Bushrangers wrap up big Shield win

Victoria has cemented its standing as the powerhouse of Australian domestic cricket by capping an outstanding season with back-to-back Sheffield Shield titles for the first time in three decades.

The Bushrangers thrashed Queensland by 457 runs in the final at the MCG by bowling the Bulls out for 182 in their second innings.

The Vics were assured of the title entering the fifth day given they only needed a draw and had set the visitors 640 to win, but Cameron White’s side was keen to better last season’s final, when the Bulls held out for a draw.

Leg spinner Bryce McGain (4 for 70) and paceman John Hastings (3 for 25) capped a great performance by Victoria, which was a precarious 6 for 75 on day one.

The Vics called on the mantra imposed by the late coach David Hookes by winning from any position, as during the match they fought back through Matthew Wade’s 96, took a first-innings lead of 48 runs and then batted Queensland out of the game.

Victoria’s title was its 28th overall and capped a superb season of dominance in what is regarded as the strongest domestic competition in the world.

The Vics reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in India last year, won the domestic Twenty20 title, dominated the Shield season, but lost the one-day final to Tasmania.

All that came despite regular absences of key players through injury, national call-ups and the retirements of Brad Hodge and Dirk Nannes from first-class ranks.

Given Hodge, Nannes, Peter Siddle, Chris Rogers and Clint McKay all watched the final from afar, White said the campaign highlighted Victoria’s depth of talent.

“It’s a very good effort, it shows the depth of the squad, the depth of the fast-bowling department and the skill of the batsmen,” he said.

“It’s a credit to the group that they’ve been able to start in September and hold their form the whole way through.

“[We had] a little bit of a down spot through a few one-day losses, but you look across the board and we’ve played a hell of a lot of games and we’ve won more than we’ve lost.”

White said Victoria’s strength was its evenness, as it got strong contributions from a large group.

David Hussey’s 168 in the second innings gave him a competition-high 970 runs, Damien Wright took 35 wickets in six games, Wade earned the man-of-the-match award in the final after a great season with gloves and bat, and all-rounder John Hastings and batsman Aaron Finch had breakthrough seasons.

Queensland’s defeat, which included a late collapse of 5 for 27, was the biggest in a fourth-innings run-chase in a Shield final, and skipper Chris Simpson was disappointed by the limited resistance.

“All year our heart and our determination has never been questioned, not that it was today, but we owed it to ourselves to bat the day out,” he said.

Simpson credited Wade for his vital innings, but rued dropped catches on day one and admitted his day-one decision to bowl leg spinner Cameron Boyce did not work, as it did not reap the wickets needed.

Abramovich backs UEFA to rein in Man City spending power

London, Aug. 28 (ANI): Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is backing UEFA to crack down on Manchester City’s spending power – because he does not want to flash any more cash himself.

According to The Sun, UEFA president Michel Platini has vowed that any club that does not break even in the next three years will be kicked out of uropean competitions.

Abramovich, who has spent 700 million pounds on the Blues in six years, but no longer wants to pour his fortune into the club, is spurring Platini on.

And, he does not want anyone to forge ahead of Chelsea either.

City have spent 120 million pounds in this transfer window alone in a bid to gatecrash Europe’s top table compared to Chelsea’s 23 million pounds.

But UEFA has adopted the mantra of ‘financial fair play’ in a bid to make the European game a more level playing field.

Platini is proposing clubs can only spend what they earn in football revenues.

He said: “I have met with Abramovich, who is a football person and passionate about the game. He said that we must do something about this. It doesn’t matter if one team doesn’t agree, because this is what the clubs want.” (ANI)

Nawaz Sharif’s mantra to make traffic jams history!

Islamabad, Aug.22 (ANI): Things can be sorted out with amazing ease in Pakistan by just making a call to the higher authorities, but yes, for raising a storm in the country’s officialdom one needs to possess power. The more the power one has, the sooner his voice is heard in the country.

This was proved recently when former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family were stuck in a traffic jam on bridge connecting Murree and Patriata in the Punjab province.

Angered by the inadequate ‘arrangements’ made for his movement, Sharif called the chief secretary of the province, who in turn sent his subordinates to clear the traffic jam. After that things moved with astonishing speed on that stretch of the road.

A day later nearly 30 traffic officials were suspended for dereliction of duty and failing to provide smooth passage to the former premier, who also happens to be chief minister’s elder brother.

According to a Dawn editorial, it is the kind of influence that the PML-N chief exerts in the world of politics and officialdom.

Without that influence, Sharif’s car would have been stuck indefinitely in the traffic mess, the editorial said.

The editorial warned that the ‘bloody revolution’ that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif often warns of, may indeed be witnessed if the powerful continue to flaunt their influence and ordinary citizens continue seething inside with anger.

