Mel Gibson will work in this town again

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – The death of Mel Gibson’s career has been greatly exaggerated.

Sure, a fresh wave of obituaries was to be expected in the wake of a string of contretemps that jolted even the most jaded observers of our scandal-saturated mediasphere.

At the end of a week that saw a new low in the never-ending tailspin that is the life of Lindsay Lohan, Gibson’s misdeeds seem to have dug him a level of hell so low that there’s no coming back.

But even as battered and broken as his exquisitely tortured Jesus in “The Passion of the Christ,” Gibson will rise again.

In an industry where the newly freed Roman Polanski has his share of prominent, vocal supporters and in a country that loves nothing more than restoring public figures to the pedestals from which they fell, count on a Gibson comeback.

It’s not going to happen anytime soon, of course. That would be unseemly in the state of high dudgeon Hollywood currently finds itself. William Morris Endeavor Entertainment’s decision to drop Gibson as a client ensures no one will touch him with a 10-foot pole, as one studio chief put it.

But in time, those doors will open again. Maybe doors not as gilded as WME’s, but doors just the same. Because for every principled power broker like Ari Emanuel, there will be five others who will eventually extend themselves not in gracious appreciation of human frailty, but because there is money to be made.

Not that Gibson even needs the Hollywood machine to get back on his feet. Let’s not forget he is not just an actor, but an auteur and mogul who already proved with “Passion” he is capable of succeeding quite brilliantly outside the system.

But whether he soldiers on by himself or with help from Hollywood, it’s the public that will ultimately determine Gibson’s prospects. And while in the heat of his latest controversies that seems improbable, taking a long view of celebrity history provides ample evidence that just isn’t the case.

Is any famous individual’s career ever truly over? No one is done; “done” is just another way of saying the comeback hasn’t started yet.

Tiger Woods is back on the tour. Charlie Sheen got a raise. Eliot Spitzer is getting a show on CNN. The list goes on, and what’s more, the duration from disgrace to saving face seems to be shrinking.

Of course, none of these gentlemen had their misdeeds recorded, which tends to amplify the impact. But even that is surmountable. Christian Bale still works even though his on-set tirade probably made everyone in Hollywood think twice about hiring him.

And let’s not forget that another distasteful phone recording made in the heat of a bitter custody dispute — between Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger — yielded a voicemail of a father calling his daughter a pig. But three years later, Baldwin was co-hosting the Oscars.

Of course, Gibson may be guilty of much more than Baldwin. But he will eventually return to mainstream film not in spite of all that, but because of it. Both the industry and our media culture love a redemption story, and the lower Gibson sinks, the more dramatic his third act is going to be.

Does that mean we’re excusing his misdeeds? Gibson’s story will likely give us the same conscience-lifting out he provided us when he first got into trouble in 2006: alcoholism. Whether substance abuse of any kind is truly a problem for Gibson or not, admitting to addiction will offer absolution. Domestic violence and racism can be chalked up to “sickness.” All those repeat offenses? Those become “relapses.”

If Gibson’s camp can frame his story as the plight of addiction, then comes forgiveness, or more likely, forgetting. As bad as things look now for Gibson, in time his misdeeds will fade into the rich tapestry of misbehavior woven by the pantheon of American celebrities. Given the frequency with which celebrity scandal is reported, you cannot underestimate how numb the public is to all of this.

All we ask of our fallen stars is that they do a TV interview or two that allows us to watch them squirm. Just look at another star tainted by accusations of domestic violence, Chris Brown. He’s made repeated, often awkward attempts to worm his way back into the hearts of his fans, and he inches closer every time.

The movies Gibson has already made, “The Beaver” and “How I Spent My Summer Vacation,” may gather dust before a distributor will touch them, but is it out of the question that they will make it to theaters? The moral decency that keeps them on the shelf in the short term will curdle into marketable curiosity in the long term.

Then maybe Gibson will take small parts in films that remind us of how terrific an actor he was. Or self-finance a film that reminds he wasn’t too shabby behind the camera, either. When your career has reached the heights that Gibson’s has, there’s no depths so low from which he can’t bounce back.

Tarnished? Gibson will be forever. Finished? Don’t bet on it.

Lindsay Lohan’s drinking leads to near arrest

(Reuters) – A judge on Tuesday issued a new arrest warrant for Lindsay Lohan that was quickly revoked in fast-changing set of events after the troubled actress’s court-ordered alcohol bracelet detected she had been drinking.

