Sex is Cameron Diaz’s favourite sport!

Cameron Diaz has revealed that sex is her favourite sport and also said that she was always in the mood for sex.

“Sex is the sexiest word in the English language. Just the word is sexy to me. There”s something to it, don”t you think? Sex is my favourite sport,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling the News of the World newspaper.

“What”s the quickest way to get me in the mood? I”m always in the mood,” she added.

The 38-year-old star, who recently split with baseball star Alex Rodriguez, also admitted she is in no rush to get married, and would rather make her ‘own rules’.

“I don”t think we should live our lives in relationships based off old traditions that don”t suit our world any longer. I think a lot of people are married to people that they”re not romantic with anymore,” she said.

“We have to make our own rules. I just didn”t ever marry anybody that I then had to get divorced from. We break up. We move on,” she added.

Top white lie to shun sex: I’m too tired

London, Sept 16 (ANI): The humble headache has had its day as far as excuses to avoid sex are concerned, for now the reigning white lie to snub a romp is ‘I’m too tired’, says a new survey.

“I’ve got a headache” has lost its lustre and fallen to number three in the list behind “I’m not in the mood”.

Other white lies to make the top five included “I’ve got to get up early in the morning” and “I’m pre-occupied with work”.he conclusion was made after studying 4,000 adults.

The not-so-kinky research also revealed that one in five Brits regularly make excuses to avoid having sex.

Seven out of 10 said they were often too exhausted to enjoy sex. And four out of 10 said the recession had played havoc with their sex life, the study found, reports The Telegraph.

A spokesman for www.OnePoll.com, which carried out the study, said: “The humble headache has had its day as far as excuses are concerned.

“Tiredness plays a much bigger part in our reasons not to climb between the sheets these days and enjoy some quality time together.

“And its hardly surprising when we are all working longer hours than ever before and have so many things to worry about.

“Fears over whether will be able to pay our mortgages or even whether we will have a job in a month’s time are bound to affect our bedroom performance.

“It was intriguing to see just how the recession has affected our passion levels too.”

The report also found men are more likely to make excuses than women with 27 per cent admitting they often avoided sex compared to 18 per cent of women.

Top Ten Sex Excuses

1. Too tired

2. I’m not in the mood

3. I’ve got a headache

4. I’ve got to get up in the morning

5. I’m pre-occupied with work

6. I’m angry with you

7. I can hear one of the children

8. You need a shower

9. I’ve got a bad back

10. Too soon in our relationship. (ANI)

New biomarker can bring rapid relief from major depression

Washington, Sept 11 (ANI): Scientists from University of California have identified a biomarker that can help accurately predict whether a particular drug will be effective in treating major depression.

During the study, the researchers measured changes in brain-wave patterns using quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), a non-invasive, computerized measurement that recognizes specific alterations in brain-wave activity.

These changes precede improvement in mood by many weeks and appear to serve as a biomarker that accurately predicts how effective a given medication will be.

The new non-invasive test would help predict within a week whether a particular drug will be effective.

The added benefit of the biomarker test is that it ispainless and fast – about 15 minutes – and only involves the placement of six electrodes around the forehead and on the earlobes.

The researchers recruited a total of 375 people who had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) and prescribed the antidepressant escitalopram, commonly known as Lexapro.

Then they examined a biomarker called the antidepressant treatment response (ATR) index – a specific change in brain-wave patterns.

The study showed that the ATR predicted both response and remission with an accuracy rate of 74 percent, much higher than any other method available.

The researchers also found that they could predict whether subjects were more likely to respond to a different antidepressant, bupropion, also known as Wellbutrin XL.

“Until now, other than waiting, there has been no reliable method for predicting whether a medication would lead to a good response or remission,” said Dr. Andrew Leuchter, professor of psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA and lead author of the study.

“And that wait can be as long as 14 weeks. So these are very exciting findings for the patient suffering from depression,” said Leuchter.

