Hyundai sees European car demand shrinking in H2

July 29 (Reuters) – Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS), South Korea’s top automaker, expects car demand in Europe to shrink in the second half as government incentives for new cars are phased out, an executive said on Thursday.

Hyundai executive vice president Lee Won-hee said the world’s No.5 car maker along with its affiliate Kia Motors Corp (000270.KS) saw sales growth in China slowing down slightly in the second half, although it would still be strong.

Hyundai expects to maintain strong growth with new models and is likely to exceed its business targets, Lee told investors. (Reporting by Cheon Jong-woo; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)

Woman Rescued After Car Goes Into Pool

EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Bystanders have rescued a woman whose car ran off a street and into a backyard swimming pool in East Bridgewater.

Police said 62-year-old Marjorie Ponder of East Bridgewater was driving a 2005 Kia on Washington Street when she apparently had a medical problem on Tuesday afternoon. The car left the road and went through two fences into the pool behind a house.

Amy Rinker told reporters at the scene she was driving behind Ponder and saw the accident. Rinker and Jen Pavao, who lives in the house, worked with a neighbor to get Ponder out.

Ponder was taken to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital with what police said were potentially serious injuries. Her condition was not immediately released.

Indians mulling multi-million pound football league on lines of IPL

London, Mar 19 (ANI): Indians are planning a multi-million pound football league on the lines of the mega rich Indian Premier League.

They want to launch a two-month league within three years using big international names who are at the end of their contracts.

Three well-known football dealmakers, Pini Zahavi, Chris Nathaniel and Kia Joorabchian will help establish the competition.

A number of Indians have been linked with takeovers at English Premier League clubs but will now invest at home and bring players to them.

Football’s IPL is part of a wider strategy geared to bidding for the 2026 or 2030 World Cup. Moves are being made to attract top clubs for friendly cups over the next two years.

“It’s a very exciting concept. If players are out of contract there will be nothing to stop them coming,” The Sun quoted an Indian source, as saying.

“India saw how Major League Soccer got David Beckham. This would be on a much bigger scale,” the source added. (ANI)

Manchester City not in 47-mn pounds deal for Tevez

London, Sep 12 (ANI): No deal was struck with Manchester City to pay a British record transfer fee of 47 million pounds for Carlos Tevez to MSI, the company fronted by Kia Joorabchian which owned the player before his move to City.

A spokesman for Kia Joorabchian last night denied that Manchester City had struck a deal to pay 47 million pounds for Tevez to MSI.

A report last night alleged that City had agreed to pay 47 million pounds for the Argentine forward, as opposed to 25.5 million pounds, the figure widely reported as the fee City paid to lure him from Manchester United.

“It’s not true,” a spokesman for Joorabchain said of the 47 million pounds figure. The spokesman said that he expected Joorabchian, and possibly City, to issue a formal denial today.

Rumours have circulated for several weeks that City had agreed to pay considerably more for Tevez than the 25.5 million pounds reported at the time of his move, The Independent reports.

Last night’s reports suggested that City had agreed to an initial 15 million pounds payment for Tevez, with two 16 million pounds payments to come.

If City did agree to pay 47 million pounds for Tevez, as alleged last night, that figure would smash the British record of 32.5 million pounds that City paid in 2008 for Robinho.

It would cast fresh light on the magnitude of the ambitions of City’s Middle Eastern owners, and on their willingness to pay massive sums for players, the paper reports. (ANI)

Manchester City to complete signing of Tevez next week

London, July 11 (ANI): Manchester City will complete the signing of Carlos Tevez before going on their pre-season tour of South Africa on Wednesday.

The Argentinean hitman, 25, has finished his holidays and is now committed to the move across town from Old Trafford after becoming a free agent.

City are just clearing up the red tape surrounding the third-party ownership of a player which, Premier League chiefs insist, must come to an end.

The club will pay owner Kia Joorabchian 26.5 million pounds to sever ties so the player will become City’s property, The Sun reports.

He had previously been on a two-year six million pound loan to Manchester United, but the Red Devils dragged their feet on making him a permanent signing.

Tevez has since criticised boss Alex Ferguson for leaving him out of many big games.

Tevez will join fellow new signings Roque Santa Cruz and Gareth Barry at Eastlands. (ANI)

Carlos Tevez Leaving Man U, Manchester City favourites to bag him

Manchester, June 20 (ANI): English football giant Manchester United’s second striker Carlos Tevez won’t be playing for the club next season.

“His advisors informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the club’s most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United. The club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future” Sky News quoted a statement released by the club, as saying.

