Noel Gallagher calls brother Liam ‘f***ing moron’

London, Aug 31 (ANI): Noel Gallagher has slammed his brother Liam for his new fashion venture, and called him “f***ing moron”, after splitting from the band Oasis.

“They say never work with children and animals. No one mentioned f***ing morons though, did they?” the Sun quoted him as having told a friend.

The guitarist believes that the frontman’s launch of his own new clothes label, Pretty Green, has gone to his head.

He reportedly added to his pal: “I think all that modelling malarkey has gone to his head. It’s a pleasure to give him time and space to work on his autumn/winter collection.”

Meanwhile, Liam has gone for a trip to Lake Como in Italy with his wife Nicole Appleton, Oasis bass player Andy Bell, and his girlfriend, reports the Sun.

Sources believe that the singer’s alcohol habits led to the division of the band, and differences with his brother.

An insider said: “Liam has been drinking heavily for the duration of the tour and regularly got very abusive and personal. He has taunted Noel’s girlfriend, Sara, other band members and the crew.

People have been frightened to go near him. He is one very angry man who needs to sort his issues out.” (ANI)

MJ’s new songs not to be released anytime soon

London, July 10 (ANI): While sales of Michael Jackson’s earlier albums have boosted in the past few weeks, the new music recorded by the late King of Pop before his death is not expected to be release anytime soon, revealed president of his record label Epic.

Jackson had been working on new music for several years with hip-hop and R and B stars like Will.i.am, Ne-Yo and Akon.

“We just want to pay our respects to Michael. We don’t want to be seen to be jumping on any bandwagon associated with his death,” the BBC quoted Amanda Ghost as saying.

In an interview with BBC 6 Music, Ghost said that “the appetite is definitely there” for new material.

“If we do release anything of unreleased material, it has to be fantastic and it can’t damage in any way his legacy or his legend and I won’t let that happen at Epic.

“I have no idea when it’s coming out, but it will come out on Sony/Epic. We haven’t made any decisions because we just want to be respectful for his memory and not be seen in any way as trying to cash in,” she added.

In fact, the release of new music could also be delayed as legal negotiations over his estate continue.

Bruce Swedien, a producer and engineer who worked on ‘Off The Wall’ and ‘Thriller’, has said that he believed Jackson was working on instrumental music as well as a pop album. (ANI)

The mystery of woman’s 200-pound legs continues

Washington, July 8 (ANI): Doctors are still scratching their heads over a woman’s rare condition that has caused her legs to grow at an alarming rate, leaving them to weigh more than 100 pounds each.

Mandy Sellars, 34, was born with abnormally large legs and feet and doctors at the time did not have a diagnosis.

It was not until she was 2 years old that her parents were wrongly told she had lymphedema, which causes extreme swelling in arms and legs.

“When I was born, they knew straight away that there was something completely different about me. They actually didn’t let my parents see me. They took me away from my mom and I think they kept me away from my parents, particularly my mom, for about 10 days or 14 days,” Fox News quoted her as saying.

And more than 30 years later, Sellars, a single woman who lives on her own outside of Manchester, England, is still to learn the official diagnoses for the specific condition.

Some medics think she has a rare disorder called Proteus Syndrome, a condition that causes skin overgrowth and atypical bone development, often accompanied by tumours over half the body.

She said: “So at the moment it’s still really a guessing game as to exactly what this is – but Proteus Syndrome is a label I can put on it.”

Sellars, who weighs 280 pounds and drives a specially equipped car, continues to struggle with her legs that have been growing larger and larger over the years.

The brave lady has been offered amputation, but was looking for some more options.

Meanwhile, she has her mind set on just one thing.

She said: “My goal is to keep on walking as long as I can. That’s the goal from today, tomorrow, the next day, next week and next month. Obviously, having my legs amputated is quite scary… but I look at it in a way that once I have my legs amputated, it will be a new kind if life – it won’t be any better or any worse from the life I have now – it will just be a different life and a start of a new chapter.” (ANI)

Madonna repeats infamous bunny ears for new LV ad

New York, July 1 (ANI): Madonna repeated the infamous bunny ears that she wore in May to pose for an ad campaign for luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

The Queen of Pop faced the camera for a series of advertisements for Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2009 campaign sporting romantic colours.

The singer was seen wearing the same much-criticised headpiece that she wore to the Met’s Costume Institute Gala two months ago, along with fingerless gloves and thigh-high boots, reports the New York Daily News.

The Material Girl also showed off a pair of fishnets in a string of raunchy ads for the label’s Spring 2009 collection.