The study results appear in the journal Psychiatry Research. (ANI)

Abandoned by children, inmates of an old-age perform ‘Shraadh’ in Bhopal

Bhopal, Sep.10 (ANI): Abandoned by their own children, many elderly people at an old-age home in Bhopal, performed ‘Shraadh’ for themselves during the ongoing ‘Pitrapaksha’.

As per Hindu tradition, one’s children or family members perform the Shraadh, the ritual of remembering the deceased.

These elderly inmates took the unusual step, as they realised there was no one in their families to perform this ritual.

“They (children) will not do the salvation ritual for us after our death. We are doing it for ourselves. If today they are treating us in this manner, we don’t know what they will do after our death. What can we say?… There is no one to see us. There is no one to listen to our plight… We will die like this here one day,” said Murari Lal Saxena, inmate of Anand Dham old-age-home.

By performing their own ‘shraadh’ rituals, the elderly said they were preparing for their next life.

Parmanad Agrawal, whose family members have died, said in this age and time he couldn’t trust his relatives to do ‘Shraadh’ for him.

“I’m doing my own salvation ritual. So that I don’t suffer in my next life,” said Parmanad Agrawal, an inmate of Anand Dham, the old age home.

Meanwhile, the in-charge of the old-age home Madhuri Mishra said that the inmates did the rituals out of a sense of compulsion.

“All elderly members were worried and in a sad mood. They said since their children have left them in an old age home then why not do their own post-death ritual even if they were still alive. This will leave no burden on their sons after their death. The elderly performed the rituals in the early morning,” said Madhuri Mishra, In-charge, Anand Dham Old-Age-Home.

Hindus believe in reincarnation, or in the cycle of birth. They believe that the body changes with every birth but the soul remains the same.

According to the Hindu philosophy, this birth and death cycle can be broken and the soul can be liberated by performing “Pind Daan” (rituals for dead).

During ‘Pitrapaksha’, children perform the ceremony and pray that the souls of their ancestors should rest in peace. By Ram Chand Sahu(ANI)

“He heard that with the last three months of a pregnancy you have really extreme mood swings so he was joking, ‘Oh, you’re not going to believe the mood swings!’” she said.

But it is not only her partner who has been getting the sharp end of her tongue, her family, including sisters Kim and Khloe and mother Kris, have also been suffering.

“If I’m just trying to pick a fight with someone and if I’m around Scott or my mom, then they’ll probably get it worst,” she told People magazine.

475 MJ fans attempt world record dancing together to ‘Thriller’ in Leicester

London, August 30 (ANI): A group of Michael Jackson fans in Leicester attempted a world record for the most number of people dancing to the singer’s ‘Thriller’ in one place on his 51st birthday.

Some 475 people dressed as zombies packed into Orton Square participate in the event.

The current record is held by 242 dancers, who performed in Virginia in April this year.

“We wanted to celebrate his life and show people what an inspiration he is,” Sky News quoted Anand Bhatt, 29, the organiser of the attempt, as saying.

The mass dance was planned in April, two months before Michael Jackson died on June 25.

“His death just made us more determined to do this properly. With it being his birthday, it’s a fitting tribute,” said a woman participant.

Her sister added: “The mood has been vibrant throughout. I think it’s nicer today to do something positive, rather that dwelling on the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Adam, 10, said: “Michael Jackson’s my hero. I wish I could dance like him.”

While most dancers learnt the routine during free lessons at dance studios around Leicester, others practised the moves using tutorial videos posted online.

Although the even ran smoothly, its organisers are still waiting an official declaration from a Guinness World Record representative that the new record has been made. (ANI)

Kids more susceptible to headaches, migraine in new school year

Washington, Aug 30 (ANI): A new study has revealed that children and teens become more susceptible to the pain and discomfort of headaches and migraines as the new school year begins.

More than a third of children suffer from recurrent headaches – headaches that occur more than once a month. Most are tension headaches, which are less severe and do not occur with nausea or vomiting.

