Work saved Emma Thompson from depression

London, March 29 (ANI): Actress Emma Thompson says work saved her from depression during difficult times.

The Oscar winner, 50, has opened up about her life and how she began suffering from depression.

“I think my first bout of that was when I was doing Me and My Girl, funnily enough,” the Telegraph quoted her, as saying on Radio 4”s Desert Island Discs.

Thompson went on: “I really didn”t change my clothes or answer the phone, but went into the theatre every night and was cheerful and sang the Lambeth Walk.

“That”s what actors do. But I think that was my first bout with an actual clinical depression.”

When asked about a five-year period during the 1990s, when she starred in seven films, was nominated for five Academy Awards and split with her husband Kenneth Branagh, she replied: “I don”t think I did stay sane, actually. It was tough. I think I probably should have sought professional help long before I actually did, for all sorts of reasons.

“Yes, divorce, ghastly, painful business but also fame, in some ways a ghastly, painful business as well. You become slightly more public property in a way that”s not necessarily always comfortable.”

According to Thompson, scripting the movie adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, wherein she starred alongside Wise and Kate Winslet, helped her beat another period of severe depression when her first marriage broke down.

Thompson explained: “The only thing I could do was write. I used to crawl from the bedroom to the computer and just sit and write, and then I was alright, because I was not present.

“Sense and Sensibility really saved me from going under, I think, in a very nasty way.”

She said acting as “an escape from myself, which I”m ashamed to say I enjoy very much.”

Asked what she was escaping, Thompson said: “Oh, you know, the voices in my head. The constant “must do better”, “must try harder” plus “you”re too fat and not really a very good mother”.

“That punitive conscience is part of my psychiatric problem.” (ANI)

Winslet ‘wants to escape house-of-horrors she shared with Mendes’

New York, March 29 (ANI): Kate Winslet is making up her mind to leave the “house-of-horrors” Manhattan apartment she shared with Sam Mendes, it has emerged.

After their split, Mendes is believed to have been putting up at his office in the same converted warehouse building when he”s in New York.

“Kate really wants to leave the apartment. She sees it as a house of horrors because of the fights she and Sam had there. She feels it is tainted,” the New York Post quoted an insider, as saying. (ANI)

Bullock’s husband sorry after affair claims

Sandra Bullock’s husband has broken his silence on reports that he cheated on his Oscar-winning wife, telling People magazine he used “poor judgment”.

Jesse James, a custom motorcycle manufacturer who married Bullock five years ago, said he took responsibility for his actions. But he stopped short of admitting that he had an affair with another woman.

Bullock, 45, pulled out of the London premiere of her hit movie The Blind Side on Wednesday after US celebrity magazine In Touch Weekly published claims by a model that she slept with James last year.

“It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way,” James said in a statement to People.

“This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them.

“I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them.

“I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”

Bullock has reportedly moved out of the home she shares with James.

She is the latest in a long line of actresses whose relationships have fallen apart shortly after they won an Oscar.

Recent previous winners afflicted by what has come to be known as the “Oscar curse” for best actresses include Hilary Swank, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon and Julia Roberts.

British actress Kate Winslet, who won the Oscar last year for her role in the The Reader, announced on Monday that she and her film director husband Sam Mendes had separated.

Love torn Sandra Bullock ‘turns to Keanu Reeves for advice’

London, Mar 20 (ANI): Actress Sandra Bullock is said to have sought her ‘Speed’ co-star Keanu Reeves’ advice following the revelation of her husband’s affair with a model.

Bullock, 45, has been rocked by claims that her husband Jesse James had an affair with tattooed model Michelle McGee, and turned to Reeves, 45, for advice.

“Keanu has always been close to Sandra and good friends with Jesse. He’s been helping both of them,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

Actress Kate Winslet had also sought the advice of her ‘Titanic’ co-star Leonardo DiCaprio after her split from husband Sam Mendes. (ANI)

Bullock reportedly blindsided by husband

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock pulled out of the London premiere of The Blind Side as a US celebrity magazine published a claim that her husband cheated on her.

Bullock, 45, was due in the UK on Tuesday (local time) to promote the Warner Bros film.

But she issued a statement saying that “due to unforeseen personal reasons a trip abroad to support The Blind Side has been deemed impossible at this time.”

“I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your continued support of the film,” her statement added.

The announcement came as In Touch magazine published an interview with a California model who claimed she had slept with Bullock’s husband of five years while the actress was in Atlanta filming The Blind Side last year.

Bullock married custom motorcycle manufacturer Jesse James, 40, in 2005.

At several award ceremonies earlier this year, Bullock attributed much of her recent success to her happiness at home.

Bullock’s publicist could not immediately be reached for comment.

If the claims of infidelity by James prove correct, Bullock will join a long list of actresses whose relationships have fallen apart shortly after they won an Oscar.

