Helen Mirren, Sophia Loren in ‘World’s Top 10 Most Beautiful Women’ list

London, May 10 (ANI): They are old, but still beautiful. Veteran actresses Helen Mirren, Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Loren have made it to the list of ‘World’s Top 10 Most Beautiful Women’.

Clothing firm Wizard Jeans came up with the rankings after assessing media and photo coverage, attracted by famous women, over the past year.

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, 36, topped the list, while Claudia Schiffer, who turns 40 in August, came second.

Meanwhile, French star Deneuve, 67, found the fifth spot and Dame Helen Mirren, 65, came sixth.

Also, Italian Sophia Loren, 76, was in tenth place as the oldest beauty in the league.

“As someone once said, the difference between pretty and beautiful is that pretty is temporal, whereas beautiful is eternal,” the Daily Express quoted Sally Allen from the firm, as saying. (ANI)

Gun used in home invasion

Police are seeking witnesses to an armed home invasion in the eastern Perth suburb of Ascot.

A 35-year-old woman answered the door of her Tibradden Circle home about half past nine last night to be confronted by a man pointing a gun at her head.

The man forced his way inside and demanded money but the woman managed to escape.

The man fled with a small amount of cash and a mobile phone.

He is described as fair skinned, about 178 centimetres tall, of slim build and wearing a black hooded jumper and black jeans.

People smuggler avoids jail in Indonesia

The people smuggler responsible for trying to send 250 Sri Lankans to Australia last year has avoided a jail sentence.

An Indonesian judge has issued Abraham Lauhenapessy, or Captain Bram as he is better known, with a one-year suspended sentence and a $3,000 fine.

Dressed in jeans and a black shirt, Captain Bram, 49, kept his eyes lowered in court.

He was jailed for people smuggling-related offences in 2007, but in court today the judge said he took into account Captain Bram’s clean record.

The judge said while the people smuggler had been well behaved and frank, his actions had endangered maritime security.

Indonesia does not have people smuggling laws, but president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has promised to bring them in soon.

Five months on, the asylum seekers Captain Bram was transporting to Australia are still refusing to leave their boat at the port of Merak.

‘Disrespectful’ Jack Tweed delays Jade Goody memorial service

London, March 22 (ANI): Jade Goody’s widower Jack Tweed reportedly showed disrespect after arriving at the star’s memorial service in London more than half an hour late.

The former jailbird’s late arrival allegedly led to the entire ceremony, to mark the first anniversary of the reality star’s death, be delayed.

The 22-year-old, dressed in scruffy jeans, sunglasses and a cardigan, also stayed away from his late wife’s grave during the official unveiling of her new headstone, The Daily Star reported.

Jack’s spokesman said: “Jack was picked up by one of the bridesmaids and claims they were 10 minutes late because they had a long way to come through a lot of traffic.

“He was planning to go to the grave last night but didn’t want to do it when everyone was still there.”

The Big Brother celebrity died aged 27 from cervical cancer on Mother’s Day last year. (ANI)

Hunt for convicted sex offender

The Victorian Government has foreshadowed tougher controls for sex offenders on supervision orders.

This follows a police manhunt for a 36-year-old convicted sex offender who fled from his supervising officer, while on a day trip to Melbourne yesterday.

The man is required to stay at an approved residential address as part of his community supervision order.

He was being escorted back to western Victoria yesterday when he told a corrective services officer he needed to go to the toilet.

They stopped at a cafe in a Melbourne suburb but he fled through a rear door.

The 36-year-old has brown shoulder length hair and was wearing a black and tan jacket, faded grey jeans and a black t-shirt.

Police are warning anyone who sees him not to approach him and to contact police.

The Premier, John Brumby, says supervision protocols will be enhanced if they are found to be lacking.

“The Minister has sought a full report and investigations on this from the Corrections Commissioner,” he said.

“It’s not for me to pre-empt that, but I would think that that report would lead us in the direction of closer restrictions and tighter controls,” the Premier said.

London, Sept 16 (ANI): Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger’s daughter showed off her patriotic colours by painting herself red, white and blue for a hot photoshoot.

The 17-year-old Georgia, youngest daughter of Jagger and Jerry Hall stripped to bra and jeans painted red, blue and white for American denim brand Hudson.

She is seen gracefully reclining on the backdrop of a Union Jack and pouts provocatively at the camera in the photos.

The campaign is Georgia’s first big shoot since being snapped up by a modelling agency last year.

Chinese firm angers Iranians by creating jeans line with Islamic expression

London, Sep.16 (ANI): A Chinese clothing company has angered Iranians by creating a line of jeans bearing the Islamic expression “In the name of God, the compassionate, the merciful”.

The marketing ploy backfired because the phrase “Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim” was prominently displayed on the pockets of the jeans’ backsides, something likely to be seen as disrespectful by devout Muslims.

The perceived slight, first reported in the Iranian media, prompted a firm response from the police who announced they had seized the garments and arrested three businessmen said to have imported them, The Guardian reports.

“In Islam, Allah is a respected word that you need to have ablutions before saying. Now it is embroidered on the sitting place of these jeans. Worse, they are sold in Tehran, which many would like to call the heart of the Islamic world,” a pro-Iranian government body said. (ANI)

Washington, August 30 (ANI): Cheryl Cole is reportedly set to shell out over 100,000 pounds on her wardrobe as she judges UK TV talent show ‘X-Factor’.

