Song in supermarket Sainsbury”s TV campaign tops adverts playlist

London, Apr 19 (ANI): The song for supermarket Sainsbury”s TV campaign has topped a poll of the most performed songs in advertising.

‘Light And Day’ by The Polyphonic Spree, the soundtrack to the store”s Try Something New Today adverts with chef Jamie Oliver has left behind Nina Simone”s ‘Ain”t Got No/I Got Life’ from the Muller yogurt commercials to grab the top spot.

The survey, carried out by PRS for Music— an organisation that collects royalties on behalf of songwriters— has revealed the most frequently used songs in adverts over the last five years.

At the third place was the classical piece ‘Eliza”s Aria’ by Elena Kats-Chernin, made popular by Lloyds TSB”s For The Journey campaign.

Rounding up at the fourth and fifth spot were ‘Take That hit Shine’— this time used by Morrisons supermarket and ‘Left Bank Two’ performed by The Noveltones, used by Waitrose to promote its Essentials range.

The survey also revealed the most performed jingles – tunes created specifically for an advertising campaign – since 2005.

””Music makes an emotional impact upon people and a well-crafted song can lock in the listeners” mind for life, making it a powerful marketing tool,” the Telegraph quoted Roger Greenaway, who co-wrote ‘I”d Like To Teach The World To Sing’, the tune used in a memorable campaign by Coca-Cola, as saying.

””There”s a split between brands that use specific jingles and those that prefer to sample well-known music by popular bands but one thing is clear – the right song boosts an ad and can create a positive association to a brand – gold dust for marketers,” he added.

And the top 10 most performed songs in advertising are:

1 Light And Day by The Polyphonic Spree – Sainsbury”s Try Something New Today
2 Ain”t Go No/I Got Life by Nina Simone – Muller
3 Eliza”s Aria by Elena Kats-Chernin – Lloyds TSB”s For The Journey
4 Shine by Take That – Morrisons
5 Left Bank Two by The Noveltones – Waitrose Essentials
6 All Possibilities by Badly Drawn Boy – Comet
7 Knickknack by Bobby McFerrin – Bupa
8 Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield – Pantene Pro-V
9 Send It On by Sean Paul – Vauxhall Corsa
10 Epoca by Gotan Project – Finish Dishwasher Tablets (ANI)

‘Insolent’ Meghan McCain ‘plays party pooper’ at Correspondents Dinner

New York, May 11 (ANI): Senator John McCain’s daughter Meghan reportedly played party pooper at the recent Correspondents Dinner in Washington D.C. when she was stopped by security for lacking a ticket for one friend.

The political blogger was said to have had only two tickets but got two friends at the prestigious annual event and later allegedly bragged about her background.

“The security guard sent her to talk to someone to sort out the situation, but Meghan got bratty and nastily told him, ‘We’ll just stand here then,’ like an insolent child,” the New York Daily News quoted a source as saying.

And after dealing with the guard, “She muttered to her friends, ‘Does he even know who the f— I am?’” the source added.

An insider further said: “Those tickets were harder to get than gold dust and Meghan blatantly only had two and thought she didn’t have to follow the same rules as everyone else.”

And once inside, the blonde was later heard “complaining about everything from the air-conditioning to the wait,” added the source. (ANI)

Treasure trove of artifacts recovered from Blackbeard’s 18th-century ship

Washington, April 1 (ANI): Archaeologists have recovered a treasure trove of artifacts from a recently recovered ship of the infamous 18th-century pirate Blackbeard.

According to a report in the National Geographic News, some of the newfound relics add to evidence that the ship belonged to the pirate.

“We feel pretty comfortable that that’s what this is,” said Marke Wilde-Ramsing, director of the Queen Anne’s Revenge project for the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology.

Underwater archaeologists from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources have been excavating the wreck, which lies 22 feet (7 meters) underwater a few miles off Beaufort, North Carolina, since 1997.

Among the discovered artifacts is a brass navigational instrument known as a chart divider.

Navigational instruments were favorite targets of looting pirates, because the tools could easily be sold or traded, according to archaeologist David Moore of the North Carolina Maritime Museum, who is working on the wreck site.

On March 26, 2009, two fleurs-de-lis (iris flowers)-the royal symbol of France-were revealed on an apothecary weight from a shipwreck off the coast of North Carolina, archaeologists said in March 2009.

Originally stuck to other nested weights, but separated via an electrolysis process, the weight and a fleur-de-lis-shaped keg spigot found in the shipwreck are among the strongest evidence that the ship was originally French-a key to tying the ship to Blackbeard.

The pirate captured the French ship Le Concorde and renamed it Queen Anne’s Revenge in 1717.

Le Concorde’s surgeon, who was forced to serve briefly in Blackbeard’s crew, may have owned the weights, designed for pharmaceuticals.

According to experts, pirates could have also used the weights to measure gold dust. (ANI)

Rowling ‘lands gold-dust invitation for Obama’s inaugural gala’

London, Jan 14 (ANI): Acclaimed author J.K. Rowling has received a special gold-dust invitation for US President-elect Barack Obama’s inaugural ceremony, according to reports.

The author received the special early invitation because Obama is a huge fan of Harry Potter books.

The invitation may see Rowling rubbing shoulders with celebrities like George Clooney and Will Smith at the star-studded inauguration ceremony and White House dinner on Tuesday.

However J.K. Rowling’s spokeswoman said she was unaware of any decision on the invite.

The organisers of the bash in Washington are much aware of Obama’s “cool” status, as rapper Jay-Z, his superstar wife Beyonce Knowles and rock legend Bruce Springsteen are also on the guest list for the glitzy reception.

“Obama is cool. He’s the first pop culture president,” The Sun quoted Morris Reid of the Creative Coalition, as saying.

In 2007, Obama’s wife Michelle outed him as the original “Harry Potter parent”.(ANI)
