But, today, she will start her birthday celebrations at the Marriot Hotel, and roam across town with her gang in a giant luxury Hummer.

The party will swing over to Portside at Hamilton, where she will be cutting her birthday cake, reports the Courier Mail.

According to reports, Rice has sold the rights to cover the bash to New Idea magazine. (ANI)

Pak Qaeda hand in 2006 trans-Atlantic bomb plot revealed

London, Sep.8 (ANI): New evidence put before a British jury during a retrial of three Brit Muslim convicts suggests that the men used code words to discuss their plans with an al-Qaeda fixer based in Pakistan.

The e-mails and conversations suggest that the plot was in its final stages, possibly days away from execution in 2006.

The seven daily flights highlighted by the three plotters were: 14.15 United Airlines Flight 931 to San Francisco; 15.00 Air Canada Flight 849 to Toronto; 15.15 Air Canada Flight 865 to Montreal; 15.40 United Airlines Flight 959 to Chicago; 16.20 United Airlines Flight 925 to Washington; 16.35 American Airlines Flight 131 to New York; 16.50 American Airlines Flight 91 to Chicago.

According to The Telegraph and the Daily Express, the batteries the gang planned to use as part of their detonators were bought in Pakistan.

An ingredient in the bomb mix was the orange soft drink Tang – sold in Pakistan – which had a high sugar content to aid the explosion.

A British intelligence source said: “The use of drink bottles sold in Pakistan and batteries sold in Pakistan underline the plot’s ties to that country. The foot soldiers were from Britain – but the organisers were in Pakistan.”

A security source said of the conspiracy: “It was very clever and the airport scanners would not have picked up the devices at all.”

Prosecutor Peter Wright told the Woolwich Crown Court in South East London how the would-be bombers were “a cell of home-grown terrorists activated and directed by a designated leader in Pakistan.”

That was confirmed by a government source in Pakistan, who said the plot was believed to have originated “with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.”

Seized e-mails showed the chain of terror stretched from there, across the lawless border to Pakistan, to London and to the woods of High Wycombe where explosives were buried.

The aim was to mirror the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, which killed 259 passengers and 11 in the Scottish town.

Aliases exposed during the trial revealed the terror kingpin in Pakistan was dubbed “Paps” or “Papa”.

Ali called himself Imran and Chacha and also set up email accounts in the bogus names Tippu Khan and Jameel Masood.

His co-conspirators used aliases such as Fatty, Arro and Nigga.

Hydrogen peroxide was known as “aftershave”, police surveillance as “skin problems” and martyrdom videos were referred to as “wedding tapes”.

It is also thought that the bomb makers received training at an al-Qaeda camp in Pakistan.

A mystery Pakistani, thought to be a top al-Qaeda envoy, made contact with the three would-be suicide bombers during a flying visit to Britain in June 2006.

Experts who tested the explosive mix on the aircraft were horrified.

A witness said: “It was absolutely devastating.” (ANI)

Muthoot’s family alleges conspiracy behind murder

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 29 (ANI): A week after Kerala business tycoon Paul Muthoot was found murdered, his family has refuted Kerala Police’s road rage claim saying that there’s something more creepy behind his death.

Jnanamma Thomas, Muthoot’s grandmother refuted Kerala police’s road rage angle, alleging a cover-up of a brutal murder of her grandson .

“They did not tell us there was an accident angle to it in the beginning. But only they told there was an accident,” she said.

George P Easo, a family member said, “Politicians are changing their statements every other day. We don’t know whom to believe.”

Earlier, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has dismissed opposition Congress charge that his son had links in connection with the recent murder of Muthoot group scion Paul M George.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Balakrishnan said, “My son (Beenish Kodiyeri) has no relation with the case whatsoever. The allegation that Beenish had connections with wanted gangsters was to create a ‘mystery’ over the case.”

Rejecting the charge that the Home Department was trying to interfere in the investigation process, he said a deliberate attempt was being made by vested interests to hamper the probe.

The government had nothing to hide in the case and was open to “any sort of investigation”, he added.

Balakrishnan also announced that a special investigation team had been constituted under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Vinson M. Paul to probe the murder of the Paul Muthoot George.

He said that the team was constituted as the inter-district ramifications of the case and deeper links would have to be probed in detail. The investigation would cover links of Muthoot George with goonda elements.

