Meet Prince Charles and Camilla, the ‘wedding planners’!

London, Sept 20 (ANI): Prince Charles and wife Camilla are turning wedding planners and “loaning out” their country retreat of Highgrove House to wannabe brides and grooms.

And included in the package will be the royal couple’s shared “expertise”.

Like Charles and Camilla did at their Windsor wedding four years ago, couples will be encouraged to “keep it simple”, say reports.

As per rumours, the first pair to enjoy a “Charles and Camilla wedding” are TV babe Jenni Falconer and her actor fiancĂ© James Midgley, reports The Daily Star.

A royal source said: “Obviously with it being their house they would want control of the event. But they also recognise what a great opportunity it would be to showcase their home.

“Highgrove is an absolutely fantastic building and would make a wonderful venue for a wedding and reception.”

The nine-bedroom country house on a 37-acre estate near Tetbury, Gloucestershire, was bought for Charles in 1980.

A source said: “Charles is hugely proud of Highgrove. It’s a wonderful property and he has spent thousands of pounds on the gardens and grounds. I’m sure by holding weddings there Charles would take great pleasure being the host.

“And he could use them to promote the Duchy Originals organic products he’s involved with.” (ANI)

“I’d be intimidated, too, to meet the First Lady,” the Daily Express quoted her as telling Woman and Home magazine.

“That’s why I’m so touchy with kids, because I think if I touch them and I hug them, that they’ll see that it’s real and then relax and breathe.

Meet roach Heathcliffe, contender for World’s Heaviest Insect title

Melbourne, Aug 28 (ANI): Heathcliffe, a giant burrowing cockroach, could be the world’s heaviest insect.

The cockroach, 85mm in length and 40mm in width, gives birth to live young ones, unlike other members of its family who lay eggs.

The Australian giant lives in burrows and feeds on leaves.

The Daily Telegraph quoted Nathan Lo, senior biology lecturer in Sydney University as saying: “Native to western NSW and north Queensland, they can reach 30 to 35g and more than 85mm in length.”

He added: “They are the world’s heaviest cockroach and if not the heaviest of all insects, they are certainly a contender.

“They are different to other insects in a lot of ways and are totally unrelated to the American or German cockroaches found in Australian households.”

Speaking on the age and breeding habits of the Heathcliffe, Lo said: “Giants can live up to eight years, which is pretty amazing for an insect.

“When they give birth it’s to live young, not eggs, and they leave the babies in their burrows, come out in the evening to collect leaf litter and bring it back to the burrow for the young ones to eat.

“They look after them for several months.”

Heathcliffe will be displayed at the Sydney University this weekend. (ANI)

I don’t know who they are but they know who I am. It’s totally unfair,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

He said: “So I tell them, ‘I know my face, you know my face. I want to see you. Meet me at this place here and let’s have that discussion. And if you don’t believe it’s me call this number.’

Meet the male cockerel whose insatiable sex drive killed its exhausted mate!

London, July 9 (ANI): A cockerel named Elvis has come to be known as a “ladykiller” after his hen’s death from exhaustion, which believably was a result of her inability to keep up with her mate’s sexual appetite.

The cockerel, who used to have four hens vying for his attention, was left with only Berol to keep his libido satisfied after three of the lot died.

According to reports, Berol had to be put to sleep after becoming exhausted by Elvis’s constant demands.

One-year-old Elvis’ owner Katherine Cooke, who works as a nurse at Buckley House veterinary surgery in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, is now searching for a new home and hen harem for the cockerel.

“Elvis is a young, fit cockerel and he wants what all cockerels want, a new harem – a new group of ladies,” the Telegraph quoted Katherine, 32, as saying.

“He very handsome and is a stereotypical cockerel like the one off the Kellogg’s boxes. He is quite the bachelor.

“He has had a troubled life. He used to live with four lady friends but unfortunately rats got in to their coop one night and there was a mass murder and three of them died. Berol was certainly then the centre of his attention,” she added.

She presently keeps Elvis in a coop at a horse’s stables in nearby Ravenshead.

“Elvis is very, very noisy. I want to try and find a new home but it’s quite difficult because I don’t want him to get an Asbo,” she said. (ANI)

Meet the trainer behind Jackman’s body in ‘X-men Origins: Wolverine’

London, July 05 (ANI): The credit for Hugh Jackman’s muscular look in his recent film ‘X-men Origins: Wolverine’ goes to his personal trainer Michael Ryan.

