England push New Zealand out of T20 WC with three wicket defeat

St.Lucia, May 11 (ANI): England cemented a berth in the semi-finals of the ICC World T20 Championship by defeating New Zealand by three wickets in their final game of the Super Eight stage of the tournament here.

England registered their third consecutive win in as many matches in the super eight stage as they chased down a modest target of 150 set by New Zealand with three wickets and five balls to spare.

English openers started with a bang racing to 57 for one at the end of the powerplay overs. Both Craig Kieswetter (15 runs of 12 balls) and Michael Lumb (32 runs of 21 balls) provided a solid base for the middle order.

Lumb took a liking for the extra pace of Shane Bond, hitting 19 runs off his first two overs.

However, there was a little hiccup in the middle when Scott Styris cleaned up both Ravi Bopara, who replaced in-form Kevin Pietersen, and skipper Paul Collingwood cheaply.

But Eion Morgan (40) and Luke Wright (24) added 52 in 38 balls to push the Kiwis out of the tournament.

For New Zealand, Bond and Styris grabbed two wickets each, while Neil McCullum, Kyle Mills and skipper Daniel Vettori took a wicket each.

Earlier, the England bowlers restricted the Black Caps to 149 for 6. Tim Bresnan was the most economical bowler with figures of one for 29 in four overs. Bresnan’s 23 not out of 11 balls was probably the icing on the cake for him and his side.

Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad were also among the wicket takers, as both grabbed two each.

Ross Taylor top scored for the Kiwis with 44 of 33 balls, while Brendon McCullum and Styris made 33 and 31 respectively. (ANI)

Ritu Kumar”s collection rules ramp on day one of Wills India Fashion Week

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): After a slight hiccup over a fire safety permit, the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW) Autumn-Winter 2010 that kicked off here witnessed models sizzle the ramp in designer Ritu Kumar”s outfits.

Designer Ritu Kumar showcased her collection, themed ”Label”. The collection was an ode to modern and career oriented women of a city.

Traditional shapes were moulded into defined curves, and textures were created through the use of fabric layering, print and embroidery.

Silk was used extensively in the collection in its various forms – net, jacquard, velvet, georgette, satin, knit.

Talking about her son and creative director of Kumar”s Label, Amrish Kumar, she said that he has tried to make the collection modern yet keeping in touch with the age-old Indian tradition.

“He is thinking of a very modern, career-oriented person, who reacts to these kind of clothes. But at the same time, there is a lot of ethnicity; there is a lot of use of Indian fabrics,” said Kumar.

“It is not as if it is something that has not come within the roots of India. But it has, but he has slanted it towards a different kind of age group, a different kind of lifestyle,” added Kumar.

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week kicks off in New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): After a slight hiccup over the lack of a fire safety permit, the 15th edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW) Autumn-Winter 2010 got off to a flying start here, showcasing the latest collections of India”s top fashion designers.

”Kotwara”, the collection named after one of Asia”s oldest Islamic dynasties, presented by Meera and Muzaffar Ali, saw models take to the catwalk in bright, playful colours and geometric prints.

Using fabrics ranging from silk, chiffon and even feathers, Meera Ali said they were looking to challenge the notion of luxury in the world of high fashion.

“The collection”s name is ”Greenhouse” and depicts the times of today. A greenhouse is an artificial space where living things are grown. So the collection is a philosophy based on shapes and what is considered luxurious,” said Meera Ali.

“Fur is a luxury according to some but there is no fur in our collection and we are trying to show other materials that can be seen as luxurious,” she added.

Designer Tarun Tahiliani steered away from his usual jewel tones and experimented with shades of navy, gray and cream.
Teemed with gold, ruby and fuchsia embellishment, Tahiliani said he wanted to recreate Indian glamour in his latest collection.

“This time we started working with very dull, muted colours as you can see. A very different colour palette and I wanted everything to be very luxurious. I think that this time we”ve gone back to Indian craft,” said Tahiliani.

“Fashion was galloping and racing and everyone was doing everything and it was very westernised. I consciously took it back to a much more modern Indian way,” he added.
