475 MJ fans attempt world record dancing together to ‘Thriller’ in Leicester

London, August 30 (ANI): A group of Michael Jackson fans in Leicester attempted a world record for the most number of people dancing to the singer’s ‘Thriller’ in one place on his 51st birthday.

Some 475 people dressed as zombies packed into Orton Square participate in the event.

The current record is held by 242 dancers, who performed in Virginia in April this year.

“We wanted to celebrate his life and show people what an inspiration he is,” Sky News quoted Anand Bhatt, 29, the organiser of the attempt, as saying.

The mass dance was planned in April, two months before Michael Jackson died on June 25.

“His death just made us more determined to do this properly. With it being his birthday, it’s a fitting tribute,” said a woman participant.

Her sister added: “The mood has been vibrant throughout. I think it’s nicer today to do something positive, rather that dwelling on the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Adam, 10, said: “Michael Jackson’s my hero. I wish I could dance like him.”

While most dancers learnt the routine during free lessons at dance studios around Leicester, others practised the moves using tutorial videos posted online.

Although the even ran smoothly, its organisers are still waiting an official declaration from a Guinness World Record representative that the new record has been made. (ANI)

Queensland town goes for record-breaking world’s largest pub-crawl

Sydney, May 2 (ANI): An Aussie town in Queensland is holding its fifth pub-crawl hoping to earn a place in the Guinness world record for being the world’s largest.

Maryborough in Queensland had in 2005 taken the “honour” and then lost it to London in 2006, then reclaimed it again in 2007 and 2008 with a record-breaking 3000 crawlers, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

There are also beer-and-food matching sessions for those more interested in the taste than the effect.

And for non-drinkers, they can participate in the pub-crawl on June 7, and all they need to do is have one drink either alcoholic or non-alcoholic in at least 10 of the participating pubs and get the official pub-crawl card stamped at each watering hole.

Ludhiana’s Paramjot creates Table playing record

Ludhiana, April 30 (ANI): Ludhiana’s Paramjot Singh, a teacher by profession, recently earned wide public admiration when he broke a record held by Kerala’s G. Ramakrishnana for playing Mridang, a long traditional Indian musical instrument, for 301 hours.

Paramjot played non-stop on the Tabla for 310 hours to set the new record.

Paramjot says that in childhood he used to watch the Guinness Book of World Records serial on television.

“I must have been in standard 3rd then. And I used to think that when other people could break the Guinness record why couldn’t I. It was then that I made up my mind that I would break the Guinness record one day. When I reached standard 5, I started learning Tabla after I learnt that someone was holding the world record of playing non-stop Tabla. I was so passionate that I would continue to play the instrument till someone stopped me,” said Paramjot Singh, the Tabla player. ince beginning, Paramjot always visualized himself as a record holder and carried on that personal image in mind. It was only later that he displayed his talent to the world around him that he is a person to look at.

“After this attempt, people are considering me the record holder, but I have considered myself the record holder since my childhood. This is just a culmination of what I thought about many years ago. Whatever task I undertake, I consider it as being accomplished, and then make an attempt to carry out it,” Paramjot says.

“To break this record, I first made an attempt at home for 12 non-stop days so as to take the family members and friends in confidence. It was performed as per the rules and regulations of Guinness Book of Records,” said Paramjot.

“My family allowed me to go ahead after they were confident that I would be in good health while performing non-stop for so many days. I even took the permission of the management of Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib. I have achieved this after 6 months of hard work,” Paramjot told. You can take a five-minute break after each hour. You can even make it a 10 minutes break after every 2 hours of performance. After performing non-stop throughout the day, you can rest for 2 hours. It all depends on you as if you want to take a rest after hours or the day,” Paramjot explained.

“I continuously performed for 68 hours, and took rest for long hours. I got the benefit of that throughout my performance. I used to eat food either with the help of family members or I ate it with one hand and continued playing tabla with the other hand. The only important thing is that your performance should not be disturbed and tabla rhythm should not go wrong,” said Paramjot Singh, the Tabla player. By Karan Kapoor (ANI)

Another Chinese contender for world’s tallest man title

Beijing, April 17 (Xinhua) A new contender for world’s tallest man title has been found in China after he attended a hospital for a foot surgery in northeast China.

Zhao’s parents are of normal height. His father is 1.8 metres tall and his mother 1.68 metres. They don’t know why their son has grown to such an abnormal height.

8ft tall Chinese circus performer may be world’s tallest man

London, April 17 (ANI): An 8ft 1in tall man in China, who staggered staff at a hospital when he went there for a foot operation, may be the world’s tallest man.

Zhao Liang, 27, is a circus performer. His father is 5ft 11in and mum Wang Keyun 5ft 6in tall.

If Liang’s stature is confirmed, it would mean that he is nearly 4in taller than fellow 7ft 9in countryman Bao Xishun, 58, who holds the current Guinness world record.

Liang mother revealed how her son consumes three meals, and eight giant buns every day for lunch.

“I am so worried about his marriage, his job and his health that my hair has turned white,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

However, doctors who examined him in Tianjin, northern China, say that he is perfectly healthy and his foot surgery was a success.

Liang, who lives in central China’s Henan province, was a promising basketball player until the foot injury a decade ago.

He was unemployed until he joined the circus troupe in 2006.

He performs magic tricks and plays the flute and sax. (ANI)
