Yoko Ono mourns Oasis split

London, June 4 (ANI): Yoko Ono is quite upset about the Oasis spilt – because she feels goodness shines from the band”s music.

John Lennon”s widow is an avowed Oasis fan and still finds it difficult to believe Noel Gallagher walked out on his brother Liam and bandmates prompting the group”s break-up.

Liam still wants to make music with his Oasis pals, but chief songwriter Noel won”t be part of the band.

And Ono is mourning the band”s split.

“I love Oasis. We need the power of goodness like them. The goodness is shining from their music,” the Daily Express quoted her, as saying. (ANI)

McKenzie confident Cooper will stay in Red

After locking in replacement cover for the departing Daniel Braid, Queensland coach Ewen McKenzie was quietly confident he would not have to do the same for Reds playmaker Quade Cooper.

The rumour mill went into overdrive about the off-contract Cooper when the Reds announced they would reveal new signings on Tuesday.

Instead McKenzie announced welcomed depth had been provided ahead of former All Black Braid’s exit at the end of the Super 14 season.

Highly touted flankers Liam Gill and Ed Quirk have set their sights on the vacancy left by Braid after being signed for 2011 along with fellow Australian Sevens reps Dominic Shipperley and Kimani Sitauti.

“I have been hearing about those two guys since I arrived, about their potential as back rowers,” McKenzie said.

But it was only a matter of time before Cooper’s future came up.

McKenzie seemed more than comfortable with talks despite reports that Cooper was tempted by a lucrative Western Force offer.

“You don’t always believe everything in the paper,” McKenzie said.

“Quade is obviously a very important player for us and I am quietly confident.

“There’s paper talk, manager talk but there’s the reality of face to face discussions. I know Quade is happy with what is happening at the Reds.”

Adding to McKenzie’s confidence is the Reds’ stunning on-field resurgence.

The perennial battlers are in sight of their first finals campaign since 2001 following their dazzling last round win over Super 14 champions the Bulls.

They are dizzy heights for a side that has finished among the bottom three teams in the competition each year from 2004.

“It’s about playing in an environment that is fun… and players have ambitions,” McKenzie said.

“You have to be playing at a place that is going to give you the best opportunity to fulfil your ambitions…and guys like Quade I am sure they have ambitions to be Wallabies.

“And playing in an environment that gives you the best platform to play in the Wallabies would be a fairly important part of it.”

It sounded like a subtle dig at the Force, who are third last with a 2-7 record, well behind the fourth-placed Reds (6-3).

Yet Queensland is still expected to have a fight on its hands to keep Cooper, such is the size of the Force offer.

“Everyone conducts their affairs their own way, everyone is different,” McKenzie said.

“It would be nice if everything is lovey dovey (in contract talks) out there but you guys wouldn’t have anything to write about would you?”

Despite dumping the defending champions last round, the Reds face another stern test against the Stormers at Lang Park on Friday night.

“They have a bit of everything there (at the Stormers) – the work we have been doing over the last four weeks, this is like a final exam,” McKenzie added.

Cats furious about Ablett poster

Geelong has been angered by a promotional poster published by a Queensland newspaper, which shows Cats star Gary Ablett wearing a Gold Coast Football Club (GCFC) strip.

The Cats say a poster in Monday’s Gold Coast Bulletin, which shows a digitally-altered image of Ablett in the red strip of the AFL’s club-in-waiting, is a “clear contravention of the rules” and could prompt legal action.

The double-page poster carries the logo “dare to dream” and calls for Gold Coast residents to become members of the club, which will enter the AFL in 2011.

Ablett, the reigning Brownlow medallist, is the number one recruiting target of GCFC.

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook says the newspaper poster is “clearly an ad for Gold Coast Football Club, pushing for supporters to become members and directing readers to the official website of the Gold Coast Football Club”.

“The advertisement uses the intellectual property of Gary Ablett without his permission,” he said in a statement.

“We look forward to the AFL, the AFLPA (AFL Players’ Association) and IMG, Gary’s management company, taking the appropriate action following this clear contravention of the rules.”