Leonardo DiCaprio ‘helping Kate Winslet deal with split’

London, March 17 (ANI): Leonardo DiCaprio is helping pal Kate Winslet deal with her marriage breakdown, it has emerged.

DiCaprio and Winslet rose to fame playing lovers in ‘Titanic’ and were reunited on screen two years ago in ‘Revolutionary Road’ – directed by her husband Sam Mendes.

It has been claimed that the actress’ relationship with Mendes, 44, suffered on set and eventually led to their break-up.

The couple separated several months ago and made the split official on Monday.

However, DiCaprio has become a shoulder to cry on as cracks appeared in her six-year marriage.

“Leo and Kate have been like brother and sister since they starred in Titanic together,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“And since Kate”s marriage started to go south, around the time they were filming Revolutionary Road, they”ve got closer again.

“Kate has always really adored Leo and feels like she can tell him anything.

“They were so young when Titanic came out, so it”s fair to say they basically grew up together, professionally at least.

“They were thrust into stardom together and were the only people who knew what the other was going through. He”s been a rock for her,” the source added. (ANI)

Kate Winslet split from Sam Mendes ‘out of boredom’

New York, March 17 (ANI): Kate Winslet decided to put an end to her seven year old marriage with Sam Mendes ‘out of boredom’, it has been alleged.

The Oscar-winning actress, 34, and the director, 44, called it quits two years after they teamed up for the film Revolutionary Road, based on a drifting couple.

“She felt bored. When Sam isn”t working, he”d just as soon stay home. Kate loves going out. … She was the one pushing for the divorce,” the New York Daily News quoted a friend of the couple as saying.

The source further claimed Winslet’s steamy scenes with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in the film were the tipping point.

The friend said that movie “put a lot of stress on their marriage” and “Kate came to regret making the movie with Sam.”

The pal continued: “They”ve been pretty much living separate lives since the end of the summer. They realized some time ago that they were not a good fit. They were more like brother and sister.” (ANI)

Winslet splits from director husband

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet and her director husband Sam Mendes have separated after six years of marriage.

The Hollywood A-listers’ split was “amicable”, the British couple’s lawyer says.

Winslet, winner of the 2009 best actress Oscar for The Reader, married Mendes, awarded the best director Oscar in 2000 for American Beauty, in May 2003.

“Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” lawyer Keith Schilling said in a statement.

“The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement.

“Both parties are fully committed to the joint parenting of their children,” Mr Schilling added.

“They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family.”

Winslet and Mendes have a six-year-old son, Joe. Winslet also has a nine-year-old daughter, Mia, from her previous marriage to Jim Threapleton, an assistant director she met while making the low-budget film Hideous Kinky.

The 34-year-old British actress rose to global prominence as the romantic heroine in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

Winslet was married for just over three years to Threapleton, but they divorced in December 2001.

She and Mendes became a couple within two months of her split from Threapleton.

They made their first public appearance in Britain together in 2002 when they attended the premiere of Mendes’ second film, The Road To Perdition.

Mendes, 44, directed Winslet in the 2008 drama Revolutionary Road, an experience he described as “exhilarating”. He also confessed he saw “a side of her I just didn’t know”.

The film, about a disintegrating marriage in 1950s suburban America, reunited Winslet with DiCaprio and won her a Golden Globe for best actress.

Often described as one of Hollywood’s “golden couples”, Winslet and Mendes were based in New York.

Mendes attended the ceremony with Winslet when she won the Oscar last year, but this year she went to the event alone.

Educated at Britain’s prestigious Cambridge University, Mendes made his name as a theatre director, before his spectacular success with American Beauty which won five Oscars, including a best actor gong for Kevin Spacey.

Mendes’ past loves have included British actresses Jane Horrocks and Rachel Weisz.

Winslet’s film credits also include World War II drama Enigma in 2001 and the 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law.

She is currently filming the HBO TV mini-series Mildred Pierce with director Todd Haynes and actors Guy Pearce and Evan Rachel Wood. It is about a divorced single mother.

The film chronicles film producer Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir as she struggles to understand her severely autistic son Keli.

Winslet, 33, is said to be on the verge of signing up for the film, which landed screen legend Joan Crawford an Oscar.

Titanic is a 1997 American romantic drama film directed, written, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron based on the sinking of the RMS Titanic. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, two members of different social classes who fall in love aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage of the ship. The main characters and the central love story are fictional, but some characters (such as members of the ship’s passengers and crew) are based on real historical figures. Gloria Stuart plays the elderly Rose, who narrates the film in a modern day framing device.

Production of the film began in 1995, when Cameron shot footage of the real wreck of the RMS Titanic. He envisioned the love story as a means to engage the audience with the real-life tragedy. Shooting took place at the Akademik Mstislav Keldysh – which aided Cameron in filming the real wreck – for the modern scenes, and a reconstruction of the ship was built at Playas de Rosarito, Baja California. Cameron also used scale models and computer-generated imagery to recreate the sinking. Titanic became at the time the most expensive film ever made, costing approximately US$200 million with funding from Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox.

