Meet the Oz woman who is obsessed with letter Y!

Melbourne, May 20 (ANI): An Australian woman, who loves the letter Y, has made sure that each of her children had names containing the alphabet.

Janette Wingrave, 32, from Ocean Grove, Victoria, who is the only one in the family without a y in her name, said she just liked the name Tayla, and at first there was nothing more to it than that.

“Mitchyl was where it started. There were so many common ones (spellings) about, and I wanted something a bit different,” the Courier Mail quoted her as saying.

“Something to make the kids stand out a bit more,” she explained.

Then came Harrisyn, “the only one that people have difficulties with”. He got a triple dose of the ys – his second name’s Bayley.

Baby Samuyl got the double-whammy second name Jay. And if he had been a girl, it was going to be Shaynae or Lilly.

“I found I was having a boy, and it was, oh! I had to start playing around again,” she said.

She wanted to spell the name without the u, to make it even more of a y name, but said her husband put his foot down.

“When the kids first entered school, a few of the teachers asked how (the names) were spelt, but most people are used to it,” her husband, Garry, 30, said.

“It’s more a problem with the surname. A lot of people put a y in it, when it’s an I,” he revealed. (ANI)

Burglars threatened to take Gerrard’s kids away

London, May 15 (ANI): Burglars warned the wife of England footballer Steven Gerrard that they would take her kids in a terrifying raid on their home.

The Liverpool Crown Court was told that Alex Curran confronted the masked gang, who demanded she hand over jewellery and the contents of a safe.

Details of the ordeal emerged after Martin Wilson, 22, changed his plea and admitted the burglary following legal arguments, The Telegraph reports.

Graham Pickavance, for the prosecution, told the court the robbery took place in December 2007 as the Reds captain led his team to victory in a Champions League game against Marseille.

Curran, 27, had remained at the home in Formby, Merseyside, with their two children, Lilly-Ella and Lexie, now aged six and four, and their nanny Lyndsey Johnston.

Pickavance described the mansion as secured by high walls, a fence and electronically controlled gates, The Telegraph reports.

Police caught up with Wilson by analysing the use of his mobile phone, the court heard.

The defendant is serving six years and eight months in jail after admitting conspiracy to burgle at Liverpool Crown Court last June, The Telegraph reports. (ANI)

Katona’s ‘hubby wants to leak couple’s sex tape on net to ease cash crisis’

London, Sept 16 (ANI): Already troubled Kerry Katona fears getting into more mess as hubby Mark Croft wants to sell off a steamy sex tape of the couple to alleviate their cash crunch, it has emerged.

Pals say Katona’s former taxi driver hubby tried to sell the idea to her, which has made the ex-Atomic Kitten even more anxious about losing the custody of her two daughters, Molly and Lilly Sue, to their father and divorced hubby Brian Nicholas McFadden.

“Mark’s not given up hope by any means. He thinks it’s a guaranteed earner, which could make them anything up to half-a-million,” a pal was quoted by the Daily Star, as saying.

Friends say the 39-year old Croft has no plans to change his mind and he intends to use the cash from the tape’s sale to fund his extravagant lifestyle.

A friend said: “Mark thinks he knows it all and is determined to take over every aspect of Kerry’s life. He thinks that a sex tape of them, which somehow found its way on to the internet, would earn them a lot of cash – at least 250,000 pounds and possibly as much as 500,000 pounds.

“Mark is absolutely obsessed with money and has told Kerry that it could be a life-saver for them, but at the moment she’s having nothing to do with it.

“She’s scared stiff of anything so tacky being the last stop in her attempts to hold on to her two little girls by Brian McFadden.” (ANI)

“I want Kerry to give me the kids, and me and my mum will look after them for the next six months to a year to give her time to get her life together,” News of the World quoted him as saying on Irish TV.

