Gandhians in Ahmedabad laud government’s austerity drive

Ahmedabad, Sep 18(ANI): In contrast to leaders of some political parties, who are criticising the austerity measures mooted by the government as mere ‘tokenism’, Gandhians associated with the Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad have lauded the initiative.

The Gandhains, who themselves live a life of extreme simplicity, following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, said that if politicians lead a simple life, people would certainly follow in tune with the adage: Follow the leader.

Amrut Modi, the managing trustee Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram, a staunch Gandhian himself, is a firm believer in Gandhi’s teaching of ‘doing one’s work by oneself’, and professes it religiously.

Appreciating the austerity drive of the government, he said that politicians through such measures inspire people towards leading a simple life, as the Mahatma did.

“If simplicity is acquired, it can lead to change. Gandhiji himself had brought about change in the country. He prepared the people for independence and self-rule. The principle of simplicity is included in his teachings. He inspired the common man, through his simple life. Even today if our politicians adopt simplicity, then people will take inspiration from them,” Modi said.

Several other believers of Gandhi’s teaching also said that simplicity could help the nation develop, and also set an example in front of the whole world.

“The ministers should adopt Gandhiji’s principles and teachings pertaining to simplicity. This will help in the development of the country financially and otherwise and they can also send the message to the world, that how beneficial it can be to walk on Gandhiji’s principles,” said Dhimant Badiya, another Gandhian. Rajnath stays mum on Jaswant, says Advani will continue to lead BJP

Shimla, Aug 21 (ANI ) : Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) President Rajnath Singh, on Friday refused to take any questions from the media on the issue of expulsion of former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh from the party and said L.K Advani will continue to lead the party “forever.”

” Advaniji will lead the party for longer time.”

Addressing the media at the end of the three-day Chintan Baithak here, Singh said “Don’t bring up the old issues again, and I told whatever I can on day one.”

Singh said the members attending the Chintan Baithak had decided to be tough on the ideological and individual discipline of party leaders and workers.

He urged party leaders and workers to adopt a model life style in their public as well as personal life.

Singh also said the BJP has decided to stick to its core ideology of cultural nationalism as said in the ideological draft of “Integral Humanism.”

Integral Humanism is a draft of five speeches made by Jan Sangh President Din Dayal Upadhyaya. The BJP adopted Integral Humanism as its philosophy in place of Gandhian Socialism at Party’s National Executive of 1984 held at Kolkata.

The analysis of party’s performance on all the fronts made at the Chintan Baithak would be discussed at a general secretaries meeting soon.

He also said that the party would constitute a committee to draft the “road ahead” map for the party, which would be placed before party’s National Executive in September – October.

” I will call a meeting of senior leaders and all general secretaries to discuss the analysation made here, and a committee will be formed to prepare a road map draft for the party, which will be placed before the national executive,” Singh said.

Singh also rebuffed allegations of any leakage of the draft of the party’s performance.

“Both Bal Apte and Ram Lal were assigned to analyse the party performance based on the reports given by various state units, and accordingly they put their views before the meeting. And they brought all the points in their diary and no draft was prepared, “Singh explained.

Considering RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s suggestion to give preference to youngsters, Singh said : ” The meeting considered the sarsnghchalkji’s statement and decided to give preference for youngsters from Mandal level to the Central level.”

Rajnath read out the points of the resolutions adopted by the meet, which states, (1) The BJP will be committed to the ideology of cultural nationalism and Integral Humanism, (2)Stress on expansion of party’s geological and social base, (3) Preference to women, youths, farmers in party leadership (4) Strengthening NDA, (5) No compromise on discipline (6) Role model administration by the party’s governments at the state level, (7)Constructive and aggressive opposition at the centre and (8) Leading model life by leaders and workers of the party.

Singh said no one is responsible for party’s debacle, ” No one is responsible for election debacle. If at all any one is responsible, its Rajnath Singh, I owe my responsibility being party chief.” (ANI)

In his reply to the district magistrate and district election officer on Tuesday, Dutt apologized for the remarks and said it was a mere dialogue from his Bollywood blockbuster Munnabhai series which were used in the rally to spread a message of love in society.

Fernandes appeals to ‘true Lohiavadis’ to unite

New Delhi, March 22 (ANI): The centenary celebrations of Indian freedom fighter and great socialist political leader Dr. Rammanohar Lohia will start from March 23, which happens to be his 99th birth anniversary.

Former Defence Minister George Fernandes writing in the ‘Journal of Socialist Thought and Action’, termed Dr. Lohia as the ” greatest socialist leaders of the world.”

“Dr. Lohia epitomised in his life the essence of Gandhian and democratic socialist thought and action.”

Fernandes, however, expressed regret on the degradation of Lohia principles in today’s political arena.

“The tragedy lies in the fact that they (Lohia followers) lack unity and reperesent various strands of his philosolphy…Some self-acclaimed Lohiavadis have accumulated wealth worth billions of rupees through unscruplous means and some have set up new landmarks in corruption as well as the politics of casteism, criminalisation and heredity,” he writes.

Fernandes condemned the media focus towards official celebrations on this occasion. With a view of maintaining Dr. Lohia’s authentic legacy, Fernandes along with other Lohia supporters would celebrate his birth centenary separately.

Fernandes, in an attempt to unite the ‘true Lohiavadis’, has made an appeal to all genuine socialists to join in his celebrations.

“We do not want to stand with those who enjoyed power and performed such works that were not in consonance with Lohia’s ideas. Ours is a humble attempt to unite true and active followers of Dr. Lohia,” Fernandes writes.

Dr. Lohia was born at Akbarpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district on March 23, 1910.

He did not want his followers to observe or celebrate his birthday, since his birthday coincided with the day of martyrdom of three of the country’s finest revolutionary freedom fighters – Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, who were executed by the British rulers in Lahore Jail on March 23, 1931 when he was 21 years old.

Lohia followers are divided into different interest groups – the first category is the ‘Heretic (Kujat) Gandhivadis’ who use civil disobedience to resist injustices. The second category is ‘Governmental Gandhivadi’ and the third category is the Monastic (Mathi) Gandhivadi.

On the occasion of Dr. Lohia’s birthday, Governmental and Mathi Lohia followers are organising celebrations, while Kujat Loia fiollowers are organising a separate programme. (ANI)
