benazir Bhutto’s government in 1988.

Mumtaz claimed that ISI had hatched a massive conspiracy involving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former ISI chief General (retired) Asad Durrani, Brigadier (retired) Imtiaz and Major (retired) Amir to overthrow the Bhutto government.

He said Osama bin Laden was behind the conspiracy and had paid millions of dollars to the ISI.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Pervaiz Rashid has rejected Beg’s allegations that ISI had distributed money among several politicians to destabilize the Bhutto government.

“Beg has given a very fake statement on the distribution of money by the ISI among politicians,” Rashid said. (ANI)

Al-Qaeda gave millions to ISI to bribe politicians, claims former FIA chief

Lahore, Aug.28 (ANI): In a startling revelation, a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director Malik Mumtaz has disclosed that Al-Qaeda had given millions of rupees to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to destabilise the Benazir Bhutto’s government in 1988.

Mumtaz claimed that ISI had hatched a massive conspiracy involving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former ISI chief General (retired) Asad Durrani, Brigadier (retired) Imtiaz and Major (retired) Amir to overthrow the Bhutto government.

He said Osama bin Laden was behind the conspiracy and had paid millions of dollars to the ISI, The Daily Times reports.

In an interview with a private television, Mumtaz said one of his close friends had told him that the ISI was in the look out for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) legislators who would change side and join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

When asked whether he was too a part of the conspiracy, Mumtaz said he instead informed the PPP leadership about the plot.

Meanwhile, the PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal has rejected the allegations, saying the party never received any money from the intelligence agency.

Iqbal said that such claims were a part of maligning the PML-N leadership.

Former Director General of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Brigadier (retired) Imtiaz also rejected the allegations.

He said the charges were completely false and it was a handiwork of some ‘mysterious elements’ within the PPP who were trying to destabilize the country. (ANI)

Brit school head wins 400 K pounds over Islam slur

London, Mar.20 (ANI): The head of a British Muslim school, who was forced into early retirement by stress after being branded a racist, has won 407,781 pounds in damages.

Erica Connor boosted test results, had the backing of her staff and ran a happy school, the High Court in London heard, but her life became a nightmare after Paul Martin and Mumtaz Saleem, both Muslims, joined the board of governors and charged her with racism.

Under Martin and Saleem, Islamophobia began at the Monument Primary School in Woking, Surrey.

Deputy Judge John Leighton Williams QC said: “They sought to monopolise meetings with a view to imposing their own agenda, regardless of the interests of the school and anyone who resisted. What was that agenda? It was at the very least to introduce an increasing role for the Muslim religion.”

He said the governing body was “torn apart”, while morale at the school plunged.

Connor, 57, had a breakdown, and because of post traumatic stress disorder, she can never teach again.

The judge backed the mother of one’s claim against Surrey County Council, saying it was negligent in not giving her support.

It also failed to keep the two governors in check, giving in to “demands, complaints, and suggestions”.

Officials were more concerned about the risk of complaints to the Commission for Racial Equality than the head’s health, the judge said.

He added: “She has suffered greatly.”

Up to 85 per cent of the school’s pupils are Muslim and 90 per cent have English as a second language.

The council denied any wrongdoing.

Connor, who lives with her partner in Esher, said: “The accusations attacked the heart of my values.” (ANI)

Pakistan captain Urooj Mumtaz was left hapless by the Kiwi blitzkrieg. She used as many as eight bowlers in the innings. Mumtaz herself was the most expensive bowler as she gave away 20 runs in an over. While Naiila Nazir and Sajjida Shah grabbed two wickets apiece.

Pakistan made a valiant effort to chase, scoring their second highest total of the tournament, but went down by 223 runs.

They were bowled out for 150 in 48.1 overs.

For Pakistan, Nain Abidi scored 52 of 104 balls.

Solidarity with the oppressed people of Pakistan

London: On 12 March 2009 there was a demonstration outside the UN Human Rights Council which was attended by people of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit and Baltistan, Sind, Balochistan, Frontier Province Pakhtoon Khawa and Punjab. The demonstration was organised by Sardar Shaukat Kashmiri and was a big demonstration according to standards of Geneva.

Among those who spoke on this occasion included Senator Sana Ullah Baloch, Munawar Laghari, Col Wajhat Mirza, Nader Mirza, Shaukat Kashmiri, Mumtaz Khan, Nasir Aziz, Abbas Butt, Dr Shabir Choudhry etc.

A summary of Dr Shabir Choudhry’s speech is as follows:

‘Fiends and colleagues, right to assemble and right of expression is a fundamental human right. How unfortunate that in Islamic Republic of Pakistan these rights are curbed by the authorities which claim to be democratic and which claim to respect rule of law’.

