Aussies line up for world’s largest toilet queue

Organisers of a Guinness World Record attempt to form the longest toilet queue say more than 400 people supported their effort in Melbourne.

People lined up in Federation Square to raise awareness about about the lack of clean water and sanitation in developing countries.

About 4,000 children die each day from preventable diseases in some parts of the world.

Melbourne was the first stop in a global attempt, with thousands of people in 70 countries expected to take part.

The chief executive of WaterAid Australia, Adam Laidlaw, says the current toilet queue record stands at about 800.

“And if you like, there’s an A to Z of toilet queues around the world,” he said. “And it started in Australia and may well end in Zambia.

“So we’re really hopeful that we’ll break the record. That would be nice, but it’s really the strong message behind that record.”

New Jersey woman wants to become world”s fattest

Melbourne, March 15 (ANI): Donna Simpson is fat and proud – the 42-year-old already weighs 273kg and has vowed to touch the 450kg mark within two years to clinch the title of the world”s fattest woman.

Simpson says she is healthy, even though she has to use a mobility scooter when she goes shopping.

“My favourite food is sushi, but unlike others I can sit and eat 70 big pieces of sushi in one go,” News.com.au quoted her, as telling the Daily Mail.

She added: “I do love cakes and sweet things – doughnuts are my favourite.”

Simpson loves eating junk food while she makes little effort to move.

She wears XXXXXXXL dresses and has already made it to the Guinness World Record as the world”s fattest mother, when she gave birth in 2007 weighing 240kg.

A team of 30 medics worked on the delivery of her daughter Jacqueline after a high-risk Caesarean.

However, Simpson’s desire to grow fatter remains unchanged.

She said: “I”d love to be 1000lb.

“It might be hard though. Running after my daughter keeps my weight down.”

Even her long-term partner Philippe, 49, encourages her to eat more.

Philippe himself weighs only 68kg.

Simpson said: “I think he”d like it if I was bigger.

“He”s a real belly man, and completely supports me.”

According to Simpson, she will have to eat up to 12,000 calories a day, more than six times the average amount, to achieve her goal.

To fund the 750dollars weekly food shop, she manages a website where men pay to watch her gorge fast food. (ANI)

James, Jamison end Cavs’ skid with win vs. Hornets

CLEVELAND — LeBron James had 20 points and 12 assists, and Antawn Jamison scored 18 points in his first start for Cleveland as the Cavaliers beat the New Orleans Hornets 105-95 on Tuesday night and snapped a three-game losing streak.

New Orleans rookies Marcus Thornton and Darren Collison combined for 59 points, including a franchise-record 23 from Thornton in the second quarter.

James, though, closed out another win for Cleveland in the final two minutes, hitting a 3-pointer and finishing a three-point play to escape a huge night from the Hornets’ rookies.

Thornton scored a career-high 37 off the bench, igniting a 40-point second quarter for the Hornets by making his first five shots and 10 of 13 in the quarter.

Collison, subbing for an injured Chris Paul, scored 22 points and added 10 assists.

Shaquille O’Neal scored 20 points for Cleveland and Mo Williams, struggling with his shooting all night, broke an 89-all tie with a 3-pointer with 4:13 to play. Cleveland’s Delonte West followed with a block of Thornton, then came down to the other end and knocked down another 3 to stretch the Cavaliers’ lead to 95-89. James took over from there.

Jamison started in place of J.J. Hickson, who missed the game with flulike symptoms, but coach Mike Brown was leaning toward starting Jamison anyway.

He made an immediate impression, hitting his first shot of the game and later catching a no-look pass from James and finishing with a one-handed dunk, hanging on the rim long enough for teammate Anderson Varejao to wrap his arms around him and catch him in the third quarter.

NOTES: The Cavaliers are asking fans to arrive early for the March 5 game against Detroit to help set the Guinness World Record for “largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets.” Each fan will receive a Cavaliers Snuggie which they’ll be asked to wear for the first five minutes of the game. A representative of Guiness will be on hand to certify the record. … Mo Williams is 9 of 33 from the floor since returning from an injured left shoulder. … F Leon Powe was active for the first time this season. He has been recovering from offseason knee surgery. … Peja Stojakovic previously held the Hornets record for points in a quarter when he scored 22 in the first against Charlotte on Nov. 14, 2007. … PG Darren Collison entered averaging 24 points over the last six games, ranking seventh in the NBA during that time.

The gala held near Hampton Court Palace raised over 100,000 pounds for various charities.

475 MJ fans attempt world record dancing together to ‘Thriller’ in Leicester

London, August 30 (ANI): A group of Michael Jackson fans in Leicester attempted a world record for the most number of people dancing to the singer’s ‘Thriller’ in one place on his 51st birthday.

Some 475 people dressed as zombies packed into Orton Square participate in the event.

The current record is held by 242 dancers, who performed in Virginia in April this year.

“We wanted to celebrate his life and show people what an inspiration he is,” Sky News quoted Anand Bhatt, 29, the organiser of the attempt, as saying.

The mass dance was planned in April, two months before Michael Jackson died on June 25.

“His death just made us more determined to do this properly. With it being his birthday, it’s a fitting tribute,” said a woman participant.

Her sister added: “The mood has been vibrant throughout. I think it’s nicer today to do something positive, rather that dwelling on the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Adam, 10, said: “Michael Jackson’s my hero. I wish I could dance like him.”

While most dancers learnt the routine during free lessons at dance studios around Leicester, others practised the moves using tutorial videos posted online.

