Black Widow surrenders weapons in Assam

Guwahati, Sep 16 (ANI): Over 170 guerillas of the Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) (DHDJ) or Black Widow have commenced surrendering their weapons from Wednesday.

Earlier on Sunday, nearly 193 rebels of the DHDJ had surrendered their weapons well ahead of the deadline given by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

Chidambaram had asked the banned ultras to surrender weapons before September 15.

The DHD (J) is responsible for creating terror in the North Cachar Hill District of Assam for last six years, during which over 300 people have been killed.

Among those who surrendered arms were Daniel Dimasa, Daku Dimasa, David Dimasa and Nalo Dimasa who were considered as hardcore militants.

According to the new rules for facilitating peace talks with the militant organization, an outfit has to first abjure violence by depositing weapons and stay away from extortion by moving to designated camps. Only its top leadership will be allowed to sit for talks.

Defence spokesman, Col.R Kalia, said those who have deposited weapons have been kept in two temporary camps at Kapuchera and Jatinga under heavy escort by troops of the Red Shield Division of the Army.

A formal surrender ceremony would be held at Haflong later in the month in the presence of the State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, sources said.

The breakaway group of the DHD (J) led by James Dimasa are still undecided on joining the peace process.

According to Additional Director General (Special Branch) Khagen Sarmah, all the cadres of the outfit are expected to surrender their weapons in the next couple of days.

The government has adopted a multi-dimensional strategy in North Cachar Hills with strong deployment of security forces.

The brigade headquarters of the Army at Haflong has coordinating all the efforts.

Till now 373 insurgents have come over-ground depositing 136 weapons including AK series weapons, M16 rifles, INSAS rifles, rocket launchers, grenades and wireless sets, sources said. (ANI)

No leadership role likely for ‘lateral entrants’ in BJP

New Delhi, Aug.31 (ANI): ‘Lateral entrants’, a term coined for non-RSS workers, are in for tough days ahead in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In the wake of recent wrangling in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) followed by the exit of senior leader Jaswant Singh and L.K. Advani’s aide Sudheendra Kulkarni, the party has decided to clip the feathers of ‘lateral’ entrants. It literally implies that the members, who are non-swayamsewaks, will no more be able to enjoy the power and clout they used to till recent past.

A senior leader, seeking anonymity, said, ” BJP has decided that the next BJP President will be a swayamsewak and will not be a ‘ lateral entry’. This will further strengthen the chances of hardcore RSS workers-Arun Jaitley, Bal Apte and Narendra Modi-being appointed as the new bosses of the organisation and put to rest speculations about Sushma Swaraj becoming the new President of the party after Rajnath Singh’s three-year term comes to its end by the end of this year.

According to a top BJP source, the cadres of the party are deeply pained by the recent statements made by Jaswant Singh and Advani’s aide Sudheendra Kulkarni who left the party citing that he has fundamental differences with BJP’s ideology.

Party believes that cadres across the country are deeply anguished by the conduct of ‘lateral’ entrants who enjoyed enormous power and were aspirants of holding top jobs if party had won. But they defected after the party lost in the elections.

According to sources, although party will downsize the clout of non-swayamsewaks in party affairs, it will not bar their entry into the party.

Source told ANI that BJP would welcome lateral entrants into the party in future on the basis of their professional ability and capacity.

It is learnt that RSS chief in his recent meetings with the BJP leadership had suggested that they should trim the role of lateral entrants in the BJP and promote swayamsewaks in the party.

Taking a dig at the so called intellectuals, who form the major chunk of ‘lateral entrants’ in the party, top source also said: “We have competent cadres who can speak good English and also write a book.”

Admitting that the generational change in the party is imminent, party sources also indicated that Advani will continue to guide the party with his experience and moral authority even after he steps down as the leader of Opposition. By Naveen Kapoor(ANI)

Bollywood actor Salman Khan prays for success of upcoming film

Mumbai, Aug 19 (ANI): Bollywood actor Salman Khan is keeping his finger crossed for success of upcoming film ‘Wanted’.

Produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Prabhu Deva, the film features Ayesha Takia Azmi opposite Salman Khan apart from actors like Mahesh Manjrekar, Asseem Merchant.

“I have done lot of love stories, lot of comedies, many of them were not appreciated enough. In this film, I had the zest to work hard. I have done that. So, let’s see if it works and if it doesn’t,” he said.

The film is about Radhe, played by Salman Khan, who is a hardcore gangster, a sharpshooter and works for a dreaded Mafia.

He then finds love when the young and pretty Jhanvi, played by Ayesha Takia Azmi, professes her love for him.