“Try to get your kids back into a routine schedule at least two weeks before school starts,” said Dr Ann Pakalnis, neurologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

“Begin enforcing earlier bedtimes, and make sure children are well-rested before beginning a new school year,” the expert added.

In the new study, researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital found that sleep and emotional disorders were common in adolescents with migraines.

Sleep disorders and mild, chronic depression became more common as headaches became more frequent.

In addition those who regularly consumed caffeine also reported more depression and were poorer sleepers.

“Our study indicates that patients with migraines should be monitored for sleep and emotional disorders,” said Pakalnis.

“These findings suggest that factors such as frequent migraines may play a role in the occurrence of these disorders.

“Also, minimizing caffeine consumption may benefit sleep and mood in headache patients and decrease susceptibility to migraine attacks,” she added.

In addition to making sure kids get plenty of sleep and minimize caffeine intake, parents should ensure their children are eating balanced meals and snacks regularly.

Also, limit their caffeine intake and monitor to check that they are getting the proper amount of fluids.

Over-the-counter medicines can provide relief but are sometimes difficult for children to swallow or digest, particularly if they have a migraine accompanied by nausea. Newer therapies such as triptans, which work on the brain’s serotonin system, are very specific for migraine treatment.

The study is published in journal Headache. (ANI)

Surreal, sex-obsessed world of not so “big” Russell Brand revealed

London, Aug 29 (ANI): A model has revealed that British comedian Russell Brand lures women by posting Tweets and has a pretty adventurous sex life.

The television presenter apparently loves threesome and offered Brooke Adams free tickets for MTV Music awards to sleep with her via Twitter.

Some of his posts inviting her to townhouse in Hampstead, north London read: “Where do you live? Near London? And can you bring a friend?”

While another went: “Confirm your friend, darling, as I am in the mood for adventure,” reports the Sun.

Brooke narrated the events leading to the sex act with the comedian.

She said: “I got a cab to his house and the security guard opened the gates and let me in.

“Russell poked his head round the door – and when he opened it I realised he was totally naked.

“He took me through to the kitchen and offered me a drink – although he has no alcohol in the house.

“Then he asked me to perform a sex act on him – I’d had a few to drink and had always fancied him, so I did it.

“He was very complimentary, even though he was eating a plum at the time!”

However, Brand had another girl in his house at the same time and wanted to have threesome.

She added: “He took me up to his room and there was another girl – a blonde girl – already there sitting on the bed.

“I had no idea another girl would be there – I was quite surprised.

“But I think she was more shocked than me – she didn’t seem happy about it at all. He asked us if we would have a threesome and although I was up for it, she refused.

“He declared we were not allowed to leave until he had had been satisfied at least three times, so he just took it in turns with us. While he was with her, I just sat on the end of the bed, waiting.

“He was very good in bed – not as “big” as I was expecting but he still knew exactly what to do and had a lot of stamina.

“Afterwards I just got a cab home and he said he would be in touch.”

Brooke says that she spent a similar night with Russell one more time. (ANI)

Raje to hold BJP Legislature Party meeting in Jaipur

Jaipur, Aug 26 (ANI): Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, will hold a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party here on Wednesday, to chalk out strategy for the upcoming State Assembly session.

According to sources, the issue of electing a new Leader of Opposition as per the direction of party’s high command is not likely to figure in the meeting.

Raje, who has been asked by the BJP central leadership to resign from the leadership of the party’s legislature wing is, appears to be in no mood to quit.

She returned to Jaipur on Tuesday evening from Delhi after holding meetings with party chief Rajnath Singh and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani.

Freddie out for dinner with missus and family after Ashes victory

London, Aug.24 (ANI): England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who is to go under the knife on Tuesday, will take his wife Rachael, parents and kids out for dinner, to celebrate the return of the Ashes with the 197-run victory over Australia at The Oval.