An apparent retouching was suggested to have soften the fitness conscious star’s rock-hard muscles. (ANI)

Jacko wanted ‘One Day In Your Life’ played at his funeral, says pal

Washington, June 30 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s former producer has revealed that the King of Pop wanted 1981 tune ‘One Day In Your Life’ to be played at his farewell ‘concert’.

The track was recorded by Jackson for his 1975 album Forever, and he himself thought if would make a great tune for his funeral, reports Contactmusic.

The song’s co-writer and producer, Samm Brown recalls, “It’s a very prophetic song. The lyrics are very deep and Michael even told me, ‘This would be a good song for my obituary or my funeral.’”

Brown insists the song was always one of Michael’s favourites: “He liked using that part of his voice. He had incredible range but he liked that sound.”

He adds, “Michael was such a perfectionist and he had a lot of stuff that he didn’t use. I know for a fact that Motown (record label) has a deep vault and I would say there are 100 or more tracks sitting at Motown alone.

“Plus there will be somebody in his (Jackson) camp who will want to release all of the lost tracks he recorded – dating way back to the 1960s. There’s huge money to be made off of these recordings, and this is the way of the music business – it’s still a business.” (ANI)

Chris Brown’s ‘Not My Fault’ not about Rihanna, says rep

Washington, June 25 (ANI): A representative for Chris Brown has slammed reports that the singer posted a song online about his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.umours started making rounds after a new set of tunes recorded by Brown appeared online – with one of the tracks, ‘Not My Fault’, apparently hinting at the row on the eve of the Grammy Awards in February (09) that left Rihanna battered and bruised.

However, a spokesperson for Brown’s label, Jive Records, has denied that the songs were recorded around the time of the attack or after the court case on 22 June (09) – insisting they are old demos.

“Countering misleading reports of ‘new’ Chris Brown music: there are no ‘new’ songs from Chris Brown currently being promoted by Chris or his record label,” Contactmusic quoted the rep as saying in a statement.

“There are several old demos circulating that are being falsely promoted as new material from Chris,” the rep added.

Brown has been sentenced to six months community service, five years probation and ordered not to go within 50 yards of Rihanna. (ANI)

Winehouse axes ‘emotionally painful’ UK comeback gig

London, May 23 (ANI): Amy Winehouse has cancelled her comeback concert in the UK, claiming it was too “emotionally painful” for her to perform.

The troubled singer was slated to take to the stage at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on May 31 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Island record label.

But the 25-year-old, who is trying to kick her drug addiction in St Lucia while facing divorce proceedings with hubby Blake Fielder-Civil, was reportedly struggling to cope with emotions and decided to pull the plug.

“Amy is regretful about having to do this but she needs to close this chapter and start a new one,” the Sun quoted a source from her camp as saying.

Her management recently apologised for the revocation, promising fans a full refund for their tickets.

A source added: “Amy is really upset about missing the dates as Island have been so good to her. Amy understands a lot of people will be disappointed.”

The Rehab hitmaker, earlier this month, had shocked many after giving a shambled performance at St Lucia’s jazz festival, during which she could barely stand as she guzzled drinks, forgot her words then burst into tears as the crowd jeered.

The source added: “Singing the songs she sang in St Lucia has brought back too many painful memories. She just can’t face it.”

The Grammy Award-winning star had reportedly landed in the hospital for the third time in three months following another booze bender in the Caribbean.

A pal said: “She is drinking like a lunatic and there was no way she’d be ready to perform. She still has too many demons to fight. It is such a shame.” (ANI)

Melbourne, May 17 (ANI): Michael Clarke and Lara Bingle have ditched their clothes….. for underwear campaigns.

Speedo girl Bingle and her Bonds ambassador fiance peeled off layers of clothing for their respective brands’ spring/summer ranges.

The sizzling images of stunning Bingle were shot on location in an empty public swimming pool at Ashfield, reports News.com.au.

“It was cold,” said Bingle, who posed in Speedo’s new underwear range for the midnight to dawn shoot with swimmer Andrew Lauterstein.

“I’m not bothered at the hours I work. Every day modelling is different, so it’s always good to do something out of the ordinary,” she added.

Following in Bingle’s footsteps, Clarke gave an eyeful by getting involved in a revealing campaign, along with tennis great Pat Rafter.

