Miss Fresh Face of North East contest a major draw for youth

Guwahati, Sep.18 (ANI): With the growing number of fashion conscious youngsters present in the northeast region of the country, the fashion and beauty industry is gaining popularity here.

This was recently noticed when Miss Fresh Face of North East 2009 contest was held in Guwahati and it received an enthusiastic response from people of the region.

Dabur Gulabari organized the Miss Fresh Face of North East 2009 for which a model hunt was conducted across colleges and institutes in the region to discover fresh new faces from the northeast.

The organisers of the contest received an overwhelming response with over 700 entries of which 150 girls were short-listed for the auditions.

After extensive screening and audition, 18 participants were selected for the Grand Finale.

It was a unique way of spreading awareness among the beauty conscious women of the North East and provides them a platform to enter the world of mainstream modelling.

“Northeast is full of talent. We don’t get into big celebrities. We take fresh faces from the common public and make them a celebrity. We want to associate with fresh talents and bring them to the national platform so that they can grow,” said Dyas Anand, the organizer.

“It is gradually increasing and I believe that it will go on increasing and the reputation will also keep on going up as good upcoming models are also there. I feel it is very good,” said Bidisha Baruah, the winner.

Bidisha Baruah, a resident of Guwahati, was awarded one-year modelling contract with Dabur Gulabari and a cash prize of rupees 50,000.

The first and second runner-up, Wanda Mary of Shillong and Nabanita Sarma of Guwahati also received cash prize of rupees 30,000 and rupees 20,000 respectively. By Peter Alex Todd (ANI)

Recession drives South Africa to ‘naughty sexuality’

Cape Town, May 8 (ANI): The ongoing credit crunch has liberalised people’s attitude towards sex, at least that’s what a research panel at a recent Sexpo suggests.

The world’s largest health, sexuality and lifestyle expo, Sexpo, claims that the gloomy economic climate has seen a move back to “naughty sexuality”, reports 24.com.

“A research panel at a recent Sexpo noted a marked change in taste and naughty choices over the past two years,” organiser Silas Howarth said in a statement.

On the panel were Howarth, behavioural psychologist Dr Kris Launer, Reverend Daniel Brits, Miss Nude SA Bella Anderson and “mind power specialist” Alain D Woolf.

He said: “The global recession, job losses and bleak forecasts have had a major influence on sexuality in 2009… [This indicates] a move back to a naughty sexuality.”

“The global economic crisis, job insecurity and other stress factors will cause in increase in sexual activity between couples, acting as a stress release valve and escape clause from realities,” he added.

According to Howarth, Sexpos around the country had seen a dramatic increase in visitor numbers since the debut event in 2007.

“In some instances attendance has grown by 50 percent. A clear sign that sexuality has come out into the open in South Africa,” he said. (ANI)

Washington, Feb 27 (ANI): Mega-adult conglomerate Vivid Entertainment wants Nadya Suleman, the California woman who made history after giving birth to octuplets on January 26, to have sex in eight different scenes with eight different men.

Yesterday it was being reported that the company had offered 1 million dollars to Suleman to star in a pornographic video.

Vivid’s CEO Stephen Hirsch had said that the company would release the film under their “Vivid-Celeb imprint, which has released titles starring such personalities as Pamela Anderson, Kim Kardashian, and most recently, former Miss USA Kelli MCarty.”

Now, the details of what they want Octomom to do have been revealed.

“The number eight is obviously heavily associated with her so we would like to work with that,” Fox News quoted Hirsch, as telling Tarts.

“But we would really love just to sit down and talk with her and come up with something she feels comfortable with. We want her to be involved with the whole thing from the plot line to the packaging,” he added.

Hirsch says Suleman has received their offer and is considering it.

“She’s struggling financially and this is a woman who wants to provide for her kids. This way she can hold her head high and not be using taxpayers money to support her family,” he added.

However, Suleman has blasted the reports.

“Those guys at Vivid video must be nuts!” she told Radaronline.com.

“Who wants to see me naked? Maybe in a year when the baby fat goes away,” she added. (ANI)

Nicole Kidman tops Most Fashionable Aussie list again

Melbourne, February 23 (ANI): Nicole Kidman has once again been voted the Most Fashionable Aussie in a new survey.

