Montgomerie fighting to save marriage after cheating wife

London, Jun 4 (ANI): Ryder Cup captain and golf superstar Colin Montgomerie is fighting to save his marriage after confessing that he had been having a secret affair with his ex-lover Joanne Baldwin.

Montgomerie’s two-year marriage is in trouble though he has ended his affair so that his wife Gaynor stays with him, The Mirror reports.

“I have put my marriage under considerable strain, but we are working through these problems. I am very sorry for the hurt I have caused to the ones I love so much.

“I would ask that my family and I are given the space and privacy to continue trying to resolve the issues. I will be making no further comment,” Montgomerie said in a statement.

The golf superstar first fell for former neighbour Joanne, 50, after his marriage to Eimear Wilson broke down in 2004, The Mirror reports.

The romance with Joanne finally collapsed in April 2006 after the golfer was spotted sharing romantic dinner dates with Scottish TV presenter Alison Walker.

Soon afterwards Montgomerie met Gaynor, who inherited 20 million pounds in 2003 when her first husband, furniture tycoon George Knowles, died while on holiday in Mallorca.

They wed in April 2008. The couple has seven children between them and lives in a nine-bed Perthshire mansion.

A source close to Joanne said: “She kept in touch after they split up and made it clear she would always be there for Colin.”

Joanne told The Mirror: “I’m very sorry if his marriage is in trouble, but it’s nothing to do with me.” (ANI)

Sharp rise in injury, death of 70-yr-old Brits indulging in extreme sports

London, April 19 (ANI): A new British survey has revealed that there is an alarming increase in the number of over-70s being injured or killed while indulging in extreme sports.

Nearly a fifth of all injury claims resulting from sports such as diving, mountaineering and skiing, were made last year by Britons aged 70 or over compared to just 5 percent in 2006.

Specialist insurer Perkins Slade, which insures groups such as the British Mountaineering Council, said the high proportion of claims came despite the over 70s making up just 5 percent of its customer base.

“There has been a sharp increase in the number of older people in accidents. It wasn”t long ago that the over 70s made up just 2 per cent of our claims,” the Telegraph quoted Richard Doubleday, director of sport at Perkins Slade, as saying.

“There”s no question that the evidence shows that the older you are the greater risk you present. While people are undoubtedly getting fitter and healthier, our figures show that the number of accidents after 70 increases dramatically.

“While older people may think they are capable of undertaking risks with their bodies, the reality is that they are more vulnerable.

“The participation in hazardous activities is much safer than what it was five years ago. The reality is that 70s is the new 50s – we are much fitter and aware of opportunities to take advantage of these sports.

“Taking part in hazardous activities isn”t cheap and it is often only later on in life that you have the means to do it,” he said.

More than a third of the 212 people in British scuba diving incidents requiring medical treatment last year were over 50, according to figures by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

It said the numbers of incidents as well as the proportion of victims over 50 has “increased significantly” in comparison with previous years.

Joanne Groenenberg, a spokesman for the MCA, said older people taking part in high-risk sports such as diving should first make sure they have done the right health checks.

“People are living longer, are fitter and have more money to spend on leisure activities, so it is no surprise that we are diving longer into retirement age,” she said.

“But there are risks and divers need to be aware of these. They need to make sure that they get a health check to reduce the hazards and ensure they are generally fit and healthy,” she stated.

The warning comes after an adventure-seeking pensioner was killed when she was hit by car while on a cycling trip around Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.

Vivienne Tremain, 66, of Beccles, Suffolk had already ridden more than 6,000 miles when the accident happened eight months into her tour.

A white Ford Fiesta near Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, Australia, hit Tremain, a widow, from behind and she died instantly in the early morning crash.

Like humans, gorillas too cajole bored pals to continue a game

London, Mar 17 (ANI): Gorillas, just like humans, have the tendency to keep bored friends into a game by cajoling or even by deliberately losing if need arises, a new study found.