He also confirmed his loyalty to Pacific Brands underwear label Bonds by saying, “I’m nothing but honoured to be with the brand.” (ANI)

Homeopathic remedy gets first ever licence nod from Brit medicines regulator

London, May 16 (ANI): An arnica product has become the homeopathic remedy to receive a first licence nod from the British medicines regulator under controversial new rules.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has granted Nelsons Arnicare Arnica 30c pillules permission to make medicinal claims.

Manufacturers of homeopathic remedies were in the past prohibited from giving a therapeutic indication due to a lack of evidence questioning its effectiveness, reports the Times Online.

But under the new granted license, the packet of 84 pillules would bear the explanation: “A homeopathic medicinal product used within the homeopathic tradition for symptomatic relief of sprains, muscular aches and bruising or swelling after contusions.”

Robert Wilson, chairman of Nelsons, said that the inclusion of therapeutic indications on the packaging could “not only opens the practice of homeopathy up to new users but also gives it added credibility as a safe and natural complement to conventional medicine”.

But experts have cast a shadow of doubt over the decision, dubbing it a “cynical mockery of evidence-based medicine”.

Edzard Ernst, professor of complementary medicine at the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, argued the arnica-based homeopathic product had zero active ingredients.

He said: “This is a huge rip-off and the label now makes false and misleading claims. There is no biological plausibility for this to work – it makes a cynical mockery of evidence-based medicine.

“Arnica is actually poisonous if you swallow it, so these pills contain essentially zero active ingredient.” (ANI)

Traffic light nutrition labels effective in improving consumers’ food choices

Washington, May 07 (ANI): A new study by researchers in Australia has shown that consumers are more likely to identify healthy food when they see colour-coded traffic light nutrition labels.

Some governments are trying to improve the quality of nutrition information that consumers have access to in supermarkets by adding labels to the front of food packages, but there is no standard approach, not all products have labels and in many countries several different systems are used.

“Food manufacturers are currently allowed to use any labelling system they prefer on the front of food packages. In some countries this has led to a plethora of different systems appearing on supermarket shelves, which only serves to confuse consumers more and does not allow them to quickly and accurately identify healthy products,” said Bridget Kelly, a nutritionist at the Cancer Council, New South Wales in Australia.

“The food industry tends to favour the percentage daily intake method (known as Guideline Daily Amount in some countries), but our research indicates that the traffic light system is the most effective and that a consistent labelling approach across all food products is needed. This is unlikely to be achieved without government regulation,” Kelly added.

The researchers conducted a study to determine the most acceptable and effective food labelling system for consumers.

Four different approaches were tested on 790 Australians to determine their preferences and ability to compare the healthiness of mock food products, using two variations of the traffic light system and two variations of the percentage daily intake system.

Each person was exposed to only one type of nutrition label, allowing each system to evaluated on it own merits without the influence of the others.

The results showed that consumers favoured a consistent labelling format across all products.

Also, those who were shown the traffic light labels were five times more likely to identify healthier foods than those shown a single colour version of the percentage daily intake label and three times more likely to do so than those shown a colour-coded version of the daily intake label.

The study was presented at the European Congress on Obesity. (ANI)

Kate Moss, Jamie Hince’s relationship on the rocks?

Washington, May 4 (ANI): Brit supermodel Kate Moss’s relationship with guitarist boyfriend Jamie Hince is reportedly on the rocks again after it emerged that he struck up a friendship with a PR girl on tour in Australia.

Hince and his band ‘The Kills’ have been on a gruelling trip around America, New Zealand and Down Under.

As per British newspaper The Mail, Moss was not pleased when she heard Hince had become friendly with Nicci Hunter, who works for Australian clothing label Sass and Bide.

“Word reached her that Jamie became quite friendly with Nicci. She cut short her holiday to the Maldives with Jamie earlier this year because they were fighting so much,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling the tabloid.

“Now she and Jamie haven’t seen each other for weeks. She hasn’t wanted to join him on tour,” the source added.

Hunter insists her friendship with Hince is innocent, adding she met him through his Kills bandmate Alison Mosshart. (ANI)

Indonesian Muslims outraged as companies sell pork under beef’s label

Jakarta, Apr. 17 (ANI): Muslims in Indonesia have been left outraged, following the discovery that Indonesia’s popular dry-meat-product-selling companies were substituting beef with pork.

After conducting DNA tests on jerky samples from traditional markets in Java and Sumatra, Indonesia’s National Food and Drug Monitoring Agency BPOM found that five companies were deceiving Muslim sentiments by contaminating their products with pork.

“I can imagine how furious the public, particularly Muslims, would be once they find out that they have been deceived all this time,” News.com.au quoted BPOM head Husniah Rubiana Thamrin, as saying.