However, it did not come cheap, the expert charged 350 dollars an hour for sharpening the star’s body.

“Wolverine’s producers thanked me and said I was a cheap investment because the film took 80 million dollars in its first weekend, but it wasn’t the film people remember, it was how good Hugh’s body looked,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

In fact, the trainer is now on high demand among film stars; he has already worked with Lara Bingle.

And he makes his big customers work hard to attain the desired shape.

Jackman’s bouts included 3am starts, cold showers, 100kg weight squats and 280kg leg presses.

He said: “Obviously I have the secrets that got Hugh to look like he does, which is one aspect.

“But it’s based on demand, and I’m in a position where I have a profile and don’t have a lot of time.”

Michael is also a long time friend of Jackman whom he met while working as a personal trainer at The Physical Factory, on Sydney’s north shore, when he was a university student.

Hugh had promised to hire him when he became a big actor. (ANI)

Meet the Brit couple who received 24 toasters as wedding gifts

London, July 2 (ANI): A British couple were left surprised finding that they had received 24 toasters as wedding gifts.

Claire and Stuart Linley, who married at Howden Minster, East Yorkshire, last Saturday, had asked for cash or vouchers from their 160 guests, which they planned to put toward a honeymoon.

The pair first realised something was up when they received a pile of gifts all in the same shaped box.owever, upon opening the presents, they were left bemused because each one was a Tesco white 2-slice toaster.

It later emerged that the “coincidence” was actually a joke conceived on Linley’s stag party in Ibiza.

“The boys were asking me what I wanted as a wedding present, and I said either money or vouchers because I didn’t want to end up with a million toasters,” the Telegraph quoted the auto-electrician, 31, as saying.

“Then one of my friends took it upon himself to tell everyone to buy us a toaster.

“On the morning when we came to open our presents I knew something was going on as I had had about 15 text messages asking if I was having toast for breakfast,” he added.

The couple have returned 23 of the toasters, but decided to keep one.

Mrs Linley, 31, an estate agent, said: “When we went to open our presents and saw all the boxes were the same shape I thought, ‘this is quite strange’, and then we began to open them and it was toaster after toaster after toaster.

She added: “It was hilarious really. Most of them were from Tesco and when we took them back to the store the staff couldn’t stop laughing. We did make beans on toast for lunch when we got home though.” (ANI)

Meet, the 11-month-old tot who’s kept alive by Viagra

London, July 1 (AN): Despite being given just a few weeks to live by doctors, a little boy with a serious heart condition has managed to survive, courtesy anti-impotence drug Viagra.

Little Alfie Oliver, who needs six doses of the drug every day, is set to celebrate his first birthday in two weeks.

Alfie was born with two of his main arteries reversed, and surgeons switched them when he was 16 days old.

During a second op at three months, he had a heart attack and was rushed to intensive care.

Parents Tracey, 26, and rail worker Rob, 28, were told that he was less likely to survive and were put in touch with a children’s hospice.

Medics diagnosed the incurable blood vessel disorder pulmonary hypertension, which hits only a handful of children in Britain each year.

They prescribed liquid Viagra to open up the vessels.

After the treatment, Alfie is doing well and learning to walk, although doctors have warned that he may one day require a heart and lung transplant.

“We were shocked when the doctors put him on Viagra as you don’t think of it as a drug for babies,” the Sun quoted Tracey, of York, as saying.

“We don’t mind though. We call it Alfie’s lifesaver.

“It makes people giggle when we tell them – but if it keeps our son alive then who cares. He is our little fighter,” she added. (ANI)

Meet the Aussie lamb born with five legs and six feet

Melbourne, Jun 27 (ANI): A lamb born with five legs and six feet on a New South Wales property, southwest of Sydney, has left many surprised.

According to the Macarthur Chronicle, Neil Falk, who found the peculiar looking lamb on his Tahmoor property shortly after its birth on June 14, says that this is the second time in his life that he has come across such an abnormality.

The lamb has four normal fully functioning legs, and an extra leg with two feet growing out of the back of its head.

“I went to a show years ago where we had to pay to get in and they had a sheep with five legs,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“Everyone said the leg was sewn on or something but this one certainly isn’t,” he said.