Earlier, Tevez had declared that was deeply unhappy at perceived lack of match action, despite the fact that he made more appearances than either Wayne Rooney or Dimitar Berbatov.

Man U’s chief executive David Gill had been in continuous talks with Tevez’s advisor Kia Joorabchian, to keep the Argentine star at Old Trafford.

United had agreed to pay the option price of 25.5 million pounds, and even offered a five-year contract to Tevez, which would have made him one of the highest paid players at the club.

The Argentine will not be short of offers from other clubs, with Manchester City being the favourite to capture him. (ANI)

Tevez threatens to leave if Man U fails to make him club’s highest paid player

London, June 19 (ANI): Carlos Tevez has told Manchester United to make him club’s highest-paid player or he will leave.

The Red Devils have agreed the 26 million pounds asking price to make the Argentinean striker’s loan move permanent. But they have still to match the personal terms of 110,000 pounds a week that stars Rio Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov earn.

Tevez, 25, has been on 95,000 pounds a week since joining Sir Alex Ferguson’s side but his loan ends at the end of this month, The Sun reports.

He is on holiday in Buenos Aires where he has also been contacted directly by new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. Tevez is impressed with new Blues’ boss Ancelotti’s personal approach.

Manchester City are also interested in grabbing the striker as boss Mark Hughes bids to build a team capable of giving the Premier League’s big four a tough fight.

Tevez was frustrated with the Red Devils last season for leaving him in the dark over his future. Now the player and his agent and co-owner Kia Joorabchian are happy to keep them waiting on their decision. (ANI)

Tevez claims ‘old man’ Fergie doesn’t like me

London, May 16 (ANI): Argentine striker Carlos Tevez has dubbed Manchester United coach-cum-manager Alex Ferguson an ‘old man’ hell-bent on lowering his value in the transfer market.

According to The Sun, Tevez has grown increasingly frustrated at being dropped for Manchester United’s big matches and, according to his national boss Diego Maradona, fears Fergie wants him out.

Maradona said: “I spoke with Tevez on the phone and the first thing he said to me was ‘That old man doesn’t like me. He’s not playing me and he is lowering my value’.”

“When he comes to Argentina, I’m going to reassure him. As I see it, he’s fast, incisive, he scores goals. He is about to be called up for Argentina and he will be playing,” Maradona added.

Ferguson insists he wants to keep the on-loan star, who is owned by Kia Joorabchian.

Fergie even claimed United had made Tevez an offer to stay, though this was denied by the Iranian businessman. (ANI)

Man U’s Tevez rejects Real Madrid’s 40 million pound offer

London, May 15 (ANI): Argentine striker Carlos Tevez has rejected a Real Madrid offer of 40 million pounds.

The Argentine turned down the offer as he is hopeful a deal can be struck with his current employers Manchester United.

The striker’s representative Kia Joorabchian has also insisted that it is up to Tevez to decide his future and that money is not an issue in determining his next move.

“Carlos will decide on his future. Carlos Tevez will decide where Carlos Tevez will play. This is not about money it’s about where Carlos wants to play and his family. To turn down the chance of progressing talks of this nature shows this,” The Independent quoted Joorabchian, as saying.

Tevez’s situation at Old Trafford has changed dramatically over the last few days. Having given an interview in which he said he no longer felt wanted at the club and would be leaving in the summer, the situation now appears to be that he wishes to stay.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also insisted United would like the striker to remain at the club, despite reports to the contrary from Tevez’s representatives. (ANI)

Argentine Tevez open to switch from Man U to Man City

London, May 13 (ANI): Argentine striker Carlos Tevez has opened the door to a dramatic move from Manchester United to neighbours City.

Tevez’s agent Kia Joorabchian dropped a big hint last night that City, backed by the billions of Abu Dhabi owner Sheikh Mansour, are a serious option for the Old Trafford crowd favourite.

The Sun quoted Joorabchian as saying Tevez is prepared to join a club who are not in the Champions League providing they have the ambition and resources to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.

City is one of the few clubs in Europe who can afford Tevez’s 32 million pound price tag and 100,000-pound-a-week wage demands.

Manager Mark Hughes has been given a blank cheque book by the Sheikh with the mandate of turning the club into a Champions League force.

Joorabchian said: “There is a lot of interest in Carlos. His preference is to stay in England. Every player at his level wants to play in the biggest competitions that they can and the Champions League is the biggest. But Carlos is not the kind of person who says, ‘I have to play for this club’. He has never been like that.”