The singer was said to have already drawn a 59,000-pound bill on her clothes for the show and was allegedly looking to spend another 45,000 pounds on the outfits.

Ronaldo may soon crush Becks in battle of brands

London, August 21 (ANI): Football ace Cristiano Ronaldo, 24, may soon outstrip ageing England hero David Beckham, 34, for the number of commercial deals to his name, says a report.

The suggestion came after LA Galaxy fans heckled Beckham and his wife Victoria at the weekend.

“Beckham, because of his age and the stage of his career, has lost it. And Ronaldo is ideally placed to ass-ume the mantle of ‘brand Beckham’, especially among young kids and teenagers,” the Daily Star quoted sports branding expert Prof Simon Chadwick, from Coventry University, as saying.

Ronaldo has already bared his chest in ads for Pepe Jeans. He has also campaigned for Nike, Coca-Cola, video game FIFA Street 2, and energy drink Extra Joss.

The news report further reveals that Ronaldo raked in 12million pounds a year at Manchester United from product endorsements, compared with Becks’ 25.5million pounds in his heyday.

He has also been snapped up as a “global ambassador” for engine oil firm Castrol.

However, how much money goes into his banks will eventually depend on his performance on the pitch, says the report.

Veteran football agent Jon Holms said: “Ronaldo is probably a better player than Beckham. Beckham is a workhorse of a player, while Ronaldo seems to be more natural.” (ANI)

65yr-old German caught with cocaine worth #277,000 sewn into underpants!

London, August 19 (ANI): Customs officers in Barcelona recently caught a German pensioner with cocaine worth 277,000 pounds stored inside the neoprene shorts he was wearing underneath his jeans.

According to reports, 160 canisters of the drug, weighing 6.6kg, had been sewn into his underpants.

The drug was discovered after customs workers were alerted to his suspiciously large behind.

“He wasn’t a big man but he had a very bulky rear end. Then when he sat down it was like he was sitting on eggshells. His backside and his legs looked like they belonged to a weightlifter,” the Telegraph quoted one official as saying.

The 65-year-old German, who flew into Barcelona from South America, was arrested and jailed.

The customs officer added: “We’ve seen all sorts of stunts but the big pants were a first for us.”

The incident came just days after a man was arrested after he stuffed 25kg of cocaine into 407 courgettes, and attempted to get to New York.

He was intercepted at the airport of Las Americas, Santa Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. (ANI)

Washington, June 30 (ANI): Eva Mendes has slammed critics for comments that her body looks thin and skeletal in her recently shot Calvin Klein Underwear advertisement campaign.

“I don’t have a starving body. I have a healthy toned body. I don’t think people should criticise my advert. I prepped for it a lot and I think it’s great. It was in the desert and we were all oiled up for it. That’s my job!” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

In the advertisement, the ‘We Own the Night’ actress poses alongside actor Jamie Dornan on a sandy beach wearing just undergarments.

The bombshell also featured in the Calvin Klein Secret Obsession advert last year in which she was seen writhing topless on a bed.

The advert was later banned after the US bosses said it was ‘too sexy’ for family viewing.

However, Mendes loved the advert, she said: “I love it. That means the ads are totally Calvin, totally provocative and a little controversial.

“In the commercial you’ll see me rolling around in bed a lot, that’s basically all I do. I have been a fan of Calvin Klein’s Obsession ads since I can remember.

UP government warns colleges against jeans ban

Lucknow, June 23(ANI): The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued a stern notice to all colleges in the state not to impose any ban on jeans for girl students or face punitive actions.

“Action will be taken against any college aided by the Government of UP if anything is done against the law of the land,” said Kamran Rizvi , Education Secretary.

He said the provisions of University Act could be raised to take steps against colleges who impose any kind of dress code on students.

Earlier, Principals of many colleges in Uttar Pradesh had agreed to a proposal to ban students from wearing jeans on campus and work out a dress code for them.

Four colleges, affiliated with Kanpur University, had prohibited their students from wearing jeans. The authorities took the step following several complaints of eve-teasing that were occurring just outside the college gate. (ANI)

Kanpur college girls oppose dress code in campus

Kanpur, June 23 (ANI): The controversial ban of college authorities prohibiting girls to wear jeans to prevent incidents of eve-teasing has triggered furious reaction from college girls here.

College girls consider the decision deprives them of their basic freedom to wear something like ‘jeans’, is unreasonable.

“The dress code which has been implemented in the colleges is totally wrong. We are not wearing anything wrong. Moreover, we don’t belong to any primary school who need to be told what to wear and what not to. In addition to this, there is a ban on the mobile phones which I think is also totally wrong if we do not have mobiles with us how will be we able to inform our parents about our whereabouts?,” said Twisha.

Four colleges, affiliated with Kanpur University, have prohibited their students from wearing jeans. The authorities decided to take the step after receiving several complaints of eve-teasing that were occurring just outside the college gate.

Meanwhile, the district administration has welcomed the decision.

“The universities have implemented this decision. It is right that there should be a dress code in the schools and colleges and if the universities think that by implementing this step discipline in the colleges will improve, we welcome this decision,” said Anil Kumar Sagar, District Magistrate of Kanpur.

With both supporters and the opponents equally vociferous the dress code controversy is there to stay. (ANI)
