The event celebrated 85 years of Chrysler heritage and honored four automotive and entertainment icons with the Walter P. Chrysler Legacy Award: Former Chrysler Chairman and CEO Lee Iacocca; “Tonight Show” Host and Car Collector Jay Leno; NASCAR Champion Richard Petty; and former Chrysler Design Chief Virgil Exner, who was honored posthumously and represented by his son Virgil Exner, Jr.

The Legacy Gala was also the official launch of the Walter P. Chrysler Legacy Campaign with Museum Foundation Board of Directors Chairman Frank Fountain announcing that $1 million in contributions have been raised to date. The campaign is a multi-year, multi-million initiative designed to ensure the Museum’s long-term viability.

“The Legacy Gala was a coming out party, of sorts, to tell the world we’re now a nonprofit, dedicated as ever to showcasing Chrysler’s rich heritage for decades to come,” said Fountain. “What better way than with a joyous celebration of decades of creativity and ingenuity that began with the inspiration and passion of one very enterprising man?

“This was a grand occasion to salute the achievements of four outstanding gentlemen and welcome a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of current and retired Chrysler executives, auto enthusiasts and industry leaders, as well as our colleagues throughout the community to our magnificent Museum.”

The evening began with a Michigan-inspired strolling dinner throughout the Museum’s three floors featuring a menu created by renowned caterers, 2Unique of Royal Oak, Mich. The fresh fare capitalized on seasonal ingredients grown and produced within the state.

The festivities moved to the Legacy Gala Theatre – a tent adjacent to the Museum – for the inaugural Walter P. Chrysler Legacy Circle induction ceremony, hosted by news anchor Devin Scillian of WDIV-TV4. Following Fountain’s welcome and announcement of the Museum Foundation’s Legacy Campaign launch, each inductee was honored with a video spotlighting his personal and professional achievements, and introduced into the Legacy Circle by gentlemen who are VIPs in their own right:

* Inducting Iacocca was Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive Officer, Chrysler Group LLC;
* Inducting Leno was Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC;
* Petty was inducted by Frank Ewasyshyn, Board of Directors, Walter P. Chrysler Museum Foundation and Retired Executive Vice President – Manufacturing, Chrysler Group LLC; and
* Inducting Exner was Ralph Gilles, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dodge Car Brand and Senior Vice President of Product Design, Chrysler Group LLC and Board of Directors, Walter P. Chrysler Museum Foundation.

Rounding out the event were silent and live auctions of extraordinary items, including A Day With Richard Petty and A Private Tour of Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage and Tickets to “The Tonight Show.”

The piece de resistance was a full length performance donated by Jay Leno for the occasion.

Biden: It’s okay U.S. only got 4 for 10 in spy swap

(Reuters) – Vice President Joe Biden said it was all right that the United States only got four accused spies from Russia while giving up 10.

“We got back four really good ones,” Biden said on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Friday night. “And the 10, they’ve been here a long time, but they hadn’t done much.”

When comedy host Leno showed Biden an alluring photo of accused Russian spy Anna Chapman, a darling of New York tabloids, Biden had a quip ready.

“Let me make it clear, it wasn’t my idea to send her back,” he said.

“I thought they’d take Rush Limbaugh,” Biden said of the conservative talk show radio host who is a constant thorn in the side of Biden’s Democrats.

Russia and the United States conducted the biggest spy swap since the Cold War on Friday, trading agents on the Vienna airport tarmac in the climax to a drama that had threatened improving ties.

TV producers bruised, but unbowed after battles

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Ann Biderman remembers exactly when she lost faith in NBC.

Television | Media

It was May 19, 2009, when the network announced it was turning the Monday-Friday 10 p.m. slot over to the ultimately ill-fated “Jay Leno Show.”

“That was the first clue that they didn’t know what they were doing,” says Biderman, who feared what the plan meant for “Southland,” her critically acclaimed series about the gritty lives of LAPD cops.

“We were promised that (moving to) 9 p.m. wouldn’t affect content,” she says. “But then, of course, they started worrying.”

So much so that, in early October, a mere three weeks before “Southland’s” Second 2 premiere, the network abruptly canceled the series.

“At first I thought it was a joke,” Biderman says of hearing the news from fellow executive producer John Wells. “Like, where’s the ‘Punk’d’ camera? We were devastated.”

Fortunately, executives at TNT were fans of “Southland” and by November 2 the cable network closed a deal for the show, which was recently picked up for a third season.

For producers like Biderman, the process of crafting quality drama can be every bit as dramatic as the story lines they create.

The challenges to the creative process can be relatively small (wardrobe, scheduling) or utterly vital to a show’s future (deciding the right time to kill a main character or when to kill a series).

For Graham Yost, creator/executive producer of FX’s “Justified,” the obstacle was a cowboy hat.

As worn by Timothy Olyphant, who plays U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, the hat isn’t merely a wardrobe piece, but a symbol of rebellion against his criminal father.

