Jagan in Delhi after party asks him to stop yatra

Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has invited the displeasure of high command over his ‘Odarpu Yatra’, on Sunday left for New Delhi where he is expected to meet top party leaders.

Jagan, who has defied the high command’s directive not to undertake the yatra, is expected to meet senior leaders over the issue, sources said.

Congress Core Committee member and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had made it clear on Saturday that Jagan should call off his yatra as per the high command’s directive.

The Congress central leadership had asked Jagan not to go ahead with his ‘Odarpu Yatra’ in Telangana in view of the surcharged atmosphere in the region.

Defying the directive, Jagan, however, embarked on the yatra on May 28. The tour was to console the families of those who allegedly committed suicide or died of shock over the death of his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Violence took place at Mahabubabad railway station ahead of Jagan’s arrival, as Telangana supporters, who were opposing his visit, threw stones and clashed with the police.

Jagan would attend a meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance during his stay in Delhi, the sources added.

Elections 2009 a family affair in Andhra

Thursday, March 05, 2009, (Hyderabad)
The elections in Andhra Pradesh will be about a few privileged political families. Virtually every neta is looking to also field his son, daughter, brother in the elections. And so the dynastic rule continues in their own little backyards.

Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy could be the latest political kid on the block in elections 2009 in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy’s business tycoon son, could be the Congress candidate for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.

“I am in a dilemma. I have still not yet made up my mind as I am caught in between running this newspaper and getting into politics,” says Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR’s son.

Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Rashtra Samiti supremo, K Chandrasekhar Rao is also in the running to follow in her father’s footsteps and contest the assembly elections. This would mean, four TRS candidates would be from the KCR family KCR, his son, his nephew and Kavitha.

“I have seen people in and around the house and we understand the grassroot level problems from the childhood. So it is easy to relate to the people. It is not easy also because they always compare you with your father. My father is a legendary figure in Telangana,” says Kavitha.

Testing the waters in April would also be members of Chiranjeevi’s family, the NTR clan in the Telugu Desam, apart from the sons, daughters, daughters-in-law, spouses and relatives of several ministers and ex-ministers.

And so, as it looks, the battle in 2009 will clearly be a family affair in Andhra Pradesh.
