Beckham opens door for Premier League return

London, Sep.8 (ANI): England football star David Beckham will win his 114th England cap tomorrow night if introduced during the World Cup qualifier with Croatia at Wembley, but is looking forward to his short sting with A C Milan and is also open to a Premier League offer to remain at the forefront of Fabio Capello’s plans for South Africa 2010.

“I have got plans. I will finish the MLS season. After that, everybody knows that I’ll be coming back to play somewhere. LA Galaxy know that. If it upsets a few people, I can’t do anything about it,” The Independent quoted Beckham, as saying.

“Milan have made me aware that they want me to go back there and I’m more than happy with that. But I have also had another three or four offers, so when the time is right, I will decide,” he added.

The prospect of Beckham being back in the Premier League, even if he will have turned 35 by that point, is an appealing one, especially as for all his platitudes for LA Galaxy, a section of the club’s support have turned against him.

By then he could have become the first England player to have appeared at four World Cup finals. (ANI)

There has been no shortage of tributes to Michael Jackson in the past two weeks, from mixtape tracks to concert nods. But perhaps the strangest tributes came from the world of sports.

Yesterday, basketball forward (and rapper/music mogul) Ron Artest signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers (perhaps he can be the new Method Man). He’ll join the defending champions for five years at $33 million, but the biggest headline-grabber was that Artest said he would wear jersey number 37 as a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Ron Artest has decided to wear No. 37 with the Lakers in honor of Michael Jackson.

Artest,  worn five different numbers in his NBA career, wore No. 96 with the Rockets last season.

The forward chose No. 37 to honor Jackson’s “Thriller” album, which topped the national sales chart for 37 weeks after its release in 1982.

But the best tribute yet came professional MLS soccer player Kei Kamara, who celebrated scoring a goal by donning one sparkly glove and doing a Jackson dance. The Jackson mojo seemed to work best for Kamara — his Houston Dynamo defeated the Kansas City Wizards 1-0.

Becks should brace himself for hostile MLS return

London, July 1 (ANI): David Beckham should brace himself for a hostile reaction when he returns to action in Major League Soccer this month, the top man in the American game has warned.

Sunil Gulati, the president of the US Soccer Federation, told The Independent that some negative response was “inevitable” after Beckham missed the start of the season to play at AC Milan.

Beckham is due to make his return for the Los Angeles Galaxy at the New York Red Bulls on July 16, but his ‘timeshare’ deal with Milan has upset some fans.

Gulati told Bloomberg: “I’m sure there will be some negative reaction from some fans. That’s inevitable, but in the end he’s a good player, a soccer icon and I think he’ll help his team and the league. But are there going to be some people that are upset? Sure.”

Under the ‘timeshare’ agreement, Beckham will return to the Galaxy from July to October and then be able to rejoin AC Milan for the rest of next season. (ANI)

Beckham will be booed on MLS return

Los Angeles, Mar.11 (ANI): The man who signed David Beckham to LA Galaxy has said the England midfielder can expect a rude welcome when he returns to the MLS.

Former Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas has predicted Beckham will be booed by fans angry at his decision to extend his stay at AC Milan.

“He’ll get booed and it’s of his own making,” Lalas told BBC Sport.

“If he comes back this summer, as has been reported, I’m sure he’ll do everything he can to help the team on the field.

“But I’m also sure there is something to be said for having players on your team who want to be there. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.”

Beckham secured a deal last week that will see him share his time between AC Milan and LA Galaxy. The England midfielder originally moved to Italy on a short term loan deal but made it clear he wished to extend his time there, saying his experience with the Rosseneri was ‘a dream’.

It is understood that Beckham is part financing the deal. (ANI)

L A Galaxy to block Beckham plans to play England friendlies

Los Angeles (US), Mar.10 (ANI): England mid-fielder David Beckham has been told to forget playing any friendlies for his country by L A Galaxy.

The club is already paying the price for their timeshare deal with A C Milan, which sees Becks return in July for 13 of the 30-game MLS season.ccording to The Sun, they are anxious to keep the England ace for every match possible, which means forbidding any extra travel back to Europe in the summer.alaxy boss Bruce Arena will speak with the FA to ensure Becks is left out of friendlies against Holland on August 12 and Slovenia on September 5.

He warned: “I’ll ask for David not be called up. It’s not necessary for him to be there for a friendly and I’ll contact the FA.

“David’s happy to come back – and his addition will be positive for us.” (ANI)

LA Galaxy don’t want Beckham

London, Mar.8 (ANI): England winger David Beckham will not return to L A Galaxy despite having struck a deal with them and A C Milan.
News of The World quoted sources close to Galaxy boss Bruce Arena as saying that he does not want the Beckham bandwagon to disrupt the club.

The England star agreed to a “time-share” deal which would see him stay with Milan until the end of the Italian season, then return to America to complete the MLS season, which ends in November.

He would then be free to return to Serie A and finish the 2009/10 campaign with the Italian giants.

But a close friend of Arena’s said: “Bruce would feel uncomfortable about disrupting the Galaxy season. David has helped raise the profile of football in America but Galaxy has not been successful with him in the side.