Khan said the film is a combination of all the ingredients in good quantity and they all had to undergo good deal of training for it.

“Our films are usually a combination of all things in small proportions. Little bit dance, little bit romance and little bit comedy. But this film has everything in huge proportions, so had to train hard,” said Khan.

Khan has lent his voice to the title track of the film, composed by composer duo Sajid-Wajid.

He had last sung for the film, Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya in 1998. (ANI)

Hardcore sex simulation scenes in new movie turned off Josh Lucas

London, July 9 (ANI): Actor Josh Lucas admits that the seedy scenes in his new movie left him feeling dirty and ‘strange’.

The Sweet Home Alabama star, who plays a con man who craves crazy sex in the film, says that he has been left scarred after doing nine very hardcore sex simulation scenes with naked women he’d never met.

“One of the weirdest days of my life was the day my character put an ad on (website) CraigsList for 20 women from the ages of 19-65 for the sex montage scene,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

“I filmed nine very hardcore sex simulation scenes with women I never met with all of us completely naked. At the end of the day I felt crazy! It’s something that I think only porn stars actually do in their life when they come in contact with that many people on that level.

“You’re sharing body fluids whether you like it or not, sweat and sensation. I could never be a porn star. I was shook up. I did not walk away from that thinking, ‘Oh, that was fun.’ It was very strange,” he added.

Lucas says that is now keen to do a family-friendly film.

“I was a mess for 30 days. He’s so full of pain and self-hatred. I was living that every day and rage and guilt and traumatic things and my body felt pretty whacked,” he said.

“At the end of the day I’d crawl away and my dreams were pretty weird,” he added. (ANI)

‘Release of Saeed, Sufi casts shadow over Pak’s seriousness to crack down on terror’

Washington, July 8 (ANI): The subsequent release of Lashkar-e-Toiba’s (LeT) chief Hafeez Muhammad Saeed, the hardcore Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdullah Aziz, and now the Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammed (TNSM) chief Sufi Mohammad has cast serious doubts over Pakistan’s claims that it is seriously acting against the Taliban and other home grown terror outfits, a senior US intelligence official said.

The United States is worried and at the same time skeptical over Pakistan’s claims about cracking down on certain banned terror outfits.

Washington is concerned that Pakistan has failed to keep extremist leaders such as Sufi Mohammad and Hafeez Saeed behind bars.

“While Pakistan claims it is cracking down on extremists, note how Sufi Mohammed, Hafiz Saeed and his aide, and Maulana Abdullah Aziz have been cut loose,” The Long War Journal quoted a senior US intelligence official, as saying.

Blaming the TNSM for the failure of the Swat peace accord between the Pakistan government and the banned pro-Taliban TNSM, he said Islamabad must stop relying on these militant leaders to cart a way out of the problem it is facing currently.

“Pakistan can kill all of the foot soldiers it wants to in the northwest, but until the leaders like Sufi and Saeed are taken out of the game, the gains will be temporary,” the official said.

Even as Mohammad’s release from the so called ‘protective custody’ is yet to be confirmed, it is being believed that his release may signal new negotiations being chalked out ahead of the Pakistan’s Army surge in the South Waziristan against the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud .

“The timing of his release is curious, and may signal that a new round of negotiations is in the works,” the journal said.

If the Pakistan government is again trusting Sufi Mohammad for negotiations with Mehsud, it could be once again a blunder in the making for Islamabad, as he had openly supported the Taliban earlier, the report said.

“The Taliban are doing nothing wrong. The government is responsible for violations,” Sufi had said after the Swat peace deal was severed.

Meanwhile, the NWFP Information Minister, Iftikhar Hussain said the government has no information regarding the arrest or release of Sufi Muhammad.

“The provincial government has no information about the whereabouts of Maulana Sufi Muhammad,” Hussain said. (ANI)

Trio breaks Limca book of world record of fastest west-to-east-India drive

Chandigarh, July 5 (ANI): An adventure-loving trio from Chandigarh broke the Limca Book of World Record of fastest driving by covering the distance between Koteshwar in Gujarat and Tezu in Arunanchal Pradesh in 85 hours beating the earlier record of 119 hours.

The three record holders Bhalinder S Sangha, Harinder S Sidhu and Karanbir Bedi covered the distance of 3941 Kilometres across the breadth of the country to establish this new record.

“Recipe of success for us was that all of us …put in lot of hard work. We had trust in each other’s capabilities. It was a team game..it was not like one driver was driving all the time. Three of us were driving and we had to create a momentum and maintain the momentum. All of us are adventurers, hardcore adventurers and challenge excites us,” said Harinder S Sidhu.