Despite the additional limb, Falk said that the lamb was running around healthily and showing no signs of distress.

A spokeswoman for the Sydney University veterinary facilities at Cobbitty said that the lamb’s condition was extremely rare.

“There’s lots of things that can cause the abnormality like genetics or toxins which impair the development of different stages of the foetus,” she said.

“We don’t see it very often but when we do see it it can sometimes be because of something the animal ate,” she added.

Falk, who does not know what to do with the new lamb, said if it had been unwell he would have put it down but he was happy to keep it around while it remained healthy. (ANI)

Meet Barack Obama, the comedian!

New York, June 20 (ANI): US President Barack Obama sent the crowd into stitches with his jokes at the 65th Annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner.

The popular leader made other politicians, the economy, health care reform, his own White House team and other problems facing the nation the butt of his jokes during the Washington, D.C. affair.

Obama scored enough laughs while referring to a picture of Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel riding a camel in Egypt.

“I admit, I was a little nervous about the whole situation. I said at the time, “This is a wild animal known to bite, kick and spit. And who knows what the camel could do?” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.

Speaking about the attempts to reform health care, he said: “I have gained the support of the American Medical Association.”

He then added, “It proves true the old expression that it’s easier to catch flies with honey. And if honey doesn’t work, feel free to use an open palm and a swift, downward wrist motion.”

Obama then told those present that efforts were being made to help restore financial institutions and auto companies gain back their strength.

He added: “But you probably wouldn’t understand the concept of troubled industries, working as you do in radio and television.”

And when he realised, that may stir a commotion, the President grinned and said: “W-h-a-a-t! I can’t joke about that.”

He later declared: “I have no ambition to run an auto company.”

Obama did not even spare Secretary of State Clinton’s fractured broken elbow, saying the “Secret Service spotted Richard Holbrooke spraying WD40″ all over the driveway where she fell.

He joked: “Now on top of the cost of health care and the recovery plan we have another fiscal problem. Fortunately, the lawyers tell me Hillary is ready to settle.” (ANI)

Meet the Mowgli girl who was raised by dogs in a sqaulid flat

London, May 30 (ANI): A five-year-old girl has been nicknamed Mowgli because she has been raised by dogs since birth and has even developed dog like traits.

Natasha Mikhailova, walks on all fours, laps up food and drink with her tongue and communicates by barking.

It is believed that Natasha has never left the squalid, unheated three-room flat she lived in with her dad and grandparents.

A tip-off from concerned neighbours led to her rescue as she was found dressed in ripped and soiled clothes and surrounded by dogs and cats.

“For five years the girl was brought up by several dogs and cats and had never been out,” The Mirror quoted the Police as saying.

One neighbour in the city of Chita, Siberia, said: “We didn’t know she existed. They have three vicious dogs they took for walks but we never saw this child.”

Nicknamed Mowgli after the Jungle Book character raised by animals, Natasha now resides at a rehabilitation centre where specialists are shocked at the way she leaps at humans and plays dog games.

The specialists have said that she is not mentally retarded, but is only starved of contact with humans – and shuns other children.

Centre boss Nina Yemelchugova said: “When I went out of the room she jumped at the door and started barking, not just mewing or something, but barking. She laps up food from the plate.”

Police chief Larisa Popova, one of the first to enter the flat, said: “Her father was not there, but the dogs sought to protect her. She was living in filthy conditions. We were almost knocked over by the stink.”

Natasha’s dad Victor Lozhkin, 27, and mum Yana Mikhailova, 25, who has had no contact with her for two years, have been arrested on suspicion of neglect and could face three years in jail. (ANI)

Ben Stiller to bag MTV’s Generation Award

London, May 25 (ANI): Ben Stiller will be bagging one of the biggest honours at this year’s MTV Movie Awards-the Generation Award.

The ‘Meet The Parents’ funnyman has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious award for giving cinemagoers some of the funniest characters of the last decade, including Zoolander, Gaylord Focker and Tugg Speedman.

The 43-year-old comic started his career with his own MTV series in the early 1990s, but it was subsequently cancelled after one season.

However, the actor fondly remembers his time at the channel, and jokingly confessed that he romanced veteran MTV presenter J.J. Jackson.

