Cyber security and laws, a draw among youth in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Sep 13 (ANI): An increasing number of students are drawn to learn cyber security as they foresee a bright future in this upcoming field.

With information technology (IT) gaining popularity the security of data compiled, stored and transmitted is of utmost import.

According to a study, the requirement of employees to prevent cyber crimes in India is higher in India than other countries.

Therefore many students in the ‘Cyberabad,’ another name for Hyderabad, have started opting cyber security as a course to be a professional in the field.

Presently, cyber security has good prospect in the job market.

“E-commerce has made a very huge impact in every country’s economy. So whenever you use Internet, you need security. It is a very booming and open market that is going to be coming in few days,” said Vikram, a student of cyber security.

The IT world is today faced with problems like spams, viruses and worms. Besides cyber terrorism and cyber warfare are the latest trends of nuisance, reportedly increasing at a rapid pace. It is felt that a proper cyber infrastructure is needed to combat all these problems.

Certainly, Zaki Qureshi, a software professional, has come forth to ensure Cyber Security by teaching various aspects to prevent cyber crime.

Qureshi, 38, IT expert feels that the government must take a pro-active role in ensuing foolproof cyber security.

“The government should take a serious initiative on awareness, training technology transfer and then we can call it as security development. I mean to say, you have to have a proper infrastructure in place. For all these, it takes a long time. It’s not a one-day or a two-day initiative. It will probably take half a decade,” said Zaki Qureshi, a software professional and an expert in cyber security.

Cyber security is very important to protect the IT services in corporate establishments, government organisations as well as the ones used by the general public.

Unfortunately, cyber security in India is yet to pick up among the IT users, said Qureshi. By, Jyoti. N (ANI)

BSF deploys women guards on Pakistan border in Punjab

Ferozepur (Punjab), Sep 11 (ANI): The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed the first batch of women guards on Pakistan border in Punjab.

The move would make foolproof body frisking at border check posts and farms lying across the border fence, said an official.

“The wives of our farmers cross the fencing at the border to carry out farming activities. We need to frisk them while going and coming back, which our male constables cannot do. So we have appointed women constables so that the security angle can be covered,” said H.S. Garcha, Commandant, 43 Battalion, BSF, Ferozepur.

These personnel have been given training in weapon handling, intelligence gathering, border management, unarmed combat, frisking and guard duties.

“I was always interested in joining the armed forces, I also had NCC in my college. Since then I had this in mind that if given an opportunity, I would definitely do something like this. I always wanted to wear this uniform,” said Randeep Ranju, a BSF constable.

BSF formed its first women’s battalion when 178 recruits passed out of the BSF’s Subsidiary Training Centre at Kharga near Hoshiarpur on July 25.

BSF plans to induct 35,000 women guards in the paramilitary force in the next four years. (ANI)

Darjeeling zoo, known for its rare Red Pandas, has poor security measures

Darjeeling (West Bengal), Sep 6(ANI): The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan zoological park in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, which is known for its Red Pandas, lacks security measures, which a zoo of any international caliber is expected to have.

The zoo is the only specialised centre in the country, which is globally recognised for its conservation breeding programmes of Red Panda, Snow Leopards, Tibetan Wolf and other highly endangered animal species.

“You see when it is raining you went inside so if anyone just choose a rainy day then no one is going to see when you are going in, you can just walk through the doors, you don’t get checks for anything. So, it may be possible that if you really want to steal one (animal) you could do it quite easily,” said William Menon, a tourist from England.

However, forest officials claim that sufficient security measures are maintained in the park and said that their system was foolproof.

“We divide the security of our zoological garden in six different zones, each strictly monitored by two guards both day and night we don’t think stealing of animals is possible,” said Purna Singh, Assistant Animal Supervisor of Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park.

The Central Zoo Authority has designated this zoo for the conservation and breeding of 10 endangered high altitude animal species including Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Tibetan Wolf, Blue Sheep, Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan Blood Pheasant and Satyr Tragopan.

Thousands of tourists from all across the globe come here every year to witness the rare species of this Himalayan region. By Tarak Sarkar (ANI)

Pakistan needs no Indian certificate to prove its nukes are safe

Islamabad, May 14 (ANI): Pakistan has said that it does not need any certification from India or any other country to prove that the control and command mechanism of its nuclear arsenal is fool-proof.