The agency also found that though some of the pork products were labelled halal, they were not.

Halal meat is considered to be suitable for Muslims.

The agency believes producers used pork to increase their profits, because it is cheaper than beef.

About 90 per cent of Indonesia’s 240 million people are Muslim. (ANI)

Health Warnings On Tobacco Packs From May 30

Come May 30, cigarette and tobacco makers have to flaunt the legislative pictorial warning on the packs of their products as the Centre promised to put into effect the rule making the provision obligatory in a month’s time.

Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium gave the word to a bench led by Justice B.N. Aggarwal after senior counsel Indira Jaisingh, appearing for NGO Health for Millions, alleged the Centre was dragging its feet on the subject.

Jaisingh charged the administration of crumpling under the force from the tobacco lobby.

When Jaisingh sounded off the Centre had thinned out the original warning signs on tobacco products, the bench said, “This way, the government wants to control the population.”

Jaisingh said that the administration at first planned to display images of a skull and bone along with a warning that tobacco products even kill a baby in mother’s womb.

But, using X-ray images of lungs on the label of tobacco products has diluted the caution, she claimed.

After hearing the Centre and Jaisingh, the court decided to take up latter’s request for a final clearance on April 30.

Simon Cowell plans to step down as American Idol judge

London, Apr 13 (ANI): Media mogul Simon Cowell is reportedly planning to step down as the judge of American Idol, in a bid to relieve himself from his exhausting work schedule.

Cowell, who also judges Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, flies four times a week to keep up with his hectic work agenda.

Besides, he also heads a record label and television production firm.

Cowell has revealed his American commitments may face the axe once his contract is up next year 2010.

“I don’t want to come over as whiney because I am very grateful that I have got these jobs. But there is a point where I am not sure we can keep this schedule up. It takes longer and longer to make these shows because you have to put more into them, and I am not sure we can sustain me doing three shows a year, with the record label and the TV production company,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

“Most people do one show a year and I do three and they involve a lot of travelling. One may have to go. I don’t know which one.

That is the problem, I like all of them. I can’t imagine not doing Britain’s Got Talent and I can’t imagine not doing X actor. But I guess America is more likely to go because I have got one year under contract. Maybe that will be the end,” he added. (ANI)

Amy Adams used to make fake designer clothes!

London, April 12 (ANI): Actress Amy Adams has confessed that her financially strained upbringing often led her to make her own fake designer clothes at home.

The ‘Enchanted’ star revealed she had to rely on clearance sales to fill her wardrobe, and if she missed upon the chance, she could not afford the clothes.

But that did not stop the 34-year-old from being trendy since she started making twin apparel at home.

“We were defined by the clothes we bought at the mall,” the Daily Star quoted her as telling W magazine.

“If I didn’t get things on clearance, I wasn’t getting them. I would make fake Guess jeans by buying a cheaper brand with a triangle label and then cutting it off so you could still see the triangle outline.

“It’s so sad that I did that! But I really wanted to be one of those girls,” she added. (ANI)

Chinese petitioners protest “mentally ill” label

Beijing – A Peking University professor apologized after hundreds protested in front of the campus against his claims that people who petition the government are mentally ill, local media reported Wednesday.

Professor Sun Dongdong was quoted in the March 23 edition of China Newsweek magazine as saying that 99 per cent of people who repeatedly petition, or make complaints to the government, are mentally ill.

“Putting them in hospital is the best insurance we have, as they are a danger to society and themselves. The best way to protect their human rights is to keep them indoors, give them treatment and promote their spiritual recovery,” he was quoted as saying.

Nearly 300 people rallied outside the university on Monday and Tuesday, according to activists quoted in the Hong-Kong based South China Morning Post.

Sun apologized in a statement on the China News Service on Monday afternoon.

“Some of the content, due to an inappropriate use of language, caused some dispute and misunderstandings. I deeply regret this. If some of the content hurt some people’s feelings, then I sincerely apologize. I also truly hope they (the petitioners) will be able to solve their problems through legal channels,” he said.

Under China’s petition system, citizens are allowed to challenge government or judicial decisions by filing grievances with designated bureaus, which are then required by law to provide a response.

But there have been many reported cases of petitioners being sent to mental institutions by locals authorities to silence them.

The state-run Beijing News reported last December that residents of Xintai in Shandong province were institutionalized after complaining about local corruption and the unfair seizure of property.

They were released only after agreeing to give up their causes, the article said.(dpa)