They travelled from the western most tip of India to the country’s Eastern most tip and covered the whole journey in exact 84 hours and 52 minutes making a new world record.

They also maintained a route map provided by Limca Book of World records and got themselves logged at junctures recommended under Limca Book parameters.

“The points which were given they were not national highways, we used to go through state highways because Limca Book of Records have given us a log book and they have given us some points and we have to touch those points. We have to get one log book detailed..log book filled from there,” said Bhalinder S Sangha.

They will now try and establish a Limca book of world record by traveling fastest from India’s Northern most tip to its Southern most. (ANI)

Taliban engaging in street fighting after Pak Army storms into Mingora

Islamabad, May 24 (ANI): Intensifying its operation against the Taliban in the Swat Valley, the Pakistan Army has reportedly stormed into Mingora, the main town of the Valley, and is engaged in street battles with the extremists.

According to reports, 17militants have been killed in the last 24 hours as troops entered the city.

Addressing a daily briefing here, the ISPR spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said ‘Operation Rah-e-Rast’ has entered an important phase and the troops were bracing for an intense and bloody fight ahead.

“It’s a very intense battle. Everyone is sniping one another,” The New York Times quoted Major General Abbas, as saying.

The confrontation between the military and the Taliban was confined to the mountainous region and villages of Swat, but now it has shifted to Mingora, situated about 100 miles from away from Islamabad.

The struggle in Mingora is being seen as a test of the ability of the Pakistani military.

With the military operation gaining momentum, fears about large scale civilian casualties is making the task of the security forces more difficult.

The Army is unable to determine exactly how many civilians are still trapped in the region.

“It is difficult to estimate how many civilians or militants are present in the city,” Major General Abbas said.

He added that there were about 1,500 ‘hardcore militants’ still fighting in the Valley, and that the army would try to complete the operation in eight weeks.

Meanwhile, intense clashes were reported from Nishat Chowk in Mingora.

In another incident three caves with large quantities of ammunition and rations were discovered by the troops during a search operation in the Qambar Ridge area near Mingora. (ANI)

Karunanidhi,Jayalalithaa woo Tamil voters with promise of separate Eelam

Chennai, May 8 (ANI): With Tamil Nadu holding elections on May 13, both Chief MInister M.Karunanidhi and his key political rival and AIADMK chief J.Jayalalithaa are seeking to gain the maximum political mileage from the Lanka Tamil sympathy wave among voters in Tamil Nadu.

While Karunannidhi said on Thursday: “As a next step, they (Sri Lankan Tamils) should get Eelam and I assumed responsibilities of making all efforts to ensure that ‘Eelam’ is created,” Jayalalithaa said: “I will work for that if the people of Tamil Nadu give the AIADMK Front all the seats from the state.”

This is the second time that Jayalalithaa has raised the issue of a separate Eelam despite taking a contradictory stance in her party’s election manifesto.

Addressing an election rally in Madurai on THursday, Jayalalithaa condemned the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government for being mute spectators to the plight of Tamil civilians in war ravaged Lanka.

Jayalithaa’s statements came a few hours after Karunanidhi made a similar demand for a separate Tamil nation in Sri Lanka.

The two Tamilian leaders statements came as Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajpaksa said last evening ruled out any possibility of a cease-fire with the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE), adding that such step would be redundant as the latter would use the opportunity to rearm once again.

Addressing the diplomatic community in the Sri Lankan capital, Rajapaksa said that government troops are readying for a final assault on the LTTE, which he said was trapped along with its chief V. Prabhakaran.

According to a statement issued by his office, he said that there is a delay in launching the final assault as the LTTE is using thousands of Tamil civilians as human shields, and the government is determined not to hurt them as far as possible.

Sri Lankan forces are reportedly just 800 meters from the area where an estimated 10,000-15,000 Tamil civilians are trapped along with the top LTTE leadership.

Government troops pushed into the rebel-held village of Karayamulliavaikkal, advancing over areas heavily mined by the rebels and fighting off attacks from their suicide bombers.

A military spokesman said the troops had breached through the last earthen fortification bringing them as close as 800 meters of the area in Mullaitivu, where the LTTE leadership is holed up in the midst of Tamil civilians.

The LTTE rebels are deploying suicide bombers in the large numbers to slow down the Sri Lankan troop advance.

Though, estimates are not available, military sources say that between 500 to 1,000 hardcore black rebels have formed a last wall of defence around Prabhakaran and others.

