Hindus upset over trivialization of their gods in an Hollywood TV episode

Nevada(US), Apr 24 (ANI): Hindus are upset over the depiction of their gods in “Hammer of the Gods” episode in the “Supernatural” TV series reportedly aired on April 22 and say that such trivialization of their sacred deities was disturbing.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Lord Ganesh and Goddess Kali were highly revered in Hinduism and such absurd depiction of them with no scriptural backing was hurtful to the devotees. Ganesh and Kali were meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to be thrown around loosely in reimagined versions for dramatic effects in TV series.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, asked the producer EW Network and director Rick Bota to issue a public apology and urged them not to reimagine Hinduism concepts and deities in the future to advance the commercial or other agenda.

Hindus welcomed Hollywood and other entertainment industries to immerse in Hinduism but taking it seriously and respectfully and not just for indecorous showing of Hindu symbols and concepts to advance their selfish agenda. Casual flirting sometimes resulted in pillaging serious spiritual doctrines and revered symbols and hurting the devotees, Rajan Zed pointed out.

Zed argued that Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken lightly. No faith, larger or smaller, should be ridiculed at; Zed said and added that inappropriate use of Hinduism concepts and symbols was not okay.

Meanwhile Bhavna Shinde of Forum for Hindu Awakening has described it as inappropriate and denigration and a Hindu leader of Trinidad Devant Maharaj said that he was deeply offended.

According to reports, in this episode, Winchesters are shown kidnapped by a group of gods, including Ganesh and Kali and held hostage, who want to use Winchesters as bargaining chips. Kali is relegated to escaping with Winchesters in their car to get away. Kali sits on the lap of angel Gabriel who guards her with his angelic blade. Devil turns Ganesh into a stain on the wall. Its cast includes Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Rekha Sharma, Keith Dallas, etc.

Supernatural is a series of CW Network which was formed as a joint venture between Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS Corporation. The CW is America”s fifth broadcast network and claims to be the only network targeting women 18-34.

In Hinduism, Lord Ganesh is worshipped as god of wisdom and remover of obstacles and is invoked before the beginning of any major venture. Goddess Kali, who personifies Sakti or divine energy, is considered the goddess of time and change. (ANI)

Lucknow police raid more places to uncover illegal blood racket

Lucknow, Aug 25 (ANI): Lucknow police has raided a private hospital here and recovered a few packets of illegal blood.

“We have found two-three packets of blood. We have also recovered equipments used to collect blood. Nobody is present here for interrogation at present,” said Sunil Pal, Inspector, Sarojni Nagar, Lucknow.

On August 22, six persons allegedly involved in running a blood racket were arrested from the city.

At least 70 pouches containing blood along with plasma, empty pouches, syringes and fake stamps, stickers and authority letters of the Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University were recovered from the possession of the accused on August 22.

Police is probing over a dozen private-run nursing homes and pathology labs involved in trafficking illegal blood.

Trading in blood or organs is illegal in India. While organs can be obtained only by donation, blood can be voluntarily bartered or bought from registered blood banks. Blood banks are regulated by the government as many unscrupulous dealers fleece poor people, buying blood and paying them only a paltry sum. (ANI)

Drought-hit farmers of Jharkhand village migrate in search of jobs

Nakta village (Jharkhand), Aug 25 (ANI): Farmers in drought-hit Nakta village of Jharkhand are forced to migrate to cities in search of jobs as they are left with damaged crops due to prolonged drought.

“Our paddy and corn crop have been damaged due to drought. Some of us could not sow paddy in time. Our children are dying of hunger. We don’t have any work here. In such a situation won’t we look for a job elsewhere? That’s why we are migrating,” said Maharaj Singh, a villager.

The villagers, mainly women, children and elderly, who are left behind in the village, are surviving on green leaves, wild edible roots and nuts.

Some of the villagers admitted that authorities did come to the village to distribute free grains to those living below the poverty line (BPL), but they complained that most of them did not get grains, as they did not have the BPL cards.

“We don’t have money. We eat once in three days. We are eating wild greens, edible roots and nuts,” said Puniya Devi, a villager.

The village houses 200 people and only 20 people have the BPL cards. Most of the villagers sell woods for their living, apart from farming. But the villagers say selling wood is not enough and they need employment to earn regular income.

In the absence of any work at the village level, the farmers are going to towns and cities to look for odd jobs.

However, government officials say that the villagers are being provided with 100 days work under the NAREGA scheme (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act).

Sudhanshu Bhushan Ram, Deputy Development Commissioner, Latehar, said the villagers are being provided with all the necessary support and they are migrating out of their choice.

