Madonna may work with Janet Jackson in MJ’s honour

London, Sept 18 (ANI): Madonna had a long cherished dream of singing with Michael Jackson, which could not materialise due the King of Pop’s untimely death. But now the pop diva is all set to work with another Jackson, Janet, it has emerged.

It is reported that Madonna and Janet met up last Sunday evening to discuss plans to honour MJ by “doing something together”.

The Mirror quoted a source as saying: “It was a meeting of two great musical try minds. Madonna was so impressed with Janet’s tribute to Michael that they started talking about how great it would be to honour him by doing something together.

“With that one performance, Janet proved she’s back on top of her game. And who better to join forces with than Madonna? There was definitely something very interesting being planned between them.”

According to Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, the 51-year-old singer was very eager to be a part of Jackson’s This Is It show at London’s O2 Arena.

MJ’s secret sister JohVonnie reveals her ‘snub’ pain

London, September 14 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s half-sister has revealed that the pop legend wasn’t warm to her when she met him during a family get together.

JohVonnie Jackson, whose mum was a lover of MJ’s dad Joe, is close to her father.

She claims that the Jacksons have shunned her for 35 years but was once invited to the ‘Thriller’ hitmaker’s Neverland ranch in 2003 when the clan got together.

Also, JohVonnie alleges that she wasn’t allowed to talk to either the late singer or her half-sister Janet when she attended their concerts.

“I feel rejected by some of my family. It’s upsetting and hurtful,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

Referring to her meeting with the late singer she said: “It was a big moment for me. But Michael was looking at me and seemed cold. He just said, ‘Hi’ and then he saw my daughter Yasmine and was fascinated with her.”

Jackson made a mistake pronouncing her niece’s name and called her ‘Jasmine,’ which JohVonnie corrected.

She recollected: “He said, ‘OK, Yasmine with a Y’, and that was it. He never acknowledged that I was his sister, there was no hug or kiss, not even a handshake. No physical contact at all.

“I wanted to embrace him. I thought he would want to go some place quiet and sit and talk with me and ask me about my life and get to know me a little better.

“It was very hurtful. He was not interested at all.

“With my daughter he was totally different. She got hugs and kisses, everything I didn’t get. I was a little jealous. But there was a bunch of people there and I never did get a chance to speak to Michael properly. Again, there was this theme that I felt shut out.”

Apparently, JohVonnie spent that night at a nearby hotel and returned to Neverland the next day but she didn’t get to see her iconic half-brother.

She said: “Michael was in the main house. Yasmine and Paris were off playing for hours. Paris is such a sweet girl.”

Though she said she talked to brother Jermaine and sister Rebbie but insists: “None of my other siblings acknowledged me much.” (ANI)

Batman helmer abandons plans to direct movie version of The Prisoner

Washington, Aug 19 (ANI): Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has given up all plans of directing a film based on the cult British TV series The Prisoner.

Nolan was to direct a big budget blockbuster version of the 1968 show starring Patrick McGoohan, and his exit has now kicked of rumours that he plans to start early with his third Batman movie.

The director has, however, left behind The Prisoner in a complete mess. The movie’s producer Barry Mendel has said they might not be able to start on the film before movie executives see the level of success that its new TV version – featuring Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel – achieves.

Contactmusic quoted Mendel as telling CineFools: “Nolan has dropped out of it but we have a first draft (of the script) by David and Janet Peoples who wrote Twelve Monkeys. It’s a good draft and we’re working on the script right now.

“If the series was wildly popular that might effect us. The screenplay (we’ve got) is such a re-imagination of the series, if you think of The Avengers that wasn’t a commercially successful film but it was very much in the spirit of the original show, this looks and feels so different that the tenants of the show are apparent but the execution of it is so different that I think it is unrecognisable.” (ANI)

UK man makes up kidnap story to avoid wife’s nagging

London, Jul 4 (ANI): A man, who was weary of his wife’s nagging, made up a story that he had been kidnapped at knifepoint as he dared not tell her he had been to the bookies.

Peter Woodward, 57, told a court that in order to get away from his wife, he made up the story about being abducted by three armed men, and even reported it to the police at Crosby, Liverpool.

Prosecutor Sandra Arden told South Ribble Magistrates Court that on the morning of April 2, Woodward, of Leyland, Lancashire, had gone for a drive and then to the bookmaker’s, where he won some money.