Troops also found a huge cache of arms including assault rifles and radio communication sets. (ANI)

No cease-fire with LTTE, says Lanka President

Hardcore anti-government protestors surrounded by troops

Bangkok – Anti-government protestors in the Thai capital said Tuesday they were to defy the authorities by remaining dug in outside the seat of government at Bangkok in the face of an army crackdown. The capital was quiet as troops continued to consolidate their positions around the remaining 5,000 protestors loyal to fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was overthrown in a September 2006 military coup.

“Brute military force is clearing the streets but we remain to air our legitimate grievances and to give people the hope of true democracy in the future,” Jatuporn Phrompan, a protest leader, said.

Two people were killed Monday when angry local residents clashed with protestors near the main rally site at Government House, the first confirmed deaths as Bangkok braces for the expected army crackdown.

The city medical services said over 100 people, including soldiers, were injured yesterday as troops swept through barricades firing guns in the air and lobbing tear gas.

Many Thais appear stunned by the breakdown of law and order that threatened when the security forces appeared unable or unwilling to restrain the so-called Red Shirt protestors who at one point last week numbered perhaps 100,000 people.

On Saturday a group of Red Shirts deeply embarrassed Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the military by invading a 16 nation Asia summit being hosted by Thailand at a nearby seaside resort, causing it to be cancelled.

Abhisit told reports Tuesday he would not negotiate with Thaksin, who has incited his supporters to “revolution” and “historical change” in Thai society in almost nightly addresses to the protestors via video link or phone.

The prime minister said he understands the sincere belief of many protestors that there is injustice in society, but said he had no time for bad people with ulterior motives. “We want peace. We want to violence to stop. And then we must work and talk to bring stability and happiness to the country,” he said in brief remarks Tuesday morning.

Many of the protestors come from distant provinces in the north and north-east were Thaksin is particularly admired for his populist economic policies during his time in office from 2001 to 2006. Thaksin is, however, loathed and distrusted by much of the military, the urban elites and middle class.

The protestors want the government to resign to hold fresh elections which Thaksin, with his big rural support, might still win. Abhisit’s Democrat party gained power four months ago after the military and bureaucracy disabled pro-Thaksin governments and a parliamentary faction defected from the Thaksin camp. (dpa)

Soumya case: Cops to question 4 accused

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday allowed Delhi Police to question the four accused in custody in TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan murder case
after it was told that the car in which they had tailed the victim was yet to be recovered.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Kiran Bansal remanded accused Ravi Kapoor, Amit Kumar Shukla and Baljit Malik to five days’ police custody while fourth accused Ajay has been sent to three days’ custody.

“The Wagon-R car used by the accused in chasing down the victim journalist and the weapon of offence are to be recovered and for this purpose, the custodial interrogation of the accused was needed,” Investigation officer (IO) submitted.

They are “hardcore criminals” and have been involved in over 50 cases and their questioning would help in tracking the missing links in the case, the IO seeking their custodial interrogation said. The car in which all the accused chased the slain scribe was being driven by Kapoor, the IO claimed, adding their joint questioning was required to unravel the conspiracy.

Allowing the plea, the court ordered that before taking them in the police custody, the medical tests be done on the accused.

Soumya, an employee of a private news channel, was found shot dead in her car on September 30 last year while returning home from office.

Meanwhile, Tihar Jail superintendent filed his reply denying the allegations of accused Kapoor that he was physically tortured during the judicial custody which resulted in fracture in his leg.

The court had on April 1 asked the jail superintendent to appear in person on April 4 to explain the non-filing of the medical report after Kapoor alleged he was tortured by the police in the prison.

The accused had already refused to undergo the Test Identification Parade (TIP) in connection with the murder case of Soumya and call centre employee Jigisha Ghosh.

Besides Ajay, the three other accused are in judicial custody in connection with the Ghosh murder case. Ghosh (28) was killed in the wee hours of March 18 while returning from a call centre. The recovery of the weapon allegedly used in the murder of Ghosh led to the cracking of the killing of Soumya case also, police say.

Rahul goes east, tears into Advani

CONGRESS YOUTH icon Rahul Gandhi took on the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate, L.K. Advani, head-on on Wednesday. Whizzed through Bihar and Jharkhand in a Pawan Hans helicopter to address four back-to-back rallies, the same number that Advani had addressed on Tuesday, he launched a no-holds barred attack.

“People want to know from him (Mr Advani) whether the then NDA government had capitulated before the terrorists in Kandhar and facilitated the release of some of their hardcore members lodged in Indian jails,” Rahul said in his electoral speeches in Lohardaga and Ramgarh in Jharkhand. “We have an opposition that talks about corruption and terrorism, but it does not see what is happening in Bihar.

