Querrey leaves Fish floundering in Queen’s final

(Reuters) – Sam Querrey joined a prestigious group of American winners of the Queens’s Club grasscourt title on Sunday when he boomed down 15 aces to leave best buddy Mardy Fish floundering on center court.

Sports

Querrey, the seventh seed, came through a hard-hitting contest 7-6 7-5 to claim his third title of a productive year and earmark him as a dark horse for the Wimbledon championships which start on June 21.

The towering 22-year-old seized his chance to win the title after the draw was shredded by a cull of all the top seeds including world number one Rafael Nadal, four-times champion Andy Roddick and last year’s winner Andy Murray.

As well as Roddick, the gigantic trophy which must be one of the largest in tennis, has also been lifted by Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and Todd Martin.

All of those players, most notably Sampras, McEnroe and Connors, also enjoyed incredible highs at Wimbledon but whether or not Querrey can also make a big impact at the only grand slam played on grass is open to question.

But it has certainly not done his confidence any harm on a surface he admits once left him clueless.

“It’s an honor to win the trophy,” Querrey told reporters. “All the greatest players in the world are on this trophy. It’s nice to be added to that list with them.

“I’m definitely playing great on the grass, and now I’ve got a week to practice and re-group. Then I’m looking forward to Wimbledon next Monday.

ALL-AMERICAN FINAL

It was not quite the finale that had been expected but Querrey and Fish made sure the first all-American final here since 1994 was an interesting spectacle for the center court crowd.

Fish threatened an early break before the rhythm of the match settled down to a procession of big-serving and heavy baseline hitting. Neither man made many forays to the net.

Querrey dominated the first set tiebreak, winning it 7-3, but Fish did finally break serve in the fifth game of the second set when his opponent blazed a forehand long.

A deciding set looked on the cards before two shocking backhands by Fish when he served at 5-4 in the second set allowed Querrey to break back.

Fish wavered again at 5-6 to hand Querrey victory and his first title on grass.

“I just really wanted to focus on my service games the whole week, which I did a great job of,” Querrey, who plans to buy Fish a consolation dinner on Sunday, said. “I think I only lost serve maybe like three times this week.”

Neanderthals were intelligent and fearless Hunters, not dimwits

Washington, May 15 (ANI): A new analysis has indicated that Neanderthals, which are generally considered as the ‘stupid’ cousins of modern humans, were sophisticated, intelligent, and fearless hunters, capable of capturing the most impressive animals.

Although it is now clear that Neanderthals were hunters and not scavengers, their exact hunting methods are still something of a mystery.

Dutch researcher Gerrit Dusseldorp investigated just how sophisticated the Neanderthals’ hunting methods really were.

He analyzed their daily forays for food to gain insights into their complex behavior.

His analysis of two archaeological sites revealed that Neanderthals in warm forested areas preferred to hunt solitary game but that in colder, less forested areas they preferred to hunt the more difficult to capture herding animals.

The Neanderthals were not easily intimated by their game. Rhinoceroses, bisons and even predators such as the brown bear were all on their menu.

Dusseldorp established that just as for modern humans, the environment and the availability of food determined the choice of prey and the hunting method adopted.

If the circumstances allowed it, Neanderthals lived in large groups and even the most attractive and difficult to catch prey were within their reach.

Although herding animals are difficult to surprise and isolate, many such game lived on the open steppes.

This large supply attracted large groups of Neanderthals.

That the Neanderthals were capable of hunting down such elusive game demonstrates that they had good coordination skills and could communicate well with each other.

Each prey has a specific cost-benefit scenario.

For example, game that are more difficult to catch yield more calories and have a more usable, thick fleece.

Dusseldorp used these data to examine the Neanderthal’s preferences. He also analyzed the prey of hyenas in the same manner.

Hyenas were important competitors of Neanderthals as they had a similar dietary pattern.

Dusseldorp demonstrated that Neanderthals, thanks to their intelligence, even surpassed hyenas at capturing the strongest game.

All things being considered, the Neanderthals were skilled and highly intelligent hunters. So, the idea that Neanderthals were brute musclemen can be dismissed. (ANI)

Famed ‘Love Guru’ of Patna heralds his election manifesto

Patna, Apr 10 (ANI): Matuk Nath Chaudhary, a Hindi lecturer of Patna University in Bihar, reportedly under suspension, deviated from his romantic pursuits to float a forum of his favourite choice named ‘Prem Party’.

Thus Chaudhary and his admirers have resolved to make forays into the arena of politics by contesting in the electoral battle to the Lok Sabha.

And aptly, Chaudhary who carved out an unerasable name for himself as ‘Love Guru’ for his romantic episodes with Julie one of his students two years ago released the party’s election manifesto.

Incidentally, Prem Party’s nominee will contest the parliamentary elections from Patna Saheb constituency, but as an independent candidate.

“Today in political parties, if one doesn’t move ahead then he either quits the party or indulges in criminal acts to fulfill his wishes. Such kinds of selfishness, corruption and hatred are present in today’s politics. I am against such politics and hence I have launched this ‘Prem Party’ in cause of the society and live upto the expectations,” said Chaudhary.

Though Chaudhary has formed ‘Prem Party’, which is yet to be recognized by the Election Commission of India, he will contest Lok Sabha elections independently.

His manifesto also pledges new ‘love parks’ where couples can woo and coo alongwith one’s heartthrob under the tree shade.

Chaudhary is hopeful that he would attract the maximum number votes of youngsters with the belief he has a sea of admirers, particularly among the younger generation and other romantically inclined persons.

“The main thing is for one to progress but the youth is going astray on the issues of love. Parties focussing on development are good but not the ones which play politics on the issue of love which the youth needs to understand,” said Rupesh Kumar, a student and an activist of Prem Party.

Chaudhary will have to fight the polls against certain bigwigs from the tinsel world like Shatrughan Sinha representing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shekhar Suman, who is contesting as a candidate of Congress party from the Patna Saheb constituency.

With a wink and twinkle in his eyes, Chaudhary will have to convince his voters that he is in no way immoral since his opponents are from Bollywood equally famous for ‘casting couch’ episodes as good or worse as his affairs with Julie. y Ajay Kumar (ANI)