On his return, to explain where he had been, the part-time cleaner made up a story that three men had carjacked him and made him drive 25 miles to Liverpool before robbing him of 90 pounds.

“A major investigation was commenced and the victim re-driven along the route,” the Daily Express quoted Arden as saying.

“In the end, he just wanted to go for a ride without answering to his wife.

“He went for a drive to Liverpool and thought up the kidnapping story to account for his movements,” she said.

But following a thorough police investigation, he admitted that he had in fact visited a bookmaker’s and had a large amount of cash on him.

He was arrested on May 6, and admitted falsely reporting an offence to police.

On July 3, Woodward, who was supported by his humiliated but loyal wife Janet, was ordered to pay 1,000 pounds compensation for the 185 man-hours the police put in investigating his claims at a cost of more than 5,000 pounds.

“It was due to the extensive investigation that Mr Woodward’s lies were uncovered,” Detective Sergeant John Cass, of South Ribble CID, said.

“All allegations made to the police have to be fully investigated, but it is a sad fact that some people do fabricate being victims of crime.

“Mr Woodward made a very serious allegation to the police, that he had been kidnapped, which will always be investigated extremely thoroughly.

“Mr Woodward was prosecuted due to the amount of time invested in this investigation, which could have been put to better use investigating real crime,” he added. (ANI)

Jacko refuses to reunite with brothers for London gigs

London, April 5 (ANI): King of Pop Michael Jackson has refused to sing with his brothers after they begged him to stage a Jackson 5 farewell.

Tito, 55, Marlon, 52, and Jackie, 57, all asked the ‘Thriller’ hitmaker if their band could reunite for one gig during one of his 50 sell-out performances at London’s O2 Arena this summer.

According to a family source, fifth brother Jermaine, 54, didn’t join his siblings in pleading for an emotional reunion, though he did say he’d appear if asked.

However, Michael has told them there is ‘no way’ he can accommodate a one-off gig with his brothers.

“The London gigs are probably the last chance they’ll ever have to appear together again but Michael just won’t do it,” the Daily Star quoted the source, as saying.

“Marlon, Jackie and Tito are all deeply hurt and furious over Michael’s refusal to sing with them.

“It would be so easy for him to have them on stage for a few numbers on one night in July or August. Jermaine isn’t so bothered because, I think, deep down he expected the reaction the others got.

“They feel badly rejected and believe that if it had been Michael’s sister Janet asking to guest star he’d have jumped at it because she’s much more famous and successful than they are.

“All four could use the cash they could have generated in just one night singing alongside Michael as The Jackson 5.

“The fans would have loved it but Michael has broken his brothers’ hearts by saying No,” he added. (ANI)

Smart dolphins use sponges as ‘accessories’ to make hunting easier

London, Jan 4 (ANI): A new study by researchers at Georgetown University in Washington DC has revealed that dolphins have developed tools to help them hunt for food.

According to the researchers, the discovery suggests that mammals could be even smarter than previously thought.

Bottlenose dolphins from an extended family in Australia’s Shark Bay have taken to protecting their noses with pieces of sponge when foraging for fish on the abrasive seabed.

According to the researchers, a single dolphin discovered the foraging technique by chance and then passed it on to her offspring.

Its use has had a marked impact on the dolphins’ hunting and social behaviour as the animals deploying the sponge tool spend more time alone, rummaging through sand.

The researchers said that discovering a new tool is a direct sign of intelligence.

“There’s a strong link between animals with larger brains and tool users. Bottlenose dolphins have a brain second in size only to humans,” Times Online quoted Janet Mann, a marine biologist who led the research, as saying.

“Dolphins are already good at catching fish so they don’t need tools, but they’ve discovered this sponge makes their job easier. Working out how to use tools in a creative way like that is a hallmark of intelligence,” Mann added.

The foraging technique came to light a few decades ago when a local fisherman spotted what looked like a strange tumour on a dolphin’s nose.

Eventually, researchers worked out that the ‘tumour’ was a conically shaped sponge and it became apparent that the dolphins would spend considerable time searching for one the right shape to fit their nose.

The sponge is used to scatter the sand gently on the sea floor and disturb buried fish. When a fish is spotted, the dolphin drops the sponge and gives chase.

During the study, the researchers also discovered that although dolphins tried to teach the hunting technique to all their young, it was mainly female offspring that grasped the concept. (ANI)