According to the police theory, a gang of nearly 22 men was behind the murder of Paul.

Paul was killed last Friday night on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road. A friend who was with him was injured and is in hospital; both were stabbed.

Paul, who was based in Delhi, had recently returned to Kerala to take charge of the leisure and hospitality arm. He was returning from an under-construction resort at Mararikulam when he was stabbed to death.

On Sunday, police arrested 12 persons, including notorious criminals, identified as Om Prakash and Rajesh. (ANI)

Mirren to star in big-screen remake of Graham Greene’s novel Brighton Rock

London, Aug 28 (ANI): Actress Dame Helen Mirren is set to star in new film Brighton Rock, adapted from Graham Greene’s classic 1939 novel of the same title.

The Oscar winner will play amateur detective Ida Arnold in the movie.

The plot revolves around teenager Pinkie, who seduces a young waitress after she stumbles on evidence linking him and his gang to a revenge killing committed by Pinkie.

Mirren will have the task cut out to find the truth behind the killing.

Rowan Joffe has written the script and will direct the film too.

And he intends to make it look as contemporary as possible.

“We’re making Brighton Rock as contemporary as we possibly can because the story feels ‘modern’. It’s too alive, too vibrant and too relevant to be contained in the late 1930s,” the BBC News quoted him as saying.

Also starring in the film, set in 1964, is Sam Riley, who will play the lead character Pinkie Brown apart from Pete Postlethwaite and Happy Go Lucky’s Andrea Riseborough.

Shooting is scheduled to start in October this year. (ANI)

London council in dock for terming Pakistan origin pupil ‘Pakis’

London, Aug. 26 (ANI): A London council has come under fire for describing Pakistani origin pupils who attend the borough’s school as ‘Pakis’.

Conservative-controlled Redbridge Council in east London, however, has defended the usage of term in an official document that provides a breakdown of the ethnic background of pupils as a “computer error”.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission said that the document had been passed to its legal enforcement team, The Guardian reports.
“The council must know that a generation of Asians in east London grew up in the 1970s with the threat of violence from ‘Paki-bashing’ and with its association with skinhead gang culture. It is almost impossible to believe that anyone would fail to understand how racially charged the word Paki is,” said Kevin Blowe, of anti-racist organisation Newham Monitoring Project.

Following the criticism, the council officials had to issue a revised statement condemning the use of the word.
“Redbridge council fully accepts the use of this abbreviated term is wholly unacceptable and inappropriate and would never condone the use of such language.

“Having looked at the spreadsheet, in addition to the unacceptable term ‘Paki’ the document also contains a variety of abbreviations and spelling mistakes and was circulated in error.

“When this was realised at an away day, those present were asked to hand in the document so they could be destroyed. The author of the spreadsheet apologised,” a council statement said.
Keith Vaz, who chairs the Commons home affairs select committee, said: “It is important that councils are careful to avoid the use of offensive terms in both internal and external communications. I welcome the action the council has taken.” (ANI)

Kerala businessman’s murder mystery solved, claims police

New Delhi, Aug. 24 (ANI): The murder case of Kerala businessman Paul Muthoot George has been solved, Kerala Police claimed on Monday.

According to the police theory, a gang of nearly 22 men was behind the murder of Paul, 30, who was heading the Muthoot M George Group’s hospitality business.

The hired man who stabbed Paul has not been arrested so far, police said

Paul was killed last Friday night on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road. A friend who was with him was injured and is in hospital; both were stabbed.

On Sunday, police arrested 12 persons, including notorious criminals, identified as Om Prakash and Rajesh.

A team led by the IGP, Ernakulam Range, Vinson Paul, is interrogating the suspects.

The Muthoot Group is a major player in the financial services business in Kerala and has been slowly expanding its reach to other parts of the country. Paul is the chairman’s second son.

Earlier, media reports had suggested business rivalry could be a reason. Involvement of persons related to the narcotics trade was also not being ruled out.

The dead man and his friend were found by the roadside on Friday night. The vehicle they were travelling in was missing. The vehicle, a Ford Endeavour, was found abandoned this morning at Kollam, 40 km away.

Paul, who was based in Delhi, had recently returned to Kerala to take charge of the leisure and hospitality arm.