According to the annual Rosemount O Summer Style Index, the actress grabbed the title beating former Miss Universe-turned-TV presenter Jennifer Hawkins.

Cate Blanchett was at the third spot, followed by the World’s Sexiest Man Hugh Jackman, the only male in the top 10.

Wrapping up the top five was the stunning singer Kylie Minogue.

Rosemount marketing manager Sandy Mayo accorded the results to the Australians’ preference for classic style icons.

“The Rosemount O Summer Style Index shows us that Australians value a classic sense of style that transcends every age – from Jennifer Hawkins and Miranda Kerr through to the timeless style of Quentin Bryce and Maggie Tabberer,” the Herald Sun quoted her as saying.

“And while it’s probably not a big surprise that Melbourne ranks highest on the style stakes, it’s interesting to see suburbs with a more accessible and laid back personality such as Noosa and Unley ranking on Australia’s style radar,” she added. (ANI)

Former Miss USA Kelli McCarty makes foray into porn flicks

Washington, Feb 13 (ANI): Kelli McCarty, who once won the title of miss USA, has made her foray into porn flicks.

She has debuted in adult flicks with her flick called ‘”Faithless” with Vivid Entertainment.

“I enjoy acting, and I really like sex, so this was the perfect opportunity to combine two of my passions, It was a pretty easy transition, I think mainstream television is definitely starting to merge with the adult world anyway – it’s all about sex and nudity, and I’ve been pretending to have love scenes on ‘Passions’ for years anyway,” Fox News quoted McCarty as saying.

However, McCarty is miffed that her male counterparts have began treating her differently.

McCarty says that her family is very supportive.

“It’s such an accomplishment, I co-wrote the script and had it in my contract that I was to have a lot of power and control in the production which I never had in the mainstream,” she said.

“I’m happy that I can be out there talking openly about it, I’m so proud that I could make this happen,” she added. (ANI)

Computer glitch causes chaos at Taiwan airport

Taipei – A computer breakdown at the Taipei international airport continued Tuesday, causing chaos with customs officers hand- recording departing passengers’ data and passengers forming long queues, according to radio reports.

The computer glitch, which began at about 6:45 am Monday, continued Tuesday, prompting Immigration Minister Hsieh Li-kung to show up at the Taoyuan International Airport near Taipei to supervise repair work, Broadcasting Corp of China said.

As queues of departing passengers become longer, the airport plans to open all its 42 counters to speed up customs clearance and prevent flight delays. The real worry is that some criminals might take advantage of the loophole to flee Taiwan, the report said.

Monday’s computer glitch came one day after the baggage-handling system at the airport’s Number 2 Terminal malfunctioned, causing more than 100 pieces of luggage to miss flights. (dpa)

Narcissit Bush is a failed head of state: NYT

New York, Jan.5 (ANI): U.S. President George W. Bush will largely be seen as a failed head of state, because he spent most of his eight years thinking about himself, rather than the nation, an article in the New York Times has said.

The last NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll on Bush’s presidency found that 79 percent of Americans would not miss him after he leaves the White House.

“He is being forgotten already, even if he’s not yet gone. You start to pity him until you remember how vast the wreckage is. It stretches from the Middle East to Wall Street to Main Street and even into the heavens, which have been a safe haven for toxins under his passive stewardship,” says the paper.

“The discrepancy between the grandeur of the failure and the stature of the man is a puzzlement. We are still trying to compute it,” the paper adds.

The paper further goes on to say that the one indisputable talent of his White House was its ability to create and sell propaganda both to the public and the press.

But it concludes that “now that bag of tricks is empty as well.”

“The man who emerges is a narcissist with no self-awareness whatsoever. It’s that arrogance that allowed him to tune out even the most calamitous of realities, freeing him to compound them without missing a step. The president who famously couldn’t name a single mistake of his presidency at a press conference in 2004, still can’t. (ANI)

McFLY’s Danny Jones dumps girlfriend for Miss England

London, Jan 4 (ANI): Danny Jones, the lead singer of McFLY, has reportedly dumped his girlfriend of two years for Miss England.

According to sources, the crooner of the hell-raising band was caught snogging with Laura Coleman after performing at the Miss World pageant in South Africa.

He then admitted about the clinch to his loyal girlfriend Olivia Shaw, before promptly ending their relationship.