Entertainment | People

The warrant was recalled when Lohan’s representatives posted a portion of a new $200,000 bail amount after the actress was ordered by a judge to forfeit her original $100,000 bail on a 2007 drunken driving charge.

The new measures were taken after Judge Marsha Revel summoned prosecutors and Lohan’s lawyer to an emergency meeting in her Beverly Hills court Tuesday afternoon.

Revel said a report from the alcohol monitoring ankle device that she ordered Lohan to wear on May 24 had detected an infringement of the ban on drinking and drugs imposed on the actress.

“She was in violation of the conditions of her bail, so her bail is forfeited,” Revel said after the meeting. She set the new bail based on five counts of violating probation. Lohan is due back in court on July 6 where she risks being sentenced to jail time.

Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, said in a statement that ankle bracelet “indicated the presense of a small amount of alcohol on Sunday night.”

Holley said she only recently received the report herself and could not “speak to its accuracy or validity, however Ms. Lohan maintains that she has been in complete compliance with all of the terms of her probation and her bail.”

Indeed, Lohan took to her Twitter early on Tuesday saying the bracelet, called a SCRAM device, could not have been set off, and she blamed the tabloids and paparazzi for fomenting speculation.

“My scram wasn’t set off-it’s physically impossible considering I’ve nothing for it to go off-All of these false reports are absolutely wrong,” Lohan, 23, said in Tweet on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, reports citing unnamed sources surfaced saying the actress was drinking alcohol after Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards.

In 2007, the 23-year-old was charged with reckless driving, drunken driving, and driving under the influence of cocaine. She was sentenced to probation and mandatory alcohol education classes.

Last month, Lohan missed a date in Judge Revel’s courtroom because she said her passport had been stolen while she was at the Cannes film festival in France.

Judge Revel, saying Lohan had missed some of her classes, issued an arrest warrant in May that was also recalled after Lohan’s representatives posted bail.

She also ordered the “Mean Girls” actress to undergo random drug and alcohol tests, and had her ankle fitted with the SCRAM monitoring bracelet.

Lohan rose to fame in Disney movies such as “Freaky Friday” and as a teenager was considered one of Hollywood’s best young actresses. But in recent years, her hard-partying ways have led to trouble and her career has stumbled.

Lindsay Lohan wants to be appreciated for her acting, not body

Wellington, June 4 (ANI): ‘Mean Girls’ star Lindsay Lohan has revealed that she would never star in ‘Transformers’ as she wants to be appreciated for her acting and not her body.

Lohan, 23, had been rumoured to be in the running to replace Megan Fox in the third film in the action series, but the role ended up going to Victoria”s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

“it’s just not my kinda movie- but it’s also a type cast situation- hot chick in short shorts, daisy duke situation, right??? (sic),” Stuff.co.nz quoted her as writing on her Twitter page when a fan asked why she hadn’t accepted the role.

Meanwhile, the actress is currently recovering from having her wisdom teeth extracted earlier this week. She is still in agony after the operation, and says her face is so swollen she looks like a chipmunk. (ANI)

LiLo makes bail for missed court hearing, avoids jail

New York, May 21 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan, who was issued a warrant for missing a mandatory court hearing, escaped an arrest by making bail.

Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said a bond was posted for the 23-year-old but her lawyers preemptively handled the troubled starlet’s bail.

The “Mean Girls” actress had made an excuse of not being able to attend the court hearing because she had lost her passport in France at the Cannes Festival.

Earlier, Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel had lashed out at Lohan — ordering her to cough up 100,000 dollars to stay out of jail and submit to stringent drug and booze testing, reports the New York Post.

“If she wanted to be here, she could have been here,’’ said Revel, who ordered Lohan to steer clear of all alcohol and booze once she touches down on US soil. ‘‘She was ordered to be here — and she”s not here.’’

The judge has issued an order that Lohan will have to wear a booze-sensing ankle bracelet and submit to weekly, random drug tests, as soon as she makes bail.

‘‘If they can do it more often [than once a week] fine,’’ Revel said.

Although Lilo’s lawyer stuck by her, she admitted she wasn’t aware of her travel plans.

“She has a life as an actress,”” Shawn Chapman Holley said. “She doesn’t consult with me with what she has to do with her business.”

LA County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said bench warrants like the one handed down by Revel are typically enforced when the fugitive is busted for another crime such as a traffic stop.

‘‘She will be treated just like everyone else who is entered into the system for a warrant, a bail of 100,000 dollars,’’ he said.