“We are giving employment and issuing job cards to them. They are being paid weekly and in spite of that if people migrate elsewhere on their will how could you stop that?” said Ram. By Girija Shankar Ojha (ANI)

BJP, Shiv Sena remember Lord Rama only during polls: Sonia Gandhi

Marathwada (Maharashtra), Apr 20 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena of taking the country backward and said these parties remember Lord Rama only during elections.

“It is unfortunate that those invoking the name of secular and democratic ruler like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are those who divide people on the basis of region and religion. These people remember Lord Rama only during elections,” Gandhi said while addressing an election rally in Jalana in Marathwada region on Monday.

Gandhi also accused the BJP and the Shiv Sena of being ‘communal and parochial’.

“The new generation is fed up of politics of regionalism, casteism and also criminalisation of politics,” she added.

Gandhi termed the Indo-US nuclear deal as an achievement of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

“The deal was done on our terms but due to opposition, the country’s image tarnished globally,” she added.

Gandhi also criticized the BJP and the Shiv Sena for opposing initiatives of the UPA Government on economic liberlisation.

“These people were opposing us and ridiculing us when we were initiating steps like 33 per cent reservation of women, computerisation and IT revolution,” Gandhi charged.

Gandhi also recalled the Congress-led UPA Government’s achievement during its five-year tenure at the Centre.

“The waiver of Rs. 65,000 crore loan of farmers and providing pension and insurance in unorganised labour sector were the important decisions,” she added.

Meanwhile, addressing a rally in Dondaeecha town of Dhule District, Gandhi slammed BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani for releasing the terrorists during the Kandahar plane hijack episode.

“Perhaps their definition of a strong leader is one who was deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister when there were a series of terror attacks including one on Parliament. Arrested terrorists were released and taken to Kandahar as if they were guests,” Gandhi said. (ANI)

The nine-day ritual being held at the central grounds here commenced on Friday and will conclude on March 21.

Over 400 priests have been performing the rituals amid Vedic chants which reverberate in the entire neighbourhood.

According to head priest Prakharji Maharaj, the ritual would release latent energies of intellectuals and enable them to solve the global recession.

“In the current scenario, there are no means to solve this problem. In this scenario, a Yagna was organised so that the brain’s latent energies are awakened as a result of which many doors will open up to solve this crisis of recession,” said Prakharji Maharaj.

The trading community and the public is also participating in the ritual with outmost devotion.

Some traders have travelled long distances to participate in the event.

“Mahalakshmi Yagna which is being organised for the first time in 25-30 years is considered to be very lucky for the trade and industry, particularly at this is the time of global recession that is why I’m here,” said Jyoti Maniyal from Ahmedabad.

50 pilgrims to reach Pak on Jan. 8 for 300th birth anniversary of Shada Ram

Lahore, Jan 7 (ANI): A delegation of 50 Hindu pilgrims from India will cross the Wagah border into Pakistan on January 8 to attend saint Shada Ram’s 300th birth anniversary at Shadani Darbar in Ghotki, Sindh.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Asif Saeed Hashmi said on Tuesday that Yudhishter Lal Ji Maharaj will lead the pilgrims.

Hashmi said it was the Pakistan government’s policy to facilitate and accommodate the pilgrims in the country.

ETPB Additional Secretary Siddique Khurram said the pilgrims would be provided accommodation and travel facilities.

Shadani Darbar organiser Jai Ram Das said, “It is a mega event in which people from across the world take part. Stage shows and musical programmes will be arranged.”

Every year, Indian pilgrims participate in the festival and also visit various religious places, he said.

According to the legend, Ghulam Shah Kalhoro, the ruler of Sindh, terrorised Hindus in 1700.

Perturbed by his actions, Hindus prayed to Lord Shiva at Mathelo. One night the Sarpanch saw Lord Shiva in his dream. Lord Shiva told him that he had taken birth in the form of ‘Shadaram’ in Lahore and would come to Mathelo for their salvation.

Shada Ram came to Mathelo in 1768 and kindled ‘Dhuni Saheb’ there. When Kalhoro insulted a Hindu widow, Shadaram cursed the ruler, saying that Kalhoro would lose the kingdom.

Shada Ram’s words came true and Kalhoro lost his kingdom and died in misery. After that Shadaram shifted to Hayat Pitafi and laid the foundation of the Shadani Darbar.

Ram Das said Yudhishter Lal was the son of late Gobind Ram. He said 15-year-old Gobind was elevated to Shadani Gaddi on April 4, 1960. (ANI)