Joorabchian says Tevez could join City or any of the other clubs chasing him with a clear conscience because, as yet, United have made no attempt to turn his loan spell into a permanent deal. (ANI)

Tevez says he is ready to play for Liverpool

London, May 12 (ANI): Argentine football star Carlos Tevez has indicated that he wants to join Manchester United’s fiercest rivals Liverpool.

The news will anger Alex Ferguson, who has always refused to sell his stars to Anfield.

But unless United make the Tevez loan move permanent, they will be powerless as the player is a free agent this summer, reports The Sun.

Fergie blocked Gabriel Heinze moving to Liverpool two years ago even though they wanted to sell him.

Liverpool have contacted Tevez’s owner Kia Joorab- chian to register their interest and the Argentine is keen on the move.

It will enable Tevez, 25, to continue living in Cheshire where his family is settled.

He is not concerned by any animosity the move might cause as he has already stated his desire to stay and feels United do not want him. (ANI)

Tevez issues ‘come and get him’ plea to Man U rivals

London, May 10 (ANI): Argentinean Carlos Tevez has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United’s Premier League rivals by insisting that his career at Old Trafford is over.

The on-loan striker is angry at being left on the bench for long periods and claims United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hasn’t tried to sign him permanently.

Tevez’s shock bombshell will alert Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Aston Villa – while Iranian businessman Kia Joorabchian’s company, which owns the player, has also received a 45 million pounds offer from a foreign club.

News of the World quoted Tevez as saying: “I am very sad about this but I guess what I’m saying is goodbye.”

“I don’t think I will be a Manchester United player next season. I have done everything I possibly can but they have never made me an offer so I have to leave. I think I will be at another club next season,” he added.

The Argentinean insists he wants to stay here.

He said: “I want to play in England because it is the best league in the world and it suits my style.” (ANI)

Ferguson fears losing Tevez

London, Apr 25 (ANI): Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted for the first time that he fears Manchester United could lose Argentine football star Carlos Tevez at the end of the season.

United and Tevez’s owner Kia Joorabchian have been unable to reach an agreement over his valuation.

Joorabchian wants United to pay the 32 million pounds that was verbally agreed when he came on loan at the start of last season. United value him at much less – nearer 20 million pounds and the Argentine striker has voiced his displeasure about his future not being sorted out.

Asked if United were now vulnerable to him going elsewhere, boss Ferguson said: “Of course we are, no question about that.

“That is our weakness. His loan period finishes at the end of the season. I think he genuinely wants to stay here and that is what we are working towards and I have told him that repeatedly – but there is no more I can do. He should be here next season. I certainly hope so,” The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.

Tevez, 25, also complained publicly this week about being left out of the side and that he spends too much time on the bench.

Ferguson has done his homework and found Tevez has actually played more than both Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

“I don’t want him to be unhappy because he is an important player for us. The difficulty is when you have got the options I have got. I bought another striker in with Berbatov, as well as having the option of playing Ronaldo as a striker – you create problems for yourself because all good players want to play in every game,” he said.

“They can’t play in every game in this league – it is impossible. But, he’s played more minutes than Rooney and Berbatov this season. He does give fantastic effort. That is one of his best qualities. He is a tiger, he fights for every ball, he holds it up well, he is a handful to play against, we know that.”

“But I go back to the point that he has played more minutes than any of the other players up front and I think if he looked at that he would think differently. That is what we say to all the players. When you deal with the squad I have got, they are all internationals,” Ferguson added. (ANI)

Hyundai to go ahead with eco cars

Hyundai Motor Group, the world’s No. 5 automaker, will go ahead with plans to develop environment-friendly cars despite the segment’s low profitability and an industry downturn, a senior executive said on Thursday.

Yang Woong-chul, president of the group’s auto research and development division, also said the group saw almost “no problem” to its business from the won currency’s recovery trend. A weaker won has helped Hyundai and other South Korean automakers by enhancing price competitiveness and boosting profits from overseas markets.

“It is difficult to get profits from those kinds of cars. But we have to go that way eventually so will go ahead with our eco-friendly model plans,” Yang said in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the Seoul Motor Show.

The group usually allocates 5 percent of sales for R and D and spends 20-30 percent of that budget on environment-friendly models such as hybrid cars, said Yang, who is in charge of auto technology for South Korea’s top two car makers — Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Motors Corp.

Hyundai plans to start mass production of hybrid cars next year and to begin mass production of plug-in hybrids from late 2012.

“The technology has been perfectly proved, but we need time to set up the infrastructure for the models,” Yang said.

