Obama’s half-brother refused UK visa: reports

LONDON (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama’s half-brother has been denied a visa to come back to Britain after he earlier gave a false name to police when accused of an attempted sexual assault, British media reported on Sunday.

A database showed that British police arrested Samson Obama, who lives in Kenya, last November after he allegedly tried to sexually assault a young girl, the News of the World said.

Obama gave officers a false identity at the time of his arrest, claiming to be Henry Aloo, the report said. He was fingerprinted but not charged and left Britain.

He tried to enter Britain again to visit relatives while on his way to President Obama’s inauguration in January but immigration officials barred him, the News of the World said.

His details were stored on a new government database of fingerprints and biometric details and this turned up a match when immigration officials checked it in January. The White House was informed, according to the British newspaper.

President Obama was born in Hawaii to a white American mother and a Kenyan father. He has relatives living in Kenya.

The White House had no comment on the reports. However, a White House official said the president had not spoken with Samson in 20 years.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Samson was granted a visa by the U.S. consulate in Nairobi to attend the inauguration. The president, however, did not see him while he was in Washington.

The News of the World said Samson Obama, who manages a mobile phone shop near Nairobi, was believed to have taken a connecting flight to the United States in January.

The Sunday Mirror newspaper gave a slightly different account of the story, saying Samson Obama had been allowed to stop over in Britain while on his way to and from the inauguration and was only later refused a British visa.

A Home Office spokeswoman said the ministry did not comment on specific immigration cases.

The UK Border Agency, responsible for immigration issues, said: “We will oppose the entry of individuals to the UK where we believe their presence is not conducive to the public good.”

“The UK’s border controls are among the toughest in the world. All visa applicants are fingerprinted and checked against watchlists. Using this hi-tech system we have detected more than 5,600 attempts to use false identities since December 2007,” it said in a statement.

Barack Obama’s half-brother was denied entry to Britain

London, April 12 (IANS) Samson Obama, a half-brother of US President Barack Obama, was denied entry into Britain because he had been accused of sexual assault on a previous visit, a newspaper reported.

Samson Obama was stopped by immigration officers when he tried to enter Britain at East Midlands Airport en route from Kenya to his half-brother’s presidential inauguration ceremony in January.

Using biometric tests, immigration officers discovered that he was linked to a serious crime in Britain last November, according to the News of the World.

At the time Samson, who runs a mobile phone shop outside Nairobi, was arrested by police in Berkshire county for an alleged attempted sexual assault on a group of teenage girls.

Although he was not charged, his details were stored on the British home ministry’s biometric database.

The White House was informed about Samson Obama, one of President Obama’s 11 half brothers and sisters by his father, Barack Obama Senior, who had children by four women.

Samson Obama’s mother Kezia, 67, lives in the town of Bracknell, Berkshire, in southeast England.

A Home Office source told the newspaper: ‘This was obviously an extremely sensitive issue when it was flashed up by the database.

‘But the system is designed to flag up people who have come to the attention of the police in the UK and are then trying to return.’

He was refused a visa and flew on to the United States on a connecting flight.

Reports: Obama’s half-brother refused entry into Britain

London – Britain refused an entry visa for US President Barack Obama’s half-brother, Samson Obama, who was implicated in alleged sexual assault in Britain and a false document attached to his statement, British media reported Sunday. Samson, a Kenyan, was stopped and turned back by immigration officials at the East Midlands Airport in January while en route to Washington for Barack Obama’s inauguration, the Press Association reported.

The news agency cited a Home Office spokesman as confirming that the visa was refused after immigration officers noticed a falsified document included in Samson Obama’s visa application.

Further inquiries then showed he had been arrested by police in Berkshire after an alleged sex attack on a girl around the time of his last stay in Britain last November but not charged, according to the News of the World reported.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested the ex-boss of a 22-year-old woman working in the aviation industry for brutally attacking her with a knife on Sahar Road last week. According to the police, the accused stabbed the victim after she turned down his marriage proposal.

The accused identified as Vijay Prakashlal Chavan, a resident of PNT Colony in Andheri (East), is an assistant production manager with a production house and owns a mobile phone shop. He was arrested by the unit 9 of the Crime Branch from his friend’s house in Matunga Labour Camp at 10:30 am on Wedensday.

According to the police, at 8:45 p.m on March 25, when Preeti Shekhar Anchal (22), who is a traffic assistant with the Universal Aviation Private Ltd at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, was leaving for home after the work, Chavan accosted her.

“Anchal used to work for Chavan at his mobile phone office for about six months, during which he claims he got to know her well. He is a married man, who has left his wife. Chavan fell in love with Anchal and on the day of the attack, he asked her to marry him. The victim told him that she didn’t want to see him again, and asked him not to talk to her anymore. Enraged at this, Chavan took out a knife and slit her throat before stabbing her on the stomach,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria.

Anchal was rushed to the Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri (East). She was in the Intensive Care Unit from March 25 to 30. “We were on the lookout for Chavan, and had even sent a team to Pune in search of him. Acting on a tip-off, unit 9 of the Crime Branch arrested him from a friend’s house where he had been hiding for the past few days. We will be handing him over to the MIDC police for further investigation,” said Maria.
