Lady Gaga hits back at producer’s claim she ditched him

London, Mar 20 (ANI): ‘Poker Face’ singer Lady Gaga has hit back at a music producer who claims that he launched her career and was later ditched by her.

In court papers that were made public, Gaga’s lawyer said the agreement at the heart of the suit was “unlawful”.

Songwriter and music producer Rob Fusari filed the 20.3 million pounds lawsuit on March 17 in Manhattan against the Grammy Award-winning performer for denying him his 20 percent share.

According to the lawsuit, Gaga and Fusari’s relationship turned romantic and then became a business partnership in May 2006, when they created a joint venture called Team Love Child to promote her career.

But Gaga’s lawyer Charles Ortner wrote in his response that the arrangement was “structured in such a way as to mask its true purpose – to provide to the defendants unlawful compensation for their services as unlicensed employment agents”.

Ortner wrote that Fusari and his company violated statutes, which prohibited them from “acting as employment agents without a licence and charging Lady Gaga an unlawful fee for their purported services”.

But Fusari’s lawyer Robert Meloni called the claim “ludicrous”.

“Fusari is a partner in the Team Love LLC with Gaga and her father (through their company Mermaid),” the Daily Express quoted Meloni as writing in an email.

“Rob was no more of an ‘agent’ for her than she is a Roman Catholic nun,” he added. (ANI)

Australian tots to get career advice

Sydney – A ballerina, Spiderman, a vet, a train driver and sometimes even a sea lion: these are the jobs that toddlers see themselves in when they grow up.

Kate Castine, an adviser to Australia ‘s department of education, isn’t happy about this and wants 4-year-olds to be more serious about their career options.

As well as the danger of the nappy-bound hankering after non-existent jobs such as that of a mermaid even, there is a risk that they will just want to copy mum and dad and be farmers or housewives, doctors or welfare dependents.

Castine wants proper career counseling to be in the national childcare curriculum the department is busy drawing up.

“The argument that children should be exposed to career development concepts at an early age has been endorsed by current worldwide research,” she said. “Reference to career development competencies needs to be explicit so (kindergarten) teachers understand its importance.”

Castine’s recommendations have been criticized by some who see them as an attempt to hijack childhood and burden little ones with worries about what to do when their schooling is over.

Barrie Elvish, head of a big Queensland childcare provider, argues that careers advice should come much later. “It’s bad enough that kids in years 11 and 12 have to choose a career,” he said. “How on earth can you get a 4-year-old to think about what they’ll be doing in 20 years’ time?” (dpa)

Snow White, Robin Hood give kids wrong message about ‘stranger danger’

London, Apr 12 (ANI): Classic Disney cartoon films like Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Robin Hood are sending the wrong message to kids about how to deal with “stranger danger”, say researchers.

According to researchers, the films contain scenes in which children receive “unwanted personal contact” or threatening approaches from adults, and that the victims fail to set a good example in the way they respond.

In one instance, the researchers found that the Pinocchio had been “groomed” by the adult characters Honest John and Gideon but that his response to the abuse resembled “victim blaming”, The Telegraph reported.

The report, however, pinpointed that characters, like Mowgli, in the Jungle Book, and Alice, in Alice in Wonderland, are able to successfully handle to threats they face from adults.

It adds: “It is possible that viewing these scenes could influence children to believe that telling a trusted adult about a stranger’s advances is unnecessary because the film characters model successful independence.”

The study has been published in the journal Child Abuse, and was conducted by a team of psychologists, sociologists and anthropologists at Carleton University, in Canada.

The academics wrote that they were “surprised to find depictions of children being touched, usually by adults, contrary to the expressed desires of the child”.

To reach the conclusion, researchers studied 47 animated feature length Disney films, released between 1937 and 2006.

In ten of them, they found examples of “unwanted personal contact” or scenes which show child characters in “risky situations”.

Dr Wendy Hovdestad, the lead author, said: “The depictions of child and adolescent characters being grabbed and kissed against their will by adult characters is particularly problematic for the boy characters Wart (The Sword in the Stone), Flounder (The Little Mermaid), and Skippy (Robin Hood), because the context in the film is humorous.

“The treatment would probably be upsetting if it happened to a real child, and treating it as humorous is directly contradicting sexual safety education that teaches children that they get to decide who touches their bodies.”

The report concludes: “The findings raise questions about potential impacts on child audiences. Is the unwanted contact and risky situation content appropriate viewing for children, given efforts to teach children sexual safety?”

A Disney spokeswoman said, “As we have not studied the report we are unable to comment.” (ANI)

Pet Shop Boys to compose ballet based on Hans Christian Andersen story

London, Feb 21 (ANI): The Pet Shop Boys are working on a ballet based on a Hans Christian Andersen story, Neil Tennant has revealed.

The singer said that the work, which will be staged at Sadler’s Wells, will feature “electronics and strings.”

Tennant told Radio 2 presenter Stuart Maconie that the piece could open at the London theatre in 2011.

He and keyboardist Chris Lowe were composing an original score, he said.

Winning an outstanding contribution at Wednesday night’s Brit Awards had given the duo “a warm feeling”, he added.

The 54-year-old star who told Maconie he liked “Shostakovich a lot” and that Prokofiev was “brilliant”, said the ballet was “a very exciting project”.

“It’s quite a big project. There’s a lot of music to write but we’ve written half an hour of it and we’ve done a bit of a workshop with them. It’s got a story, it’s like a Tchaikovsky ballet in that it’s based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen but we’ve got the choreographer sorted out now,” The BBC quoted him, as saying.

He added: “We’re going to be working on that across the year but we’re touring so we probably won’t get it really finished until the end of next year.”

The duo will release their 10th studio album, Yes, next month and will play live dates in June at Manchester Apollo and London’s O2 arena.

Christian Andersen was a Danish author and poet, most famous for his fairy tales. Among his best-known stories are “The Steadfast Tin Soldier”, “The Snow Queen”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Thumbelina”, “The Little Match Girl”, “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Red Shoes”. (ANI)
