Brit woman in Dubai kissing case goes to jail

London, April 21 (ANI): The British woman, who was convicted of indecency for kissing a man in Dubai, gave up the battle to prove her innocence and went to jail.

Charlotte Adams went to jail because she could no longer afford to fight the case or waste any more time stuck in Dubai, where her passport was taken away pending the outcome of the case.

She was allegedly seen passionately kissing Ayman Najafi, who works for a consultancy firm, in a diner at the Jumeirah Beach Residence.

They were both awarded one-month prison sentences last month for breaching strict public decency laws.

The pair lost an appeal last month against their convictions.

“Charlotte didn”t have the time or resources to appeal again. It”s not an admission of guilt. She just had no chance – if she had an income and resources she would have fought on,” the Telegraph quoted Najafi as saying. (ANI)

Stewart to stand trial in September

NRL star Brett Stewart will face trial in September over claims he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl after his club’s 2009 season launch.

The 25-year-old Manly fullback was last month committed to stand trial over the alleged assault.

Today, Stewart appeared on crutches in Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court when his matter was briefly mentioned.

Justice Peter Berman set a trial date of September 13.

Stewart has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual intercourse without consent and assault with an act of indecency.

The alleged incident happened in March last year outside the teenager’s North Manly apartment complex.

Stewart did not say anything in court today and declined to speak to reporters outside.

Abuse claims: Catholic priest arrested again

A Catholic priest already facing 20 charges of child sex abuse has today been charged over another alleged offence at a convent in the New South Wales Hunter Valley.

The 48-year-old has been charged by Strike Force Georgiana, which is investigating allegations members of the clergy abused scores of children in the region.

The man went to Raymond Terrace Police Station this morning and was charged with committing an act of indecency to a child under 16.

Police say the charges relate to the alleged assault of a child at a former Maitland convent in the 1980s.

The man was granted conditional bail to face Newcastle Local Court on May 5.

The strike force has charged six people with a total of more than 200 offences.

It is urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim of child sexual abuse or who could assist the investigation to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

65yo jailed for molesting granddaughter

A former Sunday school teacher who molested his 14-year-old granddaughter at his Canberra home has been sentenced to a year in jail.

The 65-year-old man – who cannot be named – committed an act of indecency on his granddaughter in November last year.

The offence occurred while she was sitting on his lap watching television and later in another room.

The man admitted he had been assaulting the girl for six months.

The ACT Supreme Court heard he thought she enjoyed it but was now shocked at his actions.

The court was told he had undergone a healing process at his church and had been forgiven by the congregation.

Justice Richard Refshauge said the victim should not feel at fault because she reported the incidents.

The 65-year-old will serve three months in full-time custody followed by nine months in periodic detention.

MP’s son assaulted woman in park, court hears

The son of New South Wales Labor MP John Aquilina has appeared in court on a sexual assault charge.

Jeremy Aquilina, 25, is charged with sexual assault and indecency.

He is accused of attacking a 22-year-old woman in a park near his house at St Clair, in Sydney’s west, earlier this month.

Aquilina faced Penrith Local Court this morning but has yet to enter a plea.

His bail has been continued until the matter returns to court in June.

Sudan’s Bashir warns drinkers face lash

Sudan’s president warned people caught selling, drinking or brewing alcohol would be lashed, despite complaints from rights groups, as he addressed an election rally outside Khartoum on Thursday.

“Anybody who drinks alcohol, we lash them. Anybody who makes alcohol, we lash them. Anybody who sells alcohol, we lash them. I don’t care about the U.N. or human rights organisations,” Omar Hassan al-Bashir said in a speech broadcast on Sudan’s Blue Nile television.

Bashir, a powerful public speaker who regularly peppers his rallies with broad nationalistic and Islamic appeals, spoke in Omdowan, a village just east of the capital, known as a religious centre.

The president, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court to face charges of war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region, has thrown himself into a nationwide campaign tour ahead of elections due to start next month.

Alcohol is banned in Muslim north Sudan and whipping is a common punishment for anyone caught drinking, brewing or selling it.

Rights groups have complained about lashing sentences handed out against women caught brewing alcohol in Khartoum, many of them from the non-Muslim south.

