Marilyn Monroe”s unseen diaries reveal her intellectual side

London, April 29 (ANI): Marilyn Monroe fans can soon get a glimpse of the intellectual in her, thanks to the upcoming publication of her hitherto unseen diaries.

Readers can lay their hands on Monroe”s notes, which include poetry, musing on the renaissance and even a recipe for stuffing, as the collection is published by French publisher Bernard Comment and American house Straus and Giroux in October.

Anna Strasberg, widow of Lee Strasberg who was Monroe”s friend and acting instructor, inherited the diaries after the star”s death in 1962.

The book, titled “Fragments”, sheds light on Monroe”s frustration with being cast as a sex object.

“There is a certain melancholy tone throughout the book, and what is very beautiful in some of the notes is the way you see the association between ideas, even if they are quite scattered all over the page,” the Telegraph quoted Comment, editor at Editions du Seuil, as saying.

He added: “They go in all directions and it can be sometimes quite difficult to find order within the fragments.”

Talking about Monroe”s writing, Comment said: “I think that not only did she enjoy, but she also felt the need (to write), to sort out her life and try to put down the extremely acute feelings that she could have in reaction to certain situations.”

Some of the jottings date from as early as 1943 but most were penned from 1951 to 1962.

Comment said: “(Her writing) helps to illuminate her character and gives her an intellectual and literary substance that many people did not suspect.”

Courtney Hodell, an executive editor at the US publishing house, added: “She was a great reader and someone with real writing flair.

“There are fragments of poetry that are really quite beautiful, lines that stop you in your tracks.” (ANI)

Michael Bay defends Megan Fox over “dumb-as-a-rock” claims

London, Sep 14 (ANI): American film producer Michael Bay has had to defend actress Megan Fox from the crew on movie ‘Transformers’ after they branded her “dumb” and “ungracious”.

The event had taken place after three unnamed workers posted an open letter supporting Bay, 44, on his official website after Fox, 23, lashed out at him in a recent interview.

Fox had compared the director to Hitler in an interview with Britain’s Wonderland magazine, and told how he had “no social skills” and is “hopelessly awkward”.

But her comments about Bay did not sit well with some of the crewmembers of ‘Transformers’, and they in turn slammed her on-set behaviour.

They described “the tedious experience of working with the dumb-as-a-rock Megan Fox,” and insisted they “had the unbearable time of watching her try to act on set”.

They also branded Fox “as ungracious a person as you can fathom,” and complained she refused to thank them when they had “to deal with the awful silly Marilyn Monroe tattoo plastered on her arm that we cover up”.

But Bay was unimpressed with the letter, and it was removed from his website on September 12 and replaced with a piece from the director himself, defending Fox and insisting her negative comments are part of her “crazy charm”.

“I don’t condone the crew letter to Megan. And I don’t condone Megan’s outlandish quotes. But her crazy quips are part of her crazy charm,” the Daily Express quoted him as writing.

“The fact of the matter (is) I still love working with her, and I know we still get along. I even expect more crazy quotes from her on Transformers 3,” he added. (ANI)

Washington, September 2 (ANI): Supermodel Heidi Klum has revealed that she is looking forward to her upcoming Barbie Doll with pink underwear.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel, who is eight months pregnant, said she wanted to impress her daughter with non-naked version of the popular playmate.

“It’s part of Mattel’s Blonde Ambition series. The first one is Marilyn Monroe, the second is Goldie Hawn and the third is me!” Fox News quoted her as telling Los Angeles Confidential Magazine.

“They said, “We want you to be part of this.” And I thought, Wow! Growing up with Barbie, it’s a dream to get my own.

“I got to go to Mattel and look through the heads and hair and outfits. I wanted it to be my daughter’s favorite, so I’m wearing the glitziest pink mini dress in the world.

“And it always bothered me that Barbie was naked, so mine has on this cute pink bra and panties,” she added. (ANI)

Megan Fox suffers “bouts of schizophrenia”

Washington, Sept 2 (ANI): Hollywood starlet Megan Fox has revealed that she suffers “bouts of schizophrenia.”

The stunner, who starred in The Transformers, has confessed that she has struggled with mental health problems since her youth, and, although she hasn’t been officially diagnosed, she is convinced she shows symptoms of the psychiatric condition.

And the condition torments her in the form of auditory hallucinations, paranoid delusions and social dysfunction.

The 23 year old also revealed that she has been following the life and death of Marilyn Monroe – who died of a drug overdose at the age of 36 – because she fears her end would be similar to hers.

She tells Wonderland magazine, “I basically read every book ever written about Marilyn Monroe. I could end up like that because I constantly struggle with the idea that I think I’m a borderline personality – or that I have bouts of mild schizophrenia.

“I definitely have some kind of mental problem and I haven’t pinpointed what it is.” (ANI)

Winning bidder of $4.6M crypt above Marilyn Monroe’s says ‘backs out’

New York, Aug 26 (ANI): The Japanese man who made the winning bid on eBay to buy the crypt above Marilyn Monroe’s grave, at a whopping 4.6 million dollars, apparently cannot afford it.