He was returning from an under-construction resort at Mararikulam when he was stabbed to death.

Paul was Chairman M G George Muthoot’s second son, while his two brothers, George Muthoot George and Alexander George Muthoot, are also associated with the group as executive director and as a director, respectively.

In addition, four of Paul’s cousins are part of the fourth generation of Muthoot directors, who had been inducted into the group. (ANI)

Presence of neo-Nazis once again haunts US military

Atlanta, July 13 (ANI): The latest revelation on the appearance of at least 40 active-duty US soldiers on a neo-Nazi social networking website has confirmed the controversial government report released in April about the growing presence of white supremacy in the military.

According to the disclosure by the Southern Poverty Law Center, there were at least 40 profiles related to active-duty military members on NewSaxon.org, known as the “fascist Facebook,” csmonitor.com reports.

“I love and will do anything to keep our master race marching,” writes “WhitePride85,” who claims on the site to be a 24-year-old staff sergeant from Madison, Wis.

The civil rights organization, which delivered its report to the House and Senate Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees on Monday, raised new questions about how serious the Army is about rooting out rank-and-file neo-Nazis.

“There are many people in the military using new technology to put up racist profiles, racist music and books that they love that are racist, and as the regulations stand today that’s not grounds for being tossed out of the military,” SPLC spokeswoman Heidi Beirich said.

Undersecretary of Defense David Chu, however, told the SPLC that the Army has zero tolerance for racists in the ranks.

Jeffrey Castro, a spokesman for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command at Fort Belvoir, Va., said his command investigates supremacist leanings only in relation to felony accusations. “Being a gang member, for instance is not a felony-level crime.”

It’s the unit commander who determines whether a soldier a neo-Nazi, and the Army policy states that commanders cannot, however, dismiss them.

In 2007, the FBI reported on concern about white supremacists recruiting soldiers, saying “hundreds” of neo-Nazis were in the active military.

Such groups hope to utilize their combat skills in “a coming race war,” says former marine TJ Leyden, an ex-white supremacist and author of “Skinhead Confessions.” (ANI)

Carmen Electra goes topless for burlesque show in LA

London, July 10 (ANI): Carmen Electra wowed the crowd at The Crazy Horse Paris Show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas by baring her boobs.

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese has also performed at the Paris club. (ANI)

‘Hippy’ monkeys turn killers when starved of sex

London, July 5 (ANI): Even the world’s most peaceful and egalitarian monkeys can turn aggressive when starved of sex, say researchers.

Northern Muriquis in Brazil have a reputation of the “hippy monkey”, however, the quiet image of the primates suffered a blow after scientists spotted a gang of six attacking and killing an adult male.
he victim, an old male, died an hour after receiving savage bites to his face, body and genitals.

The muriquis peaceful reputation stems mainly from northern populations that feed on abundant leaves, and where males patiently queue to mate with females, reports New Scientist.

However, in the southern part, where the attack took place, fruit is more abundant, which the scientists believe may provide a vital clue to the assault.

According to the lead researcher Mauricio Talebi of the Federal University of Sao Paulo-Diadema, Brazil, since fruits are widely available female primates separate from the main group making them less available for sex with the males than in the north where everyone stays together to eat leaves.

Thus, lack of mates can make monkeys frustrated and aggressive.

The findings appear in American Journal of Primatology. (ANI)

It was raining gifts for Bush and his gang during foreign visits!

Washington, Jun 25 (ANI): A report submitted by the US State Department has revealed that the Bush administration received very generous gifts during their foreign visits.

When the administration decided to restore diplomatic relations with Libya, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made a visit to Tripoli last year, the first time in more than 50 years, and Libyan strongman Muammar Qadhafi showered her with costly gifts, reports Politico.com.

According to the report submitted on June 24, Rice received a diamond ring, a locket with the Libyan leader’s photo in it, and other items amounting to 212,225 dollars.

Rice’s spokesman, Sean McCormack, got an 800-dollar Men’s RADO watch “with small likeness of Qadhafi’s face on watch face”.

But Qadhafi’s generosity was outdone by the Saudis, who lavished more than 750,000 dollars in gifts on Rice, President George W. Bush and other officials during their trips last year.

