Jennifer, who enjoys coffee, dairy and wine is said to have benefited from the temporary plan and lost 7 pounds.

“While in Europe last month, Jen had relaxed her usually strict diet regime.

“She knew she had been indulging, and seeing as her upcoming role required her to wear lots of little dresses, she wanted to be at her physical peak,” news.com.au quoted a source as telling Britain’s Grazia magazine.

Tracy is very impressed with Jennifer’s progress.

“She’s doing really well. Nobody says they only want one specific thing changed,” she said.

The diet includes fruit smoothies, pureed oatmeal and pears with cinnamon, soups containing dandelion greens and a dinner of lean meats and vegetables, and Tracy swears by the eating plan.

“Tracy is all about ‘clean eating’, which means no oils, spices or salt. With ‘baby eating’, the food is easily processed by the body. Tracy believes efficient digestion equals quick weight loss,” the source added. (ANI)

Date Night knocks Worthington off box office top spot

Tina Fey comedy Date Night scraped past the Greek mythology blockbuster Clash of the Titans to lead the North American box office this weekend, early industry figures showed.

The film, also starring The Office actor Steve Carell, follows a jaded married couple embroiled in wacky situations and explosive danger after embarking on a rare romantic evening out without their children.

It took in $US27.1 million to take the top spot, Exhibitor Relations reported.

Falling from first to second was Titans – starring Australian actor Sam Worthington – the critically panned adventure based on the exploits of Perseus and his battles with the serpent-haired Medusa and a fearsome sea monster, which took in $US26.9 million in its second week.

The animated adventure How to Train Your Dragon was in third place, pulling in $US25.3 million, while the African-American melodrama Why Did I Get Married Too? by writer, director, and actor Tyler Perry, came in a distant fourth with $US11 million in receipts.

The Last Song, a romantic teen-targeted Miley Cyrus flick, fell to fifth place in its second week in theatres with $US10 million in ticket sales.

Sixth place went to the live-action version of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice in Wonderland starring Johnny Depp, which has earned nearly $US319 million total, including $US5.6 million on the weekend.

The 3D wizardry kept time-bending jacuzzi users at bay for another week, with the R-rated comedy Hot Tub Time Machine earning $US5.4 million for seventh place.

That put it ahead of The Bounty Hunter, a comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, which came in eighth with a $US4.3 million take, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, an adaptation of the Jeff Kinney cartoon novels, which slipped a spot to ninth place with $US4.1 million.

Letters to God, which debuted at number 10 with $US1.2 million, follows the inspiring story of a young boy battling brain cancer.

Miramax’s film library a mixed bag of hits, duds

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – There might be a reason why bids for Miramax Films are coming in under parent company Disney’s $700 million asking price, and it’s not just recession-weary cost-consciousness at play.

Film

Rather, the library is a maze of disparate titles and murky rights. Yes, there are 14 prestige titles that competed for best picture Oscars, three of which nabbed the statuette, but there also is a lot of straight-to-video fare, quirky art pictures with little remake potential and other films whose ownership is unclear or hopelessly split.

Even the size of the library has been misstated over and over again. Various reports have placed it at 700 movies, but there are actually only 611 (as well as 220 hours of TV episodes), and only slightly more than half of those movies got a domestic theatrical release.

There also are five unseen movies in the mix: Julie Taymor’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”; the Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy “The Switch” (formerly “The Baster”); the horror thriller “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”; the thriller “The Debt”; and the romantic comedy “Last Night,” starring “Avatar” leading man Sam Worthington.

In its history, Miramax released 359 movies in the domestic theatrical market, and among those only 10 grossed more than $100 million. The biggest success was “Chicago,” released in 2002, which grossed $170 million.

Many of the other releases are less desirable, such as “Drag Strip Girl” and “The Deep End.” There are also Asian kung fu movies and direct-to-DVD titles.

Additionally, Miramax owns only certain rights in specific parts of the world for “The Aviator” and “Reservoir Dogs,” for example. There also are some movies that originally were licensed for a period of years, typically 25, and are within 10 years of lapsing if the terms are not renegotiated.

Deadlines for bids had been set initially for March 31, but Disney has had to postpone that at least twice. The three bidders for the niche label, which Disney bought from founders Bob and Harvey Weinstein in 1993, have different approaches.

The Weinsteins are the management component of a group bidding $600 million, with the equity coming from California billionaire Ron Burkle, who is joined by Fortress Investment Group and Colbeck Capital Management. Out of that bid, about $50 million-$100 million would be paid out during the next few years as a loan from Disney but wouldn’t be contingent on the performance of the movies.

No matter who wins Miramax, the Weinsteins retain rights from their 2005 exit agreement with Disney on more than 25 titles that can only be remade with their participation or approval.

The highest bidder is a group put together by David Bergstein, CEO of Pangea Media Group. Bergstein, who is facing an involuntary bankruptcy filing by creditors who claim he owes them millions of dollars, said Thursday he is acting only as an adviser to the group.

He said the investors include his frequent partner Ronald Tutor, a construction magnate, and two foreign entities he declined to identify. Theirs was an all-cash $650 million bid and would have been raised to $700 million if Disney had been willing to include the upcoming animated movie “Gnomeo and Juliet,” he said.

The third investor group, with a bid of $550 million, is Platinum Equity Partners, run by Tom Gores, and an investment firm run by his brother Alec. They are being advised by their brother Sam, who heads the Paradigm talent agency. The Gores’ bid is for all cash, and their plan apparently is to ramp Miramax up and run it as a stand-alone movie company again.

Disney did not return calls seeking comment. Spokesmen for the Gores and for the Weinsteins declined comment.

Aniston faces criticism as ‘The Bounty Hunter’ bombs at BO

New York, April 1 (ANI): Jennifer Aniston has been heavily criticized after her latest film ‘The Bounty Hunter’ bombed at the box office.

The actress’ heavily promoted romantic comedy with Gerard Butler has pulled in just 38.4 million dollars domestically in its first 10 days of release.

The former ‘Friends’ star’s ‘Love Happens,’ another romantic comedy with Aaron Eckhart, grossed 22.9 million dollars in the US – which was still way ahead of ‘Management’ with Steve Zahn, which grossed just 935,000 dollars.

“Aniston just can”t play the good friend anymore. She”s aged out, no matter the yoga and the highlights. She just can”t do America”s sweetheart next door. She needs a big wake-up call,” the New York Post quoted one film critic as saying.

“And as for her taste in men, it”s totally off. John Mayer? Gerard Butler? She”s missing a common-sense gene,” the critic added.

One movie producer said: “It”s hard for any TV stars to make the transition to movies. Certainly no one else from ”Friends” made it.” (ANI)