But the lawman wouldn”t rule out the chance that Lohan could be arrested.

‘‘As soon as the person is notified or recognized by law enforcement, that person is subject to immediate arrest,’’ Whitmore said. “That is potentially a possibility.” (ANI)

Is it splitsville for Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper?

New York, May 21 (ANI): Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried have reportedly ended their relationship, days after the Brit actor was seen with Lindsay Lohan at Cannes film festival.

The 24-year-old actress and her British beau, who started dating after meeting on the set of “Mamma Mia” two years ago, have decided to take a break from their long distance relationship, People.com reports.

“Amanda and Dominic have been on and off for a while – and right now they”re taking a break,” the New York Daily News quoted a source as telling the gossip Web site.

The source, however, also revealed that she wouldn’t rule out the possibility of getting back with him in the future.

Cooper, meanwhile, seems to have already moved on. The 31-year-old “History Boys” star was spotted arm-in-waist with Lohan at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. (ANI)

LiLo may land in jail if she misses mandatory court hearing

New York, May 20 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan is expected to miss a mandatory court date this week because the actress is stuck in Cannes.

According to TMZ.com, if the actress misses court hearing this time, she may be sent to jail, reports New York Post.

Sources said that that Lohan claims her passport was stolen this week while she partied at the Cannes Film Festival.

The “Mean Girls” actress, 23, is on a three years” probation completing an alcohol rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to cocaine use and driving under the influence in August 2007.

She attends the rehab course once every 21 days, TMZ reported – enough for her not to be reported, but in direct violation of court orders.

“I was on the phone with Lindsay”s assistant the entire night and we”re doing everything we can to resolve this issue and get her back to L.A,” The New York Post quoted Lohan’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, as telling TMZ.

“Lindsay is distraught because it was her intention to get back to L.A. today to do more alcohol education classes and appear in court tomorrow,” Holley added. (ANI)

LiLo denies new lesbian romance

Washington, May 19 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan has dismissed reports that she has a new lesbian lover.

Celebrity photographer Indrani has told the New York Post that she and the ‘Mean Girls’ star were an item.

Indrani said: “I have never had a relationship with a woman before, but Lindsay is just somebody who I find fascinating, gorgeous and extremely smart, as well as super-hot.”

Also, sources cited several dates and that Indrani had spent the night at Lohan”s hotel.

However, Lohan has denied all reports linking her to Indrani.

“No, no, no… In NO way am I dating her,” the Fox News quoted her, as telling Us Weekly.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the two posed for a steamy photo shoot on the Mother”s Day.

Abe Gurko of IMeanWhat.com, said: “The mood was amazing. Lindsay and Indrani were cozy at the end of the shoot and snuggling up. There”s definitely a sensual attraction.” (ANI)

Cannes’ LiLo ‘snub’

New York, May 13 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan has been trying to swing a free trip to the Cannes film festival to wrangle money for her new Linda Lovelace biopic, ‘Inferno,’ but no one”s willing to pay for her, it has emerged.

“She”s been asking around, but hasn”t had any takers,” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.

The ‘Mean Girls’ star was well-behaved when she showed up at the Valentino-sponsored fete for the Lincoln Center Institute at the Hudson Hotel this week.

Director Matthew Wilder of the Lovelace flick says: “It”s not something I can imagine that anybody would ever be turned on by, unless they”re really sick.” (ANI)

US firm fights back at LiLo’s $100M lawsuit over ‘milkaholic’ baby ad

Washington, May 12 (ANI): The financial services firm E*trade has struck back against Lindsay Lohan who filed a 100-million-dollar lawsuit against them for allegedly defaming her over an advertisement.

E*Trade”s lawyers filed hundreds of papers in New York”s Nassau County Supreme Court, detailing Lohan”s dalliances with drugs and alcohol, purportedly to prove she lives in Hollywood and not Long Island, where her lawsuit was filed. E*Trade”s aim: to change the court fight from Long Island to Manhattan, where its headquarters is located.

“This is the whole reason we are suing them — for demeaning Lindsay.

“They are just proving how they operate — they play dirty,” ABC News quoted Lohan’s mother, Dina, as telling the New York Post.

Lohan alleged that a “milkaholic” baby girl who appeared in a recent commercial was modeled after her, also named ‘Lindsay’. She claimed that the ad invoked in her “likeness, name, characterization and personality” without permission, violating her right to privacy.

