Gwyneth ‘wants to create an empire’

Washington, Aug 29 (ANI): Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is considering launching her own line of lifestyle brands, according to sources.

The mom-of-two apparently wants to set an example for women and prove that it is possible to juggle motherhood with business.

“She has become a power multi-tasker, so she’ll take meetings while she’s sitting around her movie sets. Gwyneth wants to create an empire, but her first priority is always to her family,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling FOX411 blog.

The insider said: “She is finding ways to merge the two so that other women and mothers will be able to do the same.”

The ‘Emma’ star is reportedly modelling herself on US entrepreneur Martha Stewart.

In fact, her singer husband Chris Martin seems to refer to her as Martha, who was a successful TV host, author and magazine publisher, until she was sentenced to five months in prison for certain charges.

A source said: “Chris has even dubbed her meetings about her new direction as her ‘Martha Stewart meetings’. Her plan is to stay visible in the occasional film, but to create products for real women.

“She is working on new products for her own beauty line under Estee Lauder and looking at different products for moms at home that she can tie to her website, GOOP.” (ANI)

Smoking mums-to-be putting future generations at increased health risk

Washington, Aug 25 (ANI): Mums-to-be who smoke are not only putting their unborn child at increased health risk but future generations also, according to a new study.

Researchers at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) has found that the life-long effects of maternal smoking during pregnancy may occur through specific changes in DNA patterns.

They showed that children exposed in the womb to maternal smoking had differences in DNA methylation, an epigenetic mechanism in which small chemical compounds are added to DNA.

“This study provides some of the first evidence that in utero environmental exposures such as tobacco smoke may be associated with epigenetic changes,” said one of the lead authors Carrie Breton, Sc.D., assistant professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

“This could open up a new way for researchers to investigate biological mechanisms that might explain known health effects associated with maternal smoking,” she added.

Prenatal exposure to smoke is associated with a number of health problems, including childhood asthma, cardiovascular disease, and lower pulmonary function later in life.

“Moms should not be smoking during pregnancy,” said Linda Birnbaum, Ph.D., the director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a component of the National Institutes of Health that helped fund the USC study.

“Maternal smoking during pregnancy is not only detrimental to the health of the mom and the newborn child, but research such as this suggests that it may impact the child into adulthood and possibly even future generations as well,” she added.

The study appears in the September issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. (ANI)

Renee Zellweger compares motherhood to “slavery”

London, Aug 22 (ANI): Actress Renee Zellweger is likely to have second thoughts on starting a family and having kids after a nightmarish babysitting session with her brother’s kids.

The 40-year-old single beauty said an evening with her nephew and niece drained her out completely.

The Daily Star quoted her as saying: “My brother has two children now, so I’ve been playing aunt Renee. They’re two and four. It’s chaos. Moms out there, kudos to you. The cool thing about being an aunt is like, I can leave. No offence to my big brother Drew, but that is slavery. I dare you to take a shower. You can’t do anything unless they let you. It’s a dictatorship. They’re little dictators in their crib.”

Now, Zellweger is unsure if she wants to be a full-time mum.

“Every now and then I’ll step up and say, ‘You know what, everybody sleep in, because you guys need some sleep and aunt Renee is going to take charge. I’ve got it, I’ve got it.’ I so idn’t have it,” she adds. (ANI)

Fergie vows to clean up her ‘filthy’ language during shows

Washington, July 14 (ANI): Black Eyed Peas singer Stacy Ann Ferguson, aka Fergie, has vowed to clean up her “filthy” language during the band’s stage shows.

Fergie, 34, who had embraced her sexual side during her solo career, and turned stage shows into raunchy extravaganzas, revealed that she would like to be a better role model for young girls.

She insists the Boom Boom Pow hitmakers are a family band, and has vowed to keep performances with them child-friendly.

“I wasn’t trying to be a role model with (debut solo album) The Dutchess…,” Contactmusic quoted her as having told Marie Claire magazine.

“Seeing little girls in the audience with their moms. (It) made me think about what I do onstage a little bit more. I had to watch my mouth, because it can be filthy,” she added. (ANI)

It’s official: Moms-in-law are chief cause of divorces in India

Kuala Lumpur, May 27 (ANI): A new study has confirmed what every married person always believed – mothers-in-law are the number one reason why Indian couples get divorced.

According to data in the Malaysia Community and Family Study 2004 by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), “meddlesome in-laws” are the chief cause of divorces, especially in the Indian community.

It is also among the top three factors for divorce among the Malays and Chinese, the other two factors being are incompatibility and infidelity, reports The Star Online.

“Interference by in-laws is the main reason for Indians to divorce. It is the top-ranked reason at 30 percent,” said LPPKN director-general Datuk Aminah Abdul Rahman when presenting a paper on Malaysia’s family profile and its effects at Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia yesterday.

“Among Malays, the second most common reason is infidelity and refusal to put up with polygamy,” she said.

“Among the Indians, infidelity is the second highest ranked reason for divorce at 25 percent,” she added.

The Chinese, however, considered infidelity as the least crucial reason for a divorce.

“Another overall reason which ranked high among the three races at 11.5 percent is ‘not being responsible’,” she said.

The study surprisingly showed that divorce is more likely to happen to those under 25 and above 40. (ANI)

Levi Johnston says Sarah Palin knew he, Bristol were having sex

Washington, Apr 4 (ANI): Bristol Palin’s former fiancé and babydaddy Levi Johnston has revealed that Sarah Palin knew he and her daughter were having sex when they lived under her roof.

In a show airing April 6, Johnston tells Tyra Banks: “I’m pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart.”

While on the show, Levi talked about his sex life on national television, reports People.

However, the show hasn’t been received well by the Palin household.

After taking on The Tyra Banks Show, Johnston was hit with a blistering response from the Alaska Governor.

“Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show. We’re disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship,” says the statement from the Palin family rep.

“Bristol’s focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence,” the statement continues.
It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well being of the child.

“Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions,” the statement concluded.

Levi and Bristol, who were high school sweethearts, planned to wed after graduating – but ended up splitting earlier this year. At the time, Johnston told Good Morning America that he needed to mature before getting married. (ANI)

Madonna’s second adoption infuriates Oz mums

Melbourne, Apr 2 (ANI): Queen of pop Madonna’s second adoption from Africa has infuriated Australian mums, who say that it would have taken them six years to do the same.

Aussie moms, who have adopted children from Africa, were frustrated that Madge was able to adopt new daughter, Mercy, 4, in Malawi on April 1, just two years after she adopted David Banda.

For Carmel and Jeff Stormer of Newcastle, it had taken them more than four years to adopt brothers Kidane and Yohi, now 10 and 12, from Ethiopia, and had to pay 20,000 dollars.

“It’s frustrating. It’s almost like she can buy children,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Carmel Stormer as saying. (ANI)