Author Elmore Leonard, who also serves as an executive producer on the drama, felt strongly about which hat Olyphant should wear. He thought it was a given that the lawman would sport the same well-worn, small-brimmed businessman-style Stetson his character did “Fire in the Hole,” Leonard’s short story in which Givens first appeared.

But a test run on Olyphant left Yost underwhelmed.

“It just didn’t fit right with Tim’s head and face,” he says. “It needed to be bigger.”

Like one of his own tell-it-like-it-is characters, the 84-year-old author stood his ground.

Yost tried to compromise and e-mailed Leonard pictures of Olyphant in numerous hats during the course of the next month. He found himself torn between selecting the right wardrobe for the story and pleasing the man whose books and short stories he’d long admired.

Shortly before production began on the pilot in California, Yost decided to go with a large, crisp cowboy hat he loved.

Leonard still isn’t thrilled. (Lucky for Yost though, the author loves the show. He’s even been inspired to write another Raylan Givens novella.)

The breakneck pace of creating television leaves as little time for wardrobe debates as it does for international casting crises.

Neal Baer discovered this the hard way in 2006 when he offered a guest role on “Law & Order: SVU” to French actress Leslie Caron too close to the start date for her to easily get a work visa.

“We had to go to the late Sen. Kennedy to have his office expedite things,” Baer recalls.

Eager to avoid a similar scenario again last season, the showrunner began courting French movie star Isabelle Huppert in February with an eye toward casting her in the May 11 season finale.

He handcrafted for her the meaty role of a grieving and unstable mother. An impressed Huppert eagerly signed on.

The visa was secured. All was well.

Then, on April 12, as Huppert was preparing to fly from Paris to New York, where “SVU” shoots, the Icelandic volcano erupted and grounded thousands of European flights.

Baer was left scrambling, again.

“‘Can we drive her to Madrid?’ ” he wondered at the time. “Some planes were getting out of there.”

Ultimately, forming a contingency plan was moot. At the last minute, Huppert escaped Paris on an overnight flight and went straight to the New York set.

The actress told Baer she felt “like she did three movies in five days.”

“To have her in the show was thrilling,” he says. “What we went through … it was certainly worth it.”

For “Dexter” executive producer Sara Colleton, Season 4 of her Showtime hit revolved around one pivotal question: Could the drama’s central character — a blood-splatter analyst, husband, new father and serial killer — really have it all?

The most dramatically satisfying answer, of course, was no.

In mapping out the season’s arc, Colleton and her stable of writers decided that Dexter (Michael C. Hall) would need to pay for his hubris, and the price would be steep.

“It had to be what mattered most to him,” Colleton says. “It came to feel inevitable.”

That inevitability became the series’ most shocking moment.

In the finale, having finally disposed of the Trinity Killer (John Lithgow), Dexter returns home to a gruesome scene: His lovely blonde wife Rita (Julie Benz), Trinity’s final victim, lay dead in the bathtub with his baby son Harrison sitting on the floor in a pool of his mother’s blood.

Filming Benz’s death scene was “very emotional,” she says. “The night on set was also respectful, and quiet. Everyone there understood how important that moment was.”

Following through with her creative vision proved more difficult than she anticipated. Colleton calls killing Rita and, as a result, letting go of a series regular she loved, her “toughest decision” of the entire series.

“I hope I never to have to do something like that again on this show,” she says. “I can’t handle it. For me, it was like a death in the family.”

Killing a main character is one thing. Asking network executives to end your series while it’s still Nielsen gold is nearly as wild a notion as a show about an island inhabited by polar bears and a smoke monster.

Luckily, wild notions work well for Carlton Cuse.

During “Lost’s” third season in 2007, the executive producer and his co-showrunner Damon Lindelof thought hard about their drama’s future.

“The audience was recognizing that we’d slowed our narrative storytelling to a crawl,” Cuse says. “But we were really fearful of burning through story fuel too fast because we didn’t know how long the mythology had to last — two years or nine.”

Announcing an end date would reassure fans they had a master plan for the complex ABC drama and hopefully keep them invested, but also save “Lost” from what they saw as a fate worse than brevity.

“We didn’t want an ‘X-Files’ trajectory,” Cuse says. “If Chris Carter had been able to end that show earlier, there would be a vastly different perception of it now. It’s terrible that the end seasons negate the incredible accomplishment of the first ones.”

Although confident in their decision, Cuse felt “high anxiety” when he and Lindelof made their pitch to Stephen McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment Group, and Mark Pedowitz, then the president of ABC Studios.

They were prepared to quit if the execs balked.

But to their immense relief, McPherson and Pedowitz agreed to wrap “Lost” after a total of six seasons, and Cuse and Lindelof signed lucrative deals keeping them at the helm for the extent of the drama’s run.

Today, having secured “Lost’s” legacy as one of the most respected and influential shows in TV history, Cuse is grateful he and Lindelof stuck to their guns.

“Getting the end date was the most significant moment in the history of the show,” he says. “We told the story we wanted to tell and we stand by it.”

But it was the delivery that made Obama take the cake.

“I”m sure they gave the President twice as many jokes. I think a lot of the success had to do with the ones the President chose. His taste is impeccable He also let himself be funny. Most of the time the job demands that he hold back,” saod Apatow.

