How transcendental meditation can prevent war and terrorism

Washington, March 23 (ANI): A new research paper has pointed how militaries worldwide could use the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program, founded by Indian spiritual guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, as a non-religious and scientifically verified way to prevent war and terrorism.

When used in a military context, these meditation practices are known as Invincible Defense Technology (IDT).

The research paper describes the concept of a “Prevention Wing of the Military,” a group of military personnel that practices the advanced TM-Sidhi program twice daily as a group.

A group that reaches a critical threshold in size has been scientifically shown to reduce collective societal stress.

The paper hypothesizes that war, terrorism, and crime are caused by collective societal stress.

The absence of collective stress translates into the absence of tension between countries, between religious groups, or even within individual terrorists.

The paper proposes that, by applying this non-lethal and non-destructive technology, any military can reduce societal stress and prevent enemies from arising.

If IDT prevents the emergence of enemies, the military has no one to fight, so the nation becomes invincible.

Over 50 scientific studies have found that when 1percent of a given population practices Transcendental Meditation, or when sufficiently large groups practice the TM-Sidhi program together twice daily, measurable positive changes take place throughout society as a whole.

The studies show decreased violence, crime, car accidents, and suicides, and improved quality of life in society.

The paper reviews IDT research, such as a study published in the Yale University-edited Journal of Conflict Resolution showing that an intervention by a civilian group in Israel resulted in a 76 percent reduction in war deaths in neighboring Lebanon.

Seven subsequent, consecutive experiments over a two-year period during the peak of the Lebanon war found that war-related fatalities decreased by 71 percent, war-related injuries fell by 68 percent, the level of conflict dropped by 48 percent, and cooperation among antagonists increased by 66 percent.

A follow-up study published in the Journal of Social Behavior and Personality found that the likelihood that these combined results were due to chance is less than one in a quintillion.

A global-scale study published in the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation documented a 72 percent drop in international terrorism when IDT groups were large enough to affect the global population.

According to David R. Leffler, the research paper””s author, “This new approach, derived from the ancient Vedic tradition of India, is supported by over 50 scientific studies. IDT can create victory before war, and can assist in peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding.” (ANI)

Banish the cell phone, says ‘baba’ MP

New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) The ubiquitous cell phone is the epitome of all evil that would bedevil your sex life, damage your brain and make you a liar! That is the view of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Lok Sabha MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani, once a Maoist guerrilla and now a saffron-clad ‘baba’.

The MP from Bhubaneswar, who holds a mace even inside the house and is married with three children, advises young boys and girls to banish the mobile phone from their lives because even one year of its use could be harmful.

‘I have seen young boys and girls using the mobile phone for hours for romantic chat. If you continue this for one year… you will fail at the time of having sex,’ Patasani told IANS.

That’s not all.

‘Continuous usage of mobile phone will cause damage to the brain. Its radiation is harmful and it causes sexual problems,’ said Patasani, a renowned Oriya poet who spent some time in the Himalayas in the 1970s.

‘Don’t keep it in your pocket. Its radiation will harm your heart and other organs,’ said the man who was an Orissa cabinet minister in 1990-95.

Patasani says proudly that he refused to accept a mobile provided to all MPs from parliament.

Labelling it an ‘instrument of liar’ and a ‘time killing’ instrument, he said: ‘I have not taken it because of these scientific reasons.’

People carrying mobile phones, he went on, are compelled to lie to their family members and bosses when asked about their whereabouts.

‘So, it is an instrument of liar,’ said the MP, who studied in Singapore.

He said he meditated for more than eight years in a cave in Himalayas after accepting Maharshi Mahesh Yogi as his guru. He went underground after the then Congress government slapped the Maintenance of Internal Security Act on him for associating with Naxalites.

Patasani, who is president of more than 50 educational institutions and organisations, was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1998. He served as a legislator in the Orissa assembly for 18 years, from 1980 to 1998.

He has travelled to more than 100 countries and delivered a speech on various subjects, including on yoga and transcendental meditation.

Macca, Ringo Starr reunite for meditation charity concert

London, Apr 6 (ANI): Former ‘The Beatles’ members Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited for a concert on April 4, to raise money for a meditation charity.

McCartney headlined the show at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall as part of The David Lynch Foundation’s ‘Change Begins Within’ concert in aid of Transcendental Meditation.

Both stars became avid meditators in 1967 after The Beatles’ trip to India, where they sought spiritual guidance from guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

McCartney was keen to tell the audience how the Eastern relaxation method could change people for the better.

“It started for us when we met the Maharishi in India and it’s going to get bigger and bigger and rule the world,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

McCartney sang a couple of solos and Beatles hits before he brought Starr on stage.

Macca, Ringo Starr reunite to teach youngsters meditation

London, April 2 (ANI): Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will come together on stage to teach meditation to youngsters.

The surviving Beatles will be seen in a live Internet broadcast from New York on April 3 to promote the spiritual method amongst young people.

The legendary musicians had journeyed to India with their band mates in 1967 to learn transcendental meditation from their then guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

But according to Fab Four biographer Keith Badman, the pair was said to be less enthusiastic than their fellow rockers George Harrison and John Lennon.

“Ringo left early, basically because he hated the food. Paul followed,” the Daily Express quoted Badman as saying.

“Ironically, it was John and George who were most keen on meditation,” he added. (ANI)