Ablett’s manager Liam Pickering could not be contacted, but the AFLPA confirmed Ablett had not provided permission for the newspaper to use his image.

AFLPA chief executive Matthew Finnis says images of players cannot be used in “non-editorial purposes without the express approval of the player featured”.

“Like all AFL players, Gary Ablett ought be able to rely on this commonly-accepted principle,” he said in a statement.

Finnis says the association and Ablett’s management will seek answers as to why the Bulletin did not seek the player’s permission.

“The AFLPA will continue to vigorously protect the intellectual property rights of all AFL players,” he said.

A GCFC spokesman says the poster is not an advertisement and was an initiative of the Bulletin.

Bulletin editor Dean Gould says the newspaper published the poster to create a talking point.

“It would be naive of me to think Geelong would be happy, but I didn’t expect that sort of reaction and I guess it shows how passionate people are about their footy,” he said.

“Clearly Geelong don’t work in the media because they haven’t checked their facts before putting that statement out.

“I’m still quite proud of it and chuffed that it’s become such a furore.”

Sevens success creates welcome headache

Longstanding plans to bolster the Australian sevens team with Wallabies at the Delhi Commonwealth Games may be scaled down or even shelved if the current crop keep progressing at a rapid rate.

Australia’s youthful squad has looked the part in Adelaide this week, so much so that Wallabies coach Robbie Deans is becoming increasingly conscious of not upsetting the rhythm when the squad for Delhi is chosen.

What Deans and sevens coach Michael O’Connor must decide is whether the likes of fringe Wallabies such as Richard Kingi, Luke Morahan or James O’Connor will be more chance of winning Commonwealth Games gold than the agile present group, including 17-year-old Liam Gill and rugby league convert Brackin Karauria-Henry.

“There’s two sides to it, there’s the profile of the game, and it is a one-off opportunity as in once every four years and most players if they’re lucky will only get one crack at it,” Deans said.

“It is a juggling act… [15s] blokes can look like fish out of water because it is a distinct difference and there won’t be any tournaments as a lead-up to that.

“So that’ll be one of the critical decisions Mick will have to make in terms of if, who and how many, in order not to compromise the work these blokes have already done.”

Deans said any 15s player called into the squad had to show a fierce desire to compete in Delhi.

“If they’re in the Wallabies program, ultimately the decision will rest with me whether I release them, and obviously we’ll include the player in that discussion,” he said.

“They’ve got to have a desire, and if they don’t have an interest it won’t benefit anyone.

“There is a possibility that some starters will be of value, but it is more likely that that group who aren’t playing week-to-week in the Tri-Nations can then start preparing so they’re ready to go when they gather.”

Gill’s efforts in Adelaide have been particularly eye-catching, but Deans stressed the need to usher him into senior rugby in a slow and deliberate manner.

“These blokes are identified and provided with support pretty early on, so [Gill] hasn’t just surfaced now – obviously the public’s become aware of him now – [but] the system’s been working with him for a while,” he said.

“Part of that is ensuring that they are well balanced in their lives and have well balanced outlooks, because if they don’t, they just don’t go the distance.”

Aussies advance to Sevens quarters

Unbeaten Australia has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Adelaide Sevens and an encounter with Fiji after beating England 17-12 in a spirited final pool match on day two.

The result eliminated England from the cup competition, punishment for an upset loss to the United States on the opening night.

Kimami Sitauti ran in two tries for the home side before Liam Gill crossed the line for the winner in front of about 9,000 spectators at Adelaide Oval.

Gill was sent off for a high tackle in the closing minutes, but a handful of desperate tackles guided the Australians through.

Their victory had the added benefit of pushing them closer to passing England into fourth on the IRB Sevens table.

The usual suspects New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji and Samoa all advanced, while Argentina and Wales also progressed to the cup quarter-finals.

Australia had earlier trounced the United States 36-0 to secure its path to the knockout phases of the tournament.

The Australians ran in six tries to nil, including a hat-trick to their opportunist centre Karauria-Henry.