“I will take the missus out for dinner and spend the day with my family. But I’ll be ‘nil by mouth’ after midnight on Monday because of the operation,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Freddie hurled and hugged his son Corey and sister Holly, five, after the win, while Rachael brought one-year-old son Rocky down from the stands.

Freddie’s emotional dad Colin, 57, joined the wild celebrations, shedding tears of joy as he enjoyed the magical moment. The star’s proud mum Susan also came over to give him a hug.

Fred, who will have an operation to fix a knee injury tomorrow, said: “This is a special moment. I was nearly in tears when I saw my Mum up there. It’s like a dream, quite surreal at the moment. I don’t know what to do with myself.”

The Lancashire hero admitted he would not be repeating the boozy antics which saw him in a near-daze as he celebrated England’s last Ashes triumph in 2005.

The party mood spread nationwide last night among thrilled fans who’d seen England thump fierce rivals Australia to win the fifth and deciding Test by 197 runs.

The resounding victory ensured they clinched the summer series 2-1 and reclaimed the coveted Ashes urn they lost Down Under in 2006.

Captain Andrew Strauss said: “The guys have done amazingly. When we were bad we were very bad, and when we were good, we managed to be good enough.”

The squad headed straight from the pitch to the players’ lounge for a post-match party.

A security guard revealed two more crates of booze had to be sent in early in the evening after the stars nearly drank the bar dry.

The England squad left the Oval in a convoy of taxis just after 11 p.m. to continue their celebrations at their East London hotel.

Fans partied in pubs around the ground – many draped in England flags. England and Aussie supporters drank side by side. Downing Street also saluted the squad last night.

A spokesman said: “The Prime Minister will be writing to congratulate them on their exhilarating victory.”

London Mayor Boris Johnson, called England’s win an “incredible triumph”.

Even gutted Australians praised England in defeat. Tim Hussey, 28, from Melbourne, said: “It was an epic series. And I’m pleased Freddie went out with a bang.” (ANI)

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer accused of plagiarism

London, Aug 21 (ANI): Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has been accused of plagiarism by an American woman.

Jordan Scott has alleged that the 2008 novel Breaking Dawn has a “striking and substantial similarity” to her 2006 fantasy The Nocturne.

She has now sent a cease and desist letter to the publishers of the fourth book in the hit Twilight series.

Scott has also filed a lawsuit to stop the sale of the novel and seek damages, reports the Daily Express.

According to TMZ.com, Scott notes in legal document that the two texts “show striking, articulable and substantial similarities in the… plot lines, themes, dialogue, mood, setting, pace, characters, sequence of events (and) ideas.”

Another argument is that the new book is a “significant literary departure from (Meyer’s) early books” and appears to be “written by a teenager” – just as Jordan’s novel does, as she started writing it when she was just 15.

However, Meyer insists that the charges are “completely without merit.”

This is not just the first time that Meyer has been accused of plagiarism.

Her former college roommate Heidi Stanton had filed a lawsuit earlier this year claiming that the hit series was based on a short story she wrote while both of them studied at Brigham Young University, Utah. (ANI)

Modi, Advani, Jaitely held responsible for BJP poll debacle: Internal report

New Delhi, Aug.20 (ANI): An internal report of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is being discussed at the party’s Chintan Baithak in Shimla, has reportedly blamed senior party leader L.K.Advani, GUjarat Chief MInister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the party’s chief election manager Arun Jaitely, besides other top leaders for the BJP’s debacle in this year’s general elections.

According to the Times Now channel, there was a perceived lack of unity among the party leadership and the BJP squarely failed to advertise its agenda among the general public.

The report also says the projection of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate by certain members of the party and the personal attack on the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh (which did not go down well with the people), were key factors in contributing to the BJP’s electoral loss.

According to Times Now, the other factors responsible were (1) The highlinghting of the Varun Gandhi issue, which pushed aside the other main issues; (2) The party failed to assess the public mood in Haryana and conceded a virtual walover to the Congress; (3) Elections were lost in Delhi even before campaigning began; (4) the BJP failed to corner the Congress on 26/11 and (5)Allowing the Congress and the media to corner the BJP on the Kandahar hijack issue.