The above tendency indicates that gorillas may have “theory of mind” – the capacity to attribute mental states to others, said Richard Byrne and Joanne Tanner of St Andrews University in the UK, who videotaped gorillas at San Francisco Zoo.

Other than engaging with a toy and another gorilla, the animals seemed aware of how their playmate was interacting with the toy.

“The gorillas could encourage their playmates when they were losing interest, or self-handicap if there was a danger of winning the game,” New Scientist quoted Byrne as saying.

This is the first time animals have been observed following a playmate”s interaction with a third object – a skill picked up by humans at 9 months old.

However, with dogs, cats, lions and bears “the animal wants to win the game, rather than keep it going. This is different to throwing a stick for your pet dog,” said Byrne.

Byrne said that because the gorillas seem to be taking account of the thoughts of others, they are showing some theory of mind competence, despite the fact that they do not pass a theory-of-mind test called the false belief testMovie Camera, which looks at the ability to infer another”s perspective.

Nuns at Lady Gaga’s school aghast at her video

New York, September 19 (ANI): The nuns who teach at a school where pop star Lady Gaga once studied were reportedly far from happy when shown a video of her performance.

The nuns at the Convent of the Sacred Heart girls school were shown the video of the singer’s performance at VMA Awards.

The singer, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is presently known for her scanty costumes and such lyrics as “I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.”

“When someone showed the nuns a video of her bloody performance at Sunday night’s VMA Awards, the good sisters were not amused,” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.

A spokesman for the school was not available for comment. (ANI)

Lady Gaga – Lady Gaga Hermaphrodite – Hermaphrodite – Ciara Hermaphrodite – Lady Gaga Man – is Lady Gaga a Man – Proof Lady Gaga isn’t a Man – Lady Gaga Man or Woman Or Both – What makes Lady Gaga go gaga?

Lady Gaga | Lady Gaga Hermaphrodite | Hermaphrodite | Ciara Hermaphrodite | Lady Gaga Man | is Lady Gaga a Man | Proof Lady Gaga isn’t a Man | Lady Gaga Man or Woman Or Both | What makes Lady Gaga go gaga?

Positive self-statements do more harm than good

Washington, July 4 (ANI): While self-help books are considered to boost a person’s moral, a piece of research now suggests that positive self-statements in such books may actually leave people with low self-esteem and feeling worse about themselves.

Psychologists Joanne V. Wood and John W. Lee from the University of Waterloo, and W.Q. Elaine Perunovic from the University of New Brunswick, found that individuals with low self-esteem actually felt worse about themselves after repeating positive self-statements.

In the study, the researchers asked participants with low self-esteem and high self-esteem to repeat the self-help book phrase “I am a lovable person.”

Then the psychologists measured the participants’ moods, and their momentary feelings about themselves.

It was found that the individuals with low self-esteem felt worse after repeating the positive self-statement, compared to another low self-esteem group who did not repeat the self-statement.

The individuals with high self-esteem felt better after repeating the positive self-statement, but only slightly.

In a follow-up study, the psychologists allowed the participants to list negative self-thoughts along with positive self-thoughts.

Surprisingly, they found that moods of the participants with low self-esteem fared better when they were allowed to have negative thoughts than when they were asked to focus exclusively on affirmative thoughts.

The psychologists suggested that, like overly positive praise, unreasonably positive self-statements, such as “I accept myself completely,” could provoke contradictory thoughts in individuals with low self-esteem.

Such negative thoughts can overwhelm the positive thoughts, and if people are instructed to focus exclusively on positive thoughts, they may find negative thoughts to be especially discouraging.

The authors concluded: “Repeating positive self-statements may benefit certain people [such as individuals with high self-esteem] but backfire for the very people who need them the most.”

The study has been published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. (ANI)

Lady Gaga admits she’s bisexual

Washington, May 28 (ANI): Popstar Lady Gaga has finally admitted that she’s a bisexual.

The 23-year-old singer, however, admits that she’s really saddened to see her boyfriends’ reaction to the fact that she’s sexually attracted to women.