Miley Cyrus’ “make out session” with Hemsworth leaves his ex heartbroken

London, Sept 1 (ANI): Teen sensation Miley Cyrus’s budding romance with Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth has left his former lover in tears.

Aussie student Laura Griffin, 19, was not worried when her boyfriend of five years kissed the ‘Hannah Montana’ star on the set of her latest movie The Last Song.

However, the real-life kiss at Nashville airport, Tennessee, two weeks ago, has left Griffin heartbroken.

Laura talked about her public dumping on Facebook.

“Liam and I have been inseparable since school. But it’s Miley Cyrus.

How can I compete?” the Mirror quoted her as writing on her page. (ANI)

Noel Gallagher calls brother Liam ‘f***ing moron’

London, Aug 31 (ANI): Noel Gallagher has slammed his brother Liam for his new fashion venture, and called him “f***ing moron”, after splitting from the band Oasis.

“They say never work with children and animals. No one mentioned f***ing morons though, did they?” the Sun quoted him as having told a friend.

The guitarist believes that the frontman’s launch of his own new clothes label, Pretty Green, has gone to his head.

He reportedly added to his pal: “I think all that modelling malarkey has gone to his head. It’s a pleasure to give him time and space to work on his autumn/winter collection.”

Meanwhile, Liam has gone for a trip to Lake Como in Italy with his wife Nicole Appleton, Oasis bass player Andy Bell, and his girlfriend, reports the Sun.

Sources believe that the singer’s alcohol habits led to the division of the band, and differences with his brother.

An insider said: “Liam has been drinking heavily for the duration of the tour and regularly got very abusive and personal. He has taunted Noel’s girlfriend, Sara, other band members and the crew.

People have been frightened to go near him. He is one very angry man who needs to sort his issues out.” (ANI)

Gallagher brothers’ mom expect them to reunite

London, Aug 31 (ANI): After Noel Gallagher’ quit rock band ‘Oasis’ following differences with brother Liam, their mother has expressed confidence that the two brothers will reunite.

“I hope this isn’t the end of Oasis. I don’t think it is. They’re just tired at the end of the tour. They’ve had fights before and got over it,” the Daily Star quoted her as having told the Mirror.

She added: “They do love each other, but they’ve always been very different. The funny thing is, they didn’t fight as children. They didn’t fight until they started the band. They are two very different characters and I think when you’re with somebody 24/7 and you’ve got two different egos they are bound to clash at times.

Noel has said that “violent intimidation” within the group made him quit. (ANI)

Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

London, Aug 29 (ANI): Noel Gallagher has quit rock band Oasis following differences with frontman and brother Liam.

“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight,” the BBC News quoted him as stating on the band’s website.

He said: “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

The guitarist apologized to fans waiting for the band to perform in near future.

He added: “Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”

Before the announcement came, the band had pulled out of second concert in the space of a week.

They were scheduled to play at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, but to the shock of their fans, screens at either side of the stage showed the message “as a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled”.

Hamish McBain, from music magazine New Musical Express, believes that it really must be the end of Oasis.

He said: “The relationship between Noel and Liam has been frosty over the last tour, to say the least, but it’s been frosty before.

“Noel has left tours before, Liam’s not showed up for gigs before, and they’ve carried on. But this, certainly the way Noel’s presented it on the Oasis website, it does feel like it has a degree of finality to it.”

Meanwhile, Oasis diehards are finding it difficult to come to terms with it.

A band follower named Wolvolass said: “I feel sick, sooo many good memories and gigs seeing Oasis over the years.”

Another fan MattGriffin added: “This is the worst day ever.”

Oasis was formed in Manchester in 1991and were originally known as The Rain.

They have a great track record with eight UK number-one singles, 15 NME Awards, five BRIT Awards, nine Q Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards. (ANI)

Liam Gallagher approves brother’s solo album plans

London, August 20 (ANI): Liam Gallagher has given the green signal to his brother and fellow Oasis member Noel’s plans to begin work on a solo album.

Noel recently confessed having penned “lots of songs” that did not suit the group, though he insisted having no plans to head for a solo project.

