Onions ruled out for three months with back injury

London, May 21(ANI): England fast bowler Graham Onions has been ruled out for up to three months due to a back injury and will now miss the upcoming series against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Onions has been out of action since he was forced to return home from England’s tour of Bangladesh with the injury in March.

The 27-year-old underwent scans on his back earlier this week, which confirmed that the injury was worse than feared.

“I am naturally incredibly disappointed to miss the bulk of the domestic season and am still hopeful that with rest I can be back on the field nearer to the end of the summer,” The Telegraph quoted Onions, as saying.

“The ECB medical team has been very supportive and all I can do is be patient, work hard on my rehabilitation programme and focus on my number one goal which is to be fully fit and available for selection for the Ashes tour to Australia,” he added.

Onions also underwent surgery on Thursday at a London hospital to repair a cartilage in his left knee. (ANI)

Miss India Worldwide UK trying to find pulmonary hypertension cure

London, March 10 (ANI): Beauty and brains come together in the case of recently crowned Miss India Worldwide UK, Niharica Raizada who continues to be engaged with her job in stem cell research at a London hospital.

The 24-year-old, who works at Hammersmith Hospital, believes being beautiful is just not enough.

“Maybe it is the peer pressure in India these days that pushes the women to be acknowledged as smart, independent, highly qualified individuals,” the Telegraph quoted Raizada as saying.

She added: “There is a sense that, having only relatively recently achieved greater parity with the boys, we now have a need to prove ourselves. It is not enough just to be seen to be a beauty or a home maker.” (ANI)

Sir Michael Gambon becomes dad again

London, June 22 (ANI): Harry Potter star Sir Michael Gambon’s mistress Philippa Hart has given birth to the couple’s second child.

The Irish-born actor, who plays Professor Dumbledore in the wizard films, has become a father for the third time at the age of 68.

Gambon is already father to 17-month-old son Michael with set designer Hart and 44-year-old son Fergus with his wife Lady Anne.

“Philippa gave birth at a London hospital without complications and little Michael is a beautiful bouncing baby. It is a very strange set of circumstances worthy of a film script in itself,” the Sun quoted a family friend as saying.

“But Michael is open with his wife and she accepts the second relationship, though there have been rows in the past,” the family friend added.

The actor shares a house with his wife of 45 years in Gravesend, Kent, and often visits Hart in Chiswick, South West London. (ANI)

Joe Cole and Carly Zucker’s £3m wedding

London, June 21 (ANI): Joe Cole and Carly Zucker exchanged wedding vows in a reported 3-million pound wedding.

The football ace, 27, was said to have shelled out the staggering amount for the wedding at London’s Chelsea Royal Hospital.

“Joe was calm and composed throughout,” the News of the World quoted Rev Dick Whittington, who married the lovers, as saying.

The couple had allegedly inked a deal with a magazine for 2 million pounds but pledged to donate the cash to charity.

Carly, 25, was purportedly whisked from her West London home to a secret location so that her dress remained unseen before the wedding.

Richard Attenborough downplays ill health reports

Washington, May 16 (ANI): Lord Richard Attenborough has slammed reports of his ill health, insisting that he has no plans to quit acting in the near future.

The 85-year-old Oscar winner is staying in a London hospital, five months after a fall at his London home left him in a coma.

And now, the veteran star is on the road to recovery, although he recently had to pull out of his role in historical movie ‘Ironclad’ due to health concerns.

However, Attenborough is determined that his film career is not over and he will be back on the big screen as soon as he feels well enough.

“I wish to make it clear that I am very much alive and kicking. To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports regarding the demise of my career have been greatly exaggerated. It remains my intention to take up offers,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying in a statement.

Attenborough was due to play his 74th film role this summer (09), alongside Robert Carlyle, James Purefoy and Pete Postlethwaite. (ANI)

FEATURE: Glamour and curiosity as Obamas have tea with the queen

FEATURE: Glamour and curiosity as Obamas have tea with the queen London – Barack and Michelle Obama went to Buckingham Palace to have tea with Queen Elizabeth II Wednesday after the US President declared himself to be a fan of the 82-year-old monarch.

“There is one thing I should mention that I love about Great Britain and that’s the queen,” said the 47-year-old President hours before his armour-plated limousine pulled up at the palace.

“I think in the imagination of people throughout America, what the queen stands for, her decency and her civility and what she represents is very important.”

The warm words will have been music to the ears of Britain’s royal family, often portrayed at home and abroad as an institution out of touch with modern times.

The Obamas, representing the same generation as the queen’s own children, certainly brought a flair of modernity and excitement to the royal palace.