The people, during whose regime Parliament was attacked and an Indian Airlines plane was hijacked and taken to Kandahar and #8230; are now saying that we do not fight terrorism. The fact, however, is that Pakistan has been kept under a leash after the Mumbai attack only because of our stern stand,” the Congress general-secretary told the crowds in Bihar’s Buxar and Aurangabad.

In his address, Rahul also focused on his favourite idea: youth. The party has fielded many youth contestants this time in the elections he said.

“Next time it would be more. And this is all the more important when you talk about the country’s changing future.

” In both states, Rahul also focused on local issues – the Kosi floods and corruption in Bihar and the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA) in Jharkhand. The Congress star campaigner said the people of Bihar contribute to the development of several states, but Bihar unfortunately continues to languish.

“In Bihar, no one gets employment. Your people are contributing to the progress of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi while the state government revels in keeping its own people backward.

” “At one point of time, Bihar and UP were the two top states. Today, they are running backwards while the country is moving forward.

” However, at both the Bihar rallies, he took care not to say anything against UPA railway minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Lok Janashakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan.

Net, TV encouraging teens to behave like ‘porn stars’

London, March 30 (ANI): Teens are budding thinking it is okay to ape porn stars after viewing explicit content on the Internet, TV or mobile phones, reveals a new UK study.

According to the shocking figures revealed on Channel 4′s The Sex Education Show Vs Pornography, exposure to pornography was encouraging youngsters to imitate what they see.

The study revealed that the lewd and hardcore imagery also egged them on to have unsafe sex, boob jobs, thin bodies and Hollywood waxes.

Boffins had interviewed 443 teenagers aged 14 to 17 at schools across the country, and found that one third of kids gathered the idea of what was “normal” about sex from porn rather than their parents.

The study also found that almost nine out of ten teens between 14 to 17 years had seen porn and nearly one in five accessed it more than once a week.

It was further revealed that girls as young as 14 and 15 were stripping and performing sex acts on webcams for their boyfriends who think it is okay to do so in front of the lens.

A 15-year-old girl explained the lads were accustomed to viewing similar imagery on the Internet and TV, and girls responded to their request.

“Girls will do things on webcams to entertain boys,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

A 14-year-old added: “Once they send the picture it gets used against them. The boy will say, ‘Do more or I’ll show everybody the pictures’. Everyone always regrets what they do.”

One in five children received porn through email or on their mobile phone without their consent while a quarter faked their age to access the explicit imagery.

While sixty three per cent said they did not talk about sex frankly at home, 77 per cent revealed their parents had no idea they were watching porn. Furthermore, more than one in five girls would give a thought to having a boob job as a third had waxed or shaved their bikini area.

More than a quarter of boys also worried about the size or shape of their genitals, while 44 per cent of girls were concerned about the size or shape of their breasts. (ANI)

Scarlett’s Email claims ‘attempted gang rape before murder’

London, Feb. 9 (ANI): In an Email to her Spanish friend just days before her death on a beach in Goa, British teenager Scarlett Keeling wrote that a group of men had tried to gang rape her in Goa.
Scarlett’s body was found washed-up on North Goa’s Anjuna beach semi-naked almost a year ago. She was drugged, raped and killed while her family left her in Goa with friends, and they holidayed along the Indian coast in February last year.

Scarlett’s mother, Fiona MacKeown, has now revealed that her daughter sent messages painting a chilling picture of the underworld she had become caught in, The Telegraph reports.

MacKeown said, “My daughter’s last messages to a friend she had met in Goa paint a distressing picture of what was happening to her in her last few days and have made me question my decision to leave her behind.”

In her shocking email Scarlett wrote she took a cocktail of drugs at a rave and was later shown hardcore pornography by a group of men who then “all took it in turns tryin 2 rape me”.

MacKeown who has been accused of neglect said, “I already knew Scarlett had been raped before she was murdered. I now have to live with the knowledge that she was also horribly assaulted three days earlier. It’s hard to put into words how shocking it was to read that [email].”

MacKeown said that another of Scarlett’s emails suggests she was being groomed as a drug mule.

“The message to a friend 16 days before her death said that Scarlett planned to travel to Finland and Thailand with her 25-year-old Indian boyfriend, Julio Lobo. She clearly had plans I didn’t know about. She says she’d be making money.”

“I have since learnt there’s quite a strong drug link between the countries she talks about. It makes me wonder whether she was being primed to be a mule,” she wonders.

Indian police believes that the men who committed the attempted gang rape could be her murderers. Officers from India’s Central Bureau of Investigation are planning to interview MacKeown about the emails before arresting the suspects.

Meanwhile, two Indian men are awaiting trial on charges of raping and drugging Scarlett and leaving her to die. (ANI)