“The fact that I’m into women, they’re all intimidated by it,” Usmagazine quoted Lady Gaga as telling Rolling Stones magazine.

“It makes them uncomfortable. They’re like, ‘I don’t need to have a threesome. I’m happy with just you,’” she added.

The ‘Poker Face’ hitmaker a.k.a Stefani Joanne Germanotta says she has never been in love with a woman and that the interest is purely physical in nature.

In fact, the love of her life actually was heavy-metal drummer named Luke, who she met four years ago, but has recently broken up.

“I was his Sandy, and he was my Danny, and I just broke,” the singer said of her breakup with Luke, who inspired nearly all of the songs on her debut album, The Fame. (ANI)

Paul Newman’s widow upset over his shameful biography

Washington, May 1 (ANI): Late Hollywood actor Paul Newman’s wife Joanne Woodward is fuming over the release of a book called Paul Newman: A life, because it portrays him as a boozy womanizer.

Joanne is devastated that the immoral book written by Shawn Levy will depict the legendary actor in the bad light.

The book talks about Newman’s romance with a journalist on the set of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid in Mexico and his alcoholic ways.

According to reports, the writer, Nancy Bacon, who wrote about Newman in her book Stars In My Eyes… Stars In My Bed, told Levy that she dumped the actor because he was “always drunk”.

However, Joanne is not buying any of it and is hurt that Newman, who worked so hard all his life and was known as an incredible artist, will be portrayed in a bad light after his death.

“Joanne is devastated and furious. She cannot understand why this cruel book is being written about Paul,” Contactmusic quoted a source, as telling America’s the Globe.

“Joanna and Paul had one of the longest, happiest marriages in Hollywood. She is terrified everyone is going to say it was all a sham and they lived a lie. She’s furious his (Newman’s) good name and legacy are being ripped apart,” the source added.

Newman died of cancer last September (08) at the age of 83. (ANI)

U.S. names official as U.S.-Mexican “border czar”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Obama administration on Wednesday named a former U.S. Justice Department official who was “border czar” during Bill Clinton’s presidency to lead its efforts to crack down on drug-related violence along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the appointment of Alan Bersin, a former federal prosecutor, during a visit to El Paso, Texas.

It took place one day before U.S. President Barack Obama planned to stop in Mexico before traveling to Trinidad and Tobago for the Fifth Summit of the Americas.

The Obama administration also announced on Wednesday it was placing three Mexican drug gangs — the Sinaloa Cartel, Los Zetas and La Familia Michoacana — on a list of significant foreign narcotics traffickers targeted for special sanctions.

The move allows the U.S. government to freeze all cartel assets in U.S. jurisdiction and bar Americans from dealing with funds linked to the groups and their operatives.

Bersin, a former U.S. attorney in San Diego, served as the “border czar” to then-Attorney General Janet Reno during the Clinton administration. He also served as California’s education secretary and superintendent of schools in San Diego.

“He will lead the efforts to make our borders safe while working to promote commerce and trade,” Napolitano said in a statement.

Speaking later at a news conference in Nogales, Arizona, she added that Bersin would work as a “special envoy” facilitating cooperation among U.S. federal, state and local authorities and their Mexican counterparts.

“His … sole mission is to make sure that all of the things happening with Mexico right now are happening in real time and producing the kinds of results that we anticipate,” she said.

White House officials said on Monday that Obama’s visit to Mexico was a signal of support for Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his efforts to confront violent drug trafficking gangs.

Curbing drug cartel violence is a top concern for authorities in both the United States and Mexico, where warring traffickers killed 6,300 people last year.

The U.S. government announced plans last month to help Mexican authorities combat the gangs south of the border, as well as stepping up efforts to choke off the southbound flow of U.S. guns and drug-smuggling profits to the cartels.

Napolitano said Bersin, who begins work immediately, will have the title of assistant secretary for international affairs and special representative for border affairs.