According to the channel, the internal report apparently targets issues and not individuals. (ANI)

Aliens in no mood to response to SETI right now

London, August 19 (ANI): The SETI (Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence) telescope has produced its first scientific results, but unfortunately it’s still waiting for a response from the aliens.

The project, called the Allen Telescope Array (ATA) after benefactor and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, went live in 2007.

It was designed to scan for broadcasts from alien civilizations with more consistency and a wider field of view than any previous effort.

Run jointly by the SETI Institute and the University of California, Berkeley, from a site in northern California, the ATA is ultimately intended to comprise 350 dishes.

But, even with its current complement of 42, it has an impressively wide field of view. It uses relatively small, 6-metre dishes that together can take in five square degrees of sky at a time – a box as wide as 10 full moons.

“At any one moment, you look into a very large piece of the sky,” said Jill Tarter, director of the SETI Institute. “At 350 (telescopes), the ATA just blows any other survey telescope out of the water. Even at 42, it’s interesting,” she told New Scientist.

According to Joeri van Leeuwen, an ATA team member who presented the project’s first results at a conference in the Netherlands in June, “You can see entire galaxies within one shot.”

One question the ATA aims to answer is a mystery of missing gas.

Star-forming regions don’t seem to have enough molecular gas to keep up the star-formation rates we observe.

Some researchers think atomic hydrogen might make up the difference.

ATA team members have searched for it in four groups of galaxies so far, but have not yet found any new intergalactic gas, deepening the mystery.

“This paper was our first science paper, so we’ve answered some questions, but we’re finding new questions again. This paper really shows that our setup is working, we have all the algorithms working, and we could easily upgrade to a more powerful system still,” van Leeuwen said.

Such surveys do not distract from the search for aliens, which – if they exist and are attempting to communicate – may send out broadcasts at wavelengths not commonly emitted by astrophysical objects. (ANI)

Lack of sunlight can cause ‘brain drain’ in depressed people

Washington, July 28 (ANI): Depressed people are less able to think clearly when there’s a short-term lack of sunlight, a new study has found.

Writing in BioMed Central’s open access journal Environmental Health, researchers used weather data from NASA satellites to measure sunlight exposure across the United States and linked this information to the prevalence of cognitive impairment in depressed people.

The team of US researchers, which was led by Shia Kent, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, used cross-sectional data from 14,474 people in the NIH-NINDS-funded REGARDS study, a longitudinal study investigating stroke incidence and risk factors, to study associations between depression, cognitive function and sunlight.

He said, “We found that among participants with depression, low exposure to sunlight was associated with a significantly higher predicted probability of cognitive impairment. This relationship remained significant after adjustment for season.

“This new finding that weather may not only affect mood, but also cognition, has significant implications for the treatment of depression, particularly seasonal affective disorder”.

Kent and his colleagues speculate that the physiological mechanisms that give rise to seasonal depression may also be involved in sunlight’s effect on cognitive function in the context of depressive symptoms.

Cognitive function was assessed by measurement of short-term recall and temporal orientation. As well as regulating the hormones serotonin and melatonin, light has been shown to also affect brain blood flow, which has in turn been linked with cognitive functions.

The researchers write, “Discovering the environment’s impact on cognitive functioning within the context of seasonal disorders may lead not only to better understanding of the disorders, but also to the development of targeted interventions to enhance everyday functioning and quality of life.” (ANI)

It’s official: weight loss improves depressed people’s mood

Washington, July 28 (ANI): In a new study, researchers have shown that a weight loss program not only counteracts depressed mood but also reduces risk factors for heart disease and stroke in obese patients.

They found that after a 6-month behavioral weight loss program, depressed patients not only lost 8 percent of their initial weight but also reported significant improvements in their symptoms of depression, as well as reductions in triglycerides, which are a risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

“This research is novel because clinically depressed individuals are not usually included in weight loss trials due to concerns that weight loss could worsen their depression,” said Dr. Lucy Faulconbridge, lead author of the study.

