Lily Allen wins three Ivor Novello Awards

London, May 21 (ANI): British singer Lily Allen has bagged three Ivor Novello Awards.

Her single ‘The Fear’, No1 for four weeks in February last year, won Most Performed Song and Best Song Musically And Lyrically at the songwriters’ bash on May 20.

Allen, 25, and Greg Kurstin, with whom she penned a string of her hits including ‘The Fear’, together won Songwriters Of The Year.

“I didn’t realise I was an exceptional songwriter. I just thought I wrote nursery rhymes – little ditties that I write for myself. I am overwhelmed,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

She wants to establish herself as a hitmaker for hire and has set her sights on adding extra magic to chart-topping acts such as Lady Gaga, whose ‘Just Dance’ was knocked off No1 by ‘The Fear’.

“I’m still writing songs all the time and I won’t be writing just for myself any more. I want to write for Lady GaGa,” she added. (ANI)

Key British political parties pursuing Lily Allen

Melbourne, Apr 26 (ANI): Lily Allen has been courted by two of Britain’s main political parties because she reached out to young fans via Internet, the singer has revealed.

In an interview with The Sunday Times in London, Allen, 24, however, said that she was not keen to help either the Labour party or the Conservatives with their campaigning.

And the Tories in particular might not get her endorsement as David Cameron recently complained about his six-year-old daughter Nancy”s obsession with Allen”s songs.

Cameron said Allen’s music was “unsuitable” for Nancy.

However, even after objecting to her lyrics, he still gave one of her CDs to U.S. President Barack Obama along with selections from the Smiths, Radiohead and Gorillaz as representing the best of British music.

“Yeah, and also I thought that his favourite album that he likes listening to with his kids is the Arctic Monkeys, which if I’m not mistaken is all about one-night stands and prostitution,” News.com.au quoted Allen as saying.

“But never mind. I don’t think they’d have been denouncing me if I’d turned up at the Conservative party conference,” she said.

Allen said she was invited to the conference, adding: “Yes, I got an invite to the Labour one as well.”

Allen has famously used the Internet and online social networking sites like MySpace to spark interest in her music and reach young fans – catapulting her to global fame. (ANI)

The 24-year-old confessed she has had enough of music for the time being as she recently wrapped up the festival season at Bestival.

“I’ve been on the road for four years and I’ve given my voice a real run for its money. I’m struggling, so I’m going to try something new,” she added.

The ‘Smile’ hitmaker will play the lead role in ‘Reasons To Be Pretty’ penned by writer and director Neil LaBute, and the star is also taking acting lessons with a teacher from posh drama school RADA.

She revealed: “The play is about themes close to my heart, things I touch on in my track The Fear, about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls.

“They want me to play the lead, which is amazing and terrifying. There’s a lady from RADA coming round to my house to train me up a bit. I’m always up for a new challenge.” (ANI)

Washington, Sep 2 (ANI): Brit singer Lily Allen has revealed that after she fell on her coccyx (tailbone), she feared that she would have to get her legs amputated.

“It really was the most painful thing ever. It was really horrible, because I had one of my security guys with me, and he said he turned around and just saw these two feet sticking out of the floor, in the air,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“You know when you fall over your natural reaction is to get straight back up again? But I was in so much pain I thought I was paralysed or something. I mean, I really thought that I was going to have to have my legs cut off,” she said.

The ‘Smile’ singer had fallen while watching two DJ friends working.

She was “crouching” behind the decks so other partygoers wouldn’t see she was there when she slipped, and fell backwards off the stage.

“They basically gave me what I can describe as like an epidural, and yes, it numbed from my knees to my lower back to get through this show,” she explained to Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd.

“But then half-way through the performance the thing started running out and I just burst into tears on stage. It was so horrible. I was sobbing real toddler tears,” she added. (ANI)

“I was trying to listen to the cricket in Amsterdam. I was screaming: ‘Australia are all out!’

“I first got interested in cricket about the time I heard Freddie Flintoff had a wee in the Prime Minster’s garden at Downing Street.

“No, seriously, I followed the 2005 Ashes – my dad is really into it and used to play. The girls would sit in the pavilion making sandwiches and the boys would play cricket.

“I’m an entertainer and my shows last an hour and it’s all very quick – life in the fast lane.

“But I’m not into one-day cricket or Twenty20, I’m into Test matches. I love the five-day slog.

“I think the Ashes should be seven or nine Test matches rather than five. It should be all-out war all summer.

“I’m a traditionalist. I like the beauty of the game, the whites against the green, and the slow pace. I like so many things about cricket,” she added. (ANI)