Beverly Hills widow Elsie Poncher, whose dead husband was laid to rest in the crypt directly above Monroe, put her beloved’s valuable vault on the block August 14 to help pay off the 1.6 million dollars mortgage on her home.

The bidding for the crypt, which started at 500,000 dollars, shot to 4.6 million dollars in three days.

But when a representative for the widow sent an invoice to the winning bidder on Monday, he sent an email saying that he couldn’t afford it.

“I am awfully sorry, but I need to cancel this because of the paying problem,” the New York Daily News quoted the unidentified bidder as saying in the email.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the widow’s representative has since emailed the 11 other bidders who bid at least 4.5 million dollars, giving them 24 hours to submit new offers.

He said that if the right offer is not made, he and Poncher might look for another way to sell the crypt.

EBay had been vetting the bidders and cancelled several offers that appeared fraudulent, leaving 21 final bids.

The auction posting revealed that Poncher’s late husband was buried face down, looking at Monroe, when he died 23 years ago at age 81. (ANI)

Burial vault above Monroe’s remains fetches $4.6M

London, Aug 25 (ANI): The burial vault just above the space where Marilyn Monroe lays has fetched 4.6million dollars to a widow in need.

Twenty offers, starting at 500,000 dollars, were received for the space, the BBC reports.

Richard Poncher died 23 years ago, and was buried right above the remains of the Hollywood film star, located in the Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles.

And his widow Elsie Poncher has now sold the space to pay her off the mortgage on her Beverly Hills home, according to the Los Angeles Times.

She has said that the remains of her husband will be moved sideways to a neighbouring plot to make room for the new occupant.

The auction was conducted through eBay, but the buyer has not revealed his identity, except for using the initials OS to take part in the bid.

The advert on the site read: “Spend eternity directly above Marilyn Monroe.”

Celebrities like Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Truman Capote, and Farrah Fawcett are buried in the same park. (ANI)

Monroe’s ‘curve-enhancing 1950s-style Wonderbra’ up for grabs

London, July 16 (ANI): Marilyn Monroe’s perfect hourglass figure made her a worldwide sensation but her famous curves were not all natural – they were enhanced by a 1950s version of a Wonderbra, which enhanced her cleavage, boosted her cup size and added more than an inch to her bust measurement.

And now, the bra that belonged to the Hollywood siren is going up for auction.

The brassiere was able to work its magic because it had under-wiring and four cups, an inner pair to hold her breasts and an outer pair an inch in front of the real ones to enhance her bust, reports The Times.

It is believed that the bra, or one very similar, was worn in The Seven Year Itch, when Monroe appeared in a white halterneck dress. The straps would have been concealed beneath the halter.

The cream and ivory-coloured bra was part of the wardrobe of Monroe’s clothes sold in Hollywood in 2005. It is being auctioned in London on Saturday, when it is expected to fetch around 2,000 pounds.

Katie Halford, a designer for the vintage lingerie firm What Katie Did, said the style was known as a “fling” bra, and added: “They were a bit naughty. They were worn by strippers and burlesque artists in the 1940s and 1950s. Marilyn Monroe didn’t like wearing underwear and, if she could get away with it, she wouldn’t wear any.

“It would have given her breasts extra support and uplift and left her nipples exposed.

“It would have given the impression that she had very good and perfectly positioned breasts, while making it appear she wasn’t wearing a bra at all, and because it is a bit padded, it would have made her breasts look a bit bigger.” (ANI)

Women going blonde to boost confidence amid recession woes!

Melbourne, July 2 (ANI): In an interesting development, women are colouring their hair blonde in a bid to boost their confidence levels to beat recession woes, suggests a new survey.

According to the UK poll of 1200 women, sales of blonde products have skyrocketed to a staggering 67 per cent since the credit crunch hit the world.

Brisbane hairdresser and fashion industry stylist Oscar Cullinan said that Australian women were hoping to procure or keep jobs while believing in the popular images of blondes, exemplified by stars from Marilyn Monroe to Paris Hilton, as being sexy, extroverted, and spontaneous.

“Going blonde is a guaranteed way for a woman to feel like a million dollars even during a credit crisis. We are definitely noticing an increase in the demand for blonde in all of our salons,” News.com.au quoted the owner of the Oscars Hair Studios chain as saying.

2008 Australian Hairdresser of the Year Jayne Wild of Wild Life Hair also said: “It’s a regular thing that they can do to feel good about themselves. Women are coming in getting their hair cut short or completely changing their hair colour. They’re still concentrating on their hair.”

Sydneysider Nicole Bowen, 18, appeared to have upheld the belief, saying her going blonde might have lent a helping hand in landing her the job of a receptionist.
She said: “I think (going blonde) makes people seem less threatening and a lot more comfortable to approach. You always hear that blondes are friendlier. I feel confident with all colours of hair but for some reason I always feel that when I’m blonde I get an extra boost than just the dull feeling being brunette gives me.” (ANI)
