Giant killer Del Potro believes he is the biggest tennis star on the circuit

New York, Sep.16 (ANI): Argentine tennis player Juan Martin Del Potro still can’t believe he has won this US Open, but now believes he is the biggest new star in tennis.

“It’s my best sensation,” he said. “Since my childhood I have dreamed of this trophy. I have realised my dream. It is an incredible moment. It’s amazing match, amazing people. Everything is perfect. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week I will be believing in this. Now, I can’t believe it,” The Mirror quoted Del Potro, as saying.

The 6 ft 6in Argentine caused a massive upset by beating a fustered Roger Federer in five thrilling sets in the US Open final.

The world No.1, the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion, was seeking his sixth successive title after winning 40 consecutive matches at Flushing Meadows.

But he was simply battered into submission by the 20-yearold with a murderous forehand making his first appearance in a Grand Slam final. Despite a horrible start, Del Potro triumphed 3-6 7-6 (7/5) 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 6-2 in four hours and six minutes – the longest US Open final for 20 years. (ANI)

Murray takes a tennis break to perform a rap song

London, Sep.1 (ANI): British tennis champion Andy Murray, who is hoping to be World Number One, soon, took a break from the game to do a rap number for an album.

But he admits he is unlikely to be a top 10 success in the music charts.

The British star has been fine-tuning his US Open plans and is looking to go one step further than last year when Roger Federer beat him in the final.

Yet second-seed Murray, who takes on Ernests Gulbis in the first round at Flushing Meadows today, took a break from practice to record a rap verse for an album written and produced by tennis twins Mike and Bob Bryan.

According to The Sun, the album, called Let It Rip, is being released today.

Murray admitted: “It was the first time I had done that – it was good fun.”

“I think that was the whole point of it. It definitely wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t particularly good,” he added. (ANI)

New York considers closing schools if swine flu spreads

New York – New York City authorities considered Monday to close schools to prevent the swine flu from striking children after eight students at a Queens high school were confirmed sick of disease, reports said. The US government has declared a national public health emergency after tests confirmed 40 people in the United States, including the eight students in New York, have mild cases of the flu.

The Saint Francis high school in Fresh Meadows, Queens, where the eight students were found sick, was closed Monday and Tuesday to allow cleaning crews to sanitize the school.

Local news reports said six of the eight ill students apparently contract the flu during spring break in Mexico. They said about 150 students at the same school reported flu-like symptoms and were submitted to tests, prompting talks of a mass school closings to thwart the flu from spreading.(dpa)