“Jay wasn”t bad. The video bits were nice. But he was reading from notecards. The gags didn”t fly, ” said one guest. (ANI)

Hugh Grant’s post-scandal chat declared best moment of Leno’s Tonight Show

Entertainment Weekly magazine has put together the best bits of comedian Leno, who is set to end his 17-year tenure with the late-night show on May 29.

And Grant’s interview, after he was taken into custody for misdemeanour lewd conduct in a public place with Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown, has taken the cake in the survey, reports Contactmusic.

“She takes dance classes. She’s six, but she already has the hip action. I’m looking at my six-year-old, going ‘Cha-cha!’ Really shaking it pretty good. And I’m going, ‘Man, I thought this happens like 10 years from now,” Michael said at The Jay Leno show.

He said that his son was no less talented, as he was a dazzling performer and knows Elvis’ tracks by heart.

Now, a book on Michelle Obama’s fashion choices

New York, May 5 (ANI): Michelle Obama is certainly one of the biggest fashion icons of recent times, and now a new book describing her fabulous fashion choices is set for release in the US tomorrow.

The book, Titled ‘Michelle Style: Celebrating the First Lady of Fashion’, is authored by former fashion magazine editor-in-chief Mandi Norwood and chronicles Mrs Obama’s signature looks.

It will talk about the First Lady’s varied fashion sense, right from the belted purple sheath dress she wore on the night her husband got the nomination.

And the tome will also detail the148 dollars White House Black Market black-and-white print dress she bought off the rack.

“It’s her journey to the White House through the filter of her style,” The New York Daily News quoted Norwood as saying.

Recalling the yellow J.Crew ensemble the First Lady wore on Jay Leno, which she purchased online for under 340 dollars, Norwood said: “Each outfit has a story around it.”

She added: “Suddenly we had this vision of the next First Lady sitting in bed, next to Barack, shopping online.”

And one of the biggest reasons behind her growing appeal is that her fashion sense reveals her to be one of us.

Norwood said: “In the past, First Ladies have always been slightly aloof. You’ve never really been able to emulate their style, even if you wanted to.”

However, with Michelle Obama’s love of pencil skirts, button down cardigans, simple sheath dresses and her liberal use of a thick black belt, her style is approachable.

In fact, when she wears off-rack-pieces from J.Crew or H and M, one can easily get the exact looks.

“I think she will reignite what America is known for in fashion and that is classic American sportswear. Bright separates, really comfortable clothes, clothes you don’t have to be a millionaire to look good in,” said Norwood. (ANI)

Hugh Jackman’s son loves pointing out ‘hot chicks’!

New Delhi, Apr 24 (ANI): Hugh Jackman has revealed that his eight-year-old son Oscar has an eye for attractive women.

The ‘X Men Origins: Wolverine’ actor, who raises Oscar and three-year-old Ava with wife Deborra-Lee Furness, said he can’t decide whether to be embarrassed or impressed when his son shows him attractive girls, reports The China Daily.

“My son is already scoping the crowd for chicks. It’s unbelievable.

“The other day he said to me, ‘Dad, two o’clock. Hot chick.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ He goes, ‘They’re hot aren’t they?’ I go, ‘They’re about fourteen.’ They’re fourteen by the way. He’s eight. And so part of me is going, ‘Yeah, go on son,’ and part of me is like, ‘Oscar they’re fourteen, I can’t comment on whether they’re hot or not,” Jackman said on the Jay Leno show.

Hugh also added that Oscar only shows interest in his movie career when he wants to speak to a girl.

“He walks on over to them, I swear, he walks over and I could hear him, he goes, ‘Hi, how are you? I just want you to know my dad is Wolverine.’ He doesn’t normally talk to me about Wolverine at all, it’s a funny thing, he’s normally quiet about it,” Hugh said. (ANI)

Biden bearing brunt of Obama’s ‘non-jokability’!

Chicago, Apr 19 (ANI): Since US President Barack Obama is hard to mock, jesters are turning their aim to Vice President Joe Biden.

If you’re wondering why Obama is “non-jokeable”, well it could be that jokers are reluctant to riff on a man they admire, or he’s simply a “no-joke making” human being.

“As a comedian, I’m gonna miss President Bush. Because Barack Obama is not easy to do jokes about. He doesn’t give you a lot to go on. This is why God gave us Joe Biden,” The Chicago Sun-Times quoted American TV host Jay Leno, as saying.

According to David Letterman, Biden’s most important responsibility is to pick up Obama’s daughters at school.

As far as Craig Ferguson is concerned, the Scottish-American television host says Obama gave Biden 12 cupcakes for the vice president’s birthday – “which is a smart gift to give Biden because when his mouth is full of cupcakes he can’t say anything stupid.”

Former Second City member Jason Sudeikis, on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” portrayed Biden as, in the words of one critic, “a contained lunatic.”

Sudeikis has said he developed his impersonation by “watching a lot of YouTube,” but mainly his impersonation is “all teeth.” (ANI)