Now, Danny is happily dating Laura — and according to sources, he’s smitten.

A pal revealed: “Danny’s a very honest guy. He didn’t want to cheat on Olivia, so as soon as he kissed Laura he realised he had to end the relationship.

“Danny never slept with Laura while he was still with Olivia, they only kissed.”

Dan and Olivia were on the rocks for a while, but despite this, the news did come as a complete blow to Olivia, reports News of the World.

The source added: “She hadn’t seen it coming. Danny has always loved his girl fanbase, but he was so tight with Olivia.

“So it was a real slap in the face when Danny told her he had kissed Miss England. Deciding to end the relationship was a double blow.”

Danny’s first dalliance with Laura took place on December 13 after McFly had performed their hit single Lies at the Miss World final.

The source disclosed: “It happened after the show. There was an instant attraction between Danny and Laura.” (ANI)

Miss World jury was unfair, says Parvathy

JOHANNESBURG/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congratulations poured for Parvathy Omanakuttan for making “India proud” despite missing the Miss World 2008
crown by a whisker but the lanky Kerala beauty feels she was done in by the jury alleging that its decision to adjudge her only second best was “unfair”.

“I have performed better than others in the personality and question-answer round. This is not just that. All those who watched it yesterday felt like that. I feel the jury’s decision was unfair”, Parvathy(21), who was adjudged the first runner up from among 108 contestants at the Miss World pageant in Johannesburg, told Kerala’s India Vision channel.

“I had confidence. I could do well. The question-round did not come as a challenge to me considering my background in literature,” said Parvathy, who hails from Changanassery in Kottayam in “God’s own Country”, as hopes soared in India that she would bring back the coveted title which was last won by an Indian girl in 2000 when her name was announced in the five semi-finalists.

There were mixed emotions at Parvathy’s mother’s home in Madapally village in Changanassery. Some relatives felt she deserved to win the title ahead of the Russian blonde Ksenya Sukhinova while others thought it was a proud moment for India for coming second position warding off competition from over 100 beauties from around the world.

“Well done Parvathy! We are all proud of u!!! Successful exit matters more than a favourable entrance…. U made urself count… another feather in India’s cap..,” a fan commented on the official website of the Miss World contest.

Another comment noted that though the Malayalee did not win the crown her coming second was a splendind achievement overcoming stiff competition.

“We are proud of you!,” the mail said.

Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999) and Priyanka Chopra (2000) were the previous five Indian beauty queens who had won the coveted title.

A compatriot from Kerala wrote to the 5 feet 9 inch- tall Parvathy that she wishes to send her “oaraayiram poochendukal, Parvathii, ellavidha ashamsakalum” (1,000 bouquets and all the very best wishes).

Another fan, Malavika wrote that the feat was “still an amazing achievement!!!”

“Best of luck for the future!!!! I am a pageant freak and I was so happy that our country made a mark at Miss World 2008. waiting for your return!!!!!!!!,” she wrote.

Parvathy, hailing from Kottayam, grew up in Mumbai. Having graduated in Arts, she has studied Sociology, Psychology & English Literature.

Parvathy’s ambition is to further her studies in Psychology to learn more about human behaviour in depth, her bio-data on the website says.

The lanky beauty is an ardent sports fan with a special interest in basketball, badminton and swimming.

She has a special talent for whistling. She likes listening to music, singing, reading, glass painting, acting, modelling, dancing (varying from local dances to ballroom and Latin dances) and learning new languages.

Parvathy is also very fond of a beautiful quote by former President APJ Abdul Kalam ‘Dreams are not what you see in your sleep, but dreams
are that, which do not allow you to sleep’, hence her motto in life is ‘Dream with your eyes open’.

The princess sustained a minor concussion after falling down some stairs during a visit to Ukraine last month, and has since been on sick leave.

The medical recommendation means that the princess will miss out on the upcoming functions to mark the 60th birthday of Britain’s Prince Charles.

Norwegian Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon were slated to attend the celebrations next week of the heir to the British throne.

The 35-year-old princess fell on October 20 during a visit to a support group for people living with HIV/Aids. Her visit to Ukraine was in her capacity as a goodwill ambassador for the joint United Nations programme, UNAIDS. (dpa)