E*Trade”s ad unrolled during the Feb. 7 Super Bowl. In it, a baby boy apologizes to his girlfriend through a video chat for not calling her the night before, saying he was on E*Trade. The camera switches to the girl, who asks suspiciously, “And that milkaholic Lindsay wasn”t over?”

The camera then switches back to the boy, who replies, with apparent unease, “Lindsay?” before another baby girl, presumably Lindsay, moves into the frame and asks, “Milk-a-what?” (ANI)

LiLo denies catfight with Avril

Washington, May 12 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan has denied that she had a fight with Avril Lavigne in Hollywood.

Usmagazine.com quoted New York Post claiming that Lavigne screamed at Lohan saying “Get the hell out of my face, you are fake, you are a loser” at the Chateau Marmont Hotel. “I don”t like false people. Stay away from me and my friends.”

According to the paper, Lohan fumed back, “Don”t threaten me!” before trying unsuccessfully to get security to kick Lavigne out.

But now, Lohan, 23, tells UsMagazine.com, “That is not true.”

“I don”t know why I am such a target, but I think there”s a big misconception of who I am as a person,” she told L.A”s 102.7 KISS-FM. “I”ve just been working a lot, and it”s not a crime to go out and have fun with your friends… I do realize it”s silly of me to give people what they want – to see me out at night.”

Lohan has been involved in other scuffles too. She reportedly threw a drink at ex-girlfriend Sam Ronson at L.A club Trousdale, and was fired last month from ‘The Other Side’ by the director who said they couldn’t secure financing with her in the lead role. (ANI)

LiLo, Avril Lavigne’s bitter feud

New York, May 11 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan has now locked horns with rival starlet Avril Lavigne after the pop star publicly called her a “loser.”

The brawl took place at Hollywood”s Chateau Marmont when Lohan sauntered over to Lavigne to say hello.

“Avril was at a table with friends just over a week ago including her boyfriend, Brody Jenner, when Lindsay came over to say hi.

“But as soon as she approached, Avril launched at her and said: ”Get the hell out of my face, you are fake, you are a loser. I don”t like false people. Stay away from me and my friends.”

“Lindsay was furious and screamed back: ”Don”t threaten me!” She then stormed off to security and tried to get them to kick Avril out. They refused to force Avril to leave. Lindsay eventually stormed off,” The New York Post quoted an eyewitness as saying.

The fight actually started when Lohan snubbed Lavigne earlier at an event.

“It seemed like she was just being friendly to Avril because she was with people Lindsay wanted to impress. Avril is avoiding going to the Chateau Marmont when she knows Lindsay will be there. She doesn”t want any more drama,” the source added. (ANI)

LiLo denies she”s addicted to drink and drugs

London, May 10 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan has hit back at rumours that she”s addicted to drink and drugs.

In a TV interview, the Mean Girls star sat alongside her mum Dina to set the record straight about the recent rumours.

The actress’ estranged father Michael recently claimed that his daughter was hooked on prescription drugs.

However, Lindsay has slammed his claims, insisting she has turned her life around, reports the Sun.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “I””m OK… when did I stop being OK?

“I am fine. I am happy and I am working. And I””m good.

“I””m surrounded by great friends now. You know, I have weeded out a lot of people in my life.

“I don””t (have substance abuse problems). I work. And if I go out with my friends, I””m 23, and I””m allowed to do that. I don””t go out when I””m working,” she added.

She has also blamed false claims about her lifestyle for lack of work.

“It distracts from me getting jobs. That””s when it hurts the most – especially when it””s not true,” she said. (ANI)

LiLo”s £66 million lawsuit meritless, say ad bosses

ondon, May 10 (ANI): Bosses at a financial firm, who have been dragged to court by Lindsay Lohan for allegedly using her name for profit, have labelled the Mean Girls star”s claims “meritless”.

Lohan initiated legal proceedings against chiefs at E-Trade in March over an advert that depicts a baby girl called Lindsay as a boyfriend stealer and a “milkaholic”, reports the Daily Star.

Lohan”s lawyers say the commercial exploits Lohan”s famous first name and public persona without her permission.

Lohan is seeking 66.7 million pounds in damages and compensation over the commercial.

But according to TMZ.com, executives at E-Trade have filed a motion to have the case dismissed and saying Lohan”s claims are “meritless”. (ANI)

Michael Lohan holds off conservatorship bid over Lindsay’s affairs

London, May 7 (ANI): ‘Mean Girls’ star Lindsay Lohan’s father Michael has put his bid to gain legal conservatorship over her affairs on hold as lawyers from both sides try to resolve the case away from court.