The remarks came as General Motors Corp has asked for $2.6 billion in low interest government loans to support the development of three new hybrid vehicles, confirming that it intends to move ahead with production of variants of the all-electric Chvrolet Volt.

Hyundai has unveiled the Elantra LPI, a hybrid version of the popular compact car, which will be powered by liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and lithium polymer batteries. South Korea’s LG Chem, which is set to supply battery packs to the Volt, will be the sole provider of batteries for the Hyundai hybrid.

NO WON WORRIES

The recent rise in the won is unlikely to pose any threat to the group as it has not made plans based on the currency’s weakness, Yang said.

“We do not rely on foreign exchange rates. So there will be almost no problems for our business from the won’s recovery trend,” he said.

The South Korean currency had risen about 16 percent by Wednesday since March 6, when it hit an 11-year low, and is seen recovering further as worries about the global financial crisis ease.

Yang said he expected global car demand to “slightly” recover on rising appetite for smaller cars and helped by developing markets, but declined to comment on the timing of a rebound.

Kia with start-stop technology

Seoul – Kia is offering the Cee’d with start-stop technology on the European market reducing fuel consumption and emission figures by up to 15 per cent, the South Korean car maker has announced.

The Intelligent Stop and Go (ISG) system would be offered for a price of 300 euros (393 dollars) extra for the Vision and Spirit models with the 1.4 and 1.6- litre engines.

Kia would offer the ISG technology later this year also for the 1.6-litre diesel engine and for several 2010 models.

Start-stop technology automatically switches off the car’s engine when it stops at a traffic light. Once the driver activates the clutch, the engine is automatically restarted. (dpa)

Man U not to renew loan deal with Argentinean Tevez

London, Mar.19 (ANI): Manchester United has announced that it will not be able to renew their loan deal with Argentinean Carlos Tevez.

In fact, the only way the Premier League champions can keep the 25-year-old striker after this season is to buy him – and the asking price is 32 million pounds, reports The Sun.

Tevez has been allowed to play for the Red Devils because he signed a two-year loan deal before new Premier League rules came into force last June.

Those regulations forbid similar loan arrangements, where third parties and not a club own players. Tevez is still owned by agent Kia Joorabchian.

Tevez will now go to the highest bidder at the end of the season – but he will not be able to play beyond this summer unless a club buys out his registration. They will then play him – or loan him out. (ANI)

Man U set to end contract with Tevez

London, Jan.7 (ANI): Manchester United are set to kick out Argentine football star Carlos Tevez after his admission that he would love to play for the Spanish football team Real Madrid.

According to The Sun, club boss Alex Ferguson is said to be running out of patience with the 24-year-old Argentinian striker after he made it clear that clubs are lining up to sign him.

Tevez’s owner and advisor, Kia Joorabchian, said: “I don’t know if ‘Carlitos’ will go. It’s difficult to say. Anything can happen.

“Madrid want him and have showed concrete interest. They’re not the only club. There are many,” Joorabchian added.

Tevez, still on loan at Old Trafford, is unhappy that United have not opened talks about a new contract, or the possibility of buying him off Joorabchian for 32million pounds. (ANI)

Ferguson asks Ronaldo to stop retaliating

London, Jan 3 (ANI): Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has asked his ace striker Cristiano Ronaldo to stop retaliating against his opponents on the field, because the spotlight is always on him.

The Portuguese star has been involved in a number of controversial incidents of late after being fouled.

Ronaldo has kicked out at Scott Brown of the Celtic, the Spurs’ Michael Dawson and Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson. This week he had a tunnel bust-up with Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz, The Sun reported.

Ferguson said: “Of course, I can understand Cristiano’s frustration. I can understand it all right. He’s produced little moments of displeasure at the treatment he’s getting.”

“They have been trivial things but because it is Ronaldo, as he points out himself, it is magnified. But that’s the penalty for being a great player. He has to understand that,” he added.

Ronaldo will be rested for FA Cup tie at Southampton as Ferguson juggles his squad.

Striker Carlos Tevez will also be missing after being given time off to go home to Argentina. His loan deal has still not been made permanent.

And, Ferguson said United chief executive David Gill is having problems agreeing the details with his owner and agent Kia Joorabchian.

He wants the 32million pound that was verbally agreed when he first moved to the club, but United now value Tevez at less.

Ferguson said: “We have been trying but it’s difficult sometimes with agents.”

Meanwhile, United have completed the permanent signings of Serbs Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic from Partizan Belgrade for a combined total of 16 million pound.

Winger Tosic, 21, will join immediately while midfielder Ljajic, 17, will stay at Belgrade for another year. (ANI)