Lady Gaga reveals her love for John Lennon

Washington, Mar 25 (ANI): American singer Lady Gaga has revealed that had she lived in the hippie era in the 1960s, she would have been chasing after John Lennon and fighting for him with Yoko Ono.

Lady Gaga, 23, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, believes she was born in the wrong era, and insists that she would have fit in better when The Beatles were at the height of their fame.

“I’m quite sure that if it were 1968 I may not be the Lady GaGa that I am today,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“I might be arguing with Yoko Ono and trying to win John Lennon’s heart and chasing The Beatles in a bus on LSD, hoping that one of them hands me a microphone one day,” she added. (ANI)

Guinea junta arrests former top officials

Nairobi/Conakry- Guinea’s military junta has arrested three former ministers, including a former prime minister, reports said Tuesday.

Ahmed Tidiane Souare, who was prime minister when the military took over in December, and two former mine ministers have been detained, unnamed sources told the BBC.

Captain Moussa Dadis Camara seized power at the end of December following the death of strongman president Lansana Conte, who had been in power since 1984.

Camara’s regime has arrested many former officials, among them Conte’s son, who admitted to smuggling cocaine.

Guinea was suspended from the African Union following the coup and will remain so until polls promised for 2010 take place.

After seizing power, Camara temporarily suspended mining and said he would examine all contracts.

As part of an apparent policy of getting tough with mining companies, Camara last week shut down AngloGold Ashanti’s gold mine in Guinea after a member of its management failed to attend a meeting to discuss problems in the industry.

However, AngloGold Ashanti Tuesday said it was re-commencing production.

“We were able to meet with the president and had a constructive discussion that allowed us to re-open,” Joanne Jones, a spokeswoman for the company, told German Press Agency (dpa)

Lady Gaga is besotted with Prince Harry

London, March 18 (ANI): Lady Gaga confessed that she was “royal-struck” after spotting Prince Harry at a club last year, and couldn’t stop herself from staring at him.

The pop vixen said part of her fascination with the soldier prince was due to his “posh” accent.

“I spotted him last year in a club and couldn’t take my eyes off him,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

“British men are cool. I especially love the accent and Prince Harry sounds so posh,” she added.

The 22-year-old, born as Stefani Joanne Germanotta, previously revealed she has often had officials warning her to cover up.

But that hasn’t stopped the blonde diva from abandoning her trademark PVC, which she wears without pants most of the times. (ANI)

Lady GaGa’s barely-there outfits prompt cover-up call from cops!

London, March 16 (ANI: It’s not just mothers who are worried about the effect of Lady Gaga’s barely-there outfits, for cops too keep prompting the pop sensation to cover up.

The 22-year-old has revealed she has often had officials warning her against her trademark PVC, which she wears without pants most of the times.

But that hasn’t stopped the blonde diva, born as Stefani Joanne Germanotta, from expressing her “love for the naked body”.

The singer was recently approached by Chicago authorities when she hopped about in a tiny pair of hotpants.

“I guess they weren’t really pants at all,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

“But it was really funny because all you saw was this halfnaked girl on the street yelling at some cop ‘It’s fashion! I’m an artist!’ It was fun,” she added.

The ‘Just Dance’ hitmaker further said: “It’s not that I don’t like pants, I just choose not to wear them some days. I think no pants is sexy. I love the naked human body. I was working in strip clubs when I was 18.” (ANI)

Lady GaGa doesn’t regret her stripping past

London, March 15 (ANI): Lady GaGa has no qualms about her former stripping days that lent her support during her teens.

The 22-year-old, born as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, revealed she left her posh family in shock after turning to stripping at 18.

“I was working in strip clubs when I was 18. Girls from my background weren’t meant to turn into someone like me. I come from a wealthy Italian family, went to a good school,” News of the World quoted her as saying.

“I went against all I was brought up to be; I moved out of home, wouldn’t take any help from my parents and supported myself with waitressing jobs and stripping,” she added.

The pop sensation further revealed having achieved a sense of freedom with the act of dropping clothes though her parents thought otherwise.