Sudan’s brand of Islamic law has come under the international spotlight in recent years. A British teacher was jailed after letting her class name a teddy bear Mohammad in 2007 and a Sudanese journalist was imprisoned in September after being convicted of indecency for wearing trousers. Both women had faced a maximum sentence of flogging.

Nigerian football star Stephen Worgu last year said he had been sentenced to 40 lashes after being convicted of drunk driving in Khartoum.

Worgu, who plays for Omdurman club Al Merreikh, said he was innocent.

Obama attempts to censor images Abu Ghraib sexual abuse

London, May 28 (ANI): US President Barack Obama is attempting to censor images of apparent rape and sexual abuse at Iraq’s infamous Abu Ghraib prison, it has emerged.

At least one picture shows an American soldier raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee, reports The Telegraph.

Further photographs are said to depict sexual assaults on prisoners with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube. Another apparently shows a female prisoner having her clothing forcibly removed to expose her breasts.

Detail of the content emerged from Major General Antonio Taguba, the former army officer who conducted an inquiry into the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq.

Allegations of rape and abuse were included in his 2004 report but the fact there were photographs was never revealed. He has now confirmed their existence in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.

The graphic nature of some of the images may explain Obama’s attempts to block the release of an estimated 2,000 photographs from prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan despite an earlier promise to allow them to be published.

Major General Taguba, who retired in January 2007, said he supported the President’s decision, adding: “These pictures show torture, abuse, rape and every indecency.

“I am not sure what purpose their release would serve other than a legal one and the consequence would be to imperil our troops, the only protectors of our foreign policy, when we most need them, and British troops who are trying to build security in Afghanistan. The mere description of these pictures is horrendous enough, take my word for it,” he added.

The latest photographs relate to 400 cases of alleged abuse between 2001 and 2005 in Abu Ghraib and six other prisons. Mr Obama said the individuals involved had been “identified, and appropriate actions” taken. (ANI)

Couple arrested for having sex in car in front of kids

London, May 20 (ANI): An intoxicated American woman and her lover were arrested after cops spotted them having sex in their car as her two small children looked on.

Local police in Ohio reported that Danica Wallace, 24, and lover Jeremy Welch, 29, “pulled off the roadway to have sex” in the Ford Taurus that she was driving.

When cops approached the vehicle, they found Wallace, naked from the waist down, astride Welch, who was in the front passenger seat, and her kids aged just four and 22 months sitting in the back.

“We got horny and just wanted to f***!!” the Sun quoted an “extremely intoxicated” Welsh as telling cops.

Wallace, on the other hand, claimed to have only drunk one bottle of Budweiser, but she failed a series of drink driving tests.

“I’m not completely drunk,” she said, as she pleaded with the police.

Wallace was charged with drunk driving, child endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Welch was charged with public indecency.

Wallace’s children were placed in the care of a pal. (ANI)

Boozy cop in hot soup over sick pic joke

London, April 26 (ANI): A WPC has lodged a complaint against a cop accusing him of posing with his manhood dangling in her face while she was sleeping and then texting the indecent pics to colleagues.

The pictures were taken earlier this month in Manchester’s Press Club where a group of Salford cops were boozing.

The cop suspected of sick prank has been put on restricted duties and could face gross indecency charges if the woman makes a criminal complaint.

“Among them was a WPC who’d fallen asleep. There had been a lot of macho banter during the evening and she became the focal point of that,” News of the World quoted a source as saying.

“One man pulled down his trousers and started striking very lewd poses.

“The pictures were shared around the division and the WPC found out about them and made a complaint,” the source added.

Gtr Manchester Police said: “Our Professional Standards Branch is investigating an allegation of gross misconduct.” (ANI)

Colin Farrell, Seth Rogen’s nasty remarks on Golden Globes spark censorship probe

Washington, Jan 19 (ANI): A whole slew of stars, including Colin Farrell, Seth Rogen and director Darren Aronofsky, have prompted a censorship investigation of the 2009 Golden Globe Awards’ telecast for making offensive remarks.

The awards, which hit television screens on January 11, saw Farrell and Rogen making jokes about cocaine, reports Contactmusic.

On the other hand, Aronofsky was caught giving actor Mickey Rourke the middle finger.

According to The Los Angeles Times, 18 complaints were filed against the NBC telecast, which led the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to launch an investigation.

The FCC “is reviewing the program for possible violations of indecency rules… after receiving multiple complaints,” reports the newspaper. (ANI)