“We certainly do not need any certification from India and for that matter from any other country. We have enough confidence in our own foolproof mechanism of control and command structure,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office said, while responding to Stratfor’s latest report, which said the US approved of Pakistan’s nuclear security because India was comfortable with it.

Texas based think-tank Stratfor had said: “The United States works very closely with India on the issue of Pakistan’s nuclear security. It also maintains that India remains comfortable with Pakistan’s command and control structure.”

According to the report, although India continued to underscore the threat it faced from Pakistan-based militants, it largely remained comfortable with Islamabad’s nuclear command-and-control infrastructure.

“This would explain to a considerable degree the current US comfort level,” The News quoted the Stratfor report, as saying.

The report suggested that the degree to which India was worried about Pakistan could be taken as a parameter of the risk generated from Pakistan’s internal security lapse.

“New Delhi is a key source of intelligence on the status of that security, and a good – albeit imperfect – measure of valid concern is the degree to which India is worried about it, since it stands the greatest risk of being targeted by Pakistan-based nukes,” it said. (ANI)

Sun’s new solar cycle will be weakest since 1928

London, May 11 (ANI): A panel of international experts has predicted that the Sun’s new solar cycle, which is thought to have begun in December 2008, will be the weakest since 1928.

Solar activity waxes and wanes every 11 years.

Cycles can vary widely in intensity, and there is no foolproof way to predict how the sun will behave in any given cycle.

In 2007, an international panel of 12 experts split evenly over whether the coming cycle of activity, dubbed Cycle 24, would be stronger or weaker than average.

The group did agree the sun would probably hit the lowest point in its activity in March 2008 before ramping up to a new cycle that would reach its maximum in late 2011 or mid-2012.

But, the sun did not bear out those predictions.

Instead, it entered an unexpectedly long lull in activity with few new sunspots. It is thought to have reached its minimum in December 2008, and now seems to be slowly waking up.

According to a report in New Scientist, one such sign is two new active regions captured this week by the ultraviolet camera on one of NASA’s twin STEREO probes.

“There’s a lot of indicators that Cycle 24 is ready to burst out,” said panel chair Doug Biesecker of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado.

The panel now expects the sun’s activity will peak about a year late, in May 2013, when it will boast an average of 90 sunspots per day.

That is below average for solar cycles, making the coming peak the weakest since 1928, when an average of 78 sunspots was seen daily.

Sunspots are Earth-sized blotches that coincide with knotty magnetic fields. They are a common measure of solar activity.

The higher the number of sunspots, the higher the probability of a major storm that could wreak havoc on Earth.

A lower number of sunspots could mean space weather will be relatively mild in the coming years. (ANI)

India asks Pak to provide more security for Friendship Bus Service

Lahore, May 11 (ANI): India has written a letter to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry to complain about insufficient security measures for the Indo-Pak Friendship Bus Service.

The Interior Ministry has decided to enhance the security for the bus service and directed the Punjab Home Department to ensure foolproof security arrangements, a private TV channel reported on Sunday.

The Punjab Home Department has put the Lahore capital city police officer and the Superintendent of Police on high alert and asked the Sheikhupura region police officer and the Nankana Sahib district coordination officer to ensure security for the bus.

The bus service was re-started on July 11, 2003. The service, launched in 1999, was suspended after the 2001 Parliament attack. (ANI)

Repolling underway in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 3 (ANI): Repolling is underway in six booths spread across three Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal on Sunday.

Of the six booths, two are located under the Jhargram Parliamentary constituency, two under the Bishnupur Parliamentary constituency and another two under the Darjeeling Parliamentary constituency.

According to the State Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen, the Election Commission on Saturday had ordered repolling in the state on different grounds such as failure of polling personnel to reach booths in Maoist-hit Salboni in Jhargram and a technical snag at Siliguri in Darjeeling.

In Bishnupur, repoll would be held at two booths in Tarkona Free Primary School, two in Kuliana Primary School in Jhargram and one booth each in Bharati Hindi High School and Shishu Bidyapith in Darjeeling.

Sen said that arrangements were being made to ensure foolproof security for the next two phases on May 7 and 13 when elections to 28 seats of the 42 in the state would be held.

The opposition parties had also demanded a repoll in the Keshpur Assembly segment where widespread rigging was alleged.

However, the Election Commission did not agree to the demand.