In April, Michael had gone public with his plans to ask a judge to place Lindsay under a conservatorship, but he agreed to drop his application if the actress met with him for a serious discussion about her problems.

According to TMZ.com, the actress rejected her dad’s request and failed to meet up on May 5, and now he is planning to temporarily hold off on taking legal action, reports the Daily Star.

The website claims Michael Lohan’s lawyer, Lisa Bloom, had a lengthy telephone conversation with Lindsay’s legal representative, Shawn Chapman Holley, on May 5 in an attempt to reach an agreement over their personal issues without the need for a conservatorship request.

The actress’ father is thought to be holding off on the case until May 20, when Lindsay is due to have a progress hearing over the court-ordered alcohol education classes she is attending.

The meetings are part of her probation after she pleaded guilty to two misdemeanour counts of cocaine use and no contest to drink-driving and reckless driving charges following a 2007 arrest. (ANI)

Now LiLo parties with her bodyguard!

New York, May 7 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan was recently spotted partying with a bodyguard.

The ‘Mean Girls’ star popped into Las Palmas in Los Angeles for a birthday party for Katy Perry sidekick Markus Molinari with a 6-foot, 300-pound bouncer in a T-shirt that read, “Big Monster.”

“Wherever Lindsay went, he went,” the New York Post quoted a spy as saying.

The insider saw the bouncer get surly with a photographer trying to approach the starlet.

In fact, Lindsay’s mom Dina Lohan was also at the party. (ANI)

LiLo on track with her alcohol education course, claims her lawyer

London, May 6(ANI): Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley has slammed an online report that suggests the star has been skipping her alcohol education classes.

The Mean Girls star was punished as a part of her probation after pleading guilty to two counts of cocaine use and no contest to drink driving and reckless driving charges in 2007.

Her probation was extended in 2009 to allow her to complete the court-ordered drug and alcohol education programmes. Her progress was even praised by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel in February this year.

But online reports suggest that she hasn’t been attending classes of late, and sources at school allege that the star has “a bad attitude” towards the probation requirement and “entitlement issues”.

“Ms. Lohan is on track to complete her alcohol programme within the time frame set by the judge, and any classes she missed were made up for,” The Daily Express quoted Holley as telling TMZ.com.

The actress” next progress hearing is due to take place on 20 May (10). (ANI)

LiLo parties hard after $10k Mother”s Day interview

New York, May 4 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan enjoyed late night partying on Sunday after making a quick buck over the weekend.

On Friday, Lohan and her mother, Dina, taped a Mother”s Day-themed segment for ‘Entertainment Tonight.’

And according to sources, Lindsay was paid a whopping 10,000 dollars for the interview.

However, a rep for ET said: “We didn”t pay her a dime.”

Lindsay partied at Juliet in Chelsea Sunday with 10 people, reports the New York Post.

An insider said that the ‘Mean Girls’ star arrived at 3 a.m., ordered beer, vodka and champagne for the table and danced on banquettes. (ANI)

Lindsay Lohan ‘to play Deep Throat porn star’ in Inferno

New York, May 4 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan’s friend, Tyler Shields, has confirmed that the actress has signed up to play the role of Linda Lovelace, the porn star in ‘Deep Throat’, in an indie film.

Last month, rumors made rounds that Lohan, 23, would be portraying Lovelace.

However, Shields is only now confirming the news that she would be playing the role of the porn star in ‘Inferno’, eonline.com reports.

Lohan””s photographer pal said that Matthew Wilder, director of ‘Inferno’, asked him to shoot promos for the film.

Shields is the man behind the controversial photos Lohan recently posted on Twitter of her brandishing a gun.

The images were for his new book, ‘The Dirty Side of Glamour,’ the New York Daily News.

The film will be officially announced at the Cannes film festival, which begins next week. (ANI)

Lindsay Lohan hit with fashion line lawsuit

London, May 3 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan is in trouble yet again – the actress is facing a lawsuit from a photographer who has alleged that he hasn’t been paid for the pictures he took for her fashion line.

As per the papers filed by Snapper Scott Nathan, the photographer claims that he was hired to take photographs of the ‘Mean Girls’ star for her clothing label 6126.

In the papers, obtained by TMZ.com, Nathan also alleged that he had not received the one per cent interest that was promised to him by the fashion line in return for the pictures, reports the Daily Star.

The photographer is also suing Universal Music Group for using one of his photographs for the cover of Lohan’s single ‘Bossy’. (ANI)