“If there was a turnaround in fortunes without Beckham in the side, there is no guarantee Bruce would want to make major changes. It’s a case of the MLS needing Beckham more than the Galaxy needing him. It’s Bruce’s job to make the Galaxy a success, not to find a home for Beckham,” the source said.
But Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti insists Beckham is as good as World Player of the Year Kaka. (ANI)

Becks must move to Milan to be able to lift FIFA World Cup like ’66′ heroes

London, Feb.18 (ANI): Arsenal legend Ian Wright has said that England midfielder David Beckham should seriously consider a move to the Italian club A C Milan if he wants to lift a FIFA World Cup like England’s 1966 World Cup heroes.

Becks, who equalled Bobby Moore’s 108-cap record in last week’s friendly with Spain, has already revealed his desire to move full-time to Serie A. He is due to return to America next month, even as Milan has sent a team to that country to negotiate a deal with the MLS club L A Galaxy.

“Beckham is desperate to play for England at the World Cup – that’s good news for me. It means he’s getting himself into a state of fitness and a mindset that he wants to win the tournament. I feel there is still something great left in Beckham – and I can definitely picture him holding the World Cup,” The Sun quoted Wright, as saying.

Wright, who is now SunSport’s leading football columnist, believes that Beckham has jeopardized his international career somewhat by playing for L.A. Galaxy.

“On his CV you’ve got Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and AC Milan. LA Galaxy? What’s that about?

“It was a bad move and I’m just pleased he’s realised now,” he added.right fears the ex-England skipper will not rank alongside the game’s greatest players without lifting the biggest prize in football.

“He’s got so much to offer still and his quality is starting to show – that’s why Milan want him to stay. Beckham has got everything. He knows it was a nightmare going to L A Galaxy. If the permanent switch to Milan doesn’t come off, he’ll look back in years to come and realize he made the biggest mistake of his life,” he said. (ANI)

LA Galaxy asks Beckham to return after Milan fails to make second offer

London, Feb 14 (ANI): LA Galaxy has asked English midfielder David Beckham to return to the MLS after Ac Milan failed to make a second offer for the player.

The England star wanted to make his loan deal to AC Milan permanent, but Galaxy insisted that the midfielder is heading home after Milan failed to make a second offer by end of Friday’s deadline.

Tim Leiweke, president of Galaxy parent company AEG, said: “We didn’t receive an offer today. The negotiations are over and we move on. We need David to honour the contract and come home and let’s stop the distraction.”

“I know David is emotionally invested but I don’t think Milan really was that interested in spending the money we would have had to receive to compensate us for our losses. They clearly were looking at this as a football decision and we were looking at it as a football and business decision,” The Sun quoted Leiweke, as saying.

“I’m not sure they ever quite understood the magnitude of the losses the Galaxy and the league would have had to bear this season. They were very respectful discussions,” he added.

Leiweke confirmed that Beckham has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave at the end of this year.

“Clearly the risk is we may lose him at the end of the year. Our hope is the team surprises him and we’re a lot better than last year.”

Beckham’s loan deal at AC Milan ends on March 8, with LA’s season beginning 13 days later. (ANI)

A C Milan will make a 10.5 million pound bid for Beckham today.

London, Feb.13 (ANI): Italian club A C Milan has said that it will make a 10.5 million pound bid for securing the transfer of England football star David Beckham from L. A. Galaxy today.

The announcement comes days after the MLS asked the club to settle the England star’s future by the end of this week.

Milan’s five million pound has already been rejected by L A Galaxy, The Sun reports.

But with Becks, 33, quickly establishing himself as an integral part of the team, Milan are willing to up their bid. They face a crucial derby match against Jose Mourinho’s Inter this weekend and want Beckham’s future resolved beforehand.

The player himself has made no secret of his desire to stay and praised the club for improving his fitness and game.

He said: “Milan has done me the world of good. I am much fitter than a few months ago. In a month and a half, my fitness has grown by 100 per cent. I want to stay and the negotiations are ongoing so I’m hoping for a quick outcome.” (ANI)

MLS sets Beckham deadline for his AC Milan transfer

London, Feb. 12 (ANI): MLS Commissioner Don Garber has told England football star David Beckham to sign for AC Milan now or forget his transfer from LA Galaxy.

“Sign for AC Milan now or the transfer from LA Galaxy is off,” the Sun quoted Garber, as saying.

The 33-year-old midfielder has made it clear that he wants to call time on his two-year stint in Los Angeles to seal a permanent move to Milan.

Keeping in view, the upcoming American season that will start on March 22, Garber has set a deadline to Beckham.

“If it is not resolved by Friday, I will not approve the transfer,” MLS Commissioner said.

“Milan must make an offer to buy him out of his contract that makes sense for MLS and Galaxy,” he added. (ANI)

Battle for Beckham intensifies

London, Feb 7 (ANI): David Beckham will not have to return to LA Galaxy in March and could be confirmed as a full-time AC Milan player if his American club agrees to the fee of 10million pounds plus with the Italian giants.

Beckham currently is midway through a two-month loan to AC Milan. His strong performances in five games for the Serie A team have prompted the club to say that it would like to either extend the loan or acquire Beckham outright.

The former England captain this week voiced his own desire to remain in Italy with a club whose roster includes more international stars than all of Major League Soccer combined.

The Sun quoted sources as saying that the negotiations had speeded up after the intervention of MLS commissioner Don Garber.

And now all the haggling appears to be over the fee Milan would pay to buy Beckham out of his 5-year, 250million dollars deal in America.

AC Milan’s initial offer of 5.7million dollars is below Galaxy’s valuation of 20million dollars, but the midfielder could walk for free in November 2009. (ANI)