The 29-year-old, who is engaged to Australian pop star Delta Goodrem, added: “Kerry can’t afford a court case at the moment, neither of us can. Our last one pretty much cleaned me out.”

Brian, who has found considerable success in Australia, further admitted: “People think because I was in Westlife I must have millions of pounds. But I still have to work to live.” (ANI)

Katona ‘sniffed up more coke after drug video went public’

London, Aug 23 (ANI): Drug shamed Kerry Katona indulged herself in more cocaine after learning that her shocking snorting video was made public, it has emerged.t is reported that Katona was sniffing up more cocaine and repeating: “I’ve lost everything. I’m going to lose my kids – the lot!”

The News of the World quoted an insider as saying: “It’s unbelievable, but she was still taking cocaine to try to numb the pain, even after she was rumbled. All she wanted to do was get completely out of her mind.

“She was crying and saying she was going to lose her advert contract with Iceland and was terrified her ex, Brian McFadden, would get custody of their daughters Molly and Lilly-Sue.

“And she kept repeating how social services would take away her youngest two, Heidi and Max. But never, at any stage, did she say she was actually going to DO something about her problem and STOP taking the cocaine.

“It was the opposite, she was just wanting to get more and more drugs to get wasted. She was up all night Saturday (after the News of the World told her about the video) and couldn’t string a sentence together by Sunday lunchtime, she was a total mess.

“And her husband Mark kept whining over and over, ‘We’ve lost the f***ing lot, Kez!’ And he was taking cocaine, too. He’s no better than her.”

Katona has publicly admitted her fear of losing her children after she returned from a holiday in Tenerife.

Katona said: “I’ve let my children down. I’m so sorry and so ashamed. I know I let everyone down – my fans, my family and people I work with.”

She also said her latest cocaine snort was “a moment of weakness” due to hubby Mark’s escapades with strippers in Majorca.

“I did it because I was very unhappy at the time and thought it might make me feel better about myself,” she added. (ANI)

Drug scandal hit Katona ‘to be quizzed by social services’

London, Aug 21 (ANI): Drug scandal hit Kerry Katona will be questioned by social services after her return back home from holiday in Tenerife, it has emerged.

Child welfare officers will also speak to two of her children about the video that shows their mother snorting cocaine.

The seven-year-old Molly and one year younger Lilly Sue are believed to have been in the Cheshire mansion when Katona took coke.

Katona’s life is in shambles ever since her coke snorting tape went public.

She lost out on her major source of income, a lucrative 250,000 pounds deal from frozen food giant Iceland. To add to her problems is a police probe and the fear of going bankrupt. And now she’s afraid she may lose the custody of her daughters to ex hubby Brian McFadden.

The 28-year-old former Atomic Kitten was quoted by the Sun as telling a pal: “I can’t believe this is happening. I’m not going to let them take my kids.”

McFadden, who lives in Australia with fiancie Delta Goodrem, is expected file for the children’s custody soon. (ANI)

Kerry Katona ‘used kids’ maintenance cash to fund cocaine habit’

London, Aug 20 (ANI): Kerry Katona uses maintenance funds sent by ex-husband Brian McFadden for their daughters to fund her cocaine habit, it has emerged.

McFadden pays 2,100 pounds per month for daughters, Molly aged seven, and one year younger Lilly Sue.

The ex-Atomic Kitten stooped to dipping into the child maintenance to fund the drugs she craves because all her other spare cash goes to pay off creditors.

The Mirror quoted a friend as saying: “It’s no secret Kerry has been really hard up recently. She’s had to find the cash to pay off an 82,000-pound tax bill as well as being declared bankrupt.

“All her assets have been frozen. So that regular payment from Brian, which is protected from the bankruptcy order, was a temptation she just couldn’t resist.

“She knew the money was untouchable. It goes towards the kids’ school fees and clothing and feeding them.

“Obviously, she hasn’t been spending every penny of it on drugs but she’s made no secret of the fact she’s been skimming off the top for herself.”