‘We are fortunate that we live in Europe where these rights are respected and we can freely assemble to express our views. And today we are here outside the UN Human Rights Commission to show our solidarity with the people of Pakistan who have campaigned for restoration of independent judiciary, accountability and rule of law’.

‘We want to tell people of Pakistan that we stand with them in this hour of need. We support you fully in your struggle for rule of law and fundamental rights. Our sympathies and prayers are with you. You deserve to have an independent judiciary, you deserve to live with dignity and honour, you deserve to have democracy and rule of law; and your struggle will be successful’.

‘But you cannot expect to have democracy who are allies of undemocratic regimes, and those who are product of secret deals with dictators. You cannot expect to have rule of law and accountability from those who are product of corruption and who have a track record of intimidating and undermining the judicial system.’

‘You cannot expect peace and stability from those who have policy of promoting communalism, extremism and hatred. Their policy is to divide and rule. They want to promote extremism in name of jihad which is tearing the Pakistani society apart. On one hand they are part of the war on terrorism and on the other hand they are secretly supporting those who are promoting terrorism’.

‘We want to show our solidarity with all oppressed people of Pakistan, whether they are in Balochistan, Sind, Frontier Province, Punjab or FATA. We also want to speak in support of people of Gilgit and Baltistan and Pakistani Administered Kashmir, where people are also denied of their fundamental human rights’.

‘Pakistan has been ruled by elite who have been advancing policy of communalism, extremism and hatred. This policy of unwise elite has created many problems for us Kashmiris and we continue to suffer due to that policy. This policy not only created many problems for Pakistan’s neighbours but also landed Pakistan in very serious problems which threaten very existence of Pakistan’.

‘Those who expect that the ruling elite of Pakistan could bring peace, stability and prosperity to Pakistan and could help in fight against extremism and hatred are totally wrong, because in view of many experts the ruling elite is part of the problem and not part of solution. They want to perpetuate their rule at all costs. Peace, stability and prosperity in the country are not their priorities. Elimination of extremism and terrorism is not their goal, because they are using these as tools to advance their political and personal agenda’.

‘Their deals and agreements with extremists in Swat and FATA are not based on sincerity. This is to provide these extremists that they can regroup and reorganise themselves to assert their influence and power in other parts of the country. It is believed that in near future these extremist groups will be playing an important role in FATA and Afghanistan’. (ANI)

Recession takes shine off Bihar’s silk industry

Bhagalpur (Bihar), Feb 23 (ANI): The silk industry in Bihar is losing its luster and shine due to a global economic meltdown.

The consequences of drying market are staring at many silk weavers looking for alternative sources of livelihood.

Many factories in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district have now been shut down and weavers have moved to other cities in search of employment. While some are selling vegetables and doing labour works to earn their livelihood.

“Earlier, I used to run around four looms but now due to recession I am now selling vegetables on the road. Things have turned from bad to worse,” said Mumtaz Ali, a former silk weaver.

“The silk material made in Bhagalpur is mostly used in furnishing, which again is very much sought after in America. But now due to the economic slowdown, the export of Bhagalpur silk has also gone down,” said Manoj Aggarwal, an exporter.

Even as the Indian silk industry has been fighting for a foothold in the international markets and fends off China companies, the global economic meltdown seems to be playing spoilsport as the exports have gone down considerably. (ANI)

Anti-Islam UK teacher sues her ‘gutless’ bosses for 100 K pounds

London, Feb. 6 (ANI): Erica Connor, head teacher of a London based school, has claimed 100,000 pounds in damage against education chiefs for not protecting her from Muslim school governors.
Connor claims her bosses did nothing as a group of Muslim governors tried to force her to change the school curriculum. She claimed that she was “harassed” over a demand that pupils be taught more about Allah and Islam, the Daily Star reports.

The mum-of-one said her troubles began in 2003 when four Muslim governors were appointed, including convert Paul Martin and Mumtaz Saleem. They started interfering with the school’s day-to-day activities.
The 57-year-old alleged that they also asked her to link-up school activities with the local mosque, which convinced her to appeal to London’s High Court.
The investigating bosses branded her “unresponsive to the needs of the faith community.” But, Surrey education bosses “turned their back” when her Muslim rivals branded her “racist and Islamophobic”.
“This was racism towards me. I felt that, had I been a Muslim head, things would have been conducted in a different way. I felt that they didn’t have the courage to stand by me in this,” Connor said.

She told Judge John Leighton Williams that she was “horrified” by the conclusion, which she believes made her “a helpless scapegoat”.
Erica, who says she is so depressed that she may never work again, reckons bosses should have done a lot more to protect her and New Monument School. Her lawyers are now fighting for damages. (ANI)
