How transcendental meditation can prevent war and terrorism

Washington, March 23 (ANI): A new research paper has pointed how militaries worldwide could use the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program, founded by Indian spiritual guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, as a non-religious and scientifically verified way to prevent war and terrorism.

When used in a military context, these meditation practices are known as Invincible Defense Technology (IDT).

The research paper describes the concept of a “Prevention Wing of the Military,” a group of military personnel that practices the advanced TM-Sidhi program twice daily as a group.

A group that reaches a critical threshold in size has been scientifically shown to reduce collective societal stress.

The paper hypothesizes that war, terrorism, and crime are caused by collective societal stress.

The absence of collective stress translates into the absence of tension between countries, between religious groups, or even within individual terrorists.

The paper proposes that, by applying this non-lethal and non-destructive technology, any military can reduce societal stress and prevent enemies from arising.

If IDT prevents the emergence of enemies, the military has no one to fight, so the nation becomes invincible.

Over 50 scientific studies have found that when 1percent of a given population practices Transcendental Meditation, or when sufficiently large groups practice the TM-Sidhi program together twice daily, measurable positive changes take place throughout society as a whole.

The studies show decreased violence, crime, car accidents, and suicides, and improved quality of life in society.

The paper reviews IDT research, such as a study published in the Yale University-edited Journal of Conflict Resolution showing that an intervention by a civilian group in Israel resulted in a 76 percent reduction in war deaths in neighboring Lebanon.

Seven subsequent, consecutive experiments over a two-year period during the peak of the Lebanon war found that war-related fatalities decreased by 71 percent, war-related injuries fell by 68 percent, the level of conflict dropped by 48 percent, and cooperation among antagonists increased by 66 percent.

A follow-up study published in the Journal of Social Behavior and Personality found that the likelihood that these combined results were due to chance is less than one in a quintillion.

A global-scale study published in the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation documented a 72 percent drop in international terrorism when IDT groups were large enough to affect the global population.

According to David R. Leffler, the research paper””s author, “This new approach, derived from the ancient Vedic tradition of India, is supported by over 50 scientific studies. IDT can create victory before war, and can assist in peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding.” (ANI)

HRW’s Saudi Arabia fundraising mission is like asking Taliban for donation: Israel

Jerusalem, July 15 (ANI): Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office has criticized the Human Rights Watch (HRW) for sending a fundraising delegation to Saudi Arabia, and likened the situation to a women’s rights group asking the Taliban for donations.

“A human rights organization raising money in Saudi Arabia is like a women’s rights group asking the Taliban for a donation. For an organization that claims to offer moral direction, it appears that Human Rights Watch has seriously lost its moral compass,” The Jerusalem Post quoted Netanyahu’s spokesman Mark Regev, as saying.

Sarah Leah Whitson, director of HRW’s Middle East and North Africa Division, responded by saying that there was a need to distinguish between a government and its people, and to conflate the two was “misguided at best.”

“Certainly not everyone is tainted by the misconduct of their government. There are private individuals in Saudi Arabia who are not part of the ruling government,” she said.
Comments from Netanyahu’s office on HRW come in the wake of reports that a delegation from HRW recently visited Saudi Arabia to raise money from wealthy Saudis by highlighting the group’s activities against Israel.

Two weeks ago, Israel was ripped for alleged misconduct during Operation Cast Lead in reports issued by HRW and Amnesty International.

Israel has decided to take a much more aggressive stance toward future reports issued by these organizations, according to sources.

“We will make a greater effort in the future to go through their reports with a fine-tooth comb, expose the inconsistencies and their problematic use of questionable data,” one senior official said.

“We discovered during the Gaza operation and the Second Lebanon War that these organizations come in with a very strong agenda, and because they claim to have some kind of halo around them, they receive a status that they don’t deserve,” he said.

Recently, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman had said that his ministry was currently involved in a reform that would place a much greater emphasis on dealing with NGOs. (ANI)

Depeche Mode to kick start world tour in Israel

Jerusalem, May 10 (ANI): English electronic music band Depeche Mode arrived in Israel to launch their Tour of the Universe promoting their latest album.

The 1980s Brit group was forced to cancel its appearance in 2006 due to the Second Lebanon War.

And now, thousands of enthusiastic fans await their performance at Ramat Gan Stadium for the promotion of their 14th album, Sounds of the Universe.

“We were nervous about this place because we had canceled and know that people were upset,” the Jerusalem Post quoted Andrew Fletcher, a co-founder of Depeche Mode and the band’s bass player as saying.

“But we are excited by the response we’ve received here and are very pleased to have sold out,” he added.

Lead singer David Gahan revealed the sellout crowd can expect seven songs from the new album along with their older tunes.

Their world tour would cover four continents and 91 cities and is slated to end in Moscow on February 6, 2010. (ANI)

Israeli defence forces say they are not using illegal weapons

Jerusalem, Jan.12 (ANI): The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) has rejected accusations that it is using illegal arms in its war against the Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Responding to a Human Rights Watch allegation that the army was firing artillery shells packed with white phosphorus, an incendiary agent, over populated areas, including a crowded refugee camp, and putting civilians at risk, the IDF was quoted by the Jerusalem Post as saying it only used “munitions in accordance with international law.”

The substance can cause serious burns if it touches the skin and can spark fires on the ground, the rights group said in a written announcement calling on Israel not to use it in crowded areas.

The IDF came under similar criticism during the Second Lebanon War for its use of cluster bombs.
White phosphorus is not considered a chemical weapon, and militaries are permitted under the laws of warfare to use it in artillery shells, bombs and rockets to create smoke screens to hide troop movements, as well as bright bursts in the air to illuminate battlefields at night.

Human Rights Watch said it had no way to investigate whether anyone was injured on the ground because its researchers have been barred by Israel from entering Gaza. (ANI)