“I am honoured to be getting the Generation Award. I was given my first show at MTV and also cancelled for the first time. I also was secretly having an affair with J.J. Jackson, so it brings back pleasant memories,” the Daily star quoted him as saying.

The Golden Popcorn prizes, nominated and voted for by MTV viewers, will be handed out in Los Angeles on May 31. (ANI)

Meet the ‘spidercat’ that climbs walls!

London, May 19 (ANI): A ginger and white cat has been nicknamed ‘Spidercat’ because of its unique ability to scale the walls of his master’s home in Denny, near Falkirk, Scotland, to sneak indoors via the upstairs balcony door.

What’s more, the super cat can hold onto the entire pebbledash surface of the walls while making his vertical ascent.

Owner Hannah Smith said she discovered her pet’s talent when she let him out of the front door downstairs, only for him to reappear indoors moments later.

“Charlie miaows at the front door to be let out. So we let him out but no sooner is he let out than he wants back in,” the Telegraph quoted Smith as saying.

“But if no one hears him at the front door, he wanders round to the back of the buildings to find the balcony. He then climbs up to the balcony to get back in.

“So Charlie really goes out the front door and in the back door.

“I got him as a wee kitten and out of the litter Charlie was the one that looked most mischievous and I liked that about him. He’s certainly lived up to his reputation.

“I think it is totally incredible how Charlie is able to climb up a roughcast wall. I’ve seen cats climb trees but I’ve never seen a cat climb a wall. It’s amazing,” she added. (ANI)

Meet the robot that reached its destination asking directions from strangers

Washington, May 14 (ANI): German roboticists have made a mobile robot that rolls up to any humans nearby, and asks for directions to reach its destination.

The breakthrough from the Technical University of Munich is the first time that such a robot has been designed that can be properly let loose in the real world, such as city roads.

Martin Buss, who led the team behind this advance, revealed that they dumped the robot called Autonomous City Explorer (ACE) outside the university, and instructed it to find its way to the Marienplatz in the centre of Munich, some 1.5 kilometres away.

He further revealed that the robot lacked an inbuilt map of Munich or a GPS system, and just like a lost human in a similar situation, all it could do was ask for directions.

ACE uses cameras and software to detect humans nearby, based on their motion and upright posture. A speaker working in sync with the animated mouth is used to get the person’s attention, and to ask them to touch the screen if they want to help.

Willing guides are then asked to point the robot in the correct direction, with the response being analysed by posture recognition software.

Once the direction is set, the robot says “thank you” before trundling off.

Pointing, rather than telling the robot where to go, avoids confusion caused by the fact that the robot and the facing pedestrian each have a different sense of left and right.

Buss revealed that during the experiment, though ACE interacted with 38 people over a period of nearly five hours, it eventually reached its destination.

Only once was ACE given the wrong directions, and it had to finally stop due to obstacles. Afterwards, it asked someone else for help, who put it back on course.

“In theory the robot has to continue on its incorrect path until it needs new information, this is why we are currently working on a system to check the information from humans for plausibility,” says team member Andrea Bauer.

Impressed with the study, Paul Newman, a roboticist at the University of Oxford in the UK, said: “It’s absolutely the way to go.”

He says that navigating a changing environment can be a complicated cognitive task, and “invoking humans when appropriate” could be a relatively simple way for robots to meet the challenge.

A report describing ACE has been published in the International journal of Social Robotics. (ANI)

Zardari says war against militants started much before 9/11

Washington, May 11 (ANI): Responding strongly to critics of his administration in the United States, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday that the war against extremists and militants in the tribal badlands had begun much before the 9/11 strikes across America.

“It’s a war of our existence,” Zardari told NBC News’s Meet the Press.

“We’ve been fighting this war much before they attacked 9/11,” he added.

He also rejected the notion that Pakistan is on the brink of collapse and added that his country is merely one front in the global struggle against terrorism.

“I consider the philosophy of Taliban as threat to the world, not just to Pakistan and your country, but I feel it’s a larger threat. I think we need to find a strategy where the world gets together against this threat, because it’s not Pakistan specific, it’s not Afghanistan specific,” Zardari said.

“I think the world needs to understand that this is the new challenge of the 21st century and this is the new war, and we’ve all got together,” he added. (ANI)
