German HIV-positive pop star arrested over unprotected-sex charges

Darmstadt, Germany – A member of Germany’s leading female pop band has been arrested for allegedly having unprotected sex despite being HIV positive, lawyers said Tuesday. Nadja Benaissa, a 26-year-old singer with the group No Angels, is to have had unprotected sex with three men in 2004 and 2006, the state prosecution in the town of Darmstadt said.

One of the three men is now HIV positive, possibly as a consequence of his sexual relations with Benaissa.

No Angels are Germany’s most successful girl band, with 5 million album sales in their first three years. The group was formed in 2000, when they won in the Popstars talent competition on German RTL television.

Benaissa was arrested Saturday night in a Frankfurt Disco, German daily Bild reported. The newspaper said the singer was about to give a solo appearance.

Benaissa was charged with dangerous bodily harm, and kept in custody as the investigating judge decided there was a risk she would repeat the alleged deed.

If found guilty, Benaissa could face six months to ten years in prison.

The singer has one daughter, born in 1999.

The girl band is the support act on the ‘Toxic’ hitmaker’s 42-date Circus trek, which features a massive circular platform in the centre of the venue.

And the Pussycat Dolls have realized the curved stage means they must dance throughout the entire show – so audiences can focus on something other than their bottoms.

“It’s hard because your butt cheeks are always facing part of the crowd,” Contactmusic frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger, as saying.

“So you constantly wanna keep it moving and be able to spread the love everywhere – even though your backside is to some of the people,” she added. (ANI)
