The New Yorker Hotel’s Discarded Amenities Now Recycled Into Life-Saving Tools

ORLANDO, FL, Jun 04 (MARKET WIRE) —
The New Yorker Hotel, the second hotel in New York to partner with Clean
the World, will now provide nearly 400 children annually with desperately
needed hygiene tools as part of an innovative program that recycles soap
and distributes it to impoverished people worldwide. The gently-used
amenities from the hotel’s 912 rooms will skip a trip to the landfills
and instead hit Clean the World’s Recycling Operations Center (ROCs).

“Now that we have The New Yorker Hotel on board, we are on track to open
our New York metro-area ROC,” said Peter Insalaco, Regional Director at
Clean the World. “We are thrilled to have them as part of our program.
We’re ready to bring New York to the forefront of the Clean the World
mission.”

Soap is both difficult to obtain in impoverished areas and crucial to
preventing the spread of diarrheal disease and pneumonia, two of the
biggest killers of children under age five.

With upwards of 75,000 hotel rooms in the New York area, a tremendous
amount of waste is generated from discarded hotel soap and amenities. “We
are extremely proud to help lessen needless waste and do it in a way that
also has humanitarian purpose,” said Sylvia Lima, general manager of the
New Yorker Hotel.

“The entire housekeeping department, when they heard of this tremendous
effort from Clean the World, were very excited to be a part of it,” said
Angela Sanchez, director of housekeeping.

Big-city amenities will continue to be recast with global purpose — just
ask Clean the World and The New Yorker Hotel.

Salman Rushdie’s “raffling off kisses” at NY auction?

New York, May 18 (ANI): Author Salman Rushdie donated an original work at an auction at the Standard Hotel in New York.

Brit Muslim boxer involved in brawl ahead of title fight

London, May 15 (ANI): WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan was dragged away by his throat in a shocking mass brawl at the weigh-in for tonight’s title fight with Paulie Malignaggi.

Kahn was caught in a huge bust-up at the 1,000 pounds-a-night at Essex House Hotel in New York, The Sun reports.

Malignaggi’s promoter Lou DiBella raged: “Did you see this s**t, my guy got roughed up. If there’s one more incident of this kind, he won’t be fighting on Saturday. That’s a promise. The weigh-in was closed to the public yet Khan had so many people there shouting and screaming.”

Around 50 noisy Khan fans packed into the Petit Salon at the Essex House Hotel and pumped up the volume as Khan and Malignaggi deliberately touched foreheads and aimed verbal abuse at each other, The Sun reports.

Suddenly the violence exploded and it descended into a mass brawl with Khan fans trying to wade in.

Malignaggi tumbled into the hoardings and Khan was surrounded by people from his promoters, Golden Boy, and then led him away, The Sun reports.

Anthony Cantanzaro, Malignaggi’s manager, shouted: “Khan’s people came in and started fighting on the stage.”

Malignaggi said: “If Golden Boy had done this like they were supposed to do, there would have been none of this. There was shoving and then suddenly all hell broke loose.” (ANI)

Michael Douglas” son gets 5yrs in prison for drug trafficking

New York, April 21 (ANI): Actor Michael Douglas’s son has been sentenced to five years in jail for drug trafficking.

Cameron Douglas was arrested last year at the trendy Gansevoort Hotel in New York. He pleaded guilty to drugs charges in January.

Federal Judge Richard Berman ruled on the side of leniency, sending the 31-year-old to just five years behind bars rather than the minimum of 10 under federal sentencing guidelines.

Prosecutors said the judge didn”t have to impose the minimum sentence, reports the New York Post.

With his actor father present in the crowded Manhattan courtroom, the judge said Douglas will serve only four years since he will get credit for the eight months he has spent in lockup since his arrest.

In court, Cameron apologized to his family and said that he was grateful for the chance to clean up his life.

“First, I”d like to apologize to my family … for my behavior. … I”d like to ask you for the opportunity to be a productive family member and a good role model,” he said.

Cameron will also have to pay a 25,000-dollar fine, serve 450 hours of community service once he is released and undergo weekly counselling sessions, including with members of his family. (ANI)

Lindsay chucked out of New York hotel after nasty row with Sam

London, September 19 (ANI): ‘Mean Girls’ star Lindsay Lohan was reportedly chucked out of a hotel in New York, after she has a nasty row with her lesbian lover Samantha Ronson.

Police were called to control the turbulent situation at the Bowery Hotel.

According to reports, Lindsay was so angry that she launched “a room-service tray at what she thought was her girlfriend’s door”.

The door, however, actually turned out to be of an an unsuspecting hotel guest, reports Hollyscoop.

Consequently, Lindsay was kicked out of the hotel.

Her family are apparently now desperate to send the volatile actress back to rehab, reports the Sun.

This is not the first time that the couple are in news over a row, for cops were called to Ronson’s LA home after a window was smashed during another blistering altercation earlier this year. (ANI)

‘Free sex shows’ turn NY hotel tourist attraction

New York, Aug 25 (ANI): The plush Standard hotel in New York has become a tourist attraction as randy guests are performing sex acts in front of the floor-to-ceiling hotel windows.

Guests at the hotel have been spotted romping, drying off and even pleasuring themselves in full view of onlookers.

People strolling in the newly opened High Line urban park near the hotel are witnessing a free peep show and now more people are flocking to the area to catch a glimpse.

Andre Landeros Michel, 34, a Chelsea designer, who regularly ventures over to view randy Standard guests having sex in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling windows in full view of the park, said that it’s a

“It’s a little peep show-but instead of being on 42nd Street, it’s down here at the High Line,” the New York Post quoted Landeros Michel as saying.

A Parks Department worker said that plenty of people come to the park specifically to watch the erotic exhibitionism.

Harlem resident Aaron Lipman, 34, a media research analyst who works near the park, said: “I think it’s healthy and fun — it’s flirtatious. It’s like ‘Wild Kingdom.’ (ANI)

Gisele Bundchen ‘too possessive’ about hubby Tom Brady

Washington, May 6 (ANI): Looks like recently married Gisele Bundchen has been bitten by the jealousy bug, for she was recently seen guarding hubby Tom Brady from other women at a party.

The newlyweds hit up SVEDKA Vodka’s Spring Fling Event on the Rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City on May 2, and reports suggest that the supermodel appeared to be particularly possessive about Brady.

During the party, when a female fan asked for a photo with the NFL star, Bundchen hastily interjected, and said: “Tom doesn’t really like to take pictures.”

“She wouldn’t let him out-of-her-sight. She was protective; she clung to him for the entire party,” Fox News quoted an eyewitness as saying.

Sources further revealed that the couple couldn’t keep their hands and lips off from each other throughout the party.

The insider said: “They couldn’t keep their hands off of each-other, full-on making out for much of the party only coming up for air to hit the dance floor. It got a bit uncomfortable. The only other guy Gisele would dance with was celebrity hair stylist Harry Josh who was hosting the party.” (ANI)
