Emma Watson used gap year to design teen summer wear for People Tree

London, Sep 18 (ANI): Harry Potter star Emma Watson has revealed that she spent her gap year designing a ‘complete teenage summer wardrobe’ for the fair trade fashion brand People Tree.

Watson, 19, who has just enrolled at Brown University in the US, acted as a creative advisor for the ethical fashion collection, which will reach shops in February.

“I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to help alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with,” Sky News quoted her as saying.

“I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there.

“It has been the most incredible gap year project,” she added.

Among items that the teen actress has had a hand in designing were knitwear, cotton t-shirts, jersey dresses, and poplin shorts.

Her range also includes some more bizarre items, including “bohemian hand embroidered bed throws, recycled sweetie wrapper jewellery, banana fibre slouchy beanies and head scarves.”

They will be sold by People Tree, a company which aims at supporting developing countries and promoting environmental projects. (ANI)

‘Princess Eugenie rescued from rock pelting bandits by bodyguards’

London, May 4 (ANI): British Princess Eugenie was rescued by her two bodyguards who fought against a group of bandits trying to thug her pal’s purse in Cambodia, according to reports.

Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter, who has been spending her gap year travelling the world with friends, had allegedly been walking at night in Phnom Penh when one thief tried to snatch away her friend’s purse.

The royal protection officers were said to have rugby-tackled a bandit as he tried to escape with the purse and while doing so were reportedly being hit with rocks by another robber.

The brave guards were then claimed to have whisked the 19-year-old to safety, according to a Buckingham Palace source, who showered praises on the SO14 Special Branch officers.

“They feared the incident was escalating out of control and took the decision to focus on the safety of their principal,” the Sun quoted the source as saying.

Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew and Fergie and sixth in line to the throne, has been to India, South America, Australia, South Africa and Thailand during her ongoing gap year. (ANI)

G20 summit poll boost for Labour 11 hours 36 mins ago

The governing party gained three points in the latest YouGov for the Sunday Times poll to stand at 34%, seven behind the Conservatives who were unchanged on last month.

It is the narrowest gap in the poll this year and was accompanied by an improvement in the personal popularity of Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The online survey, conducted in the days since Mr Brown won high praise from world leaders including US President Barack Obama for securing agreement on a 1.1 trillion dollar boost to the world economy and firmer financial regulation, found more people now thought he was doing a good job.

That number now stands at 41% – up from 36% in November – with those still disapproving of his efforts numbering 53%. The 12-point gap between the two – the approval rating – has halved.

Most (52%) said the summit had been a success although fewer (44%) believed it would help end the recession sooner.

The Liberal Democrats were down one point at 16%.

YouGov interviewed a representative sample of 2,125 voters, across Britain, online, on April 3-4.