McFadden is unaware of Katona’s antics and pals say he will be furious when he finds out how the kids’ money is being spent.he friend said: “Brian will be absolutely furious when he finds out.

“He might have been in a very famous band once but he’s not exactly rolling in it himself and will be disgusted to hear that he is funding Kerry’s habit.

“He will think she is cheating the kids out of money that is rightfully theirs.”

The revelation comes after frozen food chain Iceland sacked Katona as its face from advertisements.

The 28-year-old lost out on 250,000 pounds a year because of the deal falling apart.

Katona was axed after she was caught on camera snorting cocaine at her Cheshire home. (ANI)

Katona’s ex-hubby may fight for children’s custody

London, Aug 19 (ANI): Kerry Katona’s ex-hubby Brian McFadden does not want his children to stay with their mother and has almost made up his mind to fight for their custody rights, it has emerged.

The former Westlife star is enraged that Katona snorted cocaine while the children were at home. He believes the children are no longer safe with the drug addict mum and is already talking to his fiancée Delta Goodrem and lawyers about the custody issue.

The Sun quoted a source as saying: “He is talking to Delta and lawyers to see what arrangements they can make about his kids.

“He no longer wants them to stay with Kerry. He no longer feels they are safe.”cFadden is also worried that the sacking of Katona as the face of Iceland foods will leave her too broke to look after seven year-old Molly, and one year younger Lilly Sue.

A friend said: “He is a fantastic father…this has shaken him to the core.

“He draws some comfort from the fact Kerry has a nanny. But now how will she be able to go on affording one?”

“Brian realises he has a duty of care to his children and that is his priority…He will not see them put at any kind of risk,” a pal said. (ANI)

New test can help assess efficacy of Alzheimer’s drugs

Washington, Apr 10 (ANI): Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have developed a new test that can assess whether an Alzheimer’s drug could really reduce the production of amyloid beta (A-beta)- one of the possible underlying causes of Alzheimer’s disease in humans.

With the test, called stable isotope-linked kinetics (SILK), the researchers showed that an Alzheimer’s drug given to healthy volunteers reduced A-beta production

The test could speed up the development of new treatments for the disease.

In the clinical trials by Eli Lilly and Company, the scientists are studying the drug candidate, LY450139, which is also known as semagacestat.

Ongoing clinical trials are studying the effect that semagacestat may have on cognitive function and biochemical and brain imaging biomarkers in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The researchers said that they wanted to see if SILK could detect the drug’s impact on A-beta synthesis in healthy volunteers.

“Bringing an Alzheimer’s disease drug into clinical trials from tests in animal models has always been challenging. We haven’t had a way to quickly and accurately assess a drug’s effects, and that meant there always had to be some degree of educated guesswork when it came to setting the optimal dosage for humans. SILK may help to eliminate much of that guesswork,” said study director Randall Bateman.

The researchers are currently using SILK to know if increased A-beta production, reduced clearance or a combination of the two lead to the A-beta buildup in the brain- a process believed to trigger Alzheimer’s disease.

Until SILK, there has not been a way to directly measure the production or clearance of A-beta.

Scientists have assessed the efficacy of potential new Alzheimer’s drug candidates by monitoring the cognitive functions of patients with the disease for extended periods of time, which require large, lengthy and expensive studies.

In the new study, the scientists reported a dose-dependent drop in A-beta production, and measured an 84 percent reduction in A-beta production with the highest study drug dose.

The SILK procedure takes 36 hours, but provides scientists a more detailed assessment of amyloid beta production and clearance levels than they can obtain through conventional methods.

“You could use a spinal tap to look directly at the amount of A-beta present in the cerebrospinal fluid, but we’ve shown that natural processes cause A-beta levels to change dynamically. Such changes make it more difficult to assess the effects of a drug in that fashion,” said Bateman.

The results have been published in Annals of Neurology. (ANI)