She said: “I discovered a real personal freedom through it. Obviously my parents didn’t like it. I was drawing huge crowds, setting hairspray alight on stage and dancing madly.

“My dad thought I’d lost it. With the drugs it was his reaction that pulled me back. I didn’t go to Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. I did it myself. I have such a fear of failure, I didn’t want anything to make me fail. So I stopped. I still drink and party, but there’s no darkness now. Just a lot of fun.” (ANI)

Oz Test centurion North hungry for more success

Johannesburg, Feb.28 (ANI): Having scored a combative 117 in his debut Test, 29-year-old Australian all rounder Marcus North, is keen to deliver some more of the same at the international level.

North was extremely upset upon his dismissal, and that in itself, is an indication of his approach to the game.

The 29-year-old West Australian scored almost 9000 first-class runs before winning a baggy green. He has also become the 18th Australian to score a century on debut.

North and Mitchell Johnson (96 not out) had steered Australia from 7-296 to 8-413 with a record partnership of 117 but North clearly wasn’t satisfied.

“When you have been waiting for an opportunity for such a long time, once you get that you are pretty hungry to make the most of it,” North said after day two of the first Test at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.

“And that’s probably where I am at the moment. Every time I am going to get to play for Australia, I am going to make the most of it. I’m never happy to get out. I was beaten by the bowler this time.

“Mitch was out there for me and we were building on a partnership and I was really enjoying batting with Mitch and doing a job for Australia and getting us in a really healthy position. So whenever that is kind of taken away from you, whether it’s my stupidity through a shot or good bowling, it’s always pretty disappointing.”

North hit 12 fours in his six-hour innings.

“I’m pretty chuffed, very pleased to get an opportunity to play for Australia, let alone get a hundred on debut.

“I’ll be looking forward to getting on the phone and having a chat to my wife (Joanne). I’m sure she would have been a little bit nervous at times today but she has been a great support for me.” (ANI)

Paris Hilton furious over being made the object of Lady GaGa’s album

London, Jan 19 (ANI): Socialite Paris Hilton has flown into a rage after Internet gossips claimed that her old schoolmate singer Lady GaGa’s album poked fun at her.

Lady GaGa, who had attended New York’s Convent of the Sacred Heart school with the hotel heiress and her sister Nicky, recently claimed that her album ‘The Fame’ was all about “how anyone can feel famous”.

However, online bloggers claimed that the album definitely talks about Hilton, 27.

“Lady GaGa is clearly talking about the do-nothing heir-head she went to school with,” the Daily Star quoted one blogger as having written.

“There’s no doubt she’s poking fun at Paris,” another wrote.

A pal of ‘The Simple Life’ star has revealed that she is furious to have been made the object of the album.

“She’s livid that she’s been singled out on the Internet as an object of derision over Lady GaGa’s CD,” the pal said.

“They barely knew each other at school, other than perhaps nodding as they passed in the corridor.

“Paris is also envious of the way GaGa has made it big in the UK. GaGa is the name on everyone’s lips. It is really annoying for her,” the pal added.

A source close to Lady GaGa, 22, whose real name is Joanne Stefani Germanotta, said that the singer had got talent.

“If Paris wants some kind of an apology, she’s barking mad. GaGa has real talents,” the source stated. (ANI)

Lady GaGa blasts TV talent show wannabes

London, Jan 13 (ANI): After knocking X Factor champion Alexandra Burke off the top of the UK singles chart, New York singer Lady GaGa has hit out at TV talent show wannabes.

Lady Gaga a.k.a Joanne Stefani Germanotta has slammed reality show winners saying that they are handed instant stardom.

She stated that unlike reality show winners, she learnt her trade by working hard and slogging on stages in the clubs.

“I did this the way you are supposed to. I played every club in New York and found myself as an artist,” The Daily Star quoted Lady Gaga, as telling The Daily Record.

“I learned how to survive as an artist and how to fail and then figure out who I was as a singer and performer. And I worked hard,” she added. (ANI)