Shahbaz Sharif should see that this trend doesn’t continues for long and empower ordinary citizens so that their voice can be heard too, it concluded. (ANI)

Bangalore prays to ward off swine flu virus

Bangalore, Aug 20 (ANI): Residents belonging to the Jain community in Bangalore organised special prayers to invoke divine intervention to ward off the swine flu virus.

One of the renowned surgeons of Bangalore, Dr. Sunita Aggarwal along with her medical and family friends organised a continuous enchantment of ‘Navakar Mantra’ at her clinic.

The prayers were held continuously for 24 hours on Wednesday.

According to their belief, the purpose behind chanting the ‘Navakar Mantra’ is to ward off the virus with divine intervention as the HINI virus claimed lives in the country while the medical frontiers are still struggling with the situation.

During the prayers, people wore similar cloth masks, which are actually worn by the Jain sects for covering their mouth and nose to avoid inadvertently harming insects or microbes by inhaling them.

“The Jains have used this to a great advantage. We are trying to inculcate that same message through the Jain’s community. The ‘Navakar Mantra’ itself is such simple mantra and they have such a deep belief that this mantra can completely throw away all your problems,” said Dr. Aggarwal.

India recorded its first H1N1 case in Hyderabad in May and since then the virus has spread across the country with dozens of cases from Pune.

Bangalore has reported five deaths out of the country’s toll of 28. (ANI)

Advani casts his vote in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Apr 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani cast his vote in Gandhinagar on Thursday.

“The NDA will emerge as the largest coalition in the country. The people will vote for the NDA only,” Advani said after casting his vote.
Advani will be seeking a fifth term from Gandhinagar after his victory from this constituency in 1991, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

His main rivals are Congress nominee Suresh Patel and noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, who is making her electoral debut as an independent. Patel is Congress MLA from Kalol for the second time.

Sarabhai said she would continue her fight for the basic rights of people irrespective of the election outcome.

“Whatever the results be, we are going to fight tooth and nail so that the people of this country have the fundamental rights that they have been guaranteed 62 years ago and that they don’t even have today. We talk about red herrings like Internet connectivity, when people don’t have drinking water and when they don’t have a toilet. What Internet connectivity are we talking about?” Sarabhai asked.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said high voter turnout in the state would help their cause.

“I hope that polling would be high and good. It seems that people would vote before lunch. It seems that the mantra given by us yesterday ‘first voting, then household work’ seems to be working here,” he said.

How to spice up love life – the Sensate Focus Sex way

Washington, Apr 28 (ANI): Bored with your sex life? Well, then sensate-focused sex is the name of the game for you.

The nice, slow lovemaking where all you do is focus on your sensations, is the new mantra to renew your sex life as you rediscover each other.

Sensate-focused sex exercises involve a series of behavioural practices, which offer variety and increased personal awareness through basic touch.

Originally developed by sex researchers Drs. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, sensate focus exercises involve each partner paying increased attention to their own sensations when stimulated.

Particularly for couples in sex therapy, the exercises have helped lovers to overcome issues like performance anxiety, rapid ejaculation, lack of orgasm and erectile dysfunction.

The benefits of sensate focus include, discovering new types of touch, spine-tingling sensations, increased comfort with physical intimacy, better awareness of your lover’s body, as well as your own.

Apart from these, going for such exercises can help couples to strengthen their relationship, and also guarantees no fear of failure, better sex communication, and heightened sexual excitement.

With such non-demands and pleasuring exercises, couples do not make sex goal-oriented, instead, they enjoy the experience of being with one another, touching and feeling each other’s bodies.

These highly structured touch activities are about enjoying physical contact to the fullest without trying to arouse each other and should not be mistaken as a form of foreplay, because it is the main experience in itself.

Done in several stages over time, they are tailor-made to a couple’s specific issues when working with a sex therapist, reports Fox News.

Couples in therapy are usually advised to abstain from having intercourse while focusing on the physical sensations triggered during sensate play.

This not only alleviates anxiety and mental distractions that lead to sexual difficulties, but also offer up a greater awareness of the wide range of stimuli that encompass all of the senses.

The rules for sensate focus sex are:

1. Breasts and genitals are off limits for the first few sessions.

2. Verbal feedback is limited unless you’re uncomfortable or in pain.

3. Do not try to elicit sexual response (but don’t sweat it if it happens).

4. After each session, be sure to process the experience.

When pursuing sensate focus exercises, set aside at least 60 uninterrupted minutes in a warm bedroom and one may even enhance the setting with soothing music and candles.

If it helps, take a bath (or anything else that relaxes you). Take your time, over several “dates,” and finally get on with the sessions.

Sensate focus sex could establish new ways of relating to each other and partners may find themselves having some of the best sex of their lives.

The details of sensate focus sex make part of the book ‘Touch Me There! A Hands-On Guide to Your Orgasmic Hot Spots,’ by Dr. Yvonne K. Fulbright, who is a sex educator, relationship expert, columnist and founder of Sexuality Source Inc. (ANI)