But the rocker’s brother said he has no qualms if Noel decided to pursue his own musical journey.

“Who knows, man, maybe he needs to go and do his solo record? f**king hell, I don’t know, I really don’t know,” the Daily Star quoted Liam telling NME.com.

“If it (recording a solo album) makes him happy, yeah, if it makes him happy.

“It would sound very civilised I reckon? (that’s) a f**king awful thing – but maybe it’s a good thing for him,” he added. (ANI)

Oasis reimburse ticket money to 20,000 fans

London, July 11 (ANI): Oasis rockers Liam and Noel Gallagher have sent out refund cheques to 20,000 fans after their last month gig was spoiled by technical problems.

They have signed the slips that reimburse ticket money.

Promoters were horrified when Noel, 42, offered to compensate fans after sound problems disrupted their gig in front of 70,000 fans at Heaton Park, Manchester.

He announced: “This is a free gig. Anybody who has kept their ticket will get a full refund.”

The refunds are accompanied by a letter apologising for the problems at the June 4 show.

However, some of the fans refuse to encash the cheques, insisting they will keep the cheques as collectors’ items.

“They are distinctive, so a few people may decide to keep them,” the Daily Star quoted an Oasis spokesman as saying. (ANI)

Rachel Hunter’s toyboy lover ‘dumps her two months before wedding’

London, Jun 24 (ANI): Brit singer Rod Stewart’s ex-wife Rachel Hunter has been dumped by her toyboy fianci Jarret Stoll – less than two months before they were due to get married, it has emerged.

Stoll, 26, an ice hockey star, had walked out on the 39-year-old New Zealand model without giving her a reason, and had emailed guests that the ceremony, which was to be held on August 14, has been cancelled.

“She is absolutely devastated. Everything was in place for their wedding – she had the venue, the designer dress, the guest list,” the Sun quoted a source close to Hunter as saying.

“She has absolutely no idea why Jarret has done this. It sounds like it could be a classic case of cold feet. He is a fair bit younger than her,” the source said.

Her daughter Renee, 17, and son Liam, 14, are said to be “in pieces” at the break-up – especially Liam who is a keen ice hockey player.

Stoll had proposed last August, and he and Hunter had bought a 2.2million pounds home in Hermosa Beach, California, and were due to tie the knot in front of guests including Michelle Pfeiffer and Sharon Stone. (ANI)

Gallagher brothers slam “invented” Duffy

Washington, June 20(ANI): Oasis stars Noel and Liam Gallagher have criticized singer Duffy, saying she’s “invented”.

While referring to her recently filmed advert for Diet Coke, frontman Liam said: “Duffy was alright until she opened her mouth. The music is OK until she did that stupid advert and things like that. It’s ridiculous,” Contactmusic reports.

Noel, Liam’s brother and guitarist, added: “Good luck to her, she’s a nice girl but you just feel like it’s been invented.

“It’s like they’ve said, ‘Amy Winehouse, she’s got a black beehive, we’ll do a blonde one.

“That’s the problem with the musical landscape, everyone’s got clipboards.” (ANI)

Rod Stewart, wife desperate to have a second child

London, May 20 (ANI): British musician Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster are desperate to have a second child, but fear they have very less time left to conceive, as their biological clock is ticking.

Rod and Lancaster, who have three-year-old son Alastair together, have been trying for a baby for more than a year.

“I think Rod’s touring and running around interferes with things but we still have high hopes,” the Daily Star quoted Lancaster as saying.

“It’s simply a question of age. It does become more difficult the older people are,” she added.

Rod has five children-Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee and Liam-from previous relationships. (ANI)

Liam and Noel renew bonds over posh Mexican tequila

London, May 18 (ANI): Just when the squabbling Gallagher brothers-Liam and Noel-started on their usual bickering during their recent tour, they have found a way to tolerate each other-their common liking for luxury Gran Patron tequila in South America.

The ‘Oasis’ stars have stopped bickering after discovering the posh Mexican tequila.

Currently on tour in Brazil, the brother duo has become hooked on the 1,500 pounds-a-bottle spirit, ever since they realised that they could gulp down dozens of shots without any ill-effects the next day.