In the third phase, the state had reported more than 50 per cent voter turnout. (ANI)

Chidambaram says Davis Cup event is safe, secure

Chennai, Apr 25 (ANI): Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Saturday said the Davis Cup event is completely safe and secure.

Chidambaram’s statement came after the Tennis Australia decided to pull out of the Davis Cup tie against India, which is to be held in Chennai next month.

“The Davis Cup event is completely safe and secure. Foolproof security will be provided for the three days event. It is one event, one stadium, three days no security problem,” Chidambaram told reporters here.

Earlier in the day, the Tennis Australia pulled out of the next month’s Davis Cup tie against India, citing security concerns after the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rejected their plea to shift the Asia-Oceania Group I tie from Chennai.

“We asked for the tie to be moved because we have major security concerns for the players, particularly during the Indian general election,” TA President Geoff Pollard said in a statement.

Pollard further said it would be irresponsible for them to send their players into an area of such high risk.

“The ITF decision has left us with no other option. We cannot send the team. It is extremely disappointing. Davis Cup is very important to us but some things are more important than tennis,” he added. (ANI)

Editors Guild of India condemns attack on Kerala journalists

New Delhi, Apr 9 (ANI): The Editors Guild of India has condemned the attack on journalists of ‘Manorama News’ at an election rally in Puthanathani in Kerala’s allappuram District of Kerala on April 7.

The journalists S. Mahesh and V J Moncy who had gone to the rally for regular coverage had a rude shock when a speaker announced that a news channel had flashed the news that the CPM supported candidate was not allowed to join the Chief Minister on the stage.

The journalists were surrounded by members of the CPM. Even when the journalists said their channel had not given any such flash news, the journalists were beaten up.

The reporter Mahesh was forcibly taken to the stage and was held hostage by menacing workers.

Other journalists, who protested the attack on their fellow scribes, were also surrounded by the angry mob and threatened.

By then Mahesh had been subjected to further assault. Moncy, who had been thrashed, was taken to police station. The journalists have been hospitalised.

This act of hooliganism is unacceptable and the Guild urges the Kerala Government and the police to prosecute the hooligans who assaulted the journalists, who were doing their duty.

The government and the Election Commission must provide foolproof security to journalists who cover the general elections. (ANI)

BJP supports ‘harassed’ Varun Gandhi: Rajnath Singh

Asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ‘politically and legally’ supporting Varun Gandhi, party president Rajnath Singh said Wednesday that the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were ‘exploiting’ the National Security Act (NSA) to harass him.

‘What is happening with Varun Gandhi is unfortunate. He is being harassed and the BJP condemns it,’ Rajnath Singh said at a rally here.

‘The BJP is politically and legally rallying behind Varun Gandhi,’ he added.

‘His detention under the NSA is shameful. It is the joint act of the Congress and BSP. Where do they want to lead the country?’ asked Rajnath Singh.

The Uttar Pradesh government had late Sunday invoked the NSA against Gandhi, the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Pilibhit, for his reported hate speeches and mob violence during his arrest Saturday.

‘The Congress and BSP have created an Emergency-like situation by exploiting the NSA. Varun Gandhi has no criminal record,’ said the BJP president.

Gandhi was shifted from the prison in Pilibhit to a jail in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah town at around 1.30 a.m. Wednesday for security reasons.

‘There is a threat to Varun Gandhi’s life. The centre, Uttar Pradesh government and Election Commission should take note of this and ensure foolproof security for him,’ said Rajnath Singh.

‘The Congrsss and BSP have crossed all limits to gain political mileage. The BJP will not remain quiet,’ he added.

New Delhi, Mar 26 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajiv Shukla on Thursday said that the South African Government has consented to provide all security measures to the teams participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Security precautions would be taken in South Africa. The Government of South Africa has given assurance that foolproof security would be provided to all the IPL players. Since the security concern is a worldwide concept, all relevant security measures would be taken,” Shukla told reporters here.

Shukla further said it was almost impossible for the BCCI to shift the tournament from April to May, as the players are required to report in England after May 24, where the Twenty20 World Cup is being held.

It may be recalled that after the IPL decided to take the tournament outside India due to the general elections in India, the BCCI select South Africa for this year’s edition. (ANI)

Discussion on Satyam issue postponed

New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): The Lok Sabha on Friday evaded a discussion on the 7,500 crore Satyam scam on the request of leader of the main opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) L K Advani.