As the presidential motorcade rolled up, the BBC played “You’ll be my American Boy, American Boy,” by US singer Estelle.

Michelle Obama, wearing a dramatic monochrome outfit of a full black skirt, white scoop-neck top and flowing black satin coat, said “Hi” and Hello” as she entered the palace with her husband.

The queen, wearing a bright salmon pink dress, smiled warmly as she shook hands with the US couple, who were towering over the much smaller monarch.

She listended attentively to the US President’s account of his high-profile political meetings with world leaders during the day – crowned by the palace reception.

Hundreds of curious onlookers waited behind barriers in the evening sunshine to see the couple arrive, with adults and children taking snapshots of the bullet-proof limousine, known as the Beast.

“She is a lovely lady, she can talk to anyone,” said a British woman who had watched Michelle Obama during an earlier visit to the cancer unit off a London hospital.

After their relaxed 20-minute chat on sofas in the palace’s private rooms, the couple emerged smiling to pose for a photograph with the queen, and her husband, 87-year-old Prince Philip.

During the queen’s 57-year reign there have been 12 US presidents. With the exception of Lyndon B Johnson, she has met them all.

But even for someone as skilled and experienced as the queen – when it comes to protocol and entertaining – the evening proved testing.

For while she had her chat with the Obamas, limousines carrying heads of states and governments from around the world pulled up at short intervals at the palace for a reception of G20 participants.

Guests at the royal event included the leaders of Russia, India, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and China, as well as Ban Ki-moon, the head of the United Nations.

Palace staff served canapes, wine, Champagne and soft drinks as the monarch mingled among her guests, making sure that she exchanged a few words with each one of them before her array of colourful guests bid their courteous farewells. (dpa)

Goody’s sons celebrate early Mother’s Day with dying mum

London, March 16 (ANI): Jade Goody’s sons brought flowers for their cancer-stricken mum in what could be one of their last visits as she gradually nears her end.

Five-year-old Bobby and four-year-old Freddie visited the 27-year-old, who has just few hours to live after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, to spend time together as part of an early Mother’s Day celebration.

In a touching moment, the little pair held onto their mum’s hand as weak Jade fell asleep after being heavily sedated to lessen her shooting pains.

“The boys went to see her and she was aware of them for a brief moment or two. She saw them and she smiled,” the Sun quoted her spokesman Max Clifford as saying.

“She has put her house in order and faced up to everything in an incredibly brave way. Now we’re waiting for the inevitable. It could be at any time, we just don’t know,” he added.

Jade had pleaded doctors at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital to let her return to her house in Upshire, Essex, so that she could spend her final days with her beloved lads.

Her worsening condition had left medics to fear that she could slip away any time.

She had then told her kids that she would be looking over them as a bright star up in the sky.

She had said: “Mummy’s going to heaven soon. I’m going to be a star up in the sky, so when you are looking up you will be able to see me and know I’m there, always looking over you.”

And when innocent little Freddie asked: “Why are you so sleepy?”

The brave mum replied: “Because the angels are calling Mummy.” (ANI)

The former Big Brother star was ‘overjoyed’ as she saw Bobby, five, and Freddie, four, run smiling up to her bedside at home.

The 27-year-old, who has been given just weeks to live, also spent just her second night with husband Jack Tweed since they tied the knot last month – after officials lifted his curfew.

“She had a great time. Freddie read his school book to her. The boys were brave. They did really well,” the Sun quoted Goody’s mother Jackiey, as saying.

Goody had not seen her sons since the weekend they were christened alongside her at the chapel in London’s Royal Marsden Hospital.

“She’s really been looking forward to seeing them. That’s why she wanted to leave hospital,” Jackiey said.

Goody’s rep Max Clifford said: “The most important thing for her is that she spends the time she’s got left surrounded by her children, her mum and her husband.” (ANI)

Jade Goody ‘still hasn’t told her kids she’s dying’

London, Mar 8 (ANI): Cancer-stricken Jade Goody, who has been given just weeks to live, has still not told her children she is going to die, it has emerged.

The former Big brother star’s hubby Jack Tweed have been discussing with grief counsellors how to deliver the news to Bobby, five, and Freddie, four.

“They do not know how bad their mum is,” News of the World quoted Goody’s spokesman Max Clifford, as saying.

“They know she is very ill but that is something that has to be handled very delicately,” he added.

Meanwhile, the reality TV star and her two beloved boys have been christened.

A small group of close family and friends sobbed at the emotional service in the chapel at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital.

The touching ceremony was attended by Tweed, TV presenter Jeff Brazier-the father of her sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, four-and her mother Jackiey Budden. (ANI)