Although the even ran smoothly, its organisers are still waiting an official declaration from a Guinness World Record representative that the new record has been made. (ANI)

London contortionist sets new world record by holding bodyweight with mouth

London, May 30 (ANI): A London-based contortionist has created a new endurance world record by holding her entire bodyweight on her mouth in an arduous backbend.

Twenty-eight-year-old Iona Luvsandorj, a resident of West Hampstead, held a pose called the “Marinelli bend”-in which the whole body is supported by the mouth by gripping onto a short post that is held between the gums-for 33 seconds, beating the existing world record by 11 seconds.

Over 3,000 Brit university pupils to dress as Smurfs for world record attempt

London, May 28 (ANI): More than 3,000 students from Swansea University in Wales, UK, will paint themselves blue, and don white gnome hats in a bid to set a new world record by staging the largest gathering of Smurfs.

And helping them do so is a company called Jokers’ Masquerade, which has supplied the students with over 3000 blue gnome costumes for the gathering, which takes place at the Oceana nightclub at 10pm on June 8.

The Guinness World Record is currently held by the town of Castleblayney in County Monaghan, Northern Ireland which last year recorded 1253 Smurfs gathered in the High Street.

“There have been five attempts in the last 18 months, and the record has risen from 300 to 1253 in that time” says Rebecca Oatley from Jokers’ Masquerade.

“When we were approached by Swansea University to help them break the record, and we agreed that if we are going to do it, we need to really set the standard. That’s why we have given the University 3000 costumes (Smurf and Smurfette) and we’re expecting at least 2,500 students to take part,” Rebecca said.

Hannah Lamden, of Swansea University’s Student Union, added: “It’s a Smurf war. Bath, Southampton, Chester and Portsmouth University have all tried but we’re going to make sure that no student is left un-blue.”

She further said: “We want our record to stay in the Guinness Book for years to come.”

Smurfs were created by Belgium cartoonist Peyo in a series of comic strips for the magazine Le Journal de Spirou.

The tiny creatures were then turned into an animated television series in the 1980s made by Hanna-Barbera. (ANI)

Queensland town goes for record-breaking world’s largest pub-crawl

Sydney, May 2 (ANI): An Aussie town in Queensland is holding its fifth pub-crawl hoping to earn a place in the Guinness world record for being the world’s largest.

Maryborough in Queensland had in 2005 taken the “honour” and then lost it to London in 2006, then reclaimed it again in 2007 and 2008 with a record-breaking 3000 crawlers, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

This year the event is being expanded across the Queen’s birthday weekend, and it is not only about attempting to break the record, as the agenda includes a number of family-friendly activities including a free concert.

There are also beer-and-food matching sessions for those more interested in the taste than the effect.

And for non-drinkers, they can participate in the pub-crawl on June 7, and all they need to do is have one drink either alcoholic or non-alcoholic in at least 10 of the participating pubs and get the official pub-crawl card stamped at each watering hole.

Participants must be 18 years or older. (ANI)

Taiwan treats 350 foreign tourists to free massage

Taipei – Taiwan treated 350 foreign tourists to free massage Sunday as part of its campaign to promote “health tourism.”

The tourists, seated in chairs at the National Taiwan University gymnasium, received 40-minute massages on their hands, shoulders and backs by 350 blind masseurs.

Some tourists screamed in pain while other giggled and laughed as the masseurs squeezed their muscles and exerted pressure on nerve points.

It was the second time the Taiwan Tourism Bureau has arranged a free massage event for foreign tourists.

On July 1, 2008, Taiwan set a Guinness World Record by arranging for 1,008 people, including hundreds of foreign tourists, to have free foot massages simultaneously.

We want to promote health tourism so that foreigners can come to Taiwan to have massage, enjoy hot springs, get medical checkups and attend other health-related events,” tourism bureau spokesman Chen Chiung-hua said.

Massage, especially foot massage, is popular in Taiwan. In large cities, there are many massage parlours which charge 500 Taiwan dollars (15 US dollars) for 30 minutes of foot massage, which can relieve fatigue and has therapeutic effects for certain illnesses. (dpa)

Another Chinese contender for world’s tallest man title

Beijing, April 17 (Xinhua) A new contender for world’s tallest man title has been found in China after he attended a hospital for a foot surgery in northeast China.

The 27-year-old Zhao Liang was measured 2.46 metres (over eight feet) tall by the doctors at Tianjin Anjie Hospital.

His mother said Zhao has a big appetite and can eat eight hamburger-sized steamed buns and three dishes at dinner.

Zhao’s parents are of normal height. His father is 1.8 metres tall and his mother 1.68 metres. They don’t know why their son has grown to such an abnormal height.

‘I am so worried about his marriage, job and health,’ said his mother Wang Keyun.

8ft tall Chinese circus performer may be world’s tallest man

London, April 17 (ANI): An 8ft 1in tall man in China, who staggered staff at a hospital when he went there for a foot operation, may be the world’s tallest man.

If Liang’s stature is confirmed, it would mean that he is nearly 4in taller than fellow 7ft 9in countryman Bao Xishun, 58, who holds the current Guinness world record.

Liang mother revealed how her son consumes three meals, and eight giant buns every day for lunch.

“I am so worried about his marriage, his job and his health that my hair has turned white,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

However, doctors who examined him in Tianjin, northern China, say that he is perfectly healthy and his foot surgery was a success.

Liang, who lives in central China’s Henan province, was a promising basketball player until the foot injury a decade ago.

He was unemployed until he joined the circus troupe in 2006.