A source has revealed that their discovery has forged a new bond between Liam, 36, and Noel, 41, who were getting to the usual “bickering stage” of the tour.

“You could say Patron has saved the tour. Liam and Noel were getting to the stage where they were bickering like schoolgirls, as seems to happen on every tour,” the Daily Star quoted the source as saying.

“Liam was drinking with the band and Noel was trying to stay clear of him.

“Then they discovered Patron and since then they haven’t looked back. They can get through a bottle after a gig, have a laugh together and get up without a headache.

“It’s amazing. They say it’s like -nothing they’ve ever drunk before.

“They are becoming Patron’s biggest fans and have been seeking out ever more expensive bottles,” the source added. (ANI)

Tori Spelling celebrates every anniversary with new sparkler

London, May 13 (ANI): Tori Spelling is thrilled with a tradition started by her husband Dean Mcdermott – he graces her finger with a new ring on every wedding anniversary.

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 actress, who tied the knot with McDermott three years ago, this time round was presented with an antique French ring with a white and a yellow diamond from jeweller Neil Lane.

And the 35-year-old star is not complaining.

“I love the tradition Dean has started,” the Daily Express quoted her as telling People magazine.

“Every year when he slips it on my ring finger, it reminds me of the day he made me his wife and we started out amazing journey together as one,” she added.

The star further added she was eagerly awaiting the day when she would pass on her collection to her kids, Liam, two, and 11-month-old Stella.

She said: “I can’t wait to one day pass on my amazing wedding band collection to my kids and their kids.” (ANI)

‘Chloe’ helmer hails Liam Neeson as ‘heroic’

Washington, Apr 24 (ANI): Irish actor Liam Neeson has been hailed by director Atom Egoyan as ‘heroic’ after he returned to the Canadian set of ‘Chloe’ just days after his wife Natasha Richardson passed away.

Egoyan, 48, revealed that it had been a “harrowing experience” for all involved, and that the only way the 56-year-old actor could have done it was because of the support he got from his loved ones.

“He called me and said, ‘You know let’s do it right away.’ It was really emotional,” People magazine quoted Egoyan as telling ET Canada.

“I think the only way he could have come back was right after because his family was all there to support his boys.

“Liam is heroic. He came back and finished,” he said.

The director went to say that Neeson, who has signed on for his first movie role since Richardson’s death at age 45, is still “in a state of shock”.

“I think he’s trying to absorb [what's happened] … He’s suddenly a single parent with absolutely no preparation for that,” he said.

“But Neeson is surrounded by people that really love him. There is a lot of support,” he added. (ANI)

Next Oasis record will be in five years, says Noel Gallagher

London, Apr 21 (ANI): It seems the tension between Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam has hit an all time low, with the former saying that it will be five years before band Oasis makes another record.

The relationship between the two brothers is said to be so bad that Liam had not even met his 19-month-old nephew Donovan, Noel’s son by girlfriend Sara Macdonald.

“He’s never seen my little lad, just pictures. To a stranger it sounds ludicrous, but you wouldn’t have him in the house if he spoke to you the way he speaks to me and my family,” the Sun quoted Noel as saying.

“Liam is constantly developing techniques for balancing that f****** tambourine on his head.

“He’s rude, arrogant, intimidating and lazy. He’s the angriest man you’ll ever meet. He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup,” he stated.

Their professional relationship has been suffering ever since Liam disappeared while recording album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ last year, to marry Nicole Appleton in a secret Valentine’s Day ceremony.

“There’s two great tracks lying there not finished from the last record, because Liam f***** off to get married,” 41-year-old Noel said.

“That annoys the f*** out of me. We’ve got a 50-piece choir on both, they’re enormous. There’s no talking to be done. Maybe that’s the problem – there’s no fall-out from it. I never said to him, ‘What are you doing, you ****?

“If albums mean that little to him, I don’t want to argue. He can f*** off as far as I’m concerned.

“By the time we make another record we’ll be five years older,” he added. (ANI)