In January 2008, Saudi King Abdullah gave Rice a “gold, diamond and sapphire set with necklace, ring, bracelet and earrings”, along with a robe and scarf. The whole gift pack was worth 230,145 dollars said the State Department.

During the same January visit, the Saudis gave State Department Chief of Protocol Nancy Brinker 65,000 dollars in gifts, including an emerald and diamond bracelet.

Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East, David Welch, and the U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ford Fraker, each got 45,000 dollars worth of watches and other items.

Top White House staffers, including Stephen Hadley, Josh Bolten, Ed Gillespie, Dana Perino, William McGurn and Elliott Abrams each got jewellery and robes pegged at about 15,000 dollars a set.

During a March visit to Saudi Arabia, Vice President Cheney’s daughter, Elizabeth, got diamond and ruby jewellery with an estimated value of 85,000 dollars, while her mom, Lynne Cheney, got a 65,000-dollar set.

In 2007, Rice received two gifts of jewellery from the Saudis, with a total value of more than 310,000 dollars.

In February 2008 King Abdullah of Jordan gave the U.S. Ambassador to Jordan, David Hale, “one Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo watch” valued by the State Department at 12,500 dollars.

Bush, who is an avid biker, received a black Mercedes mountain bike in 2008 from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa presented him with a “full carbon Black Gold XTR mountain bike”.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert gave the U.S. leader “a hydration system cycling backpack” and bib shorts marked with Bush’s name and Israeli flags.

By law, federal officials are required to turn such gifts over to the government, which either sells them or stores them at the National Archives.

A few items are retained for display at government offices or purchased by the recipient, but items such as food, liquor, cigars, were “handled pursuant to U.S. Secret Service policy”, which may be a diplomatic way of saying they were disposed of for security reasons.

The State Department revealed in the report to be published on June 25 in the Federal Register. (ANI)

How Prince William gained insight into violent street culture

London, June 21 (ANI): Prince William has made it known for the first time how his private meetings with former street gang members helped him pick valuable pointers from them.

The royal revealed he had met former gang members through his links to charities and understands their struggle to earn “respect”.

“Former gang members have told me that it is precisely to find status, respect from others and the role in a community that we all crave that led them to fall in with gangs in the first place,” The Telegraph quoted him as saying in his article for the newspaper.

“One enduring feature of all gangs – and teams – is that they survive on mutual support. They allow their members to earn respect by obeying the rules, and they share clear objectives.

“Essentially, they allow the individual to belong. As such, the fundamental difference – so far as I can see – between violent street gangs and cohesive teams of contented young people is the destructive violence of the former set against the constructive comradeship of the latter.

“The challenge, therefore, seems to me to be to how turn gang members into team members,” he added.

William, who turns 27 today, is presently training to be a search and rescue pilot. (ANI)

Antique idols seized, three nabbed in Uttar Pradesh

Chandauli (UP), May 20 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh police had recovered at least 19 antique idols of Hindu gods, allegedly being smuggled out of the country and arrest three people.

Acting on a tip off, police laid a trap in Chandauli district and trapped the antique smugglers who tried to evade the police at a checkpoint.

“Three persons have been arrested. One person is from Bihar and two from Benaras. We recovered 19 antique idols. While investigating we found that they were taking the idols from Bodh Gaya to Benaras to sell. We found out that they are part of a big gang engaged in antique smuggling,” said Anand Kumar, a police official.

One of the three arrested persons revealed their modus operandi, but claimed ignorance about the actual worth of the idols.

“A person in Benaras wanted to buy the idols so we were going to sell them,” said Ramvilas.

Experts have been called to find out the exact period to which the idols belong.

Dealing in antiques is banned under the Antiquity and Art Treasure Act (AATA).

Under the Act, no object more than 100 years old can be taken out of the country without permission. (ANI)

Edinburgh (Scotland), May 15 (ANI): Campaigners chained themselves together on Thursday as part of a worldwide call for the release of a doctor jailed for speaking out about poverty.

Dr Binayak Sen worked with the poorest people in central India for decades, but was jailed two years ago for speaking up for his patients.

The campaigners – who included MSP and GP Richard Simpson – dressed in white coats and masks to protest outside the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

Amnesty International’s Scottish programme director John Watson said: “Dr Sen has worked with the poor people in central India for decades. He has won international acclaim and awards.”
