Morrissey’s tribute to late superfan

London, May 5 (ANI): Singer Morrissey expressed his deep sympathies in a tribute that he penned for a long time fan who passed away last month.

After being told by DJ Janice Long of her death, the former The Smiths frontman paid homage to Melinda Hsu – who travelled thousands of miles to follow the singer””s tours – to thank her for giving him “strength” during his live shows.

In a statement, Morrissey writes: “I did not know Melinda personally, but I felt as if I did because she had been a front row fixture for many years… Mel was a smiling face who lent strength to every single concert, even when events were going somewhat pear-shaped.”

“I felt as if I knew Mel because she was always there – regardless of wherever ””there”” happened to be; no snowbound landscape too far, no off-the-beaten track too untrekkable (sic). I often handed her the microphone mid-concert and she would always make an effort to say something different each time.

“What is more, she always seemed so happy to be there on the front row, even though she had heard these live renditions enough times to emaciate the brain of the most inherently decent devotee… Her contribution was a declaration of love for which she seemed to save all of her strength, and for which I could only ever repay with half-witted mumbles of thanks,” The Daily Star quoted him as saying. Dalai Lama offers prayers to mark 51st anniversary of Tibetans’ uprising

Dharamsala, Mar. 10 (ANI): Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama offered prayers in Dharamsala on Wednesday to mark the 51st anniversary of Tibetans’ aborted uprising against the Chinese rulers.

Dressed in his traditional maroon and yellow robes, the Dalai Lama prayed for the souls of those who had died fighting for the Tibetan cause and praised those who continued their struggle against the Chinese in Tibet.

“On this occasion, I pay homage to those heroic Tibetan men and women, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet, and pray for an early end to the sufferings of those still oppressed in Tibet,” the Dalai Lama said on the occasion.

“Despite the great hardships Tibetans have faced for many decades, they have been able to keep up their courage and determination, preserve their compassionate culture and maintain their unique identity.”

“It is inspiring that today a new generation of Tibetans continues to keep Tibet”s just cause alive. I salute the courage of those Tibetans still enduring fear and oppression,” said Dalai Lama,” he added.

Thousands of Tibetan exiles, including Buddhist monks and nuns, along with foreign sympathisers gathered in the famous Tsuglagkhang temple to commemorate the event.

“This uprising was mainly to say that Chinese rule in Tibet was unjust and we wanted China to withdraw its troops from Tibet. So, since then Tibet is commemorating this important anniversary. The struggle of the people is to seek greater freedom for the people in Tibet,” said Thubten Samphel, spokesperson of Tibetan Government In-Exile.

His paintings depicting the mass of everyday people who contributed to the industrial machine of the 20th century also provide an interesting frame of reference for possible compositions,” Times Online quoted Tunick as saying.

Michael Howard, a lecturer in art and design at Manchester Metropolitan University and the author of LS Lowry: A Visionary Artist, claimed Lowry would have highly favoured Tunick’s project.

He said: “[Lowry] studied life drawing for 20 years, both the male and female form. So he would have been absolutely fascinated by it. He was obsessed by people and places.”