“These concerns, however, are not based on empirical evidence, and the practice of excluding depressed individuals from clinical weight loss trials means that we are learning nothing about this high-risk population,” Faulconbridge added.

The new findings suggest that depressed, obese individuals can indeed lose clinically significant amounts of weight, and that weight loss can actually reduce symptoms of depression.

Faulconbridge and colleagues recruited 51 depressed and non-depressed subjects into the study to follow a supervised weight loss program that included lifestyle modification and meal replacements.

Both depressed and non-depressed subjects lost significant amounts of weight, with depressed individuals losing 8 percent of their initial body weight, compared with 11 percent loss by non-depressed individuals.

After 6 months on the weight loss program, depressed subjects also showed significant improvement of their depressive symptoms, based on a questionnaire.

Additional significant improvements in glucose, insulin and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol were observed in both depressed and non-depressed subjects, and depressed individuals showed reduced levels of triglycerides in the blood, which have been linked to risk of heart disease and stroke.

“Depression and obesity are independently associated with increased risk of heart disease and stroke, and so reductions in both body weight and symptoms of depression are likely to improve long-term health outcomes,” said Faulconbridge.

The study is to be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior (SSIB). (ANI)

Jackson’s daughter writes letters to him everyday

Washington, July 13 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s sister La Toya has revealed that the legend’s eleven-year-old daughter, Paris, has been writing letters to him everyday after his death.

“She wears Michael T-shirts every day and the walls of her room are covered with posters and pictures of her daddy. She still writes him letters every day, sweet lovely letters about how much she loves him. Her letters are brilliant. When you read them you cry,” Contactmusic quoted La Toya as saying.

The 53-year-old sibling of Jackson also added that Paris bought a ‘mood’ chain to place in her father’s coffin before he was buried.

The necklace, which had a metal heart on it that changes colour when it touches someone’s skin, divides into two.

And Paris kept half of it and said she will wear it “forever”.

La Toya said: “The heart is in two pieces. Paris told me, ‘I want one half to go to daddy and I will wear the other half forever’. She carefully wrapped it around his wrist. She said, ‘Daddy, this is for you’… I put one of his sequined gloves in there. And a pair of his favourite sunglasses.” (ANI)

Jolie gets back spring in her step following flying lessons

Washington, July 11 (ANI): ‘Tomb Raider’ star Angelina Jolie has taken time off from her busy schedule to continue with her flying lessons.

The mum-of-six had bought her own plane for 1.5 million pounds in 2005, after she was granted a pilot’s licence.

But ever since giving birth to three children, and adopting one more, she was forced to put the lessons on hold.

She has, however, started taking lessons once again, and was recently seen jumping into the cockpit of her Cirrus SR-22 at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California.

“She seemed like she was in a good mood,” Us magazine quoted a witness as saying.

“When she got off the plane, she hopped off. She seemed pretty energetic. She had a spring in her step,” the witness added. (ANI)

Peter Andre ‘uses Jordan look-alike in new video’

London, July 09 (ANI): Peter Andre seems to be in no mood to be soft with his estranged wife Katie Price a.k.a Jordan. He has reportedly used a look-alike of the glamour model in his new video.

The singer was seen shooting for video of the single Behind Closed Doors with three models that included the main model wearing tiny hotpants and a bra and lying on a car bonnet, similar to the scenes from Kate and Peter’s reality show.

However, Andre’s manager insisted that the video did not mock the British model.

“We deliberately went for someone without big boobs and chose someone with red hair so he wouldn’t be accused of this,” the Daily Star quoted the manager as saying.

Andre has also revealed that he is not currently ready to be involved in a relationship with someone new.

He wrote on social network sit Twitter: “No plans to do a kiss-and-tell book. That’s not what I’m about. Not interested in anyone. Once again, the kids and work is all I care about now.” (ANI)