The film was originally to be released on July 2, 1997, but post-production delays pushed back the film’s release to December 19, 1997. Upon release, the film turned out to be an enormous critical and commercial success, winning eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It became the highest-grossing film of all time, with a worldwide total of over $1.8 billion (it is the sixth-highest grossing in North America once adjusted for inflation).

I’m used to people openly discussing my boobs, says Kate Winslet

Melbourne, July 10 (ANI): Kate Winslet has admitted that she doesn’t mind people openly talking about her breasts.

The Oscar-winner insists that she’s proud of her all-natural body.

“I’m used to people openly discussing my tits. If people are noticing my boobs in a movie and saying they do what real boobs do, then that’s great,” the Courier Mail quoted Winslet as telling Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Meanwhile, the actress has said that she may not appear naked on-screen anymore because people have seen enough of her.

People have seen enough of my bum and boobs, says Kate Winslet

London, July 9 (ANI): Kate Winslet insists that she may not appear naked on-screen anymore because people have seen enough of her.

The Oscar-winning actress, who has appeared naked in a number of films including ‘The Reader’, feels that as the years go by, the pull to appear in the buff may ebb away.

“I’ll be 34 in October. I can’t keep getting away with it,” the Sun quoted her as telling Harpers Bazaar.

“There was so much of it in The Reader because the story required it, but people have seen enough of my bum and my boobs. I have to put them back,” she added.

Known not just for her fabulous figure but also for her glamorous look, Winslet is quick to dismiss the world of Hollywood glitz.

“Our knickers will still go up our a** at the most inappropriate moment,” she said.

“And we’ll still want to flick them out, but you can’t because someone is going to catch you,” she added. (ANI)

Kate Winslet stuns pupils at her old stage school with surprise visit

London, Jun 27 (ANI): English actress Kate Winslet reportedly stunned pupils at her old stage school when she turned up for a rehearsal session.

The students had no idea that Winslet, 33, was there until stage curtains were drawn back at Blessed Hugh Faringdon School, Southcote, Reading.

“Don’t be shy because I am very normal. Ask me questions, anything you like,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

The actress, who is a patron of Berkshire-based amateur dramatic group Starmaker, answered questions from budding actors and actresses before taking part in a drama workshop.

The ‘Titanic’ star then went on to give acting tips to the actors on how to overcome first night nerves.

“When the lights come on you’re so blinded you can’t see the audience. So you don’t have to be nervous at all,” she said.

She watched rehearsals for productions of Boogie Nights and Wizard of Oz, before taking part in a workshop with Jack Kowalik, 15.

“I was so starstruck because she was acting right next to me, and I was thinking: ‘What if I do something really bad’?” Kowalik said. (ANI)

Kate Winslet still wears the ring Leonardo gifted her

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): Hollywood actress Kate Winslet has revealed that she still wears the gold band that her Titanic co-actor Leonardo Di Caprio gifted her.

Kate has also revealed that gold band has an engraving inside.

She, however, chose not to divulge what it says, reports the China Daily.

“Yes, Leo’s ring is engraved on the inside, but I’m not going to tell you what it says,” Kate told Flare magazine.

Kate declared that her closeness to Leonardo helped her easily enact the scenes in the flick ‘Revolutionary Road’.

“I would even let Leo physically harm me if it meant making a scene better, and I know he feels the same way. If we didn’t have this rare friendship, I don’t think we would be able to show that chemistry on screen,” she added. (ANI)

Kate Winslet, DiCaprio donate $30K to last Titanic survivor

Washington, May 11 (ANI): Actors Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have together made a donation of 30,000 dollars to the last remaining survivor of the doomed ship Titanic.

According to Access Hollywood, the two, along with ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron, handed over the cash to ensure that 98-year-old Millvina Dean can pay her nursing home fees.

Dean was the ship’s youngest passenger at nine months old when the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank en-route to New York in 1912. She is the ship’s only living survivor.

Photographer Don Mullan made an appeal to help raise money for Dean in the Sunday edition of the Irish Independent newspaper, and also reached out to Winslet, DiCaprio and Cameron in a bid to raise awareness.

Mullan has already set up an exhibition to raise funds.

“I figured that if the edition sold out, it would secure Millvina for a full year. My plan, however, was to double the impact and thereby secure her for two years,” Contactmusic quoted him as telling the publication.

“I decided, therefore, at the opening of the exhibition, to publicly challenge James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, 20th Century Fox and Celine to match me dollar for dollar,” he added.

According to reports, Mullan is still waiting to be contacted by Celine Dion, who won an Oscar for the movie’s theme song My Heart Will Go On. (ANI)
